I watched this as a kid with my brother in the 70's, then again with my own children in the 90's, we loved to sing along to the theme tune. Hope to do it all again when the grandchildren come along. Quality, wholesome, fun tv
I'm french. We had this show on french TV about 40 (!!) years ago. I was 5, perhaps 6 years old.The Double Deckers war a great sucess in France. Thank you for having posted it! By hearing this song I feel tranported back in time. "You've been on board..." I wish I'd be on this bus.
I used to love this. I jjust watched the opening credits and with this one, gave me the chills. especially the "seeee you next weeeeeeeeek" Im almost 55 but I remember this like it was yesterday. They don't seem make theme tunes like they did those days. Double Deckers, FollyFoot Farm, The Tomorrow People, were just a few of my favourite theme tunes!
Back in 1970, when I was 10 and the Double Deckers were shown on Friday evenings before I went to cubs, I wanted to marry Gillian Bailey. Loved that pony tail.
I used to love Saturday mornings as a kid, usually started with a cartoon such a Merine Boy or Shazam then Bannana Splits or Double Deckers then out for the afternoon wtaching Football or Rugby, simple times.
You've been on board you've been on board You've been on board with the Double Deckers Tell your friends that you've been riding On our double double double decker bus la la laaa, la la laaa...
I had forgotten all about this until I stumbled on this link. Christ, this reminds me of sunny Friday afternoons as a kid, when everything was all right with the world.
Great Programme,Iseem to remember being it on every other week, being sharred with The Banna Splits 6 years before the start of SWAP SHOP on the BBC and TISWAS on ITV [ALTHOUGH TISWASwas never fully networked by ITV and only the last series in the autumn of 1981 of TISWAS was broadcast by TYNE TEES TV who before that had [Like so many ITV Regions] had it"s own Childern"s programmes on Saturday Morning. GOD BLESS
I loved this show as a kid, and as an adult, when I asked others if they remembered the show, I was told that I just imagined this show. Thank you for vindicating me! It's too bad that sorry ass Fox has blocked the opening theme from being shown. I'm jonesing to hear it again!
Loved how the door used to open - like the game "Mousetrap". Would love to see it on remastered dvd, dvd I found on the internet was pretty good though: kids loved watching it!
These were more or less a follow-up to a series of CFF theatrical short films called "The Magnificent 6 1/2." Most of the same kids were in them, and the same people made them. Some of the "6 1/2" films were shown in the US on CBS-TV, and were sold in 16mm to schools and libraries.
Back in the day, I remember watching the show's intro, and being amused that the little stuffed tiger was billed as part of the cast. They say it fell apart after all the episodes were completed.
I was down the abc every week 2 at 9 am 2 watch the double deckers crowds round the block and then the childrens film fondaton would come onean thay we would all shout out to the projectonist run the series and he didthis was in 1970 in 1982 i was the projectonist at the abc and i finished at the abc norwich in 1992 simon i was the last man in norwich abc 2 do an all night screening of all friday 13 i think it was 7 or 8 lve u all great film lovers simon
Hi Simon, i remember the ABC club when i was a kid in King's Lynn(sorry someone had too!!),every Saturday morning, when i talk about it now and mention the double deckers people do remember however when i mention shazam! they hav'nt a clue, but yeah the ABC club at the cinema was good memories.cheers,Owen
For the record,"HERE COME THE DOUBLE DECKERS" aired on ABC-TV's Saturday morning line-up on Sept 12,1970,which also included "LANCELOT LINK" and Filmation Associates' animated "WILL THE REAL JERRY LEWIS PLEASE SIT DOWN!",all for the 1970-71 TV season.
I remember seeing this...the little girl always had her tiger toy with her. I was in love with Peter ~Firth....great programme...very innocent and it was in colour.
+Noodles37UK It still means something; just probably not what you want it to mean. You can't invade 1/4 of the planet, fuck most of that up, and then deny the fall-out.
Yeh, i remember those. 'Tho I think Shazzan was in the Banana Splits show, along with Arabian Nights. Marine Boy was a japanese cartoon.. all brilliant.. Also Adventures of Tin Tin.
Saturday night... had a few vinos... we "you-tubed" a TV show theme that B wanted... turns out that Mr KerrAvon uploaded it to youtube. oi oi Liam! *smiley face emoticon*
If I could see an episode, I might be able to tell if this is the show of which I have the most vague memory. All I remember is that it was some show that involved children around some fence. I remember I liked it.
Whenever I watched 'Spooks', I always hoped Harry would announce the week's threat to Britain's national security by saying, for example, "Great galloping gumdrops! Terrorists are about to launch an attack on London!" He never did, though. :-)
wonderful show for pure 1970s nostalgia read a 1970s childhood by derek tait which mentions amonst others aliais smith and jones.,dr who, chopper bikes, bubble gum cards.
ONLY ONE SEASON? THAT MAY BE , BUT I SEEM TO REMEBER IT BEING ON AT LEAST TWO YEARS.... AND , I REMEMBER IT BEING QUITE POPULAR AS SUNDAY AFTERNOON ( A ROUGH DAMN TIME SLOT.) FARE GOES.. i ALSO REMEMBER , THEY HAD A LUNCHBOX.
Rockin' T.C. Your be surprised how people age some no so well as others. I ve looked a few girls up which I thought were cue back in the 70s now they don't look so cute and some I would have never have recognised without the help of Wikipedia. Time does not do people any justice. Respect
Peter Firth later became famous as Harry in Spooks. I wonder when he was in The Doubledeckers if he was seeing if there was KGB activity and the dreaded Tehran Connection.
Back in the day when the Routemaster had a lovely rasping sound petrol engine under the bonnet at the front of the bus instead of a hideous drone diesel engine at the front like they do with the buses now.
Why has the 70's got the best theme tunes
I LOVED this show. Brings back happy memories for me.
I watched this as a kid with my brother in the 70's, then again with my own children in the 90's, we loved to sing along to the theme tune. Hope to do it all again when the grandchildren come along. Quality, wholesome, fun tv

