Happy Weds everyone! We wanted to confirm that Hyundai has said an Ioniq5 N is coming in the future and we are looking forward to testing it and the EV6 GT later this year! If you didn't need the extra speed and wanted to spend about $57,000, would you get the Ioniq 5 or Mach E Premium trim?
When you drove the Ioniq 5 for a week, and got 250 miles range in cold weather, which mode were you in, and at what average speed? That is very impressive cold-weather range.
Once Law enforcement started driving Mach-e in my area, I was out on them. Don’t want a cop car. Waiting for Fisker Ocean still. The hatchback Ioniq is not cool.
The customer tha lt is willing to pay the dealer that charges the most in BS fees, will have 1 tomorrow! CT and NY dealers have Ioniq5, NJ dealers has a few MustangE's
Huge? No. A Chevy Suburban is huge. The Ioniq 5 is retro-futuristic hatchback/crossover that’s quite small on the outside though Tardis-like on the inside. I love them both but the underlying technology (350kW charging!) of the Hyundai is superior though the plug-&-charge of the Mach-E is a must have convenience feature shared with Teslas.
I'd choose the Ioniq5 because I love the retro-modern styling, the super fast charging and the performance is more than adequate for me. Plus the price isn't nearly as offensive as the Mach-E GT. Great comparison!
Having just sold my Mach E GT, I totally agree. Liked equipped it’s $73k - $80k out the door. Not worth it at all. Too heavy, too slow, and way slow charging capabilities
I own an Ioniq 5 and I love it!!!! In terms of range the Ford wins with the California route 1. In terms of styling I went with the Hyundai, but it's subjective. All in all I think you can't go wrong with either one.
@@LoneWolf-bb8kx No markups. It was Suresky chrysler/hyundai dealer in NY. I had previously bought a minivan from them. I told them I was interested in a Limited and they called me when they had one allocated. I was nervous at first b/c they didn't even ask for a deposit or anything...and said they trust our prior relationship. It was super easy - no games. Only $175 NYS registration fee. I would highly recommend them.
I recently did my first ev trip w my Ioniq 5, and the charging time was not that bad. It was the EA experience that t I didn’t care for - 20 mins detour off the hwy and chargers that either didn’t work and semi working.
I did my first cross country drive in my EV6 gt line. It shares the same platform with Ioniq5. I charged 22% to 83% around 20 minutes. It was quick enough to take a quick break and run the bathroom. I stopped by Electrify America stations and it was not even 350Kw but 200 something Kilowatt but still fast.
Mach-E is like buying a real modern luxury sports car. Ioniq5 is like buying a moving laptop. Mach-E is a clear winner in my eyes, id even take it over a Model Y
I saw both of these at the Washington Auto Show back in January and the Ioniq was getting all the attention from the crowd - so much that I could not sit in the interior. Indeed, looks are deceiving, the Ioniq still looks like a hatchback when you see it in person but like XL size LOL
Nice overview. It would be nice to see reviews and comparisons where the "daily driver" needs are focused upon. You mentioned in your full review of the Ioniq 5 that you had it for the week, and since you own the Mach E, it would have been a great opportunity to show off the everyday utility of each and how they compare/contrast. For example, a typical daily routine of leaving the house (presumably with the car well-charged because you have it on your L2 overnight), driving 10-20 miles (20-30 mins) in stop-and-go city and freeway traffic, getting parked, and then running a few errands on the way home. You did the side-by-side acceleration test on the freeway, which is tantalizingly close to what I'm referring to. How are both to navigate traffic, both in acceleration and braking, as well as the traffic aids that can help you. The blind spot camera views that come up on the Hyundai's display when you activate the turn signal are pretty cool, and the speed-sensitive cruise control can make rush hour much more manageable. The summon feature of the Hyundai could be pretty handy for tight parking situations, but I never park in a tight situation, so I don't know how truly useful it would be for me. How is the visibility in each car? Can you turn on the cameras while driving, to see back, forward, and to the side? If you activate your turn signal when there is something in the way, is there an alarm of any kind to warn you? Fords commonly have the BLIS system, which just lights up a logo in the mirror when there is something there, but it would be nice for more, such as an audible alarm, display, and/or haptic seat warning. How big of a downside is the lack of the Mach E's magnetic dampers in cars that don't have them? That's a feature that seems like it would be really nice to smoothen out the ruts, bumps, and frost cracks of a common freeway and city street situation in the cold portions of the country, but did you miss it in the Ioniq 5 in your testing? So many questions, and I understand that there's only so much time to devote to each car, but maybe an idea for generating another video using the footage and notes you took and used for the other videos? If not, at least something to consider for the future...
