A theme tune from when theme tunes were distinctive, memorable and properly composed, not just a mush of unmemorable chords like they are today....they don't compose them like they used to. Great show.

Curiously characterless as an actor, and lacked presence (never heard of him before this show; where did he come from?) - which, I think, is why he never got very big... Therefore wouldn't cut it as a movie Bond...

@@oddities-whatnot Ah that's true. But The Professionals was his first proper acting role and he was certainly convincing in the action scenes. Much like George Lazenby. And history has taught us that - in the opinions of many - On Her Majesty's Secret Service is a classic, and Lazenby's greenness didn't detract from that. Lazenby was young, impetuous, full of himself, even irritating on set, but look at the results.
Contrast with Martin Shaw who was ever so slightly older than Collins but with a heck of a lot more acting experience. He was also full of himself to the extent of having virtually nothing to do with The Professionals after it finished, and I have read that he only gave his blessing to re-runs being shown when Collins appealed to him that Gordon Jackson was all but destitute and needed the income. However, I think that Collins would've needed some etiquette and elocution lessons at the very least before playing Bond.

I Love both The Original Avengers, and the New Avengers, I am probably odd few that actually love New Avengers Wish they made New Avengers in to a film, the Avengers film in my opinion was trying to take elements from Stories from original Avengers and mix them all together to make a story, instead of actually writing a well thought out story, they didn’t even reply back to Brian Clemens, they Should have picked up unfinished story idea that Brian Clemens and Dennis Spooner had for an Avengers Movie and turn that in to a film.

In 1978 Purdey and her haircut was a phenomena, people took pictures to the hair salon saying I want that ! Blakes 7 Obsession - Calamity Rays is out on Amazon Kindle. Incredible true story of a 13 yr old boy who took his obsession with a tv series much much to far.

The Avengers movie from 1998 was very badly butchered in the editing room, they cut something like 30 minutes right out of the middle of it because the executives at Warner Brothers thought it was too long. That's why it appears to be lacking in continuity. Of course there were some other stupid things added like a machine in the glovebox of Steed's E-Type Jaguar (should have had Steed driving a vintage Bentley or a Rolls) that made tea. In my opinion it was a mistake to cast Sean Connery as the villain, since the first thing that everyone thinks of is James Bond when the see him in a 60s themed movie.

I loved this series just as much as the original Avengers series. I also think that when they made that 1988 movie they should have based it on the vibe this series instead of the vibe of the original series. The original was too 60's to have worked in the 80's. A movie based on the new Avengers could have worked in the 80's and even now.

Many people think that The New Avengers was a pale version of the 1960s series. This is the version that I most remember (primarily due to its numerous reruns on Toronto stations during the 1970s and early 1980s) - I thought that Gareth Hunt (RIP) was a hottie, one of my first preadolescent crushes. (Andy Gibb, Barry Manilow and Randolph Mantooth were up there, too.) In retrospect, this is far better than most of the stuff airing today.

The slow motion intro. I remember this in a lot of 70’s shows as a kid

They originally used BL cars but they were too unreliable so in series 2 (ish) they started using Capri's and Escorts

Mini Mort 2 Brian once told of the time the New Avengers cast was scheduled to appear on the BL stand at the Motor Show in 1977, when they got there the stand was empty of staff so they got invited onto the neighbouring Mercedes stand instead!

Love the cool-ass theme music. A little nod to the old series at the beginning.
