I have 32k miles on my '23 Ioniq 6 AWD SE with 18 inch wheels/tires. I have averaged 4.8 Miles per kwh, which means 370 miles range out of a 77 kw battery. This over two summmers and one winter in zone 5 NW NJ. I drive carefully and usually in Eco mode (rear wheen drive) and use the great seat heaters rather than cabin heat when I can. This is significantly better than the Ioniq 5 (and the Ioniq 6 with 20 inch wheels/tires). I see no reason not to get the AWD-so long as you drive it in Eco mode, you will equal the range and efficiency of the RWD model, but you have AWD ready when you need it. The car heas been great. Very roomy inside for people of average height.
Great review guys! We own 2 Ioniq 5 AWD limiteds. One in Cyber Gray, the best most iconic color for this car IMO. And the second is a Lucid Blue. Love them both so much! The 6 looks cool, but not my personal taste. The 5 is so retro futuristic cool with vibes of delorean, lancia delta integrale, VW GTi and Audi Quattro all rolled into one. Gotta love it! It attracts so much attention. We constantly get compliments on them.
Frunk is awesome for restaurant leftovers so it doesn't smell up the cabin. And putting valuable things you don't want stolen via breaking a window (like you did Yuri when you went skiing).
18:12 regular EV commuter here, I can pitch in some data here. The charger you are at is a 400V level charger meaning both the cars are using their rear motor’s inverter to charge by using it as a sort of dynamo/regen. The power is limited by the motor unit’s capability which is about 60-80kW peak, this would be the same speed you’d see if you get to charge these on Tesla superchargers with magic dock. You are on power shared chargers if you can get some more details on the dispenser label, cable spec (printed on the cable) and power unit data I can ahead more light on load sharing
The 6 is pretty sexy, even with the front headlights being amorphous and anonymous. Very attractive sedan. The 5 is very fun design, and I love the moveable center console. If it were my car, I'd choose the 6.
I own an i5 and have test driven an i6 for three days. You guys are undervaluing the driving difference. I have to say the i6 has much better suspension and handles much better at speed. At low speed no real difference, but going 100km/h or faster, the difference is very noticeable. Also the lane assist that forces the car back into the lane and cannot be disabled permanently is far less aggressive in the i6 and thus much more pleasant. I hope future versions of the i5 will get the same!
You can customize the “star” button on the dash and steering wheel separately. I have dash set to CarPlay and steering wheel set to “home”. So you can have quick access to certain functions with hard buttons.
Both are knockouts, but I'm practicality focused now and just can't get past the Ioniq 5 and all of its usability. The Ioniq 6 puts the MINI to shame with all of its unique design features now.
Prefer the design of 5 but the style of 6 would attract more attention. Do think the 6 needs blistered fenders which would add a lot more presence especially with it's narrow looking fascia.
Hyundai designers have really hit their stride - however - they need to work on lower body cladding designs on most of their cars. The 6 here needs a different rear bumper and the 5 needs to have all it's body cladding toned down. They went texture and pattern crazy. The 5 would be a homerun with simple cladding and fewer vents. Excellent review, as always.
Hey guys, something I'd love to see you add to your list of things to check is whether or not a EV's brake lights turn on when the regen braking is high, even if the brake pedal isn't being touched. I've seen some EVs let off the "gas" and just slow right down as if they're braking, but there's no brake light at all, and it feels like that could be dangerous. I'd love to see EV makers include a feature to turn the brake light on when the deceleration is high, just to warn other drivers that you're slowing down a good deal. I figure if you guys start looking for that and mentioning it, the reps at the auto makers will see it and maybe some changes will come along eventually.
I just drove the first delivered in Utah Ioniq 6 Limited Transmission Blue home on 5/4/23 and my wife complained that I had my foot constantly on the brake pedal (I did not) however the Regen at Level 2 obviously activates it!! One beautiful car!! I sped out my security gate at Tuhaye in Kamas upon my returning the guard at the gate said he wondered what the H ___ had passed by him!! He loved it!! Thanks to Preston at Murdock of Murray!
Seeing a BMW in between two Ioniqs really puts in perspective how big the difference is between really good design and whatever BMW thinks they’ve been doing
IONIQ 5 is still an overall better vehicle. Hyundai put the steering wheel buttons on backwards on the IONIQ 6 from every Hyundai ever made, which tend to throw off current Hyundai owners already used to the locations. Plus, no parallel parking, no HUD, less cargo space, no relaxation seat, the window controls are on the console but mirror controls on the dash?? The only advantages that I can see on the IONIQ 6 are the dual color ambient lights and the 20" wheels coming on multiple trims. Stick with the IONIQ 5, it's a better value.
