Skill Up I have to ask you how long would you recommend playing a game like Prey before sitting firm in an opinion of it? I've played the demo and didn't much care for it yet I respect and value your opinion . I have had it happen where I've played a game and my first opinion changed due to later events in the game . What say you on this about Prey?
Hey, just a small note: in the video you mentioned you're gonna link the Prey review in the description but the description contains all reviews but Prey.
Skill Up while I did enjoy this version of prey I still want the bounty hunter prey that was supposed to be made. That said, you compared this dlc to my favorite game genre, deus ex, dishonored, splinter cell, etc. I watched the trailer and i'm..unsure. I had fun with prey and wanted to start over to go full alien but I just couldn't find the motivation to do it. That's why I'm conflicted about trying this dlc.
No one is talking about it because Bethesda did zero marketing (outside of just announcing it). I didn't even know this DLC existed until today and I keep myself fairly up to date on games I like (and I loved Prey).
What's hilarious is that this review video showed me that the mule's inventory carried over between characters... I just never used it. I just stashed supplies everywhere like some kind of overachieving crackhead squirrel.
If only that was in the base game When doing no neuromod play throughs, running back between Morgan's office to grab shit from the safe was excruciating
It honestly feels more like a new game than it does just DLC. It keeps the core mechanic but adds so much and changes what is kept in. It's such an amazing dlc.
My partner and I have clocked up nearly 24 hours on this DLC, and have 3 objectives left to complete (out of about 20-25). From our point of view, it's definitely been worth the £13 we payed for it.
We've just passed the 24 hour mark with 1 objective left to go. Plus there are a couple of different decisions you can make, and an achievement or two we didn't pick up the first time round, so we're planning to re-play it at least once. Honestly it's been great value for money, especially if you're the sort of player who likes to uncover every little detail.
I played last night and have to absolutely agree with you. I don't think I've ever been this impressed by a video game. This really should be a bigger deal.
Prey is the greatest game I have played in a very long time. These guys could pull off the next half life easy if not better. Atmosphere was spot on and now that the new game plus is also introduced makes it even better. When games like this come out it restores my faith in gaming for a good couple of years
No one is talking about it because right now in the gaming world hate is the only thing selling like crazy. I can't find analysis videos on these upcoming titles anymore, just "this games biggest problem" or "is this game dead? Heres why". My excitement for games is being compartmentalized and I got nowhere to turn to feel excited.
Matthew Reed You are so right. I'm not going to name names but based on you comment I know who you are talking about. There are 4-5 negative youtubers who get hundreds of thousand views every video complaining about almost every publisher and new games. Negativity and cynism sell views.
Earlier this year, I had to do a double take on my YT recommended because it was legit FILLED with click baity gloom and doom game "reviews," and it made me wanna quit playing video games. I'm soooooo glad I found Yong and Skillup (and the Gaymen laying over yonder) because this group of gamers was the refresher I needed to get excited about games again (ACG has been a constant for me thank God). Im hoping I get a rotation of game news so I can get a lot of different perspectives for full information.
David Stadler Skillup and laymen gaming do the same thing too. Idk, personally I feel that this group of reviewers manage to highlight the pros and cons with an enthusiasm for games that's felt missing in the other channels I was watching. They criticize and highlight the negatives because they really do care and not so much just for the views. Just my opinion
Quit being a baby and grow up.The fact remains that AAA gaming is in the shitters. For every god of war,we get two crappy games from EA or Activision.People who care about their hobby ,can't just shut up and nod along to bullshit
I'm sold. Prey was one of my favorite games last year, but the E3 presentation made it sound like this was going to be just a bunch of challenge rooms, which really aren't usually my thing. But this sounds incredible. Thanks for bringing attention to this criminally underlooked game!
Ben McLemore same here, they 100% misrepresented this, which is rare, it sounds like a new game, not dlc. They shouldn't have called it DLC, because it's not what DLC traditionally is.
palarious you clearly don't have the Braincells to play this game, I suggest you stick to your loot boxes and simple gameplay that your two Braincells Can handle.
I've played the entire DLC. I loved the actual game. This takes the Prey mantle and bastardizes it. Since we're apparently stooping to ad hominems, try using a couple of your brain cells to reacquaint yourself with grammatical concepts like capitalization.
@@trblemayker5157 Yeah but pretty much exclusivly because they didnt market it in any way. Hell even the base game was undermarketed and they made the stupid decision to call it Prey instead of something like Neuroshock, just because they wanted to use an already existing IP. Because of that dumb decision lots of uninformed press and consumers just flocked it for being "too boring" and "clunky", because they thought Prey was supposed to be a horror first person shooter, instead of understand it on the merits of it being a immersive sim. All these stupid decisions are because of Bethesda Softworks, the publishing company that owns Arkane Studios. Now that Microsoft bought Zenimax Online, who own Bethesda Softworks, Microsoft will make sure to not be stupid enough to undermarket Arkanes new game.
@@_--_--_ Well, they better release them on PC too and not just the box. I figured they would claim the rights to have some nice games for the Xbox lineup, but this isn't happening just yet. I am a PlayStation, Nintendo and PC guy, Xbox never interested me because it never had any games to play. As in exclusives. But one exclusive won't make me buy the console, however. This DLC was one of the best things that happened to both sim-like and rouge-like genres. And PREY itself was fantastic. They sticked the name because they didn't know what to do with the IP anymore. They bought the license to it, but never got around on making the game. So this was PREY, and to be honest, this was the better PREY we got before that. FAR better. Nothing beats space horror simulation with Synthwave music.
@@IgnemAeternum Ngl I'd read this comment but I can't because every time I tap the "read more", it takes me to the other guy's channel because of how long his name is.
