Agree, when he talks about something that happened in his past, it feels almost like he's reimagining the memory in his mind's eye and then talking about that memory. Like he's putting himself back there and seeing the scene, and talking about what he's seeing.

the8ctagon thank you so much! I'm just into the first few minutes of this, but I'm already impressed. You cannot compare an appearance on David Letterman with something like this. Not to come off like a snob, but this is so much more sophisticated and intellectual, for lack of a better term. As a graphic designer who is trying to revamp his career after having to take a lengthy hiatus, I know that this is going to be very inspiring, I'm being a huge fan of his work (and I had gone to art college just a couple miles from where he attended), The tools and technology are different, but the creative process is still the same. Again, I am grateful that you are sharing this video, I really appreciate how you've indexed the topics and that you could quickly access. Very useful!
I always thought letterman was alright as far as late night hosts interviewing lynch went. Leno was a nightmare though, every word he said got a laugh no matter how beautiful and honest.
Anybody who turns down the opportunity to direct one of the original Star Wars sequels after it already became a phenomenon is bad ass. Lynch, you are a bad ass.
What he describes in the first few minutes, also makes one do in life what one lives to do. Even if it doesn't bring at all much money, just enough to survive even (we don't need much for that, too). Not to mention I imagine he already had more than, money, enough at that time.

His imagination and way of thinking is so pure and chidlike. Childlike, meaning that he hasn’t been condition or corrupted into thinking he has to diminish his imagination in order to fit in. Most people have this wonder and imagination as a child but sadly try to diminish it for fear of being too different. David shows that embracing that part of yourself is rewarding and allows you to make creations that people are ultimately moved by.

I think it's more that he has been through corruption, faced his shadow self and is now at peace with his being rather than being childlike - a mature and wise person has gone full circle back to happiness and peace but with the weight of knowing the evil within oneself and the world I think - and I'm not there yet but he is definitely an inspiration

I love how he shuts down the notion of improvisation! So many movies today have their stars or directors doing press for the movies talking about what a great time it was and how much we improvise this scene and that scene and did this and did that and joked around set and pulled pranks... I would have confronted David about the possibility that Agent Dale Cooper is the best central character ever created for a television series. I would say it's true.

I've never heard Lynch questioned about Tarkowsky but I'd just assume Lynch was a fan.
What a shit list. Bet your read it in some article by another poser.
"such a freedom this brings"
my master
Two people I could listen to and never bore listening to them, David Paulides and David Lynch
What a lovely man... :)
If I had a chance to meet just one person in life to be with him or her it would be Lynch. He gives so much and he has that ability to transport very darkish and deep topics in a very upcheering way.
for those that know, the remark by mel brooks that lynch was like "jimmy stewart from mars".. seems to me that lynch is actually metamorphosing into that very person around about 26 mins. in.
thanks whoever posted. this guy is hugely formative for me...
DUNE 1984 and TWIN PEAKS brought me here. David Lynch is a genius 😊
I can't stop smiling.
"We live inside a dream."
Dream State Films our real home is Heaven 😃💜🇦🇺
Dream State Films if you watch enough Lynch, you'll begin to feel the same way.
...but who is directing it? That's the question
@@iamnotevenanumber3312 the Great Dreamer
The Guru has spoken , talent of such a scale happens seldom in life.I hope he keeps creating as long as he cans.
I swear I’ve never seen anyone who thinks like this. Nobody does. The flow of one thought to another is as wholesome as it’s insightful and definitely original. And that’s what the public sees. Makes ya Wonder what a character he must be among friends and relations.
Hearing this man speaking his peculiar mind is like enjoying a fine meal!
Lynch is a very thoughtful filmaker. Very interesting interview thanks for posting it here.
every restriction is sadness that can kill creativity
and yet his films are full of restrictions imposed by society, culture and law. for example no scenes of real sex. the freedom argument is just silly.
It's still freedom if you willingly obey your own restrictions. You loose freedom only when there are these external boundaries that do not align with yours.
You sound like perfect prey for his cult! Fab. Every restriction is sadness? I restrict killing and rape from my part of the world, what colour is the sky in yours?
Loose or lose? wait - I'm killing your existential groove by placing restrictions on spelling so I can understand your intent. Sorry mate.
The word of sin is restriction
Thank you very much, David Lynch .☕😁☕

sparklinggrey3. That was sarcasm - I feel as though you're just "saying that". That would be pandemonium.

Great interview!
I havent loved , actually fell IN love, with an artist, since Alan Rickman. I absolutely WORSHIP David Lynch. What a brilliant man, and such a pure soul!
I just love David Lynch! His mind is out of this world. 👏🏻 I started meditation recently and it has changed how i view the world and myself. 🙌🏻
58:42 Same for me. TM is a super natural do good tool, and David Lynch is simply the best.
7:59 A Moving Painting, Lynch’s first film. Even before he had the money he was A genius person.
Motion picture.
What an absolute gem.
if I had to choose one word to describe David Lynch that word would be: *_"genuine"_*
genuine artistic genius
he is amazing and beautiful and wonderful he speaks the truth
I just would thank him for his work that entertains and inspires does not shy away from showing ugly truths when necessary it's surreal yet if you have lived a strange life it's familiarity is a comfort too. I absolutely adore Lynch.

Great interview. I wasn't expecting to be as transfixed as I have been. I was simply browsing RUclips looking for something to watch, and this little gem popped up. Lynch has a calming aura about him that seeps into you.
DAVID STRATTON VERY BRILLIANT AND LOVABLE INTERWIEVER
I would have confronted David about the possibility that Agent Dale Cooper is the best central character ever created for a television series. I would say it's true.
The magnetic pull of an enlightened being; The Guru.
It’s good to experience people who haven’t experienced the death of their creativity perhaps because of the comfort it brings knowing there are people out there alive in a way that seems to be increasingly rare.
Such a really pure soul 🙏 So much respect 🙏
