  • Charles Jeffrey doesn't think of themselves as just a fashion designer. They're a stylist, business owner and musician, amongst many other things, too. Over the past decade, LOVERBOY has survived where many other fashion brands have failed, but maybe that's because LOVERBOY too is more than just one thing. Ahead of their retrospective exhibition opening at Somerset House, London, Charles Jeffrey sat down with SHOWstudio's editor Hetty Mahlich to reflect on their formative years as a child, studying at Central Saint Martins, club culture and the present.
Established in November 2000, SHOWstudio is an award-winning fashion website, founded and directed by Nick Knight, that has defined the manner in which fashion is presented via the Internet. A pioneer of fashion film and live fashion broadcasting, SHOWstudio is now recognised as the leading force behind these mediums, offering a unique platform to nurture and encourage fashion to engage with moving image in the digital age. In its documentation of fashion and the arts, SHOWstudio has collaborated with pop culture icons and creatives including Tracey Emin, Lady Gaga, John Galliano, Kate Moss, Alexander McQueen, Charles Jeffrey, Gareth Pugh and many more.

Let's be honest, calling CJ a stylist to discredit his work is a bit unfair when a very large portion of fashion from all brands is effectively similar product sold through the styling anyway. Just because his styling is more obvious in it's extremity doesn't take away from the fact that core products are the bread and butter of the textile industry as a whole

I agree completely. The fashion industry runs on styling and image creation, so it’s heavily hypocritical to criticise another designer for doing it too well.
