Did my apprenticeship in hairdressing 15 years ago. I gave it up not long after. I have recently decided to do some barbering. Have been practicing on a few friends lateley, have not had anyone with this type of length requiring a scissor cut. This video and others you have are all very informative.
I just wanted to comment to say thank you so much! My fiance gets his hair cut by his mother usually because usually people dont know how to cut with scissors only and I did it for him today thanks to your videos!!
Thanks! You just helped me cut my dad's hair. He was hit by a car over the holidays on his way to get a haircut while riding his bike. He never did get that haircut and ended up in a neck brace. He was begging me to cut his hair. So I followed your video. I botched up on the side bridge to the front mid and now he has like a little hole there, but other than that, it looks pretty great. He is super happy and grateful. Thank you very much for your video! 🎉
Really great tutorial and massively appreciated. I came to barbering at 54 after a long career in the police services. Your manner and style of teaching is soooo good and a joy to watch. Thank you. Michael :-)
not in barber school. my boyfriend has very overgrown hair and the barbershop is closed this week (we have a gala in a few days). so i got some scissors and will be trying this tonight. wish me luck!
I'm not a barber but Wow, someone made a video that makes sense! I didn't even have audio on and could understand the visuals 🙌 I have mixed curly haired and straight hair kids and I honestly struggle with straight hair so much! Now I can make my straight haired kids as fresh as my curly haired kids. Thank you for this video! 💯
I've been cutting hair for a good many years but mostly fades,Skin Fades, blow outs etc. So all machine i've been trying with siccessors for a little while it seems simple enough in my head but when i apply it with the finger method it feels awkward and takes me a long time even tho it comes out ok i still finish a bit disappointed because im so picky i like this method with the comb i will try this i think its more up my alley thank you
Honestly, thank you so much for posting this video. My son is autistic and struggles with getting his hair cut. He's fine with scissors but has a hard time with the clippers because of the noise and the sensation. I've been learning how to cut hair so I can cut his hair for him and I've learned to be fast with the clippers, but if I can scissor all of his hair and just use the clippers to clean up edges, that will be so much easier on him. Thank you!!
I took my 3 year old to have his hair cut and they did a terrible job with the sides and fringe. Although I have cut his hair in the past, this video helped me greatly to fix his hair and looks great. Thanks!
Im from the Philippines 🇵🇭 your technique is really good. I appreciate it very much. Thank you for sharing your technique. By the way im freelance hairstylist here in my country. ❤❤❤
Great job, both cutting and explaining your process. I’m a cosmetologist who has begun cutting men’s hair recently, so this is an excellent primer. Many thanks for sharing!
I have been cutting my husband’s (and now my 2 sons’) hair since before we were married. Learned from his mom, who I believe is self-taught. I always struggle with the “fringe” or bangs section up front. A video on how to cut that section, and maybe multiple styles of such, would be very helpful!! Thanks for making these videos. So helpful!!
Love it so much and very clear explanation step by step. I use this technique for my baby boy with very thick string long hair. Turns out very cute and beautiful hair cut. I got a great applause from family how much I have done well to my baby boy. Thank you to you sharing this video ❤ following and subscribing here.
Extremely helpful. Thank you so much. My son finds really difficult and stressful to go to cut his hair and I have tried before with clippers at home and I wasn't great at it but finally this video really help me a lot. You explained it perfect. No using clippers anymore.
This haircut tutorial is what I was looking for. I cut my nephews hair from time to time and their hair sticks out like hedgehogs 🦔 thank you so much for the helpful content. One of the best simplest and detailed hair cut tutorials on youtube ❤
I’ve just started really focusing on my scissor over comb technique at cosmetology school and this video is exactly what I needed to pull it all together! Thanks so much for sharing!!! 🤩😀
I have enjoyed your video immensely. I took my hair stylist back in 1978 and I love watching a person that really knows what they are doing. So yes I’m old lol so I have also seen many poor cuts. Keep up the great work you have me as a full time subscriber.🥰
I've only ever buzzed my sons hair. I've watched your videos a few times now and I have now worked up the courage to try it on my 6yr old. I'll let you know how it goes! But I love your videos and your voice! You make it achievable!
Srsly this is sooo helpful! More scissor cuts please!!! This is helping me a lot. Keep it up and soon ill be confident doing this completely by myself.