Prey is just generally completly underrated. It is an absolutely amazing game and probably the best immersive sim to date. The ending might be a topic for debate - I personally found it really good but I can also see how some people are disstatisfied with all the questions it leaves you with. It seems to be a trend with this genre that it's games just can't find mainstream appeal (aside from Bioshock) which is just a shame because there is no other kind of genre that respects the players intelligence and perceptiveness like immersive sims. The multitude of different solutions and the replay value are just insane and it is truly disheartening that often times they are either not or just barely financially succesful.
Was just going to say the same. Prey is soo underrated, with so much to offer. I know i followed that game since first announcement, and when was able to get it, i didn't feel disappointed in any bit. Hell it feels like you are playing Deus Ex in Dead space. And those two are amazing games.
GunSlingerX1000 You think this Prey is underrated? This is technically a reboot. Wait till you see the one made in 2006. God Damn, to think the development cycle lasted almost a decade with such a unique atmosphere and premise only to be smoldered in obscurity is nowhere near the current status of this Prey.
I honestly LOVED the ending to the game. Partly because I actually saw it coming. I picked up some data in a VERY cleverly locked room that made me start asking questions and by the end I was thinking "....I think I know what's going on here. If so, that's awesome". And then the post-credits scene happened and I was floored that I was right. It was goddamn clever and I loved it.
@@johnclark926 prey 2006 was GOOD. Not amazing. It still has some of my favorite backdrops and level design (when it's not being a corridor shooter) but god does it drag in some points, especially the pilot sections.
No BS Prey was a game of a year contender for me. It has been criminally overlooked and if you haven't played it you definately should. One of the best looking glass style games I have ever played and I have played them all.
Mi Ke I agree, I think naming it Prey was a massive mistake. I literally didn't know what this game was until I played the demo then I realized oh, this is literally just Systemshock 3.
Jon M the thing that got me was this is nothing like pray 1 or the pray 2 demo so im not sure why they decided to call it that, unless i missed some lore, they could have made a new ip with this game instead. Bethesda could possibly have done a proper pray 2 instead of making starfield imo.
Metro 2033 was the best looking I've seen. and Dead Space and Alien Isolation. We Def need more like this though and with DLC like this to give the atmosphere more longevity.
As it is, I feel like Prey makes you make choices that make the game impossible to be a completionist with. You have to either choose to be one thing or the other.. but choosing to be one thing means you can get places, while choosing the other thing means you can fight better, and choosing something else means you have powers. It feels like the game was designed with enough enemies and security codes, and things that need to be moved, and things that make you need better weaponry, and things that require that you have powers, that you can't really have your cake and eat it. You have to pick which is more important to your play through. I am getting close to the end of Prey (I think) and the idea of having to get through even more complex areas with even more skills in dlc is kind of daunting at the moment. I RARELY replay story based games. But I feel like I missed out on a lot of things at the beginning of the game because I didn't really get the game at first. And now I have to replay it to "do it right" and get the things and complete missions that I missed out on.
It can be, but if you explore thoroughly and unlock many fabrication plans (like installed neuromods, fabrication plans are permanent and carry over between runs) you can choose your difficulty through the starting gear. For example, my 5 survivor run was quite smooth sailing because I started out with like 5 time loop items that lowers corruption, and passed them on via the mule operator. So when I reached the final character the corruption level was still at 1 or 2 out of 5.
I have to say something to add to this praise I'm reading in the comments. It is completely well founded and appropriate. You got me hooked with "The Masterpiece You (probably) Wont Play." Nier: Automata is really a masterpiece and I loved it. Didn't even consider Warframe till you brought it up. Its really awesome. FFXV Royal Edition. Spot on with "everything just clicks" type of vibe the game brings. So essentially...I'm getting this because you said to. End of story this is one of the best gaming review channels on RUclips.
Hunt: Showdown has some great recent updates also. Unfortunately the modern gaming audience gets more time out of talking about things they hate/controversies than they do talking about what they enjoy.
Skill Up thank Yongyea, Fresh prince, downward thrust, and a bunch of other YTers. Shit on games with sometimes valid points but completely overlook great titles that could be helped by being given attention for the good they do.
Rick Tejeda i agree but what choice do we have when publishers want to say and get away with a bunch of bullshit excuses and skumy business decisions like lootbox-based progression systems?
miguel cobarrubias They could not just cherry pick controversial games to get views. I’m all for informing gamers of bad games and devs but they need to balance that content with videos like this, gameplay, etc. Give me some positive with the negative. When they just shit on games in every video, games that are being shit on by everyone else already, it’s obvious they are just doing it for monetization. It’s easy to complain in videos on RUclips and viewers eat up controversy and love to get outraged.
Im playing Prey at the moment. Got it for £3.50. I've put nearly 40 hours into it so far. It's brilliantly crafted, and is a proper gamers game. Going to get this dlc after as it looks even better!
If you playing on pc, don't forget there are mods! if you want the core experience, but tweaked to be a little more balanced, making some things more viable, and overpowered things slightly less overpowered etc. look "CORE BALANCE" mod. Theres also a mod that makes it more RPG-ish, called "SHOCK". The first mod only makes it slightly harder, while the second is more a "hardcore" type thing making it quite difficult, but rewarding.
To be profitable, you need to provide a servicable product that the market has not seen yet. Most cash grabs latch on to what's popular, hopping from one to the other. No innovation. They have no creative drive. Instead of commenting just to comment, you should think through your ideas a little more, fam.
Why do idiots think prey is a knock off shitty dead space? It literally is Nothing like it... Except thebeingin space part, which still means nothing.. oh, and I guess the amnesia part.... Which is also in like nearly every other game at some point ha... , stupid people..
Prey(2017) is a truly subjectively great experience I ever had in recent memory, I think why this game is not mentioned is possibly because of bad marketing, other titles just made this became hidden and lost (looking at you fortnite), or the anti Bethesda people who will review bomb and shit talk on anything Bethesda related at all
I hated Mooncrash but kept playing. Many of rage quits. But something magical happened. I figured out how the game works and fell deeply in love. Such an amazing and challanging game. It is addicting and unique.
