  • I had the 2022 IONIQ 5 Limited for one week and got to experience just about everything about it. The looks are retro, the interior space is luxurious and spacious and it was surprisingly quick as my 0-60 runs will show. The IONIQ 5 is better than the Model Y in a lot of ways as well and I will discuss this in a future video. Enjoy!

    I picked up my limited trim in NY a couple of weeks ago and drove it back to CA (2800+ miles) using only Electrify America charging stations. It comes free with 2 Year unlimited 30 minute sessions. EV infrastructure has improved a lot, it's not perfect (neither is Tesla) but saying this is only a "local only" car is far from accurate.

    • @KaiPonte
      @KaiPonte Год назад

      good point. i'm leaning way towards this car for my first EV. Two years ago, I rented a Kia Niro EV for a month while my '99 Lexus SC400 was being painted. I had zero issues with charging, even though I only have a L1 at home and did a road trip from LA to San Diego.

    • @mikefj2004
      @mikefj2004 Год назад +2

      Electrify America is a crap show and a nightmare. Most of the time, I either can’t get a proper handshake, the chargers are down or the output is not what’s promised. I’m done with it and have moved to Tesla. Wildly different experience. Just my personal experience.

    • @KaiPonte
      @KaiPonte Год назад +2

      @@mikefj2004 Well, I'll be experiencing that soon enough. Now, I also have ChargePoint and EVGo near me, so will see. I ended up purchasing a '22 Mach-e, which should show up in a few days. Crossing fingers.

    The Ioniq 5 is all the rage now. I own a Tesla model y but I'm a fan of this car and the more EV's out there the better for consumers. Well done, Hyundai. Love your honest, unbiased review.

      @@whynotstartusingyourbrain8726 well, every car has its' own problems. Tesla takes months to deliver, and weeks if you need service in the shop. They have that sort of Apple proprietary mentality too so you can't even order their parts to work on it yourself. Every EV suffers inefficiency in cold weather as well. Build quality is.. well Tesla are infamous for gaps and imperfect quality control. Maybe one day in the next couple decades they will solve these issues, but for now there's still a trade off for owning Tesla.

    Did you know that the Ioniq 5 in the top configuration allows the owner to set the heated seats and steering wheel to automatic so that the seats and steering wheel heat up when the ambient temperature warrants, and when the ambient temperature rises high enough the seat cooling kicks in? This info is covered in the seldom read but usually useful owner’s manual.

Also, while on the topic of personnel, Luc Donckerwolke and Sang Yup Lee are former Bentley (Luk also designed Lambo/Audi/VW while Sang Yup designed the New Camaro) designers, which is why the Genesis vehicles look like Bentleys

I cant find a dealership charging less than $3000 adjustment for the base and $5000 for the higher models. Most dealerships are charging 5-7k for market adjustment which stinks because they completely take the federal tax credit. I can’t find a limited for under $60k. Any suggestions?

    "[Open the frunk] and there's about enough room to store your Gameboy." LMAO. I love your style of review. Very entertaining and honest review.
    I wish I were in the market for a 60k vehicle 'cause I'd own a Model Y or Model 3 LR by now. I want to like the Ioniq 5 because it looks so cool and it seems so comfy (get ventilated seats, Tesla!) but the blatant lack of rear windshield wiper is obnoxious at best and the infotainment system seems tedious to me (especially compared to Tesla). Ioniq 5 also feels like an all or nothing car. The good features are on the Limited model, period. Maybe in a few years when I am able to afford a new EV there'll be some exciting options coming into the market or current ones will have gotten better. If you're testing this for a bit, you'll probably want to look into how much it limits performance after charging. I think I saw someone saying that was a deal breaker for them.
    *Question on the Ioniq 5:* Does the passenger seat recline the same as the driver seat? The owner's manual seems to say that it doesn't but I've had someone that owns it saying it does.