I’ve been cutting my boys’ hair for years, but have never done the entire thing with scissors like this. You made this look so easy! I’m going to try this method next time!!! Thank you!!!
I do make it look easy, please don’t give up if you aren’t too smooth on the first attempt. I think this needs to be repeated at least ten times before it starts getting easy.
Thank you for these videos I’m learning to cut my sons hair but he has a lot of hair so is much heavier and thick but your videos are helping me alot!! You are amazing at explaining and doing this type of work 🙏🏼
Yes! I'm cutting my brother's hair and his hair is SO much thicker than the model here. I'd love a tutorial on dealing with ultra thick and course (texture) hair.
I'm a licensed barber and own my shop and still enjoy learning. This video was very very easy to follow and you explained exactly how and why you cut each section. Thank you!!!!
Just about to graduate a 600 hr restricted barber course (no chemical services) in Florida. My teacher showed me this form of scissor over comb cutting and like you said it has become second nature or muscle memory at this point. Super excited to get my license and get out in the shops 💪🏻💈
Though I'm not a barber but a hair stylist (hair dresser) I do have clients of different ethnicities & gender. I've always enjoyed mens cuts & have used this technique for many years. I like the clean smooth blended look. It also works well women who want shorter hair. I appreciated you going back through the dry hair because it falls in its natural place & one can see obvious areas to touch up. When the hair is wet the it's not always obvious. I've seen many stylists refuse to do this because 1) mistakes can be hidden in the blow dry by utilizing styling products & 2) they want to get people in & out of their chairs faster. I get completely annoyed. I really enjoyed your video & your I depth explanations. 😊
Overall, your video was very helpful. I wish you had shown the final polish around the front. It looks like you used the finishing clippers there, too? Also, is there a way to determine the correct length? I cut my husband’s very thick hair and if I’m not careful, cutting it too short makes it look like a carpet. Thank you.
I have a small confession, I never intended to make a tutorial out of this video, it was supposed to be an entirely ASMR video, however decided it was good to turn into a tutorial, that said, the little trimmer is really noisy for an asmr type video so at the time I never filmed the trimmer work around the sides. Fo your husbands hair you need to decide on the length that is required to keep a bit of movement in it, and when you make your first cut try not to lose that guide. Maybe start with something just a little longer than usual and each time you cut it you can adjust to a shorter length in needed
Just did this as best i could on my toddler who despises haircuts. So basically i did this cut on a bucking bronco, and though it was the speed and zero fine tuning version, this video was very helpful to give him the least bad haircut he can have. 😅 thank you!
I have no idea what they're teaching your average barber on the street, but it ain't this. It's difficult to find a competent one these days. Great video 👍
I cut my boyfriend’s thick, straight hair for the first time using this tutorial. It took me a really long time but the results looked great! Thank you so much!

My husband and I have been cutting each others hair since the beginning of the pandemic. I cut his after watching your video. It’s the best one so far. Thanks for the great video.
The double crown is a very tricky area to cut. Ultimately you have two choices which are keep it short, it will stand on end but if it’s short you won’t notice it. Or grow it long enough that the weight causes it to collapse. The in between time can be managed by throwing in some hair styling powder and ruffling the hair around the crown to give it some lift
Started cutting my husband's hair in the last 6months. He wanted to save some money since his cut was costing $30 despite being so easy to do. Thanks for this! This is super helpful! Now if only he would cut mine... 🥺
I've always buzzed my boys hair when they were little but now that they are teenagers they are a more fussy 😂 and I have been still cutting their hair at home but I bought a nice pair of scissors only for haircuts and a comb and I am learning how to cut like this scissor over comb method. This is an excellent video for me to learn by. Thank you very much!
I am not professional but I love DIY and so far I am the one who cuts hair of my husband and my two boys.. and now my father in law wants his hair cut by me too.. 😅 .. and I want to refine it a little with more knowledge and refinement ways.. I am so thankful I find your very well demonstrated video.. Thank you so much❤
This tutorial is so helpful! My son has a lot of hair and I prefer to keep it longer and scissor cut but everytime I take him for a haircut it’s so choppy and uneven and way overpriced. My husband was ready to start getting him buzz cuts but I said let me try to cut it at home and if I botch it we can buzz it. Definetly going to be using these techniques, can’t wait to learn more from you!