Yo me too! I loved the base game immediately but this one took some time, and almost quit. Then I discovered how OP the volunteer was and how useful the mule operator, and it opened the flood gates! Fifty-five hours later….😂
I'm so happy you made this vid! I had NO idea Prey had DLC released! I'm now sitting here waiting for it to finish downloading! Thank you so much for making this vid
I do love how this DLC feels a lot more like an Dungeon Crawler experience, with different colored weapon that showcases what damage does it do or what effects it has. It’s pretty damn good
PREY is my second-favorite game of all time. So then, you can imagine my excitement when I heard there was a DLC coming out. And this DLC is exactly what it claims to be on the metaphorical box. I should have read the description more carefully. I am not a roguelike person. I enjoyed PREY for its superb narrative and immersive, structured experience. Mooncrash comes about as close to those qualities as you can get with a roguelike... but that's still about an Astronomical Unit away. So if you're wondering why nobody's talking about this, it's because it's so different to the core product, and plays to utterly different tastes. You seem to like both the core game and this DLC, but I only like the core game. I wonder how many people fall into the same overlap that you seem to. I'm not saying don't enjoy it, just trying to answer the question posed in the preview image.
@@LS11557 Based on your favourites I would assume that you have played the original Deus Ex, and it's two modern follow-ups, the original Thief, and most importantly, System Shock 1 and 2. If you have skipped any of these, go play them. Alien: Isolation's game feel resembles an Immersive sim, and is mostly about stealth, and it's a really fucking good experience to play. If you liked Dishonored's high chaos stealth, the new Hitman games are amazing if you don't just go for the 'optimal' (no one will see you) route, but let the chaos play itself out if you make a mistake - this is supposedly also true for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, but I didn't play it. We Happy Few gave everyone high hopes for a Bioshock-like game, but I didn't hear that much good about it - still, you could check it out. Since your list contains 3 immersive sims and Metro, you could check out S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl.
You're right, I won't. I don't like 'beat the clock' games. Gaming is supposed to be something to help you relax after work, not to where you're pulling your hair out.
except i played System Shock and Bioshock and Dishonored so i've already played better versions of Prey :\ sorry. game was a dissappointment the moment they slapped the name Prey on it.
Just finished Prey and you're right it is one of the absolutely best games out there. For those saying it's boring obviously do not know what it takes to be a great game.
Thanks for spotlighting something that was being ignored but deserves attention. Its so easy to just go with the crowd and play the same things as everyone else. I own Prey but didnt know anything about the DLC.....ill definitely check it out now. Youre doing the art form a great service.
Deathloop looks to have a similar system of a time loop that resets and the player has to alter parts of it to accomplish their objectives. In said game they have to assassinate eight targets that are scattered around an island. One example given is that you can sabotage a scientist's experiment, causing him to go to a party with another target to drink his sorrows away. Which you can then crash and take out both of them.
Same, although I must say I really don't like the enemy designs much. Even though they're different in abilities or attacks, they look waaay generic and similar. Prey would have been better overall had these enemies been more interesting in terms of design.
SkillUp, lately my schedule is so packed and my budget so tight that I just do not have the ability to game the way I wish I could. Someday in the foreseeable future however I'm confident I'll find a balance that'll allow me to do so, but not now. So in stead of that, I decided to sponsor your channel. Your content and reviews and commentary (both here and on Laymen Gaming) have become indispensable for me as you show me exactly where I want to put my time & money, once I have it. So $5/mo for me seems like great (ROI). You've an incredible career in Gaming Journalism/Communications ahead of you and anything I can do to spur that on is effort or money well spent. I considered writing this on the next "sponsors only" post I see from you. But if there's a chance someone will read this and decide they want to sponsor you too, then even the better. Sorry for the wall of text.
*Spoiler comment* DUDE I have one more Kazma order to fulfill (get all 5 peeps to escape pods or escape). Getting to that point was so much fun. I loved the story-line. Just buy this DLC whoever you are!
Bit of an advice: Once you unlock the Engineer, use her as your first character on each run! Maxing out her Repair skills while bringing some Recycler Charges to clear out radioactive hazards is VITAL for a clean run with the rest of the characters. The game tells you that she's not a good character for direct confrontation but it's honestly my fav character. To sum up, use Joan as much as you can during the first run: go through ALL areas and fix everything you can (doors, junctions, etc), and you'll have a well-balanced fighter who's clearing the path for all others.
When I played I’d either use her or the hacker first. And later on I’d use the Engineer last after I’d used all the other characters to gather everything on the map so I could have her recycle them with her as she has that neuromod that makes recycling a little more efficient and I’d try to get a few more neuromods that way. I also learned that if you buy a ton of grenades, and dismantle them all you get a lot of spare parts. After that you can shoot a control module and have it explode, then repair it which will give you a net profit of sim points if you’re feeling cheeky. I did this on level 5 to get a huge surplus of points to level up my characters and run through the map just destroying everything. Even when you’re cheesing the game it still feels satisfying - you’re reaping the rewards of your knowledge and that little progress you have between runs. You do one run to prepare for the next and you learn from what you saw in the previous one. I’m too tired to say this in a way that makes much sense, but mooncrash was a very fun experience. Feel like I should replay it soon honestly.
@@flipsolo That was interesting comment indeed. Never though that was possible. That's flaw of many games though. They hold your hand and tell exactly what you can do. Some leave things for player to discover and some hint, but there lies the problem. Many to player seemingly trivial problem solving things just aren't there and then player gets bored to try things, assuming there aren't even many clever mechanics in the game. It's like I'm mechanic and there's tons off electronically locked doors. I've never seen door magnetic locks retain their locking position in case of power loss. But in games things virtually never work like this. Usually it's the exact opposite, power up and you can unlock door etc.
I actually didn't get sucked into prey when it first came out, I think because of the uniqueness of the enemy design. But after playing it later it reminded me of being 15 and playing half-life when it first came out and being blown away. Its awesome.