Great review as always. I can’t look at the 6 without seeing my 1979 Chevy Monza 2+2. The overall shape , front & rear are very similar. Maybe the 6 is retro-futuristic as well.
i love both but that Ioniq 5 looks crazy good, that car will look amazing forever. i will say the back of the 6 looks amazing, and i could see myself in either vehicle
All of the Tesla Model 3 owners I know who have driven the Ioniq 5 would never want to switch. There's quite a bit that Hyundai gets wrong including software and charging.
@@TheStraightPipes I did a test drive and sat in one two times and haven’t noticed it. But since I am exceptionally tall I think I unconsciously learned myself to sit with my legs apart. Otherwise I my knees will touch de steering wheel in some smaller EU cars.
Ionic 5 would've been SOOOO much better if it was a subcompact hatchback instead of the massive SUV that it is. And the Ionic 6 is just a huge disappointment because the concept looked so much better (Prophecy Concept)
Been with you guys since the Honda Odyssey review (VTECH gang whaddup?? lol). Love the attention to detail you guys give in your reviews when it comes to infotainments and the overall user experience. I love the design of both the Ioniq 5 and 6, but have to say kudos to Hyundai for not over-engineering the front-end design of the Ioniq 6. I've been getting tired of them designing their front ends to have massive fog lights and itty-bitty headlights, it makes the cars look disproportional imo. Plus the amber LED DRLs look fantastic and evoke memories of the Kia Telluride of years past haha. The 6 looks like a normal design you'd see from about 10 years ago, but given a futuristic look with the pixel LEDs. The back-end however is another story lol🤣
I wish they kept that look of the 5 when designing that 6. I don't really like SUVs but that 6 just looks too weird for me. If they made a sedan that just looked like a mini 5, I would 100000% buy it.
The star buttons can be customized. I have the steering wheel star button set to take me back to the home screen (so I don't have to mess with menus from carplay/Android auto)
The regen options are *not* for "brake regen", they are for "accelerator liftoff regen". Brake pedal always has full regen available on it in all BEVs (except Tesla that doesn't have that at all).
Very timely! Thanks. I’m getting REALLY IMPATIENT waiting for a Fisker Ocean. So am thinking about going back to last years choice, IONIQ 5. Or maybe the 6. Based on this comparison I like the 5 for leg room and seat height. And looks. 😊
I love the look of both! they both have elements of 1990s design (5: classic hot hatch, 6: sporty lean curvature without looking like all the modern cough drop cars) which I sorely miss. the Ioniq 5 N is an even tastier 5, but with rumors of a 5 XRT version in the works, I'm excited to decide which I want more between the 5N & the 5XRT!
I own a 5. Have for over a year. Tbh the 5 gives you everything you need in terms of speed and handling but if you need the additional range I'd choose the 6. I have a home charger and networks around me are pretty good. Hope that helps you out. I highly suggest getting upgrades to the floor mat if you have a lower trim level. Maybe don't choose the light interior option of either of you're anything less than supremely tidy. They're a bit tough to keep clean.
If the Ioniq 6 had a liftback/hatchback style of loading input. Then I will choose the 6! I come from a classic Ioniq, and now I am a happy owner of the Kia e Niro Executive line 64 Kwh. That's why the Ioniq 5 in every way the more stylish, comfortable, and practical EV. Only consumption would be more, but that's is another thing to compare about it!
I'm not sure about styling on the 6, the curved line at the bottom of the windows is a little extreme. It doesn't look like any other Hyundai product. Of the Kia/Hyundai electric cars my order would be EV6, then GV60, I5, and the I6.
Best way to configure buttons is to configure the Steering Wheel Star button to Homescreen and HVAC panel Star button to Phone Projection (Android Auto/CarPlay)
My only gripe with the ionic six is the tiny trunk. Compared to all of the other hyundai's I think this is literally the smallest one. That trunk needs to be at least fifty percent bigger.
The back end of the 6 looks like a MKZ with a Porsche whale tail. But man does the side profile and nose kill the looks. I'll take the Ioniq 5 even if it is the crossover.
Ioniq 5 is so amazing. It is the pioneer of future car.The design is so cosmic, like the car from another galaxy, also remind me like Robocop car, back to the future but still futuristic. Love it
I’d take the 5 ,but I want it to be V2H . 3.6kw output not enough to run the house here in Australia , or anywhere for that matter . For now , I’ll stick to my recently imported 97 PROWLER !! With the TRAILER !! Thanks to Tony Goetz for the intro to Ed at Port Huron ,whom I bought the car off . Love the Straight Pipes 👍
One huge complaint and something I dont understand. IF you use the OEM navigation, then you get the HUD directions in the KIA EV6 GTline. BUT!!! If you use the Android Auto or Apple Car Play, that all goes away. Which makes no sense.

