Yes but by the time you get a lipo it will be more expensive, the Hoss is as much as the Maxx with a battery (Maxx without battery) So unless you have a lipo I would get the Hoss (unless ur rich)
This comment and all subcomments are both useless and irrelevant. They're both overpriced. But, the Maxx requires new driveshafts and the wide kit and new hexes. The E-Revo is garbage, but it has steel dogbones (Finally!) and is (somewhat) ready for action. Maxx actually costs way more than it's worth. The proprietary servo size also makes things difficult. It's a 1/9 scale vehicle or a small 1/8. It's the exact size as an E-Maxx with a more efficient drivetrain and much better chassis. A good Maxx requires a few hundred bucks to be a good vehicle. DO NOT PURCHASE TRAXXAS BATTERIES! 100$ batteries do exist. They are referred to as 6S batteries. A good 2S costs 20-30$ and a good 3S costs 30-40$. This Hoss is what the Stampede 4x4 should have been for years, already. The price is steep, but you're getting a lot of vehicle. Cush-drive with steel spur, the body system, the slightly SLIGHTLY upgraded driveshafts, and it's still 10th scale. So, there's no reason to compare them, at all. It's comparing a 2cm-longer Stampede to an E-Maxx. A Hoss will be cheaper to maintain and can use 2.8 wheels/tires. It can also use the 81$ HobbyWing Max10 combos I have. (102$ regular price. Black Friday. HobbyWing Direct.) This Hoss can be built with a chassis and driveshaft swap to any Stampede, also. Get a short wheelbase 1/8 scale MT body with a 1.5mm thickness and use the body posts. You won't have the cush drive, but you'll have a more stable and better-looking Stampede.
3 more differences not mentioned : The Hoss has a center diff instead of a clutch, The Hoss A-arms are the updated version and the drive shafts are seemingly twice the size. Add in the high torque-cooler running motor, higher traction larger high durability tires and a reinforced quick release body and 80 bucks price increase suddenly doesn't seem like much. Also just realized it has the better 2075 servo instead of the Stampede's 2056.
I happen to be able to just check mine on the shelf and you are correct. I have too many cars I just got my wires crossed on that one I guess. Thanks for the correction!
I have the Rustler 4x4, MAXX, E-Revo, 2.0, and this week I'm bringing home the XMAXX. All with paddle tires. Can't wait for snow. It's lightly snowing as as write this.
How about the Hoss and Rustler side by side comparison? Nice to see a real side by side of the Hoss and Stampede. Like you said the Maxx is it’s own beast of a 1/10 scale completely different than traxxas other 1/10 line up.
It's an hcg rustler 4x4 with upgrades. That's a much simpler and accurate description especially since it shares more parts with the new rustler as well as having the same wheelbase and a similar clipless caged body.
I have a LOT of traxxas models. Xmaxx, Maxx, Tmaxx(2.5&3.3), Emaxx, Revo(3.3&Vantage 3.3 racing version) eRevo 2.0, eRevo 1/16, Rustler 4x4 VXL, and Hoss. The Hoss is the biggest letdown I've ever had from Traxxas. The Rustler is one of my favorites, and the Hoss tries to turn a truggy platform into a truck, and fails. My Maxx has been one of the most indestructible RCs I've EVER owned. I've had crashes with the Maxx that made me look away in fear, and still it continues plowing through everything. The Hoss doesn't come close to the capabilities of the Maxx. That's what people will not know unless they truly bash the hell out of their cars. I don't mind breaking stuff...it's part of the hobby that I enjoy, but the Hoss breaks parts so easily, and the shocks are a complete joke. The shocks are fine for a dirt course car like a Rustler, but are horrible for a truck that is expected to take jumps. By the time you add any good parts to the Hoss, you are right there in price with a Maxx, and the Maxx will still dominate it even in stock form. Get the Maxx, and don't ever look back!
I lowered my two wheel drive Stampede body and it looks amazing. i hated the high look like you. I also converted it to a vxl 2wd Drive model with aluminum drive shafts and all aluminum front and rear steering blocks, camera, etc. Thing flies on 3s
Since you pointed out the aluminum shock caps on the VXL stampede, can you post that part number if it's the same for the 2wd non vxl stampede model. That's my next items to upgrade and then she will be good to go.
Hi Mark watched your video on electric screw driver. Found the Dewalt Couldn’t find the link where to get the MIT or Protech bits. Any chance you still have the link ? Thanks for any help
Ok so this is my take on the hoss. I've debated doing this to my 4x4 Stampede. But I really feel like the hoss is just an upgraded Stampede with a slash chassic. 🤔 Still waiting for someone to put the hoss next to a 4x4 slash. Traxxas pretty much just went through their parts bin and put this truck together. Thoughts?
