      To be honest, the 10K powerbank hardly hold 10,000 mAh, so a 5K one would probably not even charge your phone halfway. So you'd better carry a 10K around, it is not much bigger.

    • @MarkBennettCa
      @MarkBennettCa 7 месяцев назад

      @@ZotmundSzele yeah, I will agree it doesn't seem to get my back up to charge very quickly. I'd say practically speaking it gives my about 50% extra battery life if I through it on while I'm out and about. The pro is that it's small and there aren't any cables, but a 10k would definitely pack more punch if you can handle the extra size. The new Qi2 chargers look promising too, but they're also bigger so far.

    The point of the apple battery pack is to use it on your phone while your phone is fully charged because it will keep it around 80-90 percent while the battery pack is getting lower . I use mine everyday and can last a full day with the apple batterypack and my iphone 14 promax battery until bed time and im a heavy user on my phone

    I'll hold on upgrading my Baseus 10k magsafe one for now (Same features as this one plus more, much better price). At least until a battery pack that can charge itself via magsafe (like the otterbox one) and has a 60w output on the USB port comes out.

    I got the old Anker pack when I had a 13 Pro so I could pack that instead of a lightning cable when I was traveling, but I haven’t used it since I got the 15 Pro and can just charge with USB-C. I also really didn’t like how hot it got. I think I’ll probably get a regular non-magsafe battery pack that can charge all my devices, I’d rather top up my phone for 15 minutes over cable and then use it as normal instead of having a brick magnetically attached all day.

  • @stevee1989
    @stevee1989 21 день назад +1

    5:20 this is because apple’s battery pack, instead of charging the phone it would be used as a battery itself. So the phone would use the power of the battery pack instead of the internal one, it was a battery extender rather than a portable charger. The original battery pack was more intented to be used when the phone was topped, so instead of using internal battery, use the external one, and you could get around 3 hours of use without dropping the phone’s battery.

    • @stevee1989
      @stevee1989 21 день назад

      Thats why the charging speed is so low and also why the battery size is small, it isnt meant to charge your phone really, its real purpose is for you to use your phone without using much the internal battery and rather use an external one.

    I can't wait for the Apple USB-C MagSafe Battery Pack. The lack of data communication between the pack and iPhone is discouraging. I was hoping with Qi2 that would not be the case. I also wonder if the reason it may have stopped was that it hit the maximum, like the original Apple Battery pack. Thoughts? Lastly that is a big boy. 🤣

      I suspect Apple kept that feature for their MagSafe Packs as it is software-related, and iOS controls it. Qi 2.0 was more for Android than iPhones. It is superior to Qi, and Apple owns the patents to that magnetic coil. Making it open source but holding back the tricks like communicating with the iPhone for a battery widget and to stop charging at 90%.

      Charging losses. Every battery loses energy in discharging, and every battery loses energy when charging, so both put together stacks the losses up. It’s even worse for a wireless charger too, so if you want to be efficient you should wire charge instead of using the Qi2 pad.

    • @789know
      @789know 8 месяцев назад

      Also powerbank count mah different than phone. If i recall they rate it at different voltage to get a higher number

    • @TranceFan05
      @TranceFan05 8 месяцев назад

      1. Various Charging speeds cause waste in conversion.
      (Wh)*1000/(V) =(mAh). Is the equation for battery mah, there is one variable to pay attention to as it will change. That is V or Volts. When charging the wattage ( ex 20 w or 15 w for this bank ) W = Volts times A or W=VA. Amps are more dangerous than volts so when we increase charging speed its volts that go up. Examples: 20W is like 10V and 2A, 5 is 7.5V and 2a ect ect.
      2. The converting of the batteries volts into your phones preferred volts is a second power loss.
      Its often cheaper to make a battery bank that stores its energy at a lower voltage than phones, some devices like an anker 737 have higher voltage batteries as they are intended for use for fast charging devices like laptops ( M1 pro 140ws for example ).
      3. Heat is energy, that energy comes from the charge of the battery so some charging even from your wall is not 100% efficient.
      4. The energy or watts must travel from your battery bank into the "air" with wireless or a cable with another type of charging which is travel which will cause some type of loss.
      All battery bank manufacturers list like 10k mah when its actually 60 to 70% of that which your phone will receive in ideal charging conditions. They do this since no one else will be more honest by actually stating how much they expect to be available to the charging device. This would make all there batteries look like they charge less but are for the same price as competitors.