Great comparison test! I love that you express your true real world opinion about the vehicles that you review, and are not swayed by your relationship with different companies.
I love your none biased opinion on the cars. I really thought you would favor the Ford more since it's yours but you gave your very best opinion on both vehicles. You my friend by far make the best videos on car reviews!!! Awesome work.
Saw the I5 in person yesterday and it is deceptively massive. I imagined it to be a hatchback/sedan but in person it seems bigger than the Mach-e. Super surprised and impressed
This Hyundai is a much better bang for your buck. It looks solid. I took a ride in one at the NY International Auto Show, and I was thoroughly impressed.
The speed isn't all that important. Both have usable acceleration for merging and passing. The thing is, to me, the Hyundai looks more finished. More detailed. Tighter in its design. And the interior doesn't feature just a large tablet on the dash, it actually has a more of a car-like look to it. The Hyundai is more distinctive although the Ford is reasonably stylish. I'd likely go for the Hyundai if I had to choose but I seriously don't like crossovers. The one that feels least like a crossover would also be the one I favor.
I have two nearby neighbors that all of a sudden bought the Ioniq 5 ... i see them everyday. As much as I liked the styling initially, its novelty is growing old quick. Can't put my finger on it but ...
Id have to go with the EXACT same Mach E you got. Regardless of range and all that other stuff. LOVE LOVE LOVE your Mach E! And Althought the Hyundai looks good it does remind me of my Moms old Chevy Citation.
notice how the ioniq 5, they paid attention to detail and hid the side reflectors in the headlight module unlike the mach e to keep a clean side profile. damn, thats thought out.
Here in Canada our Ford Mustang AWD EXT range GT MSRP is CAD$88,900.00, the Mach-e Premium AWD EXD range is CAD$78,540.00 while the Hyundai Iconic 5 Preferred AWD Ext with the Ultimate trim (top trim version) is $62,144.00,
and here in BC the Iconic 5 even top trim is eligible for $8,000.00 Federal / Provincial EV credit off MSRP at point of sale, so that drops the price even lower, such a true value for the IONIC 5
It's obvious! The best is the Hyundai Ioniq 5. It has been chosen as the best car of the year, the best design of the year and of course, the best BEV of the year...💪👏👍 With 5 ⭐ Euro NCAP.
How long does the Ioniq take for delivery? I ordered my Mach E on Oct. 1 and still don't have it. It's at the dealers with a bad module and that's all I know.
Great review. Seems like the Ioniq 5 would be a better road trip ev because of the fast charging. Almost comparable to filling up with gas from an empty tank. If you travel a lot, then the Ioniq 5 is the way to go.
Keep in mind, the charger has to charge that fast. There is a review on the Mach E GT where both the chargers the guy went to on his road trip couldn't even charge at the Mach E max speed. Apparently, a lot of the charging stations out there suck. Also, I have a 26 gallon tank, which isn't huge, but it is large. It does not take anywhere NEAR 18 minutes to fill, so no, 18 minutes charge is not anywhere near comparable to filling an empty tank, it takes me 2-3 mins.
It's really strange that the Ioniq 5 has a delayed acceleration on the highway in sports mode. Are all Ioniq 5 affected by this, or is it just this tester car?
If these were the only EV's available and I had to pick one, I'd definitely go I5. It has a really cool look about it and stands out, plus the great interior space and being more of a hatch than an SUV. The 800v doesn't matter to me because benefits are negligible. If somebody can ever show their I5 charging at 350kW, I'd be shocked. the 18 minute to 80% is a marketing gimmick.
There needs to be a Winter test on these cars - how much range does it lose, how does it do in terms of traction, charging in cold...being someone who requires 500 km+ regardless of temperature, this is critical, since I drive 300-400 km a day!
I live in Canada, this past winter, TONS of Mach E owners were complaining that their range got halved and not being able to properly heat the ''cabin''... I would think twice before purchasing a Mach E in Canada or colder climates... for now anyway, hopefully they will fix this issue...