Ok so the rustler 4x4 is 11.6 and the slash 4x4 is12.7 so someone measure it. Axle to axle 🤷🏼♂️ still 8 feel like it's comparable to an upgraded extended Stampede
What I assume is that they will introduce the 1/10 cush drive into all the existing 4x4 VXL models...in about 6 years. Until then, just a body paint change every 2-3 years and a new color.
have you had any problems with the stampedes 4x4 gear box? i has the vxl 2 wheel drive and stripped the gears in a short amount of time, a month if i remember correctly.
You shouldn't be stripping any gears if the gear mesh is set correctly. I still have a plastic spur on my extremely upgraded two wheel drive Stampede with upgraded VXL ESC and motor and I still haven't stripped it.
Awesome, just missing the best one… Traxxas EMaxx Brushless Edition!!!!! Lol I own the EMaxx Brushless Edition & The Stampede 4X4 VXL. Bro, you need a lowered body mount kit for that Stampede! Lol that’s like the first cheap upgrade! Lol I also have a Tamiya Super Blackfoot (Brushless)! Nice comparison but the Revo is a stadium truck not a monster truck or it the way I've always thought of it as not a monster truck but its cool to see them side by side of the maxx the stampede and the hoss all side by side with and without the bodies on and off its great to finally get to see them like that
@@DutchRCPlayground yes, because I put some Rustler 4x4 arms on my Stampede 4x4. eBay seller sent me some by mistake, so I tried them out. They are much softer than the original Slash/Stampede 4x4 arms, similar to RPM's plastic. I'm happy with them.

Great video. You just got yourself a subscriber 👍all that was missing was a traxxas rustler 4x4 to compare it too.my opinion with out seeing one. I think it's a winner.
Haven't heard anyone mention that this is really just the RTR version of the JConcepts Slash 4x4 MT conversion kit, Minus clod tires.Just my observation lol
You can shorten, the body mounts on the Stampede 4x4, looks much better when you do👍🏻 In Australia the prices at the local hobby shop atm Traxxas Hoss 3s lipo: $970 Traxxas Maxx 4s lipo: $1100 Traxxas Stampede 4x4 3s lipo: $700 At those prices, I’ll have buy the Maxx & Toss the Hoss 😂🤣
Yup can't beat a MAXX but the stampede takes way more bashing than I ever thought it would....after going brushless with stampede and lowering it and better tires I actually really love the stampede. Don't have a Hoss yet but maybe soon👍
I lowered my body and the ride height and I would put it up against the Hoss any day. It handles amazing and 3S with the castle mamba X system has it moving with ridiculous power and speed. I love the Stampede.
So basically with the Hoss, they fixed a wheelbase issue that nobody knew existed. Fixed the weird body look. And charge you way more money. Should have stuck with the regular e-maxx and just kept upgrading the electronics as time went on.
The honeycomb pattern in the Hoss chassis is for stiffening, not for looks. St4mpede is actually slightly wider than the Hoss. The extra height is just the body being jacked up too high, to make it look old school monster-truckish. The adjustable wheely bar of the St4mpede is always coming un-clipped on jump landings. I bet that's why they changed it for the Hoss. I just took mine off, as I have the clutch adjusted so it doesn't wheely anyway. That helped a bit with the rear weight bias and cleaned up the looks a LOT. Those Talon tires on the St4mpede are BAD. Original ESC and motor were not great either. My St4mpede now has a Castle SCT 4-pole 3800 motor with Hobbywing ESC and ProLine Masher tires and a vintage Chevy truck body. It is perfect now. I want to move it on, now that I've got a Maxx, but it is just SO dialed in and the Maxx is too plush. We'll see how I feel when I get Maxx dialed in with a bit stiffer springs and shock fluid. Shocks are too mushy for how fast the truck is. They're good at 20 mph, but not 40+. As for comparing Hoss vs. Maxx, you're right and you're wrong: Since they're close to the same price, you almost HAVE to compare them and let the chips fall where they may. As for the sturdiness of it, as you said, there is no comparison. One thing I don't like about the Hoss' platform design is the tiny little bearings that support the prop shaft; they burn up fast.
Hey I’m 13 and I’m just getting interested in rc cars and I heard that traxxas has the best ones so you think you can maybe give me a e revo and if not then just please think about it
All different but similar, yet there all advertised on the Traxxas website as 60+ mph with Lipo & Gearing!!! So to each there own! Lol I’ll keep my sooner to be Vintage Stampede 4x4 VXL with upgrades!!! Lol
@@nobodynoone3428 I honestly think the Rustler 4x4, and Stampede 4x4 are a little overpriced too, to be honest. Look at it this way....compare another new rig that just came out, the Lasernut from Losi. At $480 (basically the same price as the Hoss), you get a 3mm aluminum chassis, big bore aluminum shocks, aluminum shock towers, a better motor, 4S capable, a center diff, metal geared servo, sway bar, LED lights...I mean, you're getting so much more for your money. Traxxas is still using those tiny, old, plastic shocks, and plastic geared servos....and charging nearly $500. Even the 4X4 BLX line from Arrma has big bore shocks, and metal geared servos...and they're nearly $200 cheaper.
