Okay the timing with this and the HBO max delistings is purely coincidental. It wasn't on purpose but gosh is that great free advertising.

I was actually an alpha tester for Evolve! It was a train wreck! During testing, the lag was so unbearable that it took an eternity to get anywhere. At one point, the lag was so bad that I was stuck on one frame for ten minutes. When the game finally started working again, I was in an all white area and the map was in the sky far away in the distance. The other testers kept asking where I was and my only response was “Purgatory, I think.” Thanks for bringing up this forgotten memory of a game, keep up the great work big guy!!

I actually inadvertently coded a similar bug into a space sim I'm working on where as a 'fail safe' if x condition was met, shift player pawn by x units along X axis then check to see if the player ia in safe location, if false repeat the previous code and shift to a new position long the X axis.
Problem is if those first few checks move you OUT of the playable area, then every subsequent check will fail and the code will loop ad infinitum til you exit the playable/Renderable area/Level bounds. (Probably why it froze for a while and dumped you into a white screen far away, you most likely literally were out of the world and in all reality actually THAT far away from the playable area and it was calculating the error correction routine to shift your position multiple times a second with each cycle both moving you then checking then moving then checking occupying all the CPU cycles) The lesson here? Why doesnt a multi national corporation with a team of devs hundreds strong miss a bug that one guy, in his bedroom writing a game solo, catches immediately!)

Yeah the HBO stuff is *dumb.* I feel so bad for the people who loved those shows, as well as the animation teams behind them.
Meanwhile, we won’t be able to add funds on the Wii U or 3DS eShop starting August 29th, so we’re losing TWO ENTIRE DIGITAL LIBRARIES. Nintendo deems this as the “natural life cycle” for their products. If the Switch loses its ability to update games, then almost all of Nintendo’s library on that console loses something.

@Chief Sitting Feather (We iz fake natives!) Right, I prefer to buy my games physically. It’s the deals that attract me. I’ve focused specifically on virtual console releases because I can buy them for a quarter of what they cost on the physical market. I want to own these games, and while downloading a ROM on a computer is valid, I can play it on official hardware with official controllers. I get buying a digital game is pretty much buying a ROM, but it’s less space on my laptop and easier to put on the TV.

I'm also pretty sure that's part of the reason why they didn't localize Puyo Puyo Tetris until the Switch. They wanted it to be the only option. And the Tetris publisher at the time? Ubisoft. (Beginning to notice a pattern.) The funniest part is that Ultimate itself got delisted a couple years after launch. Turns out that it sucked! And now there's multiple ways to play Tetris!

I'm surprised you didn't mention any of the Infinity Blade apps on mobile considering the proximity of most topics discussed and how widely recognizable they were in the early 2010s!
For those that don't know: Infinity Blade was a trilogy of action apps published by Epic Games (the fortnite one; formerly the unreal engine one) for Android and iOS that involved stationary combat, with your swipes determining the direction of your swings and parries. Not to gas up obscure topics but this app was HUGE- IB1 was the single most grossing app of its time, making 1.6m$ 4 days in its launch and 23m$ over 1 year. I don't remember the exact price of each app but they were each varying between 5-8$, and considering these games came out in a time period where phone gaming- especially paid phone gaming- was the anathema of gamers, this was nutso. The game went on to have 2 sequels that also sold well, and the piece de resistance of a Dave and Busters arcade machine. These games were fun too! Good aestetics and rpg elements! Sadly, Epic at the end of 2018 announced that they would delist all IB games without any plans to make then accessible to those that didn't already own them, forever damning the name Infinity Blade to "that sword that shows up in Fortnite every now and then."

