    A man walked on stage at the London Palladium. He just stood there looking at the audience with his hat in his hands. He never said a word. The audience were in hysterics and i laughed till i cried. What was so funny? Haven't a clue. The man was Tommy Cooper.

    I was privileged to meet Tommy many times,I worked in a shop in hampstead..he used to pop in.."just like that..not this..like that"
    How he made us laugh..
    he often gave us tickets to see him..
    This may seem a very old and out of hand joke,but I know he would have liked this..so here goes..

If your not British then you will never going to understand that Tommy Cooper is one if the best comedians ever and these days it very had to find like one like him. All comedy is these days, has nothing but rude language in it. Tommy Cooper shows that you do not need bad language to be funny. Long live the spirit of tommy Cooper. He the best ever ( End of)

    Tommy Cooper is pure comic genius. What is so admirable is the pure silliness he manages to turn into audience laughter. We will not see his like again. I doubt those raised on American 'humor' will get him and sadly that is their loss. There is so much more to comedy than the American put down that is now so very common.

    • @dntskdnttll
      @dntskdnttll 3 года назад +2

      @@emilywhitfield2780 Additionally there were old-school comics in the US who were similar, and it’s the era more than just the country that influences it. Modern “comedy” tends towards the cynical, mean, and leans on unnecessary sex references (ok if they’re funny, but they’re added in places they don’t even add anything) just to prop it up, as much as the putdowns.
      Comedy used to be silly, goofy, and very sincere, with sarcasm still being used but differently - and much more physical comedy. The modern comic considers this embarrassing as it’s too sincere for his ego - easier to punch down on someone else.
      Agreed with the original comment but Americanness is not the problem. Coldness and a loss of creativity are.

    • @emilywhitfield2780
      @emilywhitfield2780 3 года назад +2

      @@dntskdnttll I understand your point and I was inferring to what Mr Fox said about Americans not getting British humor! Your re right! It doesn't depend on the country! My favorite TV show during the 70s was The Carol Burnett Show! I loved the skits and the general silliness of that show!! Bob Hope, The Marx Brothers and Buster Keaton are great examples of American comedy! Today's comedians are vulgar and stoop to insulting others! I miss those comedy shows of the past but they are long gone I'm afraid!!

    Here i am 12 years after this video was posted and laughing so tears flow from my eyes. I found videos with his performances here on RUclips. He may have been to Sweden but this is for me the only way to find different comedians from different englisch speaking countrys that would probably never have been here and even if they did (like my absolute favorit music group Rammstein) i would not be able to watch them live.

    I have been told that Tommy Cooper would dry out his old teabags and kep a few in his wallet. If he was approached in the street he'd pull his wallet out, take a large denomination note out and show it to someone and then place the note in their top pocket and say "Go and have a drink on old Tommy in that pub down there, the landlords an old mate of mine!" So off they'd trot, go into the pub and say to the landlord "I've just met Tommy Cooper and he gave me some money for a drink" Then they would pull an old teabag out of their top pocket! Tommy had used sleight of hand to swap the note for an old tea bag.
    Comedy genius!

    I watched a magician on holiday in Sri Lanka, you could see how he did every trick, most went wrong, most people were embarrassed except the Brits, we were falling about laughing, and cheering, and gave him a huge round of applause, as he left the stage, after all we could talk about was Tommy Cooper, with big grins on our faces. a true comedy hero.