@@mintysgarage8119 Lasernut is completely different and my pick personally over the hoss. Aluminum isn't always good though, especially for bashing, and losi parts tend to be more expensive as well as their rcs are more likely to get discontinued in a couple of years. The blx line seems solid but it's cheaper for good reason, more plastic, cheaper radio system, cheaper body etc will result in a lower price. The rustler seems to sell well and the hoss has some upgrades over it. A lower price would be nice, but I can understand the current one, even though I don't like the cost.
@@nobodynoone3428 I realize the Lasernut is a slightly different vehicle, but it's close enough....it also doesn't have to be the exact same, to compare value. You're simply getting WAY more for your money. And yes aluminum isn't alway better in certain areas, but it's in the right spots on the Lasernut. You say Losi tends to be more expensive, yet...the Lasernut is the same price as the Hoss. I think my point still stands. The Hoss is a 3S truck, with small shocks, a plastic geared servo...charging nearly 6S truck prices.
I dont know how anyone could be proud of the Hoss. here in canada, its going 690, the maxx is 790, and the stampede 4x4 vxl is 550. the pricing is crazy! I felt that way about the Maxx at first until you open it up, its one of the strongest RTR RC's any one could ever own. but, chinsy chassis, driveshafts, esc, and garbage stock shocks, for the Hoss!? Those shocks and servo are like Commodore 64 old. this is a "hurry we need to pay our lawyers to sue people" release.
This has got to be hard to work for them... It's a rubbish release. But you gotta smile and brave it out, put your name on it. but seriously man, is traxxas THAT good to you?
So a more expensive Stampede for $200 more than the Arrma competitor Granite.... What is Traxxas thinking. I'm all for competition but this does not make sence. Thanks for uploading Mark
For the price, I'd get the maxx. But... out of all of those 1/10 scale trucks, I'm going to go with the Rustler 4x4 VXL. For the price it is a great package with good handling too. I love those cars. Keep up the great work Mark! Also, does anyone know why the decided to use a *bigger motor* ? Is it any better?
This is exactly what made me buy arrmas over traxxas. Im sorry but you get a ton more for your money. 300 for a 3s capable truck with no upgrades needed besides maybe 12 dollar rpm arms
Traxxis always gives you inferior parts to make you upgrade. I say do it right the first time it's 2020. Btw the Bandit is the best as far as bashing with a castle motor and mombax ESC. Traxxis shocks stock hasn't changed in 25 years. But I expect high standards to come. Arma is owned by redline now so it's game on for Traxxis.
Bruh i just got my wheelie bar.... And my stampede 2wd steering Block broke because i was cleaning it from mud running.... So i didint get to test my wheelie bar immediately llXD
Out of curiosity of what "Hoss" meant, so from what I'm reading it's a southern slang term for a big, strong and respected or dependable person, usually a man; one who is large like a horse. Honestly, I'd like to think it's more geared towards the meaning of "Big Strong Horse".
Traxxas might release a 1/6 revo, but I doubt they'll ever make a "1/5" scale version. Just too big and expensive, unless they lie about the size like some other companies do.
@@xWORLDxCHAMPIONx The Xmaxx is not 1/5th. That's misinformation spread by people not knowing what they're talking about. Horizon called it 1/6 when they sold it and Traxxas does not put an official scale on it.
Nobody No One I know it isn’t bro but that’s what everybody else says so that’s what I’m sayin. The Arrma outcast 8S is the same size and Horizon calls it 1/5 scale all day. I get that it isn’t technically but nobody cares except a few people.
For the cost of a Hoss, you could almost get a Maxx, but for the cost of a Maxx you could almost get an Erevo. I kinda see a market for the Maxx, but the Hoss makes no sense. They should make a 1/6 scale Erevo.
why get a Hoss when you can get a Maxx for just a lil more money?? plus the Maxx is a beast! it can take a lot of beating before breaking something! don’t really know what Traxxas was thinking, we don’t really need the Hoss..
They could have. However it would have been even more expensive since it has a better motor, metal spur, upgraded center diff, esc fan, new chassis etc over the rustler 4x4.
I mean I love all three vehicles and I’m not trying to dog tracks us on this one but their pricing is ridiculous on this. The max should be the cost of the horse and for the pricing I would just buy stampede I just don’t see that much difference in it and for the price of the house I’m either going to spend a little extra money and get something 6S or I’m going to spend $300 and buy a new arrma Granite or big rock or wait a few months and wait for the new 4S lineup to come out from them. I love Traxxas as much as the next guy but they seriously have got to do something about their pricing versus what you get or they’re not going to be contenders in this game
We needed a comparison like this on RUclips and glad it was you.