Or wait a while longer and get the Ioniq 6N which will have better handling dynamics over the 5N.
I'm driving a Tesla model S. Yesterday, I was with my brother 's ioniq 6. Very comfortable. Steady. Quiet interior . I gave 9/10 for this car.
The drag coefficient in Canada is actually . 22 for lower trims and . 24 for the Ultimate.
It's only . 21 in lower trims in markets where they have the cameras instead of side mirrors
Makes sense

both are excellent looking vehicles, in my opinion
Nice onions
Went to South Korea recently, and there were soooo many Ioniq 5 and 6 as taxis! 😎
I would go for the 6 at the same price as the 5 since the driving range is significantly better
2 videos in 1 day, LETS GOO! LOVE THE REVIEWS. KEEP IT UP JAKUB AND YURI!
5 is way better. And only thing I’d like to see is more mile conversions displayed when talking EV range. Thanks guys! Love the channel!
Ordered an ioniq 5! Wait times are long, it's expected to come by Christmas. I can't wait!😊
Frunk is awesome for restaurant leftovers so it doesn't smell up the cabin. And putting valuable things you don't want stolen via breaking a window (like you did Yuri when you went skiing).
Love the rear 3/4 angle of the Ionic 6! Gives me vintage Porsche 911 vibes.
Rearly?
18:12 regular EV commuter here, I can pitch in some data here. The charger you are at is a 400V level charger meaning both the cars are using their rear motor’s inverter to charge by using it as a sort of dynamo/regen. The power is limited by the motor unit’s capability which is about 60-80kW peak, this would be the same speed you’d see if you get to charge these on Tesla superchargers with magic dock.
You are on power shared chargers if you can get some more details on the dispenser label, cable spec (printed on the cable) and power unit data I can ahead more light on load sharing
If that was true, how can I get 145 kw/h on a 400 v 150 kw charger in my Ioniq 5? ;)
The 6 has a French vehicle (Citroen) appearance to me. I like it a lot. And I'm 5' 8". Sold
Still no rear wiper ☹
Not being a hatch kills the 6 for me. Team 5 all the way.
Ioniq 5 all day! I'm obsessed with the retro futuristic look of it.
Very courageous of Hyundai to design the 6 that way. Such styling is bound to put many buyers off. The 5 is so much more practical and better looking.
I reckon the 6 will look way better with metallic paint. It just looks really plasticky in that gray color.
Aerodynamics
I think naming will be something like this:
IONIQ 1: Subcompact Crossover (Electric Venue)
IONIQ 2: Subcompact Sedan and/or Hatchback (Electric Accent)
IONIQ 3: Another Subcompact Crossover (Electric Kona Replacement (if that ever happens))
IONIQ 4: Compact Sedan and/or Hatchback (Electric Elantra)
IONIQ 5: Compact Crossover (Electric Tucson)
IONIQ 6: Midsize Sedan (Electric Sonata)
IONIQ 7: Midsize 3-row Crossover (Electric Palisade)
You two make car reviews a lot less boring!
Thank you
You can customize the “star” button on the dash and steering wheel separately.
Your preference is Hyundai priority concern
Ya they turn on when using level 2 regen
I just drove the first delivered in Utah Ioniq 6 Limited Transmission Blue home on 5/4/23 and my wife complained that I had my foot constantly on the brake pedal (I did not) however the Regen at Level 2 obviously activates it!! One beautiful car!! I sped out my security gate at Tuhaye in Kamas upon my returning the guard at the gate said he wondered what the H ___ had passed by him!! He loved it!! Thanks to Preston at Murdock of Murray!
You guys are great! Keep doing what you do, and treasure your friendship!
Seeing a BMW in between two Ioniqs really puts in perspective how big the difference is between really good design and whatever BMW thinks they’ve been doing
The bmw is from 2007
@@Maarioo007 And it's one of the best looking they've done. People are on something
Good stuff! Love the video. I own an Ioniq 5 myself but love seeing the 6. Personally prefer the 5 myself as it feels so much more spacious
I am the opposite! I have the 6 and love seeing 5's around in Australia. Haven't yet seen another 6 yet (only been out a week).
I am an owner of the Ioniq 5 and after seeing the Ioniq 6, I would still pick the Ioniq 5.
Great review as always. I can’t look at the 6 without seeing my 1979 Chevy Monza 2+2. The overall shape , front & rear are very similar. Maybe the 6 is retro-futuristic as well.
For me I see infinity j30 tailights
The 6 has definitely taken some cues from Porsche with that design, really nice!
porsche rear and citreon big time!
