To be honest I do think the ridiculous enemy stats and etcetera had its charm, and getting the medals felt like a great achievement you had to earn. But having to farm the stages like annihilation, without skip tickets, and shuffle RNG, was (is) quite frustrating. If the rewards were like IS2, with no time limit, I think it would have been fine.
Also, for the record, I prefer the old Supporter A effect.

Yeah, that is (at least for me) the biggest issue with SSS. The fact that is a "farming" mode , runs contrary to the spirit of "high difficulty, challenge" stages
honestly for me i just never played it cus its time consuming and i just never needed it. events give me enough module upgrade mats for what i need especially since i dont upgrade modules much
Very much agree that it suffers a lot from being a farming mode, and one for stuff that you're probably better off just getting from event shops. As someone who actually plays this mode for fun and always has, I feel that the reward is kinda sad.
I think the problem with old SSS wasn't that it was too hard, it was with "stat-stick" scaling. It was just, enemies, that had more stats. That's boring. It should be enemies from different CCs or something inflicting crazy ass aoe crowd control. That's difficulty. If it's random, that's difficult. This was just bigger = harder. Which isn't true at all

Enemies become annoying stat sticks with absurd rng to carry on wich MAKES the mode stupidly and unbalancedly hard
adding difficulty by having random mechanics doesn’t make it fun. it makes it frustrating. huge AOEs and CCs are fine but you must be able to plan around them otherwise it’s just annoying and it feels unfair.

Liskarm buffed with defenders and Carnelian buffed with snipers adjacent to each other work fantastic for me. The damage Carnelian gives is delighting

I used her with 3 sniper and then set her down and try to use the equipment thing to give her 2 caster stacks. For the last 3 stages its very nice on certain tiles

The only rework SSS needs is to make it non-required gameplay-wise
Move those module rewards as a weekly mission reward and make SSS rewards something like mats or skins
Suzuran s2 + Goldenglow s2 + tanks is my favorite combo for SSS. Its relevant and OP on every stage.
You mentioned it, but yeah if it was was optional content for masochists to enjoy then im sure old SSS would of been fine as is, but when you make it manditory for account progression every 2 weeks a certain feeling of dread sets in near every reset.

Some modules are great, but a lot are unnecessary, you also get mats for one stage 3 module every event
@@arthorias06 Considering a lot (and I mean A LOT) of "legacy"/ year 1 6 stars need lvl 3 modules to even be up to snuff to the newer operators? yeah.... I'd say it's pretty mandatory for those who enjoy a lot of year 1 operators and got cucked by HG refusing to retroactively buff them at least somewhat.

Some module upgrades are not necessarily like Bagpipe or Suzuran, obviously they are better with modules but it will only matter in high risk CC maybe
There are several noticeable modules which significantly improve characters tho, I am not arguing that (like Spalter, or Schwartz redeployment, Mostima is borderline unusable without module) but for those you can get mats from event shops
Also small rant: why new 6 stars get modules when they are released? It seems like HG hides part of operators strength behind module grinds when modules should be the way to buff old operators IMO

I managed to clear both OG SSS stages before the rework and the highs were really high but the lows are really low. I did enjoy abusing the Passenger with Caster Buff strat with Irene and Gnosis. But I would rather farm the mode without the pressure of missing out on the medal. Then I could try out different strats just because.
My strategy in SSS is a very complex one, it consists in using only the few characters that i have leveled because i started the game reacently witch weirdly enough includes Goldenglow without me knowing that she is meta

The painful chore in previous SSS is actually because of the lack of thought in the permit system (Draw)
Basically in a card game (TCG, Poker, etc2), you draw (an RNG) to open yourself a new option, which make it fun.
But because of how the old SSS works, you can't draw when you need it, ultimately, the challenge = how much retry are you willing to make.
Which is really2 bad in "fun" perspective, because I know I will win, but how many retries?
In Old SSS, bad RNG = retry.
In New SSS, bad RNG, is somewhat tolerated given you can now get more draw and stock some draw.
Also Supporter A goes from straight stupid (Previous SSS), to sometimes OK (Current version).

Finally, old SSS was stat-stacking foes, not to mention the stupid DEF increase, making almost all Physical dealer useless.
Players are there to have some fun experimenting with fun builds, not to be locked to the meta.
This is why IS is a great welcome (Tons of fun experiment and Risk & teambuilding), while SSS is not (Make players locked in Meta).
To make SSS better, HG should not make it easier,
But to remake the Class Tools & make the draw system better, such that the Draw will mainly be used by players to both build and save their play.
(Think of it like YGO/Clash Royale/Hearthstone)
At current SSS, Draw exist solely to Build.