I lowered my Stampede 4x4 body and the ride height some and it looks and handles amazing. Absolutely flies on 3S. Running a castle mamba system. The CG, speed, power and handling is incredible.

So basically with the Hoss, they fixed a wheelbase issue that nobody knew existed. Fixed the weird body look. And charge you way more money. Should have stuck with the regular e-maxx and just kept upgrading the electronics as time went on.
I am hoping to get one!
I never use the wheelie bar its too restrictive
Hey I’m 13 and I’m just getting interested in rc cars and I heard that traxxas has the best ones so you think you can maybe give me a e revo and if not then just please think about it
Traxxas has the most popular and most customizable. Other brands make vehicles that never break, but...they will always be exactly what they are.
Oh ok thanks man
Traxxas-“Bye bye stampede. You’ve been replaced.”
I think Traxxas is finally bringing the stampede to an end.
That's what it seems like to me. A good basher that can run on cheaper batteries.
Still on the market today!!
All different but similar, yet there all advertised on the Traxxas website as 60+ mph with Lipo & Gearing!!! So to each there own! Lol I’ll keep my sooner to be Vintage Stampede 4x4 VXL with upgrades!!! Lol
Maxx vs xmaxx what should I buy!
Second I love your video
Nice comparison. I would say go for the Maxx. The diffs alone make up the price difference 👍
For sure, and who doesn't want a baby Xmaxx for half the price?
Am sorry but couldn't pay that much for the hoss a 3s car.
Traxxas is out of their mind asking $470 for the Hoss....plain and simple.
I agree the HOSS looks amazing especially since I’ve never had a Stampede but I’m not paying $479 for a 1/10 scale truck.
I'm just wondering how much people think it should be considering the upgrades it has over the popular rustler.
I don’t care for the hoss, but I don’t care for the new cheap arrmas with a plastic drive line. For the money I would buy the 6s arrma, or a maxx
@@Biowolf626 now your talking.
Oh I want one! It does look like a beefier stampede
is the hoss waterproof?
It's just as "waterproof" as similar rcs if not more so.
It takes 4s compared to 3s.
@@jcallesano I heard they run that motor on 6s in the boats, but I'm not certain.
@@nobodynoone3428 thatd be impressive. Its too tiny for 6s though. Its smaller than i thought it would be. It'd be uncontrollable i think on 6s
Thanks, that was very informative. Glad you went this route
You said granite haha is that the Arrma that you are getting?
I'm about to get a hoss
Seems to me like the stamped is the best deal
Need a new nitro car but traxxas is a Honda with their 2 strokes of RC
I just ordered a maxx motor from Jenny’s rc to put into some vehicles.
Still would rather get a used slash 4x4 hcg ultimate and put a emaxx body on it if I really needed one cause it's got all aluminum upgrades
you forgot the cost of wide kit, they should just add it stock
What's interesting, since the Hoss has a bigger motor, is that there's a motorcycle with a V8 engine called the Boss Hoss.
Damn is way more like the stampede than I was hoping it’d be. Traxxas is gonna have to release a 1/5 scale revo to win me back after this. 🤷🏽♂️
Or a 1/5 scale slash, that’d be a blast!
Traxxas might release a 1/6 revo, but I doubt they'll ever make a "1/5" scale version. Just too big and expensive, unless they lie about the size like some other companies do.
Nobody No One By 1/5 scale I mean about x-maxx sized. They call it 1/5 scale so I’m calling it 1/5 scale.
You really need to do some upgrades on that Maxx, mark....no love for the maxx
For the cost of a Hoss, you could almost get a Maxx, but for the cost of a Maxx you could almost get an Erevo. I kinda see a market for the Maxx, but the Hoss makes no sense. They should make a 1/6 scale Erevo.
The hoss looks like the stamped and the Maxx had a baby
I took my body post off and brought the body down it looked stupid with the body sitting so high!!
why get a Hoss when you can get a Maxx for just a lil more money?? plus the Maxx is a beast! it can take a lot of beating before breaking something! don’t really know what Traxxas was thinking, we don’t really need the Hoss..
For the money Traxxas has this retailed at, couldn't they have included some Big Bore shocks?? IMO I feel this makes the Stampede obsolete.
They could have. However it would have been even more expensive since it has a better motor, metal spur, upgraded center diff, esc fan, new chassis etc over the rustler 4x4.
Why would you not just buy the Maxx for 50-70 more? I would hands down get the Maxx, but Im sure people will spend Crazy 480.00 for the Hoss.
Looks like the boss and stampead use mostly the same parts
