I fucking love the fact that David promotes meditation but also equally promotes caffeine and tobacco. I think a lot of people who might be curious about the benefits of meditation get scared off because they feel like it HAS to be combined with a super healthy physical lifestyle, but this guy is a living example that you can do whatever the fuck you want.

i know the exact feeling David talks about with forgetting ideas. I've written music all my life and the amount of songs I've woke up in the night and heard in my head, then got up, figured out on guitar, play it with the lyrics i hear, and then go back to sleep thinking 'that's so good, i wont forget' then the next morning I can never remember how it went. devastating

It's nice to see David so engaged. I did TM for 4.5 years after seeing him push it so relentlessly, unfortunately I never got to experience anything close to what these two describe their first meditations as being. Throughout those 4.5 years I found the technique to be tedious and a chore, full of incessant thoughts, and never felt like I was making any progress or transcending in any way, and nothing my teacher suggested helped either. Eventually I gave up and switched to mindfulness/vipassana and have finally begun experiencing transcendent moments while meditating this past year, along with all the other benefits David mentions. Which is all to say, I completely agree everyone should meditate, but I don't approve of this notion stated by David so many times that TM is the only technique everyone should do and the only one that works - this claim to exclusivity is based in ignorance. If it works for you, great do go ahead and do it, but it might not and in that case don't bang your head against the wall for years like I did thinking it's your fault that it doesn't work, try something else. There are other incredibly effective techniques out there, both ancient and modern, and many of them are also accessible to less wealthy members of society (which TM isn't necessarily).

@ Eric B. Thank you for this honest EXPERIENCE you wrote about. Creativity is so much more than meditating.
I.Q. has so much to do with it including elements totally unknown. I bet Lynch's I.Q.is barely above a 100, he is no genius in that department, just a good talker. If TM alone could do it, there would be a lot more Picasso's, Kandinsky's, Tarkovsky's, Man Ray's, Einsteins, Gödel's and Ayn Rand's in the world, (none of whom TM'd by the way, and are all VERY creative individuals) The fact remains there are not.

I don't, I feel it. I woke the other day and I was still in my dream and had not idea where who or when I was for a few seconds. Also you don’t need to pay for a mantra but it does help to be taught be an official teacher but for some it also isn’t necessary, I learned and was given my mantra by my spirit guides and his idea of writing things and ideas down, as a writer it’s so true. I believe we are all born meditating, that what we call "meditation " in adulthood " is something that we all knew what and how in childhood. I am referring at those reflection moments, day dreaming, revering moments a toddler has and in adulthood might become a nap time or siesta time and other habits. My point is we all have this knowledge, like many other notions, but growing up we leave it aside or learn how to leave it aside. Thank you for this lovely video! ❤

Amazing. I have a very small art gallery and I end up doing a lot of cleaning and arranging myself. I never really thought about it but I now think this is my form of meditation. When he talks about the jackhammering, somewhat of a constant here in Hanoi, I recognize what he is saying about it being a sound to which he can meditate. I know that I go through a tremendous range of emotions when I am doing the menial tasks that I have to perform to keep my place clean. I remember being brought to tears after a reasonably successful exhibition where I sold nothing but really enjoyed the experience. Other times, I just feel joy in hanging pieces that have survived the rigors of the many moves I have had to make and their time in art shows, restaurants, hotels and other places where they have been hanged. I think I sometimes imagine myself hanging there with them. I guess at the end of the day, it is true, it is me that is on display...

This interview is a great find! As a highly creative person and someone who is prone to anxiety and have tried meditating in the past with truly zero results I've been looking for something that might work for me. So, as a big fan of David I learned some years ago that he was an advocate of TM but in recent times I feel it's something I need in my life & as David is someone that has always felt like a true kindred spirit & a voice of trust I decided to dig a bit deeper into his world. I came across a 16 minute video where for once I got a brilliant explanation of the mechanics of the process & how the unified field is strongly tied in with TM. So, I have been attempting TM for the past week with varying results, no true transcendence or anything but at times a feeling of calm and a brighter mood [My thoughts still very intrusive] So far for me that only true escape for my over active mind has been during my creative processes, where my sense of time & space seem to dissolve which I imagine that TM must be similar. Anyway, I'll keep practising & maybe one day it will click with me. Btw, your story at the end was amazing & you two seemed to be so much at ease with each other. Thank you.

I love this interview. I have transcended. I happened all the time when I was a child. Right before falling asleep, just like David says, I would feel very very big, and very very small. Back and forth. Like I was part of the universe, huge, out there and then I would become very small, tiny. It is/was amazing. I love the way David talks about getting rid of negativity. I do agree. Sometimes when I feel great, things go so well, all sorts of synchronicities. Everything is easy and magical. Then sometimes, there is a down period, when things feel hard, isolating. Anyway, I could go on and on. Amazing.

Hi, Susie! I arrived here this afternoon because I was researching Twin Peaks. I already write, and was intrigued by what Mr Lynch said about transcendental meditation helping his process. I paused the video to google it, found there was a free online introductory session this evening with my local centre, and booked. The website acknowledges the disparity of income in the UK, and there is a scale of fees for the initial course in TM depending on income. I feel they haven't quite got it right, since those earning £40k would pay 1.475%, whereas an individual on Universal Credit would pay 70% of an entire month's income, equivalent to 5.895% annual income. (I mention it here because I read some of the previous comments and people had referred to various costs.) I'm interested to learn about TM because although I found Twin Peaks obtuse in many places, I perceived David Lynch to be a warm and genuine person, which he clearly communicated through his acting in Twin Peaks, and again here, chatting with you, Susie. Your personal story of defeating a brain tumour was surprising and encouraging. Thank you for sharing your story. I've had an enlightening afternoon!

    Thank you for the interview.
Thank you Mr. Lynch, for being an outsider artist, so to speak, for being uncomprimising.
I as an artist, need examples of artist who truly challenge the outside of the outside of expectation.
I also appreciate your comments on meditation.
    Also DUNE rocks.
They just weren't ready for it.

I have not been in the course. But on TikTok, I tripped across a very short excerpt of him, explaining where this quantum field is. And everyone that knows TikTok it keeps repeating itself, and Wally was talking. I slept off, and I want to put displace and I meditated for years often on without consistency and I could vibrate and actually leave my body so this was different. I went to this placewhere things that I loved existed it was a plane and I was with two animals that I loved the gardens and the place around me or so detailed and accurate and perfect and every sense of the word. Absolutely loved it if I could afford to take these classes I would do it.

Great to see Lynch share his insights and thanks Susie for this inspirational interview.
I've been interested in meditation and have been practicing mindfulness meditation recently. Since I've read and heard a lot about TM, I recently went to a centre in Korea.
The first seminar was free and it was an introduction to TM; its benefits etc.
After all, there wasn't anything new since I'm already familiar with the concept of TM. I went there to see if I could learn how to actually practice TM but it was for paid courses.
Despite there are many resources on how to practice other types of mediation on the internet (eg. Mindfulness), it seems to me that there's no real guide or resources on how to do TM on the internet. I end up on TM centre websites which leads me to 'price and payment' page.
Of course, experts deserve to be paid for their expertise and their knowledge.
But I wonder if TM is something that can not be studied or learned individually and how come there's almost no practical information that we can find on its actual practice.
I'd love to hear others opinions on this and their experience with TM.
Thanks and have a wonderful day.