The classic Sonic games are... complicated when it comes to redistribution.
Now this is pretty well known in regards to Sonic 3 in particular, because the issues with its soundtrack (which was changed in Origins).
So it shouldn't come as a surprise that S3K on Steam was always going to get delisted at some point. Along with the Backbone Entertainment emulation on Xbox 360, those were the only ways the game was in active circulation.
Less known is that the same applies to Sonic 1 and 2. Sega do not 100% own the Sonic 1 and 2 soundtrack, which was work contracted out to Masato Nakamura and he still owns the rights to them. In the early 90's, no body really thought about the proposition that people might still want to buy old games in the future, once the initial production runs were done.
That's why the Sonic 1 and 2 remixed tracks do not appear in the Sonic Mania OST's and why the Sonic 1 & 2 soundtracks were released by him via DCT Records like his other albums, rather than just Sega.
So just like with how GTAIV had an update to remove the expired licensed music, re-releases of the 16-bit Sonic 1 and 2 are also susceptible to licensing surrounding its soundtrack which can expire, meaning that particular version of distribution has to be delisted (or renewed).
It's easy to assume 100% scummy, but there are a lot of legal shenanigans at play that we aren't privy to the full details of.
It's partly been suspected some of the reason why the older versions were removed is because the licensing with those specific releases was due to expire, and it timed out nicely to finally port the Retro Engine versions (and complete the S3K version) into a new package, and that the old S3K release may have become an issue.
It's worth noting that the more recent Switch versions of Sonic 1 and 2 via Sega AGES were *not* delisted when Origins came out, and are still available, and those are thee original games emulated by M2, with some optional enhancements if desired.

Asymmetric multiplayer was definitely a term before Evolve. Games like Left 4 Dead existed before then. However that term actually can trace all the way back to Unreal Tournament's Assault maps, which were some of the best.

I still think it’s awful that Square Enix didn’t update Song Summoner The Unsung Heroes, which was a JRPG (that used actual music from your iPod or iPhone) that was made for IPOD Touch and early iPhones, but hasn’t updated it for newer phones. So as in stands, the only way is have the game is on a Touch that you keep updated, an old iPhone, or maybe an emulated version I think.

Advocating for our Heroes, the pirates, aside, Sonic all-star racing is an interesting mess that was introduced to because Sega paid for the rights to have Pyro, Spy, and Heavy from TF2 in the game.
They did not, however, pay their voice actors to voice them.
This went about as well as you'd expect.
Also, The culling 2 might have actually been made bad on purpose to make people talk about the original culling again. Like, this isn't just a "they *couldn't* have made a game this bad" sorta theory, the way it was rolled out without much hype, the ways the game was obviously worse then the original and PubG/Fortnite, and most damning, the sheer speed at which the Culling 2 was yeeted and they announced the return of the original Culling, which was *conveniently* exactly when the spotlight on just how bad the Culling 2, all pointed to an alternative motive for the culling 2's release. Especially when companies that made worse games that stayed in the spotlight longer tried to keep them going for months before admitting defeat. It's not like this game was forced out by a shitty publisher or a forced contract, they CHOSE to release a game *that bad* in the *middle* of BRMania. A game so bad that *every single person* who talked about it talked about how the Culling one was a good game. How much they missed the culling one. How much of a breath of fresh air a melee BR would be in a Sea of shooters.
And would you look at that! The studio realized releasing a bad clone game was bad and promised to bring back the good game everyone *just* hyped up (without being paid to do so) as coming back *for free*, *and* it was coming back soon! Like, really soon. They even gave a release date pretty soon after, and hit it, wow, that's impressive to have done with ZERO planning beforehand, huh?
I don't know whether to be mad they did that just to get free advertising, or to congratulate them on getting so much free advertising that wasn't even able to be disclosed as advertising by the people giving it. Like, damn, no wonder they thought they could get away with this horseshit about play tokens in a BR, they played literally hundreds of news tubers and article writers like fiddles and *got away with it.*

I feel really bad for the people who made The Culling. They clearly had a great idea they loved, but just had to release it at the worst possible time, and no amount if attempting to revive it seemed to work. And when they finally had the money of a larger studio to finally make the game come back into the fold, said studio instead decided to shoot it in the head before it even hit the starting line.

When Sonic Origins was first announced, I was really excited! It was the first time we would be getting the Christian Whitehead ports off of mobile and onto consoles. The Mobile ports are regarded as some of the best ports of Classic Sonic, so it was a big deal!
...but of course Sega being Sega, they managed to screw it up.

I really hate how Nintendo both advocates against piracy and destroys its eShops while simultaneously focusing their time on a paid internet service with much more limited content than the Virtual Console.
Also. The Satelleview. I would have loved to play these obscure titles with actual licensed songs.
Additionally, Sonic Origins Plus actually exist with an actual new character and a lot of Game Gear titles, along with a physical copy and art book as well.