4:44 Digital side cameras are available for the Ioniq 5 here in S Korea🇰🇷
We call the “DiSiMi” ^^
These both give me so much 90s tech nostalgia I love it
i love both but that Ioniq 5 looks crazy good, that car will look amazing forever. i will say the back of the 6 looks amazing, and i could see myself in either vehicle
Great review guys. Would love to see a comparison between ionic 6 and tesla model 3.
All of the Tesla Model 3 owners I know who have driven the Ioniq 5 would never want to switch. There's quite a bit that Hyundai gets wrong including software and charging.
Great to see a couple of local boys running a successful youtube channel.
I love the Ioniq 5. It reminds me of the N Vision 74.
Thanks. We’re having a local meet next Saturday. Check our RUclips community section if you can make it 👍
I think I’d take the 6 for the additional range and efficiency, if I could fit (6’3”).
When I sit in the back seat,my head touches the ceiling.(6’1")
@@TomyJin I don’t have to sit in the back though ;)
I am 6’6” and ordered the 6. Without the sunroof I have more than enough room.
@@Loekie-de-leeuw your knee doesn’t hit the shifter?
@@TheStraightPipes I did a test drive and sat in one two times and haven’t noticed it. But since I am exceptionally tall I think I unconsciously learned myself to sit with my legs apart. Otherwise I my knees will touch de steering wheel in some smaller EU cars.
Ionic 5 would've been SOOOO much better if it was a subcompact hatchback instead of the massive SUV that it is.
And the Ionic 6 is just a huge disappointment because the concept looked so much better (Prophecy Concept)
I think the 6 might grow on people more overtime, but it is very bubbly
Celsius > bubly
VTEC VAN!
My local dealer won't even talk about selling me a 5, they are simply not available.
5 looks better to my eyes and seems more useful in day to day existence, the 7 has best THX copyright infringement, but the 6 range is where it’s at…
So does the Ioniq 6 have the HUD option? apparently it doesnt in the NA trim but it seems like your unit does somehow.
I have one so definitely the Ioniq5. More practical and looks better in my opinion 😉
Just got a 6 in red, it's a good looking car.
congrats!
The regen options are *not* for "brake regen", they are for "accelerator liftoff regen". Brake pedal always has full regen available on it in all BEVs (except Tesla that doesn't have that at all).
Ya that is what I meant. I’ll correct my wording next ev!
StraightPipes would not be the same if it wasn’t both of them. I do agree they compliment eachother
How come they never mentioned how eerily similar the ionic 6’s rear looks to the porche 911 from the late 80s?!
? Coz they don't look alike at all go check your eyes
To get to home there are 3 customizable buttons on Ioniq 5. 2 on steering and 1 on dash. Assign home to any one of them
Very timely! Thanks. I’m getting REALLY IMPATIENT waiting for a Fisker Ocean. So am thinking about going back to last years choice, IONIQ 5. Or maybe the 6. Based on this comparison I like the 5 for leg room and seat height. And looks. 😊
I love the look of both! they both have elements of 1990s design (5: classic hot hatch, 6: sporty lean curvature without looking like all the modern cough drop cars) which I sorely miss.
the Ioniq 5 N is an even tastier 5,
but with rumors of a 5 XRT version in the works, I'm excited to decide which I want more between the 5N & the 5XRT!
I’m 17 and trying to choose between these two for my first car, but I’m so split
Ionic 5 Exterior any day over Ionic 6, the tetris led is so well done.. under the hood and interior, definitely the 6! Hope to afford one soon!
I've ordered the 6! I absolutely LOVE it!
I like the Ioniq 5 way better, best looking ev so far...
Couldn't buy the 6 on looks alone... the 5 is straight-up 80s-inspired genius.
I'm not sure about styling on the 6, the curved line at the bottom of the windows is a little extreme. It doesn't look like any other Hyundai product. Of the Kia/Hyundai electric cars my order would be EV6, then GV60, I5, and the I6.
Hyundai please give us the ultimate package with 18" wheels. The range loss for the 20" is too much.
I ultimately decided to go for the Ioniq 5 and im stoked on it!
Hey Guys! New to your site. Love your content! I am in the process of looking into the Ioniq 6. ( My first EV!) Its such a big step. I'm a little nervous. Oh and I am 5'4" LOL.
TEAM IONIQ 5 👇
Ioniq 5 FTW!!!
Back looks Porsche like, but the front tried to look like a Porsche but ended up bland and old
Ioniq 5 looks more unique as a car
5 is dope. Only thing that made me like it less is when I visited Seoul last summer, there’s a lot of Ionic 5 taxis there, and driving a taxi car just seems less cool
Put a rear wiper on the 5 and I'm sold.
@@rmsjern the back looks like a Porsche only because of the slope and spoiler for aerodynamics. As a whole, the back doesn't look anything like a Porsche.