The soundtrack to many an idyllic childhood summer morning.
Just loved the whole bag, man! I really wanted to live on that bus. Brings back such vivid memories.
Back in 1970, when I was 10 and the Double Deckers were shown on Friday evenings before I went to cubs, I wanted to marry Gillian Bailey. Loved that pony tail.

The good thing is we can all sing them in our heads and as and when we find clips we can have fun... Fox... sort it out, this is old.....
Thank for the memory trigger
back in to watch The Champions then back out to play war or football happy days
Back in the day, I remember watching the show's intro, and being amused that the little stuffed tiger was billed as part of the cast. They say it fell apart after all the episodes were completed.
Adorava!!! Clássico, valeu pela postagem!!!
@mrsqonk you are spot on! I could not have said it better
Brinsley forde AKA Spring became one of the founding members of ASWAD.

That sounds right. That's when I remember seeing it .
For the record,"HERE COME THE DOUBLE DECKERS" aired on ABC-TV's Saturday
morning line-up on Sept 12,1970,which also included "LANCELOT LINK" and Filmation
Associates' animated "WILL THE REAL JERRY LEWIS PLEASE SIT DOWN!",all for
the 1970-71 TV season.
Also The Reluctant Dragon & Mr. Toad Show from Rankin-Bass!😁
I never realised Melvyn Hayes co wrote the theme song and was also responsible for dialogue direction as well as starring in the show.
I can remember seeing this on tv back in 1970 or 1971 on BBC 2 i think in Colour. Could someone confirm this to me please
I remember seeing this...the little girl always had her tiger toy with her. I was in love with Peter ~Firth....great programme...very innocent and it was in colour.
+Richard Sharpe I recall seeing all episodes on ITV in 1990.
I really feel my age - Debbie Russ is 55!
+Le Chat I hated Debbie Russ because I about her age and my older Siblings used to tease me that I used to like her. But I really hated her.
fking hell just jump into my head had to look this up fking fab indeed
Back when being British meant something. I was three, then. Don't even think of a lecture...
+Noodles37UK It still means something; just probably not what you want it to mean. You can't invade 1/4 of the planet, fuck most of that up, and then deny the fall-out.

