Booker T. & the M.G.'s was an Awesome band recording out of Stax Record Studio! Checkout their other hits "Hip Hug-Her "Time is Tight" and "Hang Em High"
@@howiedavis2316 Because they were the Stax Records house band, they played on songs by Sam & Dave, Otis Redding, the Mavis Staples, Rufus Thomas and Isaac Hayes. They even backed up visiting artists, namely Aretha Franklin.
Love this song! Booker T. & The M.G.'s were a great American instrumental R&B/funk band in the 60's-70's. They had some great hits such as "Time Is Tight", "Hip Hug-Her", "Behave Yourself", a cover of the Rascals' "Groovin'" etc.
Let's add that they were the house band for Stax Records and the members of the band can be heard on nearly every album and record put out by the studio.
TV audiences sitting very still was pretty common in those days. I think people were intimated by the TV cameras or something like that. Or maybe the director told them to stay still. But it was kind of standard back then.
It could have been the time back then, when people didn't react in certain situations, but it could also be the music. Some people hearing a type of music for the first time might be stone faced mesmerized. Similar to Kraftwerk, playing techno music for the first time in Soest, Germany in 1970. Some people clapped to the beat, shaking their heads. Others sat there like statues.
Terrific Band.. Many hits.. Booker T on the organ.. "Hip Hug Her" - ruclips.net/video/jc1FfIswGrQ/видео.html - "Melting Pot" - French tv - ruclips.net/video/A8wvt-HuZ4c/видео.html - Time is Tight - ruclips.net/video/teMn2bvr98c/видео.html.
this is another song that has been used in lots of different things like commercials, movies, tv shows, etc. i have heard these songs my whole life. when i was a very young child i was snooping around my grandmothers house looking for something to do and i found my mothers stash of records from when she was a teenager. there among the Elvis, Beach Boys and Brenda Lee was this album, the full album not just the single. you best believe i brought them all home and listened to them endlessly on my tiny little record player.
AHHHHH one of my FAVORITE instrumentals from the '60s and MY FAVORITE Booker T. and the MG's song. I LOVE LOVE LOVE It SOOOO MUCH!! NO reactor I have seen over the last 3 years has reacted to it!! However I prefer their recorded version as it is SLOWER than this live performance, and sounds much more bluesy that way. I have NEVER heard it played this fast! They really sped it up here. LOL! I bet they were only given so much time to play it, so they had to jack up the tempo! LOL! LISTEN to their recorded version of "Green Onions" sometime I think you might like it slower too.
The Blues Brothers had a few members of Booker T and the MGs and played the song during their live shows. Dan Ackroyd would discuss the song and said that future historians would call the music, "North American Pre-Light Emitting Diode Euphoric."
Oh no you didnt This was way before its time. I zone out, its in my many music catalogs🤘❤️ notice only a handful of the audience got it😊. They’d be my crowd
When I was a DJ on a local classic rock station, we'd run every Cardinals game live. This is the song I always used to lead into the MLB broadcast...very cool tune!