Just a tip: Spend your points on Delay Loop.Time (once you've found the blueprint, of course) and you really don't have to worry about the Corruption Level all that much. I escaped with all 5 characters in one run and the Corruption Level never got to 2. ;)
THERE'S A BLUEPRINT FOR THE DELAY ITEM!?!?! AHAHAHAHAHAH **Cries and laughs at the same time** ...Not that I needed it for my final run, I got basically the perfect setup for the moonbase, and popping the Typhon towers on the before last run, which let me basically get to the end before I even hit Corruption 5. And I wasn't even planning for the run to be my last big one. I was doing a story objective before, taking my time, and was just like "oh......I think I have time to get everyone out. Huh."
I was watching some gameplay videos of it and thought "that looks easy as hell, don't think I need to pay $40 for it". Once again a SkillUp review switches my brain into thinking there's alot more to it then meets the eye.........still wish there were more Boat Documentaries though.
The first run in Mooncrash is intentionally easy to get you money for successive run. The environmental hazard is turned off, the enemies stay at level 1, there are less enemies, there are no mini bosses, the time limit mechanic is turned off, 3/4 of the playing areas cant be accessed...
Finished it, loved it, had a blast even after getting distracted by other games and coming back to Mooncrash to fall in love again. I love how the game was this ginormous, constantly evolving puzzle that kept shifting slightly after every run. Where sometimes you'd be all "I know where that is, I got this" and you get there and go "Oh. I didn't realize the place is on fire. WELP", or when you realize that certain items always spawn in the same place, allowing you so rush them for some guaranteed progress, etc. I also LOVE how every time you've JUST gotten used to the difficulty, the game cranks it up a notch and goes "Oh yeah, now some places in the base might not have oxygen. Also, Nightmares will spawn once in a while now, have fun with that!" I do have to say, though, I feel like I got supremely lucky with my final escape. I happened to complete The Director's story objective last and was like "What? That's it? That's the whole story objecti-....Ohhhh, this would have been REALLY useful to know a few hours ago!", then took a look at the sim, realized that the base was actually pretty low on hazards and that my corruption meter was still low, and decided to just bum rush the final escape, and aside from one single close call, I managed to pull it off perfectly basically on the fly with the knowledge I'd amassed. I do feel like you overstate the danger of the central crater by the end, though. With the propulsion jet (mandatory purchase for all characters after the first!), and the chipset that makes you hover faster with it, I was able to zip through the crater in minutes, and then bypass the typhon doors with a neat little trick. It was pretty dangerous during my last 2 characters, but that fun little trick I learned from the Director's story mission allowed me to deal with it with relative ease. There are a LOT of ways to "gotta go fast" the escapes relatively safely. Really though, I just want to see more games like this. Immersive sims in general, yes, but also immersive sims that feel like you're picking apart this giant puzzle, and where if you fail, the puzzle adjusts, throwing you for a loop on your next attempt. It's damn good, and I'm happy I picked this DLC up on day 1.
Awwww maaaaaaan, I'm nearing the end of my first playthrough of Prey and it's one of the best games i've ever played. It's just brilliantly designed. I can't wait to play Mooncrash.
He calls it an evolution of the immersive sim genre but really it's just a roguelike with some immersive elements. A shame because I love immersive sims but have never played a roguelike I enjoyed.
Nah, the station is always the same. The situation changes on the station as the station goes bad. It makes quite a bit of sense. It's not random tilesets of generated rooms, its random loot, enemies, and hazards. It even gives the sim inside a sim plot point to dissolve the 4th wall that goes up when your characters repeatedly die. It's an immersive sim with roguelike elements. The soul of the DLC is very much Prey.
Damn, I really need to go back and play Prey. You're quickly one of my new favorite RUclipsrs just because you bring up all these games people might not of closely looked at. Cheers mate, keep doing what you're doing!
Damn, son! I'm a massive fan of Prey and Arkane in general (the Dishonored franchise might just be my favourite of all time) but I've yet to get this - purely cos I'm in the midst of a Horizon Zero Dawn play through - but by god, this is so on my PLAY RIGHT NOW list. Wanna get it now within month one so it at least reflects positively for sales figures and therefore more Prey and - hopefully - more Dishonored. You've just gone and sealed the deal!
I've got to say, the 'instability' thing sounds like a total deal breaker to me. What's the point of even having a progressions system if it doesn't go anywhere? Like... Can I start a new game to reset the corruption level or dose it just stay that way. Can I turn it off? This is really disappointing, I just finished the main game and I was looking forward to this. Also, why aren't the characters playing simultaneously? To be fair, that isn't a deal breaker like the instability thing it's just a little odd to me. I have played, and enjoyed all the games you've mentioned, always on easy though. Because that's my jam.
It's important to note that you can find semi-rare items that delay corruption. So if you're exploring and fighting quickly and efficiently you can effectively delay the station getting worse. That said it's always going to decline. Resetting the sim will reset the corruption, but it'll also scramble the rubiks cube that is the station's current status. The corruption system actually really helps make you feel a bit of desperation. Just like each of the characters you play, you really wanna GTFO ASAP. Just like the rest of the game it's still all puzzles from exploration to combat. Corruption shakes those puzzles up. Could you one-hit corrupted bots with your stun-gun? Now it takes two shots, expending more time and ammo. The escape pod bay is on fire this time, you'll need jump jets, gloo, or enough health to tank your way through and escape the character. The power shut down, you'll need components to fix it. What this expansion does is make roleplaying the isolated and overwhelmed space station citizen really easy. It's like playing the game with fresh eyes all over again and it's satisfying to learn and master the layout of this tight little station. I hope you came around and got it because otherwise you're missin' out for sure.
@@compassionatecurmudgeon7025 At a certain point you can just buy the corruption delay items which completely undermines the mechanics and makes the entire DLC a walk in a park.
