I love how he both showed us on a mannequin head and on himself, so we got to not only see how it would look if we were doing it to someone else or to ourselves, but also it's easier to trust someone who is willing to do it himself to show us the results. It was also eye-opening to see even him look nervous during the process and the relief afterwards, which is just proof that cutting our own hair is not a true replacement for going to a hair stylist, even if you're a professional hairstylist. We might be able to cut our own hair and make it passable, but if we want it be really good, we need to go to the hair salon.

Afreenish Yusirah I cut my daughters bangs periodically to keep up between cuts. I usually wet them, use the little comb and cut them straight across so they’re even. Then I pick up a section and cut it angled from the eye outward for lack of a better description. Like he does with the top. I do that all the way across. It helps keep it from being super blunt. Then I point cut the ends to just make it a bit wispy. It looks good and her super hair picky dad can’t tell so 🤷🏼♀️
oOEarlGreyAllDay Oo hairdresser tip: don’t wet the bangs. They should be dry as you cut them, so you do not cut too much. Hair is weighed down when weight, and once dried, it bounces back up. Hope this helps in the future! ☺️

I’m autistic and my sensory issues don’t always play well with salons, and this video was so helpful. I didn’t have thinning scissors so I used a razor comb and it worked great for me. That and some earplugs for the loud clippers made this totally doable, and my hair no longer looks like a neglected blackberry bramble.
Idk why but other autistic people talking about not being able to manage clippers / hair shavers makes me doubt my diagnosis. I know I should feel bad for you either way tho because that's probably a lot to have to go through because I know it takes a lot of time to shave a head
My 7 year old son is Autistic and my oldest son’s Dad is the only one he lets cut his hair because he distracts him with talking loud when he uses the clippers and telling what he’s doing at every step. It is so good to hear from other Autistic people, especially adults, what bothers and what helps them so I can try different things with him. Many people try to give me “advice” but other Autistic people is always who I listen to. ❤

My high school does it a little different from other schools so we used to have advisory every Wednesday before lunch (most advisories are first thing in the morning) and every with the last name V-Z was there, but it was like self study. It's not like that in every school but I hope you kinda get the idea. It's similar to a Homeroom I guess

I used this tutorial on my husband and it turned out *great*! He has very straight hair that doesn’t have the length or texture to have a pompadour style so I didn’t follow the tutorial for the top part. Instead, I cut a guide on one side of the top and gradually got longer towards the other side. It ended up kind of like a hard part. He says he won’t go to the barber anymore because he likes his new cut so much. Thank you Brad!

Hey in the same boat here. I'm currently in the process of doing this and this tutorial is amazing because he makes sure to mention all the important parts. My boyfriend did the the first part cutting the sides and the back and it was so easy he nailed it first time. Might be a bit more complicated if you do it by yourself though. For the last year, I've kinda let my hair go because I haven't felt like struggling through another attempt, but... I've been on T for almost 8 months now & I'm experiencing the same thing - I want to see my features when I look in the mirror. My grown-out neglected hair makes my face look so round. It's typical to need a new head each continuing education class /training you go to. So you end up with quite a few of them depending on how often you go to classes.
I was a hairstylist 20 years ago and have been out of practice, only cutting my own hair and a few loved ones, for about 17 years. I just gave myself this cut, which is a variation on, the undercut I've been giving myself for 10ish years, and I actually learned so much! I've never done a fade on myself because I was too worried about how to do the back. It looks way better than any cut I've given myself. You're a wizard and I love you! ❤️

Just cut my husband’s hair! It was driving me nuts, so I finally took matters into my own hands! Plus the clippers pretty much paid for themselves now that he doesn’t have to go to a salon anymore. I didn’t have thinning shears, but it looked alright. My husband’s hair is super fine due to albinism, so it didn’t look too chunky in that tapered section. Thank you Brad!!

I got super quiet clippers for the same reason. They were relatively cheap labeled for kids

Idk why but other autistic people talking about not being able to manage clippers / hair shavers makes me doubt my diagnosis. I know I should feel bad for you either way tho because that's probably a lot to have to go through because I know it takes a lot of time to shave a head
My 7 year old son is Autistic and my oldest son’s Dad is the only one he lets cut his hair because he distracts him with talking loud when he uses the clippers and telling what he’s doing at every step. It is so good to hear from other Autistic people, especially adults, what bothers and what helps them so I can try different things with him. Many people try to give me “advice” but other Autistic people is always who I listen to. ❤

I've been cutting my hair since quarantine started and just now thought to check your channel for a step by step (i used to literally binge watch all your stuff about coloring hair). I was so scared to take out the clippers every time because i always felt like it was gonna be the end of my head because of a mess up. I also trans and no one in my family who supports me had short hair so i have like no experience with short hair but holy shit!!! this video saved this hair cut, i went from looking like a Beatles reject to feeling hella masc, tysm. My high school does it a little different from other schools so we used to have advisory every Wednesday before lunch (most advisories are first thing in the morning) and every with the last name V-Z was there, but it was like self study. It's not like that in every school but I hope you kinda get the idea. It's similar to a Homeroom I guess

I used this tutorial on my husband and it turned out *great*! He has very straight hair that doesn’t have the length or texture to have a pompadour style so I didn’t follow the tutorial for the top part. Instead, I cut a guide on one side of the top and gradually got longer towards the other side. It ended up kind of like a hard part. He says he won’t go to the barber anymore because he likes his new cut so much.

Hey in the same boat here. I'm currently in the process of doing this and this tutorial is amazing because he makes sure to mention all the important parts. My boyfriend did the the first part cutting the sides and the back and it was so easy he nailed it first time. Might be a bit more complicated if you do it by yourself though. But definitely doable

I cut my own hair early in my transition, using the "women's" tutorial & ending up w/ a bowl cut. It didn't look TERRIBLE but it wasn't ideal. For the last year, I've kinda let my hair go because I haven't felt like struggling through another attempt, but... I've been on T for almost 8 months now & I'm experiencing the same thing - I want to see my features when I look in the mirror. My grown-out neglected hair makes my face look so round.

Just cut my husband’s hair! It was driving me nuts, so I finally took matters into my own hands! Plus the clippers pretty much paid for themselves now that he doesn’t have to go to a salon anymore. I didn’t have thinning shears, but it looked alright. My husband’s hair is super fine due to albinism, so it didn’t look too chunky in that tapered section. Thank you Brad!!
