Yuumi is absolutely fixable. Dawngate (another Moba, now deleted) had a fantastic character that worked in the same way. Mina. But she was incentivized to jump out into a pile of enemies to fear them, and she took a % of the damage the host took. Thus making it so that she couldn't just stay attached constantly without taking any risks.
Yup. God I miss Dawngate. Ironic that Riot stole so many ideas or champ designs from Dawngate, but yet they didn't take the one thing for yuumi that made that champ balanced.
I liked yuumi before they did the whole rework. I liked being able to jump from ally to ally and decided who needed to be healed. But then they made it so that you HAVE to stay on one champ and that made her feel so boring.
This was made to safe keep adc players. The old yuumi would just lose you botlane and ditch you to get on the fed solo laner, so you have an adc, who already needs peel from their team and bonus gold to work, auto losing lane and then being left without a support at all. When you saw yuumi being picked, you knew you had a 75% chance of not playing the game if you were adc.
I never understood why they forced Yuumi to stay on one champ. Literally just make it so that she only buffs her attached-to ally for a given time after attaching. Then she's forced to at least switch allies or detach to keep the buffs going.
and the change has caused people to rage at yuumi players for not going on them when there was no reason to do so. i had a game the other day were someone raged at me because i didn't go on them to boost there performance, but i only would of given them a shield and AS they wouldn't use. they still thought yuumi gave a Adaptability buff. when i explained about it and the befriend mechanic in its simplest way they still raged.
Agreed. Yuumi being forced to sit on one player was a terrible choice. There were a lot of ways they could have tried to balance her, like her current punishment for getting hit when jumping from ally to ally, and no longer being untargetable mid-travel - but the unclear passive that incentivizes you to a boring playstyle where you are reduced to worse than a bot to the point that you literally get flagged for AFK for playing her as the devs 'designed' in her overly punitive nerfs was among the worst decisions for people that were actively asking for her existence since season 1 of League's birth. I was there when DOTA was still actively and regularly argued as 'better than league, when people were asking for a 'wisp-like' support that attached to allies and couldn't always be hit. Yuumi being so hated always frustrated me, because she was so close, but so far, to a genuinely unique playstyle where you had to make a decision on who to attach to, and when you needed to hop off in order to get those lane-sustaining passive auto-attacks in. Current iteration destroyed Yuumi's only reason for every being vulnerable, which was what most people kept bitching about and still seem to think is the 'fix' to her kit. It's not. The entire idea behind her identity relies on the attachment and untargetable conditions. I've ranted about it for ages, and I've workshopped a lot of ideas on how to make her original iteration and current one marry into a more balanced and engaging champion -- but she's so universally shat on and Riot themselves have given her the sona vs. seraphine treatment - nerf her into the ground so that she's barely better than a minion and then replace her with other champions and leave her locked in the proverbial closet and hope people forget about her.
It used to be that her passive applied a boost upon connecting to a champ. So it made a lot of sense to dismount, attack someone and then reattach to someone. It was in Yuumi's best interest to repeatedly hop on and off, but RIOT figured it's best to remove that playtime.
This is because yumi needs to give a BJ to the adc and with the other hand play league, think about it if she needs to use two hands to play the game how would she give a good BJ to the adc
The first seconds gave me guide for hitchhiker vibes like “In the beginning, the universe was created. This has made a lot of people angry, and been widely regarded as a bad move”
5:30 i know a friend who set up a bot in a way where he could access both league clients on one pc all the time. he than bound yummis abilities to his own mouse extra buttons and would play his own support while grinding out adc games. Edit: i inquired how he did it and apparently he attached custom click buttons to the side of the mouse. Those fed into a raspberry pi that ran a Windows VM that would autoselect Yuumi every game. His mouse inputs where recorded and send to the raspberry pi that was connected to his main PC. That would mirror the mouse movements 1:1 in the virtual machine. So he could play the regular adc with his mouse and keyboard while having the sidebuttons on his mouse controller yuumi‘s abilities. By mirroring the mousemovents he could even ensure the ult and i belief q is the „skill“ shot would also hit more optimally.