@@ToveriJuri However, they *are* extremely expensive. Even playing at what was near perfect efficiency I could only afford one, maybe two Delay.Time's without leaving following survivors in the lurch.
@@compassionatecurmudgeon7025 You know, I must have picked this up in a humble bundle or something at some point, because I wouldn't have payed the $30 they are asking for it. As I'm still pretty confident that I'll hate it, if everything said in this video is true. I'm have even less free time on my hands these days and am even less tolerant of difficulty in games now. Would I have been able to put up with it when I was a kid? I don't know.... maybe? I've never had a high tolerance for BS in games.
Now, I haven't played Mooncrash since I beat it (when it was brand new), but... you said there's about ten different escape routes. I only actually remember there being five. Am I remembering something wrong? Spoilers ahead: Mass driver cargo container, piloted escape shuttle, escape pod, mimic portal and uploading your consciousness. Right?
I absolutely loved Prey. It was my favorite game of 2017 and I've 100%-ed it twice, but I have close to zero interest in this DLC. The roguelite mode just does not appeal to me. Prey just isn't the type of game I want to do "runs" in, especially if there is a timer. More power to everyone that loves it, but I'm pretty sure this isn't for me, which is sad because before I knew it was roguelite I was more hyped for this DLC than for any actual game releasing in 2018.
Dude. Play the DLC its absolutely worth it. Ive 100% prey multiple times and replayed it multiple times being both good and evil. The DLC is really great, hands down some of the best DLC ive ever played.
GiggleBeard nightfish is right. Mooncrash is garbage because time limits in prey are a big no no. Hands down the worst dlc I've ever played. Any fun is sucked away by the game itself. Layer 5 specifically ruins the game on top of layer 3.
The release date was bad... releasing a new dlc when people are watching the conference show that is talking about the next games is wrong. The journalists and youtubers who would be playing it, who would be promoting it are at the show... and they are too hyped about Cyberpunk and Fallout 76, or bitching about Command and Conquer mobile or Playstation is locking cross play on Fortnite. It was a bad release was just bad timing.
Actually no, the timing was great. Shadow dropping it during that conference helped hype it up. People were excited to play it right after, I know I was.
@@ULTRAOutdoorsman I mean, yeah we already established that the game was a commercial failure. It's a shame, because its a terrific game that deserved far more success than it got
What a great video dude! I’ve never played prey but always wanted to and up until now, I totally forgot about it..I love si-fi so hopefully I’ll like this!
great game, one of the few games id advise to really read all the notes and lore as you go through the game, it makes it so much better and intriguing.
...aaaaand I just finished Prey. Gonna dig into the DLC now. I really, really hope we get a sequel that irons out some of the tiny problems the original game has. One of my favorite gaming experiences of the past 10 years for sure. Bless you, Arcane.
That ended up being a failure despite massive unconventional promotion being on Store home page for half a year for no reason, since barely anyone is playing it.
Thanks for the video. Ive Just finished Prey and that was a damn good surprise for me. I feel like compelled to extend the experience with mooncrash and your video was just what I needed to make my decision.
That is why we love your videos skillup! You cover games that are underrated good! My only gripes is that you haven't given Divinity Original Sin 2 a chance. Based on how I see your taste in games, you'll obsessively love it.
soulgazer014 Yeah, he mentioned that in his Tower of Time review. But he said he haven't got hooked in the game because of it's text-heavy way of narrative (paraphrasing) which is fully voice-acted btw. I just think that when he actually give it some more chance, he'll love it especially the combat.
Bought this game because of you and love it. Feels like every game critic on youtube loves to shit on the industry and never makes a postive video. Thanks and subscribed.
I feel the same way. I think if they hate a company.. man they trash the hell out of it. Or never talk about a game which the company made. This is a good game. They just fail to realize the same
Literally the only reason I haven't bought prey yet is because it uses SecuROM 2: Electric Boogaloo and I don't buy games with denuvo unless it gets patched out like with Doom 2016. It's a shame too cause I heard it has VR support now which I'm all for and the game would have flown into my steam library by now, but I just can't ethically do it.
I'm actually planning on upgrading from a i7-4770 to an i7-7700k soon. Though to be fair, the reason that happens with AC origins is because it has not one, not two, not three, but FOUR layers of DRM. First being steam, second being uplay, third being denuvo, and fourth being some sort of actual temporary virtual machine layer I hear. Also it's probably because of Ubisoft's Signature Optimization Quality™ Also, I don't like to pirate. Especially since the reason I have the luxury of a boycott is because I have such a huge backlog of games my deficit is just as much time as it is money. Denuvo pisses me off since it gave me heaps of shit back when I was in college with limited internet access and I was trying to play MGSV while waiting in between courses, so I don't buy games with denuvo anymore. Especially since if you uninstall a game with denuvo it still leaves shit on your hard drive, making it essentially bloatware.
The way I look at it is like, "Okay the point of games is to play them right? Well naturally you'd want to treat the platform you do it on well because that ensures you'll be able to play them better later." Also you should care about bloatware because it actively affects how fast your computer starts up and loads content as well as how many games you are able to put on your hard drive over time. There's also the reasons listed on whyisdenuvobad.github.io Now if you wanna buy a denuvo game don't let me stop you, but I do have legitimate reasons I will not pay a fucking penny on a game that uses it anymore no matter how good it is. Besides, missing out on whatever game I choose to boycott due to denuvo gives me time to get through my backlog.
Another neat part of Mooncrash is that the same type of loot respawns in the same location every time. This way you really get to know you way around the base, and you know where to go to find the things you need. Although Prey revisits areas, you mostly just run through them, and for that reason you don't feel at home or engaged in the same way that Mooncrash manages to pull it off.