    FYI, Qi2 by itself supports reverse charging in the same way Qi1 does, the device can simply switch between providing or absorbing charge. However the iPhone will refuse to do this for anything except their own powerbank (despite being clearly capable of it), so third party manufacturers have decided to not bother supporting it either. Similarly, Qi2 IIRC can transmit the power conditions of the charger, but again, Apple refuses to implement this feature for third parties.

    Hi !! Great videos. I have learned a lot and have been waiting for Qi2 external batteries to become available for quite a while.
    Here is my situation - I hope that it makes sense to you. For the past 10 years I have always used an external battery case that is both a fully protective case as well as an extra source of power for my iPhone.
    I am hoping that I will eventually be able to find a case that will provide my phone with protection - the additional reserve power - and also be completely (magnetic) cable free when it needs to be charged.
    Side Point: I will be upgrading to an iPhone 15 Pro Max once I find the system that meets my specifications.
    I would like to charge my iPhone at home and in my car using two separate magnetic charging stations. One at home that will be by my bed that will charge both the iPhone and the battery case at the same time. Similarly, I would have a separate magnetic charging station in my car that would either draw power from a 12 volt cigarette lighter plug or a USB port.
    The whole point of my requirements is that I am tired of mini plug ports in my battery case that literally wear out within the first six months due to constant plugging and unplugging the cable. The battery case may still be good, but the mini plug port on the case is worn out and does not make a solid connection.
    I just want to keep my iPhone safe and protected in an external battery case that has a decent amount of extra power - while at the same time being able to charge both without having to plug in a mini plug or USB C cable. I would really prefer to stay away from the kind of external battery banks that you have been describing. While they admittedly do provide the kind of power and magnetic method of connecting that I am seeking - they are on the bulky side and I like keeping my phone in its charging case and I my pocket.
    I realize that this is not what you were talking about in your most informative video, but I can see that you have the very same passion for these issues as I have. If the technology that I have suggested does not yet exist, I am hopeful that it may in the not too distant future.
    Any suggestive help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You !!!
    Best Regards
    Michael

      Sorry that was a little confusing. If you connect the battery to power with a USB-C cable, and the battery is attached to the iPhone, it will charge both. BUT if you connect your iPhone to power with a USB cable, it *will not* send a charge over to the battery pack. Basically: No reverse wireless charging from phone to battery. This is unlike Apple's MagSafe Battery pack where you could plug in your iPhone to power and it would charge the phone fully, then move to charging the battery, without the battery being physically connected to a cable.

      The confusing part was he said “you can actually plug a lightning cable into this” referring to the Apple battery pack but he actually meant you can plug into the iPhone and it will reverse charge.
      Personally I don’t think it matters where the cable is plugged in as long as there’s a way to charge both at the same time

    I’ve been using the Anker 633 maggo 10,000mha battery pack for about 1/2 a year now and it’s great. It’s a very similar design to this new qi2 one how it has a secondary usb type A port that I use all the time. Does the new qi 2 version have that? And can you do a comparison video given it’s basically a direct successor to the anker 633?

    When you said the apple magsafe battery pack maintains the same percent when you use it at 5:09. It had me wondering if you charge both your phone and the magsafe battery pack up to 100%. Then leave the battery pack on your phone all day, how much would it help your phone as you use it through out the day? Can you test and see how much battery you would have left at the end of the day with this method? I would try myself but haven't purchased one but would for sure buy one if that method works.

    • @beardfm
      @beardfm  8 месяцев назад +1

      I know that's how some people use it and would certainly extend the life of the phone more than putting it on when it's close to dying. I'll try to test soon and include in my follow-up with more Qi2 battery packs!

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 8 месяцев назад

      I use mine by charging my phone to 90% and then slapping on the Apple MagSafe Battery pack. It gets me through the day with 4-5 hours of SOT without using the phone battery. My tests show that combined with the 90% limit, it increases the phone's battery health by about 2X. So, instead of 500 cycles to 80% battery health, it gets under 1000 cycles (estimated). Testing for two years on my iPhone 13PM with 180 complete cycles and 96.5% battery health