marine boy! glad I'm not the only one who remembers that! Did he have a dolphin as a sidekick? Very early anime, as I think it was Japanese
The Black child on the show grew up to become a member of the popular Reggae band, Aswad.

apprently Peter Firth went on star as MI5 boss"Harry Pearce" in the BBC tv series Spooks.
The bust of Queen Victoria at the end used to scare the Holy hell out of me.😄😂
past tense for end credits. they always did stuff like that
I want to go back...
souvenirs souvenirs !
wonderful show for pure 1970s nostalgia read a 1970s childhood by derek tait which mentions amonst others aliais smith and jones.,dr who, chopper bikes, bubble gum cards.
I was definitely not expecting 20th Century Fox to actually make this show.
Anyone know where i can watch the one where they go around in hovercrafts , class
6 People are riding a London Single Decker Bendy Bus!
Ah, fabulous memories, poor Douglas has gone now, Peter Firth And Brindley the most famous of them.
The Double Deckers was on the BBC. Central Television never existed at the time and as for Fox?
William Kane No it was on ATV
No, I'm not having that. It was on the BBC - definitely. :-)
NO IT WAS ON ITV!!!!!!
Ha ha ha! OK, we'll agree to differ.
It was first shown on BBC1 in January 1971, and later repeated several times. It was repeated by ITV in the 1980's
spring very politicly in correct these days
ha ha ha brings back memories this ... class with doughnut ha ha
Wonder where they are now ?
Check out Andy Blade/Double Deckers on RUclips. A fitting tribute.
Me too
I thought Debbie Russ (Tiger) was cute. I bet she still is.
Where are you now Debbie?
Rockin' T.C. Your be surprised how people age some no so well as others. I ve looked a few girls up which I thought were cue back in the 70s now they don't look so cute and some I would have never have recognised without the help of Wikipedia.

You're right, Debbie Russ is still cute! Check this out: ruclips.net/video/yrBGSiscOrc/видео.html
Gillian bailey was hot I used have a crush on that show when I was younger and still in her 60s now still looking ok 👍👌
The Double Deckers was really made for American TV viewers is that correct would like to know please
+Richard Sharpe
Yes, you are right.
Thank you for that
Why would that be the case? It was incredibly popular on British TV.
used to think tiger was cute!!!!All them years ago
I think you might be thinking of a Sci-Fi series called Timeslip which was shown around about the same time as the spooky Children of the Stones.
thecompany did the show and I guess they held the rights to it... sad but true ..... hence never seeing it repeated...
Sorry but Routemasters never had petrol engines
Bring um back!?
Peter Firth later became famous as Harry in Spooks. I wonder when he was in The Doubledeckers if he was seeing if there was KGB activity and the dreaded Tehran Connection.
He played Peter the Russian sailor in rom-com film Letter To Brezhnev
How come no opening titles and theme of this show on you tube..?
Look for e.g., Nigel Farage (ex-?-UKIP leader), as a six-year-old!
Yeah, he painted £350m aweek for the NHS on the side of the bus
Why is the intro impossible to find? It used to be on here....massive FAIL!
@fenderred1 - i know exactly what you mean - great days eh?
Alain Commageat ❤
The Little Rascals?!! More like a kid’s version of Monty Python!!
why is there no opening tiltles for this show
Back in the day when the Routemaster had a lovely rasping sound petrol engine under the bonnet at the front of the bus instead of a hideous drone diesel engine at the front like they do with the buses now.
Bon chance.
Spot Harry from Spooks?
I am quite cross that FOX have decided we cant have the opening credits.. I have emailed them tonight the 31st jan 2014....
Freaking Fox has it blocked due to "copyright"