Maybe he didn't want to call it a 'review' because it doesn't cover all the areas that a review typically covers. That said, it is a very informational video and probably was/is more informative than most other reviews on this DLC. Personally, I really liked the format he used on this one
I went through the original game several times, each time with different builds, and thoroughly enjoyed all of it. I played and finished the DLC, and was only having fun on my first three or so runs, then it became a chore, and random elements were just not good enough to keep things fresh IMO. And since you have to finish the run with every character at least twice, that means that 7 runs out of 10 I was NOT having fun, but was just going through paces to finish the damn thing. The concept may be neat, but it overstays its welcome way too much.
Yeah, I think people think WAY too highly of procedural generation as enough of a mechanic to provide variation. In reality you basically get a lot of the same stuff happening, with only minor details changing. I wouldn't call locking or unlocking a door a good enough variation for truly longterm replayability. The reason why in games like Binding of Isaac Afterbirth it works, has to do with a lot of the variation and change being with the character you play, the items you get and the way it influences gameplay directly. Prey has too little of that. By the time you've played each character in Mooncrash, the freshness of variety is pretty much gone. And not every character is equally fun to play, whereas Binding of Isaac allows you to effectively CHANGE your run, mid-run by picking up and using items. I would like to see games use that game design concept more.
Nah, Mooncrash replayability is way better, in original game you will end up always as a jack of all trades, but here you are limited by time and class system. Plus, you still can and should explore Moonbase, but you will have to do right calls on right characters to do so.
Personally my only major issue with the DLC is that they introduced a lot of cool ideas that didn't show up or get incorporated into the main game at all like repairing broken doorways, having turrets be repair by operator among other things. Everything else, i feel is minor in comparison considering how this DLC was probably a small prototype of things to come.
@@trashman8080 They promised a lot of randomisation, and it would be fine if there indeed was. The problem I have with it is that the things that are random are mostly inconsequential and don't provide as much difference as the developers would like you to believe.
Well, I'm playing through Prey right now for the first time. I love it, what absolute gem. I have Mooncrash as well, so I'm excited to check it out. Videos like yours are the reason I even played Prey to begin with.
You sir is simply the best reviewer around! Soon as I saw this I bought prey with this dlc. Been here since the division days, then warframe. Played and adored Nier because of you and fell out of love with Destiny. When you endorse a game with such enthusiasm I see that as very high praise indeed. Keep up the superb work my man
This DLC was fun, but I smashed through it in about 2 hours. I escaped with all 5 before finishing the story missions, then when I finished that last story mission. It locked me out =/
Coming back to this legendary video because arkane austin just got shutdown. Yea redfall was a mess, but Prey + mooncrash is one of the best gaming experiences EVER. Sad day.
You said in the beginning that critics are not reviewing this DLC. That is the power of RUclips. Anyone can make a video, sharing their opinion on anything and upload it for the public to see. And that is where the power of RUclips game reviewers are better than website reviewers.
I have laboriously explored the entire map now for the last two weeks and I am STILL finding new amazing details everywhere I look. Mooncrash is so deep and so engaging it literally is the perfect Rogue like game and one of my favorite games of all time.

I think the demo would give you the measure of it. If the setting and initial systems didn't appeal, later hours probably won't change your mind.
That's why I'm conflicted about trying this dlc.
it is a great dlc and was fun to explore as a cup again
No one is talking about it because Bethesda did zero marketing (outside of just announcing it). I didn't even know this DLC existed until today and I keep myself fairly up to date on games I like (and I loved Prey).
Jakc LLAWSON Hopefully people download it em masses on gamepass after the deal Xbox is offering people to upgrade to ultimate
Thanks for the info guys and girls. Buying DLC tonight!
Right lol. I didn’t even know there was any dlc whatsoever
I wanna give you a like, but the count is now so devilishly beautiful, that I just can't 🤣
I bought it tonight through gamepass literally knew nothing about it lol really needed more Prey though and this looks great
What's hilarious is that this review video showed me that the mule's inventory carried over between characters... I just never used it. I just stashed supplies everywhere like some kind of overachieving crackhead squirrel.
If only that was in the base game
When doing no neuromod play throughs, running back between Morgan's office to grab shit from the safe was excruciating
If u were my pet squirrel. I’d name you “cracky”.
Goddamn squirrels!!!!
Might be the best comment Ive ever read on youtube, Thanks for the material
Lol nice description
It honestly feels more like a new game than it does just DLC. It keeps the core mechanic but adds so much and changes what is kept in. It's such an amazing dlc.
My partner and I have clocked up nearly 24 hours on this DLC, and have 3 objectives left to complete (out of about 20-25). From our point of view, it's definitely been worth the £13 we payed for it.
Did you even listen? It's a constantly evolving rogue-like with loads of features, easily 50 hours if you have any attention span.
The great funguy loved the DLC, but IMO Prey could use more story-based expansions.
This really should be a bigger deal.
why has RUclips Recommendations forsaken me why did i get this video 2 years after the dlc of one of my most favorite games comes out
I'm playing it now finally. I'm in love with this.
Prey is the greatest game I have played in a very long time. These guys could pull off the next half life easy if not better. Atmosphere was spot on and now that the new game plus is also introduced makes it even better. When games like this come out it restores my faith in gaming for a good couple of years
i dont understand what great about it. i hated prey to the guts.
Johan Burger I thought it was killed cuz it was fucking boring and felt like trash to play
It did give off slight BioShock vibes here and there. Having said that, this game stands on its own merits and is a classic in my book.
@@AnnaCurser you only hated it cause you you weren't able to figure it out and died too much, never finishing the game
Please don't kill my childhood by allowing Bethesda to get a hold of half life....
Oscar Nava Yong yea? 95% of the videos he makes are about the negatives going on in the gaming world. Just contradicts what you first said lol.
Nah, it's crap. If you love Prey, this will likely be a huge disappointment, especially at $20.
palarious you clearly don't have the Braincells to play this game, I suggest you stick to your loot boxes and simple gameplay that your two Braincells Can handle.
I've played the entire DLC. I loved the actual game. This takes the Prey mantle and bastardizes it.
