Melvyn Hayes - still love you - thanks for appearing in Benidorm - a while ago but still more recent that DD. We need more funny people in these tough times. God bless.
I was about three when this show aired, and it is just baaaaaarely on the edge of my memories, so when i saw a clip of someth ng i hadn't seen in 51 years and it all came flooding back, well, that was trippy
Same for me ! Recently I have been playing the intro titles and theme tune for my 3 years old niece and we are both enjoying the experience. Double Deckers brings back fond memories and has stood the test of time.
My Saturday childhood was In no particular order The double deckers , flashing blade, Robinson crusoe, Marine boy, Banana splits . The magic singing ringing tree and I still have Bad dreams about it
I met Melvyn Hayes once about 25 years ago. At the time he had a pub, the Brantham Bull near Ipswich and I delivered a load of coal there. After I'd finished delivering he gave me a drink at the bar and there was pictures and posters all over the walls of his career and I thought he must be fed up to the back teeth of people saying that they saw him in Summer Holiday and It Ain't Half Hot Mum etc so I thought I'd keep quiet about such things so he could have fifteen minutes off so to speak, as there was no one else there at the time, so we talked about coal and the weather and stuff. However, I didn't realise at the time that he played the Double Decker's older friend, the DD's being my favourite programme when I was seven or eight years old. Had I known I'd definately have bombarded him with questions about that. When, because of RUclips I realised he was Albert I've kicked myself ever since over missing my golden opportunity to chat with him about it. Melvyn, if you're reading this, you were a big part of my life when I was very young and you were bloody marvellous! All the very best!!
i was born in 2006 and i absolutely loved the double deckers when i was little. even as a seventeen year old i still watch it sometimes :) i would often get sad that i wasn't a child in the 70s.
He’s my foster father of 26 years I came to him with my brother when I was 3 years old in 1999, he’s not just my dad he’s my best friend and he gives the best hugs
Very interesting, speaking as an ex-pat in the US who grew up watching the "Double Deckers". If my memory serves me correctly, didn't Debbie Russ play Tiger, and Gillian Bailey play Billie?
WELL DONE Melvyn! I didn't realise he'd contributed so much to it. And well done on the lyrics, it's a BELTER of a tv theme with full band and brass! WOW!# (i wonder who wrote and arranged the tune though?)
I used to love watching
The Double Deckers.
This takes me right back
to my childhood.
This and the Banana Splits.

@@SlapstickFestival It sure is!
I've been, from memory, using bits of the rythm, bassline, and guitar bits for YEARS in jam sessions and so on.
Loved that
Gillian played Billie, not Debbie