@@richardscathouse VERY true... it's a gimmick for MOST people IMO, even living in Canada (Montréal)... I actually drive a RWD and never had any issues in winter...
Apples and oranges comparison. This is like comparing a Corvette with a Toyota Camry. A year ago I drove the Ioniq 5 and the all electric Ford Mustang. In my opinion, which is totally subjective, the Ioniq 5 won hands down, which is why I bought it. I can understand if you are a sports car enthusiast why you would go for the Mustang. The Mustang that I test drove had one pedal driving like Tesla. The Ionic 5 offers choices - one pedal as one of the options but you can decide how much regenerative braking to use, which is a great feature. My Ioniq 5 has incredible acceleration and it charges from 10-80% in less than 18 minutes every time. I love the styling. That being said, there is no right answer. It comes down to what you prefer. We are fortunate to have so many choices.
I really like the Ioniq 5, but I can’t find one without a dealer markup, whereas I have a Mach E GT (non performance)on order. Thinking of either pulling the trigger on the GT or just waiting a year for the ioniq 5 and sacrifice the tax incentive. Any suggestions?
I personally don't think you can go wrong with either. However my vote goes to the Mach-E - Ford really has delivered on a striking EV crossover despite of its name, and the GT trim has a ton of performance that Hyundai just doesn't have the answer to (yet). The Ioniq 5 has the advantage in the 800V fast charging architecture, but I far prefer the design of the Mach-E.
Thank God they are not sequential. Many OEM and aftermarket lighting designs FORCE their way into sequential lighting. Unless you've designed it ground up along with the design of the car like Audi, just don't force it.
Looks go to the Ionic 5. I prefer the placement of the charge port on the MachE. Interior leans Ionic 5 but both have odd issues. Do not like the rear door arrangement for the MachE (sorry, Sofyan). The glass roof is better in the Ionic 5 due to the integrated cover. I still think the frunk is a gimmick, I might use it for the cables but otherwise no. I would buy an Ionic 5 if going full-EV . . . however, I'm more interested in a PHEV.
I don't like the rear door arrangement on the Mach-E either... Feels "unfinished" to me having to push the door popper button then stick my hand in the gap to fully open it. I don't like that. The Ioniq is more unique and interesting for better or worse but I think overall looks go to the Ford. Interior would go to the Ioniq for me too but yes both have a couple ergonomic issues.
@@Stressless2023 I never paid attention to how you have to open the rear doors from outside and now I don't like it either lol overall the Mustang still looks alot prettier to me - The Hyundai gives me cheap plastic toy vibes, too over-styled and kind of dorky looking in my opinion.
Both good cars. We have a MME Premium 4X and a base GT and are very happy with them both but I think I'd be happy with the Hyundai/Kia EVs as well. One thing I'm certain of is that I'll NEVER buy another ICE car!
I'm almost to that point regarding ICE too. The wife is already there since we're on her 2nd Chevy Bolt EV, I just don't know if I want to hold out for one more new ICE car or jump ship now.
I like both. However I would prefer the Mach E GT. The design looks more solid. The Ioniq 5 interior is very underwhelming in my opinion m. It looks cheap by the look of it.
Both nice cars an very different looks but for me I would take the Mach e , even in standard range rwd model, think it looks lovely but must admit it looks beautiful in GT trim in that blue , amazing looking car 👌👍🏴
These look alright but for most people these are way too expensive. They need to have electric cars starting in the $20k’s before you will see a mass exodus from gas powered vehicles.
Strangely enough, that Ioniq5 no rear wiper thing is a deal breaker for me. Can't fathom what the thinking was there. Based on the asking price it can't be cost savings.
I don't care what anybody says my questions are how long do they last and what kind of warranty do they have how much to replace the batteries also how good will it hold up in an accident
Actually, GM made the first affordable 200 mile plus of range car, also Motor Trend's Car of the Year: the Bolt EV. Now you can buy two for the price of one Model Y.
Fine comparo. Where I live in SW FLA the roads are flat, laid out in a grid, and have a traffic light every 100 yards, and they are all red. So 0-60 times dont come in to play, but cooled seats do. For those reasons and my preference for its retro style, my choice will be the Hyundai.