I had a lot of fun in pre-nerf SSS with 5 Vanguard A + Module 3 Ch'en S2.
She gets a guaranteed S2 use every 9 seconds even when she does absolutely nothing, and the 500% atk modifier felt extremely juicy especially when you have a +200% ATK Skalter nearby

i think SSS is good now, i flawlessed it before the patch and i do think its honestly better now. It really felt like you either had to be a super whale or you had to resort to meta only, but now its good, now you can use your ops and even if they arent the crop of the creme they can win.
I knew something had changed, but I couldn't tell what it was since I don't struggle with sss once I figured out all the stages. Glebe was way too easy, but I understand why they did it. IS-2 Hard Mode is definitely a good idea if you're looking for that challenge. IS-3 is coming soon, so we won't have to wait long for a challenge though.
Sss should have a endless mode
This should be a thing honestly. Endless mode but the stacks will be increased perhaps, to balance difficulty (like set it to 7 or 10 stacks max)
Loved the video! I disagree in that I like the updated SSS. Missed S.O.S. opportunity for your intro, but I get that's not the vibe this video is going for. I love the ending credits too! Great work!
I think a big problem that no addresses is that for newer players you need many built units to fill an entire roster, or else you end up with many random e1 or e0 units, that can really fuck you over when you don't draw any of your actually built units. And then you can't improvise, when you mostly have filler units on your hand. It's also less fun to build your deck, because every deck you built has the same units in it, because you don't have any units to choose from to actually make a choice.
no one addresses it because it wasn't meant for new players it was made to be a end game mode for seasoned players that's why they made it so hard but it didn't workout
Also, that's not true, you only need about 3 core units to do SSS, the rest can be E0 lvl 1 feeder operators and in some cases that can be better actually. 1 of the core units can be borrowed.
That being said, having backups for your 3 core units does wonders to mitigate the RNG inherent in the mode. So 6 E2s is better than 3 but not necessary to fully clear the game mode.
@@ian59 yes when i realized this, i just bring more foods for my goldenglow. I didn't get Irene tho so i borrowed her from the support unit. Ofc i'm not really new been playing since mansfield break rerun so i have few e2 unit to carry the team but the core characters is like gg and irene

I borrowed Irene too! My other 2 core units are Suzuran and Passenger.
I think it's worth building for SSS meta since it's going to be the key source for end game development materials. We're still discovering more about the meta about this mode too so hopefully you could stumble upon another good operator.
Module system is for veteran players, so SSS is for veteran players as well
i get the point but sss was actually terrible for anyone that doesnt play with al lthe meta omega op or omega niche units, i mean i play the game for abt a year now and between the current saving for texas (im at 300+ pulls with op luckily) the future pulls for mlynar and eventually the monster hunter + the chong ye and lin coming soon its preety much impossible for anyone that didnt get irene or passenger for some reason to do it unless they heavily invest in some niches as 5 stars assuming they are lucky enough to have, because at the point my acc stands with a decent investment in it it has surtr, thorns mountain spalter poz fiameta hoshiguma ,silverash lumen schwarz angelina skadi, its just preety hard to cope with it considering how hard it was for people who dont have the meta units, i would say that it was oversimplified but this change is still far better for preety much any f2p or player that doesnt have all the omega meta units
Weirdly enough, your opinion of SSS after the change was mine before the change. To me SSS has never been really difficult, difficulty isn't just making hp and defense go so high the enemies are invincible, this is just making the level longer. Not only that it's a very small amount of stages that you have to do over and over again to farm for something. There's a reason this game has an auto system. Because doing the same stage ad infinitum for materials isn't fun, so the game does it for you. I feel like SSS should've been a side mode that gives you additional mats like IS, instead of unique ones required for modules. Maybe then it would be easier to appreciate it for what it is instead of this 40 minutes long grind to get me some modules. SSS to me has always felt like if you had to manually play annihilations every time.
Whisperain is one of my favorite healers and I quickly learned the lesson @7:05 before this video. But that sound almost becomes hypnotic if you are stuck delaying in the stage for 30 minutes.
as someone who only has 4 E2s because I'm still a new player; and aiming to clear hard stages like h10-3 by getting module upgrades- fuck SSS. It's _still_ too hard after the nerf because there's no way in hell I'm getting a full squad of usable e2s off the bat. I don't think making stupidly high scaling enemies that can't be creatively defeated, nor making the process rng dependent _and_ long is good game design. It needed to die, and the nerf was deserved.
That being said, there's definitely people with a fully built squad, who've probably been itching for something masochistic to do and flex, and hypergryph should've let SSS be that thing for such people. A 'normal' mode and 'hard' mode where the rewards stay the same but the difficulty varies would've been nice.
honestly the problem with the old one was how fucking tanky the enemies were, they have such an absurd amount of health and def they were practically a fuckin wall unless youre lucky enough to get a fully buffed meta operators
This is the second time I’ve seen someone recommend Leizi for SSS. Well, I have her built up and haven’t used her for anything of note, so I guess it’s time to finally dust her off and see how she does with SSS.
I have been eyeing leizi for some time. Somehow found someone with E250 mod3 leizi, borrowed multiple times, and friended them.
What do i know. I now have my own E2 50 S2M3 mod3 leizi, and SSS has never been as easy back then.
Just note that, leizi is trash because of her normally sluggish aspd, even with module. so if you want your leizi to do something you need to stack insane amount of +aspd on her or have multiple low-res enemies, non dangerous, unblocked, and stay in position long enough for leizi to deal some damage (like the current sleeping power armor enemy).
But leizi is my core SSS carry, with eyja as support, so i think the investment is worthy, even if its only for SSS.
i use her she great with her mod, good slow decent damage.
I'd totally build Leizi for SSS!
Important to note it's her module's Tier 2 that makes her good.
I'm glad i was able to do my SSS first time clear before the nerf! It was honestly so frustrating and fun and i'm building Leizi now (i just got her few months ago) because i was so thrilled to play the mode again.
Idk if i'm gonna still struggling with the nerf version because i haven't got time to play it again but i understand that veterans can feel that is not so challenging anymore. I'm still learning lot from this game but maybe one day when i have those characters and build them, i can feel the part where is not challenging anymore. Because i do love challenge too
I also think it was fun to do the first two secret medals even though i had to go through hell. And i was disappointed when i got the third secret medal on the first try 😔

