Absolutely stunning! ❤... originally from a tribute to Dinah. Aretha's Columbia years are often overlooked, but those who know, know there are some absolute gems from that period from the Queen of Soul.
The original is by Dinah Washington. Aretha's version was recorded for her fifth album on Columbia, which was a tribute album to then, recently passed Dinah (a friend of the Franklin family). The Milt Jackson version features the vocals of Little Jimmy Scott, as Milt Jackson was not a singer.
"This Bitter Heart" is a classic. The hit was by Dinah Washington. Milt Jackson plays vibes.
All you have to do is close your eyes and get caught up and into "This Bitter Earth". My father played this on the big stereo many years ago
It’s a vibe. This is listening music. You just chill and reflect.
I'd never heard any version of this song , this reaches in and plucks strings, gotta check out the Dinah Washington original.

It really baffles me that Aretha smoked cigarettes and still had a powerful and beautiful singing voice. Maybe she didn't inhale.
This was very early in her career. By the 80s, smoking had severely damaged her voice.