    • @Gjeebs

      @@Gjeebs I saw a video where three people brought in the 3 trims and compared them side by side, and yeah, it almost seems like the standard is a knockoff version of the others. Lots of things, like the lights and that cool front bar, are upgraded.
      *Here's what only Limited gets:* some of the exterior accents, surround view, blind spot monitor, parking collision avoidance (parking warning sound and forward collision are on SEL), remote park assist, rain-sensing wipers, the "vision" roof, 8-way power passenger front seat with lumbar, ventilated front seats, Relaxion driver seat with memory of settings, adjustable head restraints, Bose audio, the AR HUD, sliding center console, Hyundai digital key, rear sunshades, and V2L in the second row. Nice car and would be great for around town city car with home charging but not a road trip vehicle. Real world range is not close to EPA estimate like most EV's but the real issue is charging. Hyundai advertises 10-80% battery charge in under 18 minutes. Saw multiple reviews that it took around 30 minutes or more even using the highest voltage Electrify America 300 charger. I don't blame Hyundai for this but relying on subpar charging networks make non Tesla vehicles terrible for long hauls.

  • @amartins02
    @amartins02 2 года назад

    12:41 Exactly. Local driving. Third party chargers, the rate of charge and whether they are operational is sooooo sporadic. Tesla you set a location in the navigation and it incorporates stops for charging at superchargers, preconditions the battery etc. Right now most of these non Tesla EV's don't do that. Most don't even integrate the charging on long trips and you have to use a separate app to find chargers and figure out the rate and how long you need to charge to get to the next stop. It sucks.
    But for mostly local drives where you'll charge 99% of the time at home then they are Tesla competitors....not 1:1...but they will probably steal some sales. Especially since Tesla no longer has a fed rebate.

    The rear seats leaning back and the way the cargo cover moves to compensate is part of a lot of older hyundai/kia suvs. Nothing new.

    LOL literally looking at KSL here in Utah and dealerships already have it marked up 10k. Seeing 2 adds for Limited Trims for $61,000! Man, I can afford a 35-40k car. But Jesus, we wont see affordable good looking electric cars for another 8 years.

    I don't understand several features of the car:
    1. Paddle shifters to control the regenerative braking. I've set my sensitivity prior to driving and haven't changed it since... Are people actually adjusting this while they drive?
    2. Why oh why did they put that silly magnet pad on the left side of the wheel... Gimmicks in 50k+ vehicles make no sense to me. Why have that option and who would really use it?

    • @erasolarpr
      @erasolarpr 2 года назад

      You press and hold Right paddle shifter and it turns on and off the Auto Regen, one of the best feature of the car, it allows the car to determine when to increase or decrease the Regen intensity depending on time if factura including roads, traffic and other.
      If you keep holding the left one it activates the I pedal for maybe just an instant and then it can go back to the setting it was before.

    Two big questions. I am a Kia owner and these are major issues for me. Local dealer is no help, no real test drives. First, how fast must I be going for Kane Keep Assist to work? Second, with shadows on a 2-lane road, does LKA work? How would you rate the LKA/Active Driver Assistance features with Tesla MY? I have a MY on order, just the LR, no options, and the I5 Limited would be well over $12k cheaper after the tax credit. Just not sure I would be happy with the I5 if especially if it suffers from the same ADAS issues as my Kia. Thanks!

      @zacweggeland9912 2 года назад

      I've driven about 500 miles with HDA/LKA on in my EV6 and never had it freak out once from shadows. It spazzes out a bit when someone in front of you is very slowly turning into a driveway off of a 2-lane road without using the shoulder since it thinks traffic is coming to a stop, but can't really blame it for that.

      @@DiscoveryOwners lka seems to be active at any speed, or at least I’ve never noticed it not staying on in my driving. Then again I’m not ever using it in urban driving. I think highway drive assist needs you to be above 25mph to activate it but once active will drop all the way to 0.

    Tax credit is not anything close to the net cost after rebate as implied. $7500 tax credit will give you a deduction from your gross income that may result in a nominal tax benefit at best.

    • @SethKrieger
      @SethKrieger 2 года назад +1

      No, that is NOT correct. If your federal income tax for the year is $7500 or more, you can apply the entire credit, reducing taxes due by 7500$. We have enjoyed this credit on our PHEV as well as a much larger credit on our solar system. Our taxes are prepared by a CPA who really knows what he is doing, BTW.

    • @MoneyShot702
      @MoneyShot702 2 года назад +1

      Not true, if you have at least $7500 in federal tax liability then you'll get the whole $7500 back (or reduce what you owe by $7500). It does Not just adjust your income like a deduction would.

    • @nothin2chere626
