Same as i was a 16yr old droppin moves and trying to sneak into the disco.. Bit like Thank God Its Friday... 1979 what a classic year, and this track is the epitomy and cream of it...
@@SopranoSistah 👍🏽 Hi Nichell! I saw someone responding to a “comment” earlier, and he mentioned that there were a lot of great Disco songs, that people called funk songs. Not talking about “Disco Nights”, but in general, I’m completely opposite, I believe that there were a lot of great R&B and Funk songs that were lumped in as Disco because of the era, I wanted to ask if U have an opinion on that. Thanks! Peace!
@@kevbrown341 I almost always have an opinion about music 😂 so I’m happy to chime in. I agree with you. Having watched LOTS of docu footage and interviews of many retro artists, including from that era, they themselves will tell you that they often resented being labeled as a disco act, but they were a “victim,” so to speak, of the time’s prevalent disco/club scene where a lot of real/pure soul and funk music was played along with straight disco. So as usual in the music industry‘s eyes, since disco was the big moneymaker of that time, almost everything else with a great beat got washed in with the tide. Not that there was anything wrong with disco, but many musicians of other (mainly purer ‘Black’ music) genres did resent it, as did a number of their fans. Now of course during the disco era, I was in elementary school-too young to party, but music has been a part of my life from birth. So my interest in studying and presenting music in its multiple facets - without most genre limits - became a huge part of my life starting in middle school, continuing as a young journalist, and through today. So you asked the right person. 💯☑️😉
Good request Kev, man when this came out GQ disco music couldn't do any wrong.....even I liked this one. The album has two other songs which were very good. "I Do Love You" and "Standing Ovation". I think the Unsung documentary, stated the lead singer Raheem spiraled out of control with drugs.....
Oh Man GQ 😊😊 Disco Nights Was One Of The Biggest Disco R&B Songs Ever This Had Everybody On The Dance Floor This Was And Still Is An Universal Jam Bro and This Was The Edit Version gotta do the Album or Extended Version JJ💯💯
1979 ANTHEM.....GQ one of NYC finest....this a song that hit as disco was fading off the scene.....you have to understand the time period to understand just how big this song was....there was a disco backlash (mainly meaning a backlash against black music).....pop stations were refusing to play disco music anymore and all across the nation white folks were having parties burning disco records.....also rap, punk, new wave, freestlyle was coming on strong in NYC and was about burst out nationwide ushering in the 80s......at the same time there was another 1979 disco ANTHEM by the group Instant Funk called " I Got My Mind Made Up".....i hope you react to that SMASH also......great reaction
The Soul Train version is too short! This is the full (12 inch) version that most people remember: ruclips.net/video/HBRXp1ug3oo/видео.html. For the record, guitarist Rahiem LeBlanc, who bears an amazing resemblance to John Legend, is keeping the group name and sound alive today, despite the death of lead singer Keith Crier.
You need to hear a better audio of this recording or the extended dance mix version. This jam would boom at the clubs through the Dolby sound systems and folks got up to get down. Find a better audio of this tune.
You definitely have to keep in mind the era when watching the videos and listening to the audio. What they did then led to the digital quality you hear now. We had to crawl before we walked but I love that you appreciate the music.
The song maybe called "Disco Nights", but it's more like a disco/funk song. One of the best bass lines I ever heard on a record. One of my favorite records ever. JJ have you done "Rockit" by Herbie Hancock? If you haven't you should. And it has to be the video because it iconic.
One of THE best clubbing songs ever. Seems like a million years ago, and yesterday.
Great late 70s disco funk cut….was a skating rink, club, and party JAM!!!
I love the lead singers voice., this my shiiitttt!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
"Disco Nights' is such a classic! it was a vibe then, and a vibe now...thanks.
Always liked GQ only had about 3 or 4 big hits but definitely left their mark late in the diso era
Some "Decent " Disco music....Along with Heatwaves Boogie Nights.
Love his voice and the music. This song shoots pleasure hormones to my head.

And I Do Love You
He's already reacted to I Do Love You (It was a good reaction).
High school dances. 🕺💃🕺💃🕺💃🕺💃🕺💃
Makes me wanna go skating!😀
I may have Rahiem play at our wedding in October
disco gold goodness. this still gets play from house music djs. major choonage!
Ultra Classic jam. One of the great bassline intros. However, the video doesn't do this record any justice. Check the 12" version with the full intro.
Great band.
Big club song back in the day.

That bassline is filthy!
Yes! the bassline is my favorite part. Peace!
My favorite!
Hi JJ! Thanks for the reaction! Every time that I hear this jam my mind, body, and soul instantly go back to that "time period". Peace!

I love this song by GQ ...You should just pull up the album version the audio is much better.
This was a jam!
Back to my youth
I have been waiting for you to do this , but you should have did the album version or 12 inch.
Remembering the summer of '79! Muuuusiic!!!!!!
I used to play this song so much as a kid, my mother actually came to my room and asked me was this the only record I had? 😂 Good times!!!

Aw that sucks he was a cool friendly down to earth dude.
Yeah, that’s sad, the entertainment industry isn’t all fun and games. A lot of money involved! Peace!
You should do Standing Ovation by them. It's a great song too.
Great song, terrible recording of it. Sure sounded different on the disco floor.
Bigger and better speakers John, plus the equalizers and amplifiers the DJ's used back in the days......plus the libation and other indulgences......
Another classic…one of my favorites!