Remember when a 36 inch lcd HDTV was 800 dollars... now you can get one from Walmart for under 200. Same will happen with these. They don't need to be this expensive. There's so much tech in these cars that isn't needed. Someone will come along with range and a reverse camera for under 25k. Check out the Aptera car.
I think about rubber hoses that connect so much of the plumbing in the MachE, seems like an unnecessary future fail point. He almost made the point that you could put a longer nose on the vehicle and have more frunk space, I'd rather have the extra length in the rear.
Well done review! The mustang slow charging would tilt me if I were away from home on the road often. Both are very nice...I'm waiting for the ev6 gt before doing anything.
260 miles from full charge! That's awesome. Do you think it's comparable to the Tesla models? Is there any capacity that Tesla can get to that others cannot?
I really wish the next electric Mustang will have its signature look :( I was kinda disappointed with this design, but if it does come out I will get it in a heartbeat!
I am thrilled to see more and more electric only cars and trucks coming to the market. Grid sized battery storage is finally making it practical to store many types of energy from the sun, wind, geothermal, tidal and many more. Without getting into politics, we have to end the ways that oil and natural gas are used as weapons. Let everyone use gasoline and diesel vehicles for weekend fun trips, Sunday drives and incredible car shows in the parks with fun cars and coffee meetups.
The quirky styling of the Hyundai reminds me of how the Scion XB was ugly, but cool. That look doesn't last long and while it's edgy and cool now, the Mustang will age much better. I'm curious as to how the accelerated charging of the Ionic will work with battery longevity. Mach, might charge slower, but I think it will translate slower battery degradation. I have had different charging stations delivery radically different results with level 3 charging the Mach. I connected to a 350kW EA charger that charged the Mach around 118kW. I have only visited that charger once and delivered 37.3kWh to the battery in 26 min according to the charge log. At some point I need to drive an Ionic for comparison. I will say the Mach GT is a blast to drive and in the first month of driving it, I have found more reasons to like it than not to.

I think the million dollar question nowadays is: Who can deliver their car faster to their customers?
A lot of Hyundai and Kia are built here in US of A
Followed by: will they still sell parts for it in 5 years time?
Or if we have enough resources to make batteries?

I really like the Ioniq 5, but I can’t find one without a dealer markup, whereas I have a Mach E GT (non performance)on order. Thinking of either pulling the trigger on the GT or just waiting a year for the ioniq 5 and sacrifice the tax incentive. Any suggestions?
Is it a particular trim without android/Pple car play, because the sel has it
These are both great cars. Impressed how quickly we've gotten excellent, somewhat affordable EVs.
Somewhat affordable……….😂🤡👈😂😂😂😂😂
Great review Sofyan/Redline ... Both are great vehicles ! Slainte' ! Cheers !
Is 800kwh charging even relevant at the moment? Where would you find a charging station that can offer that speed?
Silly Tesla fanboi, Tesla will never charge over 500kw either. Frunk you?!
Hopefully they announce an Ioniq 5 N sometime soon, other than pure speed I think the Ioniq is better than the Mach E in every way.
Excellent review! 🙌🏻
I agree about the frunk
Both good cars. We have a MME Premium 4X and a base GT and are very happy with them both but I think I'd be happy with the Hyundai/Kia EVs as well.
One thing I'm certain of is that I'll NEVER buy another ICE car!
Is it really 45 minutes to charge to 80% on your cars? The most I've gone is 20% to 80% on my extended range Mach-E and it took 36 minutes.
I'm almost to that point regarding ICE too. The wife is already there since we're on her 2nd Chevy Bolt EV, I just don't know if I want to hold out for one more new ICE car or jump ship now.
@@Stressless2023USD $4-$5 gallon makes you think more about where you're driving and how you're spending your miles.
Love the look of the Ioniq 5 (and the Mach E), I just wish they made the Rear Signals AMBER instead of Red, then it would be 100% Perfect!
Red is better
A rear wiper on the Ioniq5 would help too.
@@robdc4829 it is hidden on the top
I like both. However I would prefer the Mach E GT. The design looks more solid. The Ioniq 5 interior is very underwhelming in my opinion m. It looks cheap by the look of it.