Since we're apparently stooping to ad hominems, try using a couple of your brain cells to reacquaint yourself with grammatical concepts like capitalization.
Dude, like half of your paragraph is garbled nonsense. Get a hold of yourself, buddy.
Today I bought the deluxe edition on steam, was on sale. $7,50 USD.
good buy
@MatchaLatte It's like getting a big brick of gold for the same price, it's a fucking steal man!
God damn you basically owe them money
Prey is, by far, one of the most underrated games of ALL TIME. It was killed by stupid fanboy's nostalgia of the previous series.
And fact that it was bethesda Killed Prey 2 at first place
They didn't even want to call it Prey, Bethesda forced them to
There was a game before this one?
@@g-saviour6581 yes, long story

Looks like Arkane is going to build on the iterative "looping" mechanic present in Mooncrash with their upcoming game "Deathloop". Can't wait!
Ah that game is Arkane's? No wonder the trailer appealed to me. Years of googling "immersive sim roguelike" and finally we here.
That no one will buy. Mooncrash sold 1/10th the copies of base Prey.
"I SWEAR TO GOD BRO"...that's the only thing missing from your intro.
God Damn, to think the development cycle lasted almost a decade with such a unique atmosphere and premise only to be smoldered in obscurity is nowhere near the current status of this Prey.
lmao prey 2006 is horse shit compared to 2017
I honestly LOVED the ending to the game.
We Def need more like this though and with DLC like this to give the atmosphere more longevity.
might i just add that HZD and its dlc were both amazing
Although I LOVED prey...this sounds intimidating as f*ck
It is when you start. And as you continue. And as you're finishing. Yeah shit is intimidating hahaha
@@rotisserieprotocol3582 sounds absolutely terrible. I'll stick to the base game.
@@brianegendorf2023 I felt this was true up until they introduced New game+, in which the psychoscope and all installed neuromods carry over.
I'm playing it at the moment and it is really beyond good. Like you I don't understand why people is not talking about it
I have to say something to add to this praise I'm reading in the comments.
Cheers mate. Hope you enjoy it as much as the others.
Hunt: Showdown has some great recent updates also.
Unfortunately the modern gaming audience gets more time out of talking about things they hate/controversies than they do talking about what they enjoy.
I defintely experience this in my comments section. If you aren't following this trend, you are a paid sell out :/
Skill Up thank Yongyea, Fresh prince, downward thrust, and a bunch of other YTers. Shit on games with sometimes valid points but completely overlook great titles that could be helped by being given attention for the good they do.
Agreed.
"YOU'RE BORING!!!" hahaha that killed me.
Im playing Prey at the moment. Got it for £3.50. I've put nearly 40 hours into it so far. It's brilliantly crafted, and is a proper gamers game. Going to get this dlc after as it looks even better!
same here, have it for 3 days, omg im addicted.

Tyler Durden no I still will.
To be profitable, you need to provide a servicable product that the market has not seen yet. Most cash grabs latch on to what's popular, hopping from one to the other. No innovation. They have no creative drive. Instead of commenting just to comment, you should think through your ideas a little more, fam.

Prey is definitely top 5 for me too
@@LS11557 Based on your favourites I would assume that you have played the original Deus Ex, and it's two modern follow-ups, the original Thief, and most importantly, System Shock 1 and 2.

Same, once I got all the way through I immediately started a second play-through despite it being 6:00am and having played it all night lol
PHeMoX yeah my only problem with the game are the enemies. Near the end they pretty much just become bullet sponges
The Pope Idk man my silenced pistol took out pretty much any enemy in about 5 seconds on the second hardest difficulty
Its a simulation
One of the kindest comments I've ever received. Thank you so much mate. Really means a lot.
Exactly right.
"You can't get away with any lazy shortcuts." Popcorn gun, anyone?
*Spoiler comment*
DUDE I have one more Kazma order to fulfill (get all 5 peeps to escape pods or escape). Getting to that point was so much fun. I loved the story-line. Just buy this DLC whoever you are!
1:48 a disappointing story conclusion?
seriously, that ending was AWESOME, and one of the best executed of its kind, ever.
Whoa, I didn't think of using recycler charges to clear the radioactive stuff!
Usually it's the exact opposite, power up and you can unlock door etc.
here after the Deathloop review
Him wanting future games to adopt this unique design aged so so well
Albeit its from arkane themselves lmao, good on them tho. Revolutionizing immersive sims
I actually didn't get sucked into prey when it first came out, I think because of the uniqueness of the enemy design. But after playing it later it reminded me of being 15 and playing half-life when it first came out and being blown away. Its awesome.
I bought this dlc because of this video and having just finished it I've got to say it's bloody brilliant. Thanks.
Great video. Happy you're spreading the word. Prey and Arkane deserve so much more love than they're getting.
AHAHAHAHAHAH **Cries and laughs at the same time**
...Not that I needed it for my final run, I got basically the perfect setup for the moonbase, and popping the Typhon towers on the before last run, which let me basically get to the end before I even hit Corruption 5. And I wasn't even planning for the run to be my last big one. I was doing a story objective before, taking my time, and was just like "oh......I think I have time to get everyone out. Huh."
buying in prep patched out
I was watching some gameplay videos of it and thought "that looks easy as hell, don't think I need to pay $40 for it". Once again a SkillUp review switches my brain into thinking there's alot more to it then meets the eye.........still wish there were more Boat Documentaries though.
The first run in Mooncrash is intentionally easy to get you money for successive run. The environmental hazard is turned off, the enemies stay at level 1, there are less enemies, there are no mini bosses, the time limit mechanic is turned off, 3/4 of the playing areas cant be accessed...
also it's 20 dollars, not 40
when you unlocked all characters the difficulty can be harsh as hell.. :D
Also, Nightmares will spawn once in a while now, have fun with that!"
I do have to say, though, I feel like I got supremely lucky with my final escape.
Who came here after the Deathloop review?