I was a barber for 62 years. Just retired. Great job, and teacher. Leave a suggestion. When you taper the back bottom or the head. It should be more of a fine taper. Use a smaller come.that will make it look like a master barber hair. It now looks a little like a girls haircut who did not go to barber school. Also a haircut we always did in 15 minutes. To make money that,s what you have to do. Keep at it. You,ll be a good barber. The best, Paul sterner. Ottsville, Pa.

Did my apprenticeship in hairdressing 15 years ago. I gave it up not long after. I have recently decided to do some barbering. Have been practicing on a few friends lateley, have not had anyone with this type of length requiring a scissor cut. This video and others you have are all very informative.
I hope you enjoy learning barbering, I could never be a hairdresser, don't have the patience
I just wanted to comment to say thank you so much! My fiance gets his hair cut by his mother usually because usually people dont know how to cut with scissors only and I did it for him today thanks to your videos!!
You are so welcome! I hope it went well. Are you his new barber now?
Hope he gets better soon. I too was hit by a car once. Well done for helping him and producing something he likes.
Really great tutorial and massively appreciated. I came to barbering at 54 after a long career in the police services. Your manner and style of teaching is soooo good and a joy to watch. Thank you. Michael :-)
That is awesome! I really admire anyone who makes a complete change of career it’s such a leap. But I bet you enjoy cutting hair
I love this 😊
not in barber school. my boyfriend has very overgrown hair and the barbershop is closed this week (we have a gala in a few days). so i got some scissors and will be trying this tonight. wish me luck!
How did it go?
I am not a professional, I only cut my husband's hair. Your videos are very clear and I have learned a lot. Thank you.
You are so welcome!
Lol never cut hair in my life. For some reason this got recommended to me and I ended up watching the whole thing.
You’ve found your calling
Start cutting homie ✂️
Same for me except I have used clippers on my brother's, husband, and son's hair. I'd like to learn to use scissors.
I'm not a barber but Wow, someone made a video that makes sense! I didn't even have audio on and could understand the visuals 🙌
I have mixed curly haired and straight hair kids and I honestly struggle with straight hair so much! Now I can make my straight haired kids as fresh as my curly haired kids. Thank you for this video! 💯
Tank you so much. Im glad it helped 😀
I've been cutting hair for a good many years but mostly fades,Skin Fades, blow outs etc. So all machine i've been trying with siccessors for a little while it seems simple enough in my head but when i apply it with the finger method it feels awkward and takes me a long time even tho it comes out ok i still finish a bit disappointed because im so picky i like this method with the comb i will try this i think its more up my alley thank you
Hope you get on ok with it. It can take a little practice.
The accent, the nice scissor moves, total ASMR 😌
😊 thank you
Honestly, thank you so much for posting this video. Thank you!!
I am glad it helps. It takes a bit of practice this, but you will be able to do it well after a few gos
Looks good, like a texture rather than just flat.
I'm also a beginner barber just completed basic gents haircutting, thanks to your video it taught me alot about scissors haircutting.
Glad I could help
I’m not a barber I just find this videos so relaxing and satisfying it’s ridiculous! I’m weird😂
Welcome!! Maybe it is your calling in life 😁😁😁
I took my 3 year old to have his hair cut and they did a terrible job with the sides and fringe.
Although I have cut his hair in the past, this video helped me greatly to fix his hair and looks great. Thanks!
glad to hear it 😀
I’ve been cutting for three years and these are really great videos and yes, I am really enjoying them and getting a lot out of them. Thank you!
I’m glad to hear that. There will be lots more to come
Im from the Philippines 🇵🇭 your technique is really good. I appreciate it very much. Thank you for sharing your technique. By the way im freelance hairstylist here in my country.
❤❤❤
You are so welcome! And welcome to the channel
Great job, both cutting and explaining your process. I’m a cosmetologist who has begun cutting men’s hair recently, so this is an excellent primer. Many thanks for sharing!
You are most welcome. There is lots of variety on the channel/different types of cuts so you’ll find plenty of useful info here.