Both nice cars an very different looks but for me I would take the Mach e , even in standard range rwd model, think it looks lovely but must admit it looks beautiful in GT trim in that blue , amazing looking car 👌👍🏴
I like the Ionic 5 the front is so roomy. I was in it at the ny autoshow. It also looks so cool!
These look alright but for most people these are way too expensive. They need to have electric cars starting in the $20k’s before you will see a mass exodus from gas powered vehicles.
You can get an EV for 20k. Just be prepared for a shorter range.
Strangely enough, that Ioniq5 no rear wiper thing is a deal breaker for me. Can't fathom what the thinking was there. Based on the asking price it can't be cost savings.
Same here..I live in a Snow & rainy climate here and i refuse to get out and wipe the rear window.
@@Tinrs80 yep! It sucks, I really like the car otherwise but snowy cities at melting temperatures are absolutely the worst for keeping windows clean.
It is a puzzling design choice. Can you think of be any other CUV currently on the market the set doesn't have a rear wiper?
@@MLHunt The Kia EV6, the Ioniq 5's sibling.
@@MLHunt Yes, the Toyota bZ4X. It also won’t have a rear wiper.
Hey Sofyan, I'm curious if you're seeing 45 minutes 10% to 80% or if it's actually closer to 40 minutes or less?
I don't care what anybody says my questions are how long do they last and what kind of warranty do they have how much to replace the batteries also how good will it hold up in an accident
Definitely love the ioniq5 but I'm hoping that in the future hyundai give it a better frunk.
The slow charging is why we keep trading Mach-E's in on Ionic5s and EV6s
I only like the Mach E in the GT form but price was just too much. Cant wait for the Ioniq N but loving my Ioniq Limited right now
Actually, GM made the first affordable 200 mile plus of range car, also Motor Trend's Car of the Year: the Bolt EV. Now you can buy two for the price of one Model Y.
When will the Ioniq 5 N come out?
I'll say something positive about the Mocker-E, those rims look GREAT 👍
You can't go wrong with either one tbh
I love your license plate 🤣🤣
Did you say go ahead Bo? That’s awesome.
I wish we could see more EVs that are awd that go closer to 350 miles of range
Fine comparo. Where I live in SW FLA the roads are flat, laid out in a grid, and have a traffic light every 100 yards, and they are all red. So 0-60 times dont come in to play, but cooled seats do. For those reasons and my preference for its retro style, my choice will be the Hyundai.
Id be happy owning either of these when I can afford a 50k car 25 years from now
Remember when a 36 inch lcd HDTV was 800 dollars... now you can get one from Walmart for under 200. Same will happen with these. They don't need to be this expensive. There's so much tech in these cars that isn't needed. Someone will come along with range and a reverse camera for under 25k. Check out the Aptera car.
Musk is also a good reason not to buy a tesla, but I digress. Thanks for this review. Good stuff.
Good video. I love the licence plate on the Ford.
Will you review the BMW i4? edrive 40 or M50
I think about rubber hoses that connect so much of the plumbing in the MachE, seems like an unnecessary future fail point.
He almost made the point that you could put a longer nose on the vehicle and have more frunk space, I'd rather have the extra length in the rear.
Should drive the ME backward, the rear looks better than the front
I love the vanity plate on the Mach e
Well done review! The mustang slow charging would tilt me if I were away from home on the road often. Both are very nice...I'm waiting for the ev6 gt before doing anything.
Great work Sofyan!
How long do these batteries last, and how expensive are they to replace?
They last a very long time and are very expensive to replace, so far
@@rp9674 can you define “A very long time”?
@@E.Carrillo I'm not there yet, 7 years and 72,000 mi no sign of degradation.
@@rp9674 thats great thank you for the info.
@@E.Carrillo also I know someone who had 10-year-old Leaf, known for the worst degradation, his is degraded but he still drives it.
I’ll take Mach E over the ioniq5
Mach e is a great design. In 5 years it will still look great. The ioniq seems to be designed to stand out from the crowd.
The Mach-E marketing department missed the talking point of the Mach-E using parts made by Continental in Russia.
I would choose ioniq5 over mustang.
Very Nice Bro! Get Good People!
I prefer the Mustang, but I like the Kia version better than either of these. No wireless Apple Car play or Android auto is a huge bummer for me.
The Ioniq 5 N would be a good comparison when it hits the market soon