So challenging is great. New enemies awesome. Losing to RNG or the bug crash that has meant I never go beyond level six because I can handle losing to poor play not to a bug I can’t control or having to rely on good RNG every stage when I my odds get worse as I progress.
the later stage (like stage 5 onward) are kinda ok and slighly fun to play
I still remember getting 22 danger level on stage 4 and need to redo it like 4 more time lmao

Here's some hell to imagine.
What if IS4 featured SSS's scaling and stacking mechanics, across the entire run.
Obviously the scaling would need to be 'scaled' back to a pace that would be managable for an hour+ run, but imagine it. Imagine the *fun* it could be.
While I can understand your point, and indeed sometimes big stat dump is just good fun and challenge, as a newer doktah with a massive urge to check every box to completion before the deadline to get all those sweet f2p rewards,...
I am glad SSS soul died and I will be dancing on its grave as I consume its dark soul for sustenance and power up the modules for my ops. No more running 3 hours doing the same first 3 maps with a borrowed GG and praying you get that bonus 1 more rare drop. Now I just run like 3 runs and done. Still cant clear 1 mine fully yet, but that is my skill issue and a bunch of ops I havent built.

I just enjoy the buffs and actually being able to choose instead of RNGjesus, i mean, there's still rng, but i can lie to myself

My wild picks are 3 specialist B, 2 sniper A carnelian, who does unbelievable map-clearing damage on a respectable cooldown, and five vanguard Saria, who is hilarious with s3 m3.

I've never used her in the game at all (well, except for the base combo) so I had no idea.

failed at stage 6 as usual (average skill issue, also im aiming for first time clearing all stages for medals, probably unrealistic seeing me failing stage 6 [sometimes even stage 1] all the times, but meh)
3h wasted, return to baseline stage 4 grind (playing on tw, we still have the old system of 8 stages and had just released mlynar, before ideal city and ashring)

Old one, I maxed out at stage 6. New one, I was able to finish all 8. But I had some time to build more operators. But as a newish player, game mode is just bad for us. If you don't have the operators, you don't have it. If you don't have operators built, you don't have operators built. Since SSS got released, I was able to build some more operators but I'm still missing a lot. I still have like no support built. Can't do anything like your strategies.
S1 Horn is super fun though.
Anyways, at the end of the day, the worst thing about SSS is the RNG. I mean Arknights is a strategy game and majority of us don't like RNG cause it ruins our strategy. It's also why many games removed RNG factor cause it gives a poor playing experience. You can win or fail due to luck. We aren't playing against other players, so if you fail, you can just play a zillion times until the stars align and the RNG goddess is with you. This is also why the gacha goddess is not really a true RNG goddess. There are soft and hard pity.
My meta team was only 2 ops, gg s2 and suzuran s2. And i called this team "lazy team when i dont want to play sss since its goddamn too long and unskippable"

My main problem was the scaling was to fast and it just cost my game screen to freeze which force me to restart and if i kill everything to quickly it also freezes so all i felt is this gamemode is just Bullshit