Thank you, I will try to show more of the fringe on my next viedo
watching this video then I'm cutting my bfs hair in the morning wish me luck
Ive always done my own hair, but my bf has a mullet so im watching to get a general idea on how to do that tonight 😂
OMG SAME 🤣🤣🤣 I was like damn I bet Im the only chick that don't know how to do dis
@HALO-fr50w0 NO BECAUSE when i ask him a style, he says short
How did it go?😭
Extremely helpful. Thank you so much. My son finds really difficult and stressful to go to cut his hair and I have tried before with clippers at home and I wasn't great at it but finally this video really help me a lot. You explained it perfect. No using clippers anymore.
You are so welcome! I’m glad it helps 😃
Why was this so satisfying to watch? I'm not a hairdresser or a barber!! 😅
You must have barbering in your bones somewhere
This haircut tutorial is what I was looking for. I cut my nephews hair from time to time and their hair sticks out like hedgehogs 🦔 thank you so much for the helpful content. One of the best simplest and detailed hair cut tutorials on youtube ❤
You are so welcome!
I’ve just started really focusing on my scissor over comb technique at cosmetology school and this video is exactly what I needed to pull it all together! Thanks so much for sharing!!! 🤩😀
I'm so glad! Thank you 😊
Stumbled across this gem!! I’ve been cutting for a few years and this is the best explanation of shear over comb I’ve seen.
Awesome! Thank you!🙏
Very impressive
I have enjoyed your video immensely. I took my hair stylist back in 1978 and I love watching a person that really knows what they are doing. So yes I’m old lol so I have also seen many poor cuts. Keep up the great work you have me as a full time subscriber.🥰
You are so welcome! And welcome to the channel.
Love the way you cut the hair I wanna learn to cut my husband s hair
I hope it helps
Excellent tutorial with clear guidance. I appreciated the contrast between fingers and comb comparisons. Thank you.
You're very welcome! 😊
Awesome 👏🏻 I struggle with scissors cutting but I really learn a lot with your videos. Love your channel ❤ Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙏🏻
Thanks for watching Paulina and I am glad its useful😊
I've only ever buzzed my sons hair. I've watched your videos a few times now and I have now worked up the courage to try it on my 6yr old. I'll let you know how it goes! But I love your videos and your voice! You make it achievable!
Thank you I hope it goes ok
Srsly this is sooo helpful! More scissor cuts please!!! This is helping me a lot. Keep it up and soon ill be confident doing this completely by myself.
Thank you Judith, I have a lot of scissor tutorials on my channel where you could learn many techniques
You are amazing at explaining and doing this type of work 🙏🏼
You are so welcome! And thank you 😊
👋 welcome. Tell me about your shop. Where is it? How long have you been in business?
my shop is in Pittsburgh PA called CynCityCutz Barber Lounge. We just hit our 3 year mark on May 1st!!!
Hey congrats on three years. That’s a great milestone 🎂
Just about to graduate a 600 hr restricted barber course (no chemical services) in Florida.
My teacher showed me this form of scissor over comb cutting and like you said it has become second nature or muscle memory at this point.
Super excited to get my license and get out in the shops 💪🏻💈
Congratulations on passing your course I wish you all the very best
@@theoneminutebarber thank you so much! I keep watching your videos an learning more and more each time 🙏🏻
Though I'm not a barber but a hair stylist (hair dresser) I do have clients of different ethnicities & gender.
Thank you so much and I agree a good blow dry can hide a lot of mistakes. Whenever I cross check I always find something I can improve.
Благодарю!!!! Вы мне очень помогли 👍
😊 thank you
Very good tutorial. I wish I had access to RUclips when my boys were little. I would’ve definitely used this tutorial.
Thanks for watching!
@@theoneminutebarber thank you for the tip on my husband’s hair. How nice of you!!
@@theoneminutebarbervery helpful, thank you! Same situation! 😊
Just did this as best i could on my toddler who despises haircuts. So basically i did this cut on a bucking bronco, and though it was the speed and zero fine tuning version, this video was very helpful to give him the least bad haircut he can have. 😅 thank you!
Welcome to the club. Cutting toddlers hair can be pretty lively. Well done
I have no idea what they're teaching your average barber on the street, but it ain't this. It's difficult to find a competent one these days.
Great video 👍
Thank you 😊
I cut my boyfriend’s thick, straight hair for the first time using this tutorial. It took me a really long time but the results looked great! Thank you so much!