This and dying light the following have been my favorite dlcs of all time
😀
Wow you legit predicted deathloop
Came here after the Redfall review. Man... we had no idea how good we had it.
Exactly
Haha he predicted deathloop😂😂
I've got to say, the 'instability' thing sounds like a total deal breaker to me. What's the point of even having a progressions system if it doesn't go anywhere? Like... Can I start a new game to reset the corruption level or dose it just stay that way. Can I turn it off? This is really disappointing, I just finished the main game and I was looking forward to this.
Also, why aren't the characters playing simultaneously? To be fair, that isn't a deal breaker like the instability thing it's just a little odd to me.
I have played, and enjoyed all the games you've mentioned, always on easy though. Because that's my jam.
Disthron lit resets on a new run
@@compassionatecurmudgeon7025
At a certain point you can just buy the corruption delay items which completely undermines the mechanics and makes the entire DLC a walk in a park.
Spoilers ahead:
Mass driver cargo container, piloted escape shuttle, escape pod, mimic portal and uploading your consciousness.
Trust me Mooncrash Has the same pros of prey but it is better imo
@@shelceygusek427 How did you get 5 idiots to like your comment? You're not even a good troll.
@@OrangeBox93 how? Because it's not trolling when it's true. 5 people are smart enough to know this. Sad you are not.
Hey Ralph, big fan. Love the way your presentations are put together. I still have Prey. Im going to check this out i think. Cheers
Yep
Actually no, the timing was great. Shadow dropping it during that conference helped hype it up. People were excited to play it right after, I know I was.
It took me like 3 seconds in until I paused it and bought it, lol.
Finally trying Mooncrash out after absolutely loving Prey, holy crap how did this DLC and the base game not get more love.
Definitely play the game it's a classic already
Its 50% off on steam, go get it!
great game, one of the few games id advise to really read all the notes and lore as you go through the game, it makes it so much better and intriguing.
If you liked System shock 2, Deus Ex, Bioshock you will love it
Anyone else coming here from the Deathloop review?
Haven’t finished Prey yet but glad to hear the DLC is gonna be great.
I think some of Arkani’s best work are the DLC’s.
I bought the DLC after watching you video, thanks!
Enjoyed the hell out of the original game :) And the ending didn't disappoint me btw :)
...aaaaand I just finished Prey. Gonna dig into the DLC now. I really, really hope we get a sequel that irons out some of the tiny problems the original game has. One of my favorite gaming experiences of the past 10 years for sure. Bless you, Arcane.
You were right about it being an inspiration for future titles, DeathLoop seems to take a lot of ideas from Mooncrash. Can't wait to play it!
Arkane inspired themselves lol
That ended up being a failure despite massive unconventional promotion being on Store home page for half a year for no reason, since barely anyone is playing it.
you made me buy Prey, which i really enjoyed, and now its dlc that looks awesome
"Disappointing story conclusion"
You may have missed the big twist...
I dunno man. I cared about the people on Talos 1, I saved everyone I could, but then boom, it's all fake, it was never real.
My reaction as well. Ending was mind blowing.
Thanks for the video. Ive Just finished Prey and that was a damn good surprise for me. I feel like compelled to extend the experience with mooncrash and your video was just what I needed to make my decision.
Thanks for the heads up...I loved Prey and am so happy to have more of it to play.
That is why we love your videos skillup! You cover games that are underrated good! My only gripes is that you haven't given Divinity Original Sin 2 a chance. Based on how I see your taste in games, you'll obsessively love it.
Robert Grenas He’s mentioned before that he’s tried Divinity 2 but doesn’t have the time for a super long isometric RPG.
soulgazer014 Yeah, he mentioned that in his Tower of Time review. But he said he haven't got hooked in the game because of it's text-heavy way of narrative (paraphrasing) which is fully voice-acted btw. I just think that when he actually give it some more chance, he'll love it especially the combat.
Robert Grenas
Well, to be honest it IS a fantastic game but it’s super-length stops most from enjoying it.
Also it's probably because of Ubisoft's Signature Optimization Quality™
Also, I don't like to pirate.
Well naturally you'd want to treat the platform you do it on well because that ensures you'll be able to play them better later."
Also you should care about bloatware because it actively affects how fast your computer starts up and loads content as well as how many games you are able to put on your hard drive over time. There's also the reasons listed on whyisdenuvobad.github.io
Now if you wanna buy a denuvo game don't let me stop you, but I do have legitimate reasons I will not pay a fucking penny on a game that uses it anymore no matter how good it is. Besides, missing out on whatever game I choose to boycott due to denuvo gives me time to get through my backlog.
Just started prey again in 2024 and you wouldn’t know this game is 7 years old, it’s incredible
Oh the friendly mimic. I always had him equipped with the top hat. He was my best friend on pathos
No "The Review" in the title? Only 16 minutes long?....It's just not the same....
Lemifan what do you mean?
It really depends on whether you like rougelites or not. I can see why people like the dlc, but i personally dont.
@@trashman8080 They promised a lot of randomisation, and it would be fine if there indeed was. The problem I have with it is that the things that are random are mostly inconsequential and don't provide as much difference as the developers would like you to believe.
Prey is by far one of my favorite games. Next to Dishonored 2, Deux Ex: Manking Divided, Dying Light and Metro Exodus on my list.
Interesting list.
Keep up the superb work my man
I second that.
This DLC was fun, but I smashed through it in about 2 hours. I escaped with all 5 before finishing the story missions, then when I finished that last story mission. It locked me out =/
It does that unfortunately :/
Wait it stops you from playing???? Wtf
Just when I thought Prey couldn't get any better. Thanks SkillUp even though I loved Prey, Mooncrash skirted my view up till now.
Thank you for praising this game and its DLC like they deserve. Prey was by far the most I’ve been immersed in a video game in years.
What makes Prey a sim? When I played it, it felt very gamey
"immersive sim". It's a genre. Deus ex, Bioshock, system shock, Dishonored, etc.