You are most welcome
Thank you so much 😊
I don't think so good you using comb and hair trimmer .
Why do you think so?
My husband and I have been cutting each others hair since the beginning of the pandemic. I cut his after watching your video. It’s the best one so far. Thanks for the great video.
I'm so glad! Thank you 🙏
The best tutorial ever 👏👏l don’t know why most barbers take hair clippers and make big mess, not all man wants short haircuts.
Thank you for video. The issue with my son’s straight, thick hair is the colics on the crown - we can not grow it out. How can you help?
Glad it helps. With a bit of practice this will become very easy.
I' m trying to cut my husband's hair and this video is very helpful as I just learning to do it , thank you so much I appreciated it xx
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much❤
You’re welcome and thank you very much 😁
This tutorial is so helpful!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you ☺️
I was a barber for 62 years.
Great tip! Thanks Paul
I started learning how to cut hair back in late 2018, always looking to perfect my skill. I look forward to trying this tutorial, will check back in tomorrow, God willing to update on the improvements.
I get a lot of compliments on the haircuts i give but it's all glory to the Lord who guides my hands. ❤ I'd like to find more efficient methods and so here i am at your video
Let me know how you get in with it. God bless you Tami
I’ve done a this haircut twice now and my second time it definitely looked amazing.
That's awesome! Definitely the more you do it the better you will get
Thank you! I'm going to try this today. I was really nervous to cut a man's hair as I only trim my own, but this guide makes me feel much more confident!
You're so welcome!
Wonderful. I'm a licensed stylist with a passion for cutting men's hair. Thanks so much for this video. It's visually easy to understand and follow. I appreciate you
You are so welcome! Thank you 😊
Your cuts are so interesting and so fun to watch...very entertaining. A great Barber is underrated. 💈Thanks for the wholesome content
My pleasure! Thank you 🙏
Im starting barbering❤️this lesson was out standing❤️i used this method ❤its so easy and good .
I’m glad it helped. There is lots on the channel that will help you on your journey
It is my pleasure to share as much knowledge as I can
thankyou im an apprentice at a old school barber in singapore this is really helpful
This really helps me with cutting my son's hair! I appreciate your videos so much! Thank you!
You are so welcome! Thanks for tuning it
Easy to follow video. Cant wait to try this method of cutting with scissors. Just starting out. Thanks for the tips.
Thank you and I really hope it helps.
Been watching you since I started barber school over a year ago, and continue now still in the shop. I have your Udemy classes and follow you on IG. The amount of work you put into these videos is amazing. Not to mention what you contribute to the barber community. You are appreciated sir 🙏🏽
Thanks so much Ryan, I’m not going to lie video is a lot of work. I do enjoy it though but wouldn’t advise it as a quick route to success, it’s taken a long time to gain any traction making these tutorials
@@theoneminutebarber well you make it look easy sir!
I've been cutting my family's hair for the last 17years, and I never knew where to put the comb when I cut under tension, so thanks for that!! Save me from hair in the mouth!😂😂
Also gonna try cutting over the comb, no tension. Thanks!!❤
You're so welcome! Scissor over comb takes a little practice but try it at some point on every haircut and you will pick it up fast
I just found your channel. So glad. I am taking cosmetology class and they are not very good at teaching how to cut a man's hair. Thank you so much for showing and explaining this
You are so welcome! 🙏 there is lots of different tutorials here that you could reference. So have a good look through as there are lots of good nuggets.
That was excellent and everything lines up ~ there are no gaps & nothing is uneven! I love the way you took it vertical in the back as well. I’m going to try this on my dad’s hair where you can see every cut and he has that poker straight course hair that’s not too forgiving.🍾
Straight hair takes no prisoners. Just make sure your sections are very thin. thats quite important on straight hair
Such a helpful video. Thank you!
You're so welcome!😀
Im free lancer hairstylist in the Philippines 🇵🇭. I like the way you cut the hair. Its so cleans and presicion
❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!
The haircut looks beautiful!
This as well as many other of your videos are so helpful.
I cut my husband's and son's hair and your videos have helped me gain more confidence and helped them love their haircuts! Thank you!
You are so welcome I’m glad I can help 😁