The “rework” literally made yuumi half of a champion, held gunpoint to stay on adc, zero active play with passive and on hit heal that only “helps” in laning which it doesn’t bc it messes with lane control and does jack in teamfights with the amount of burst from items. Balance idea: Turn yuumi into skarl with kled, make her pop out after a threshold of dmg is taken. Give her knights vow passive. Make her specialize in preventing dmg. Don’t give her CC like lulu, seraph, etc.
yeah like i playing yuumi and i can say one thing u cant survive without being attached and i thing the idea of having yuumi just get off after dmg taken or having her take some % of the dmg taken would be grate but then they would need to buff her early cuz she is so week by herself
im a yuumi main and i say kill them all... keep the last changes but revert to the state where she had to dettach in order to get the passive, LITERALLY ANYTHING could destroy the cooldown of the W preventing yuumi to get into an ally again. What i don't like is how she's no longer a suppport anymore, people builds AP with her instead of building support items, i loved the big heals donde with her and the gigantic shield at end game along with alll those active support items that could either makes you win or lsoe the game depending how and where you used them. Its nidalee all over again, i loved to play her AP but then it got so many changes that its not the same anymore.
This is the right idea. Limit how much time she can stay attached, with a cooldown for reattachment. And they could make it so that the limit was longer in lower ELO or non-ranked to help with the new player acclimation thing.
The entire “she was made as a tutorial champion for new players”point makes absolutely no sense, given how playing Yuumi teaches you an entire different skillset that you can’t apply to any other champion. You will not learn to play League by playing Yuumi.
The key word *skillset* xD Yuumi requires no skill, blackjack and poker require skill, yuumi is like playing the slot machine hoping for the best outcome
On the other hand, you learn what the map looks like, what waves do when they crash, what ultimates sound like, that you are on the one side and want to get to the other side... don't underestimate the knowladge gap a total noob has
@@bloomingcarnageand yet I have seen players not know how to run or build her. Keep seeing players build support items on current Yuumi, when it’s better to build for AP scaling as even her healing passive and ult heal all scale off AP.
I think it is okay idea - newbie attaches himself to other more experienced player and observers how they move, act. The problem is, Yummi by design should've been allowed only for newbies, and not allowed in ranked or pro-play
Riot comparing yuumi to akali and qiyana will never not be funny. A few cherrypicked graphs is the definition of lying with statistics. Truly a 300 years of collective experience moment.
Win rate is also a bad mechanic. Of course her win-rate will go up with elo like everyone else, because whoever she attaches to will be able to do better overall if they have higher skill. She goes up because she is being carried.
I love how he keeps cutting to clips of Kadeem when talking about new players, when in reality Kadeem has been playing league way longer than most players 😂 truly built different
i do ward as yuumi, though roaming only when my laner is doing fine and I can catch someone who just went B she's just really damn slow and buying shoes on her makes no sense unless you solo lane
the most frustrating part about this is, from Yuumi's PoV its not a valid option and the rework further cemented the fact that yuumi has little to no valid reason to consider this a good play. At least pre-reworked yuumi had the incentive to attach to a jungler while roaming to get better vision or prio for an objective, doing this with the changes she received means she is essentially half the champion she can be if she just stayed with her AD carry. Ultimately a bad game design by riot who focused SO hard on trying to bring the champion out of pro play with the rework, that they ignored dealing with any of the real issues the champion design has. I still rate Yuumi's rework as the worse rework to date, absolute fail 0/10 by the dev team (sorry guys its true, this is the failed chance you had to fix the champion and you blew it, no buffs or nerfs will fix it, she needs another rework to be in an ok state)
i hadn't played since i quit like 8-9 years ago and completely blocked out league from my mind, i remember seeing yuumi for the first time, seeing her attach to her laner and went "huh, that's interesting, wonder how long that lasts until she gets booted off her laner" oh boy was i disappointed
@@BassBoostingBrony leagues "rip-off" mlbb has a similar attach-type hero to yuumi except her kit revolved around heals and shields and ofc, she has a time limit to being attached
riot should just actually make tutorial modes that focus on training different specific fundamental skills in the game like what is a player going to learn and improve at the game by playing yummi? literally nothing.
This^^^^ Like imagine if rito had tutorials on: THE FUNCTION OF EACH ROLE Trading patterns for each role (when to poke/trade/commit) Playing around objectives (when to commit/trade) Playing around Summs Optimized jungle pathing (i.e. scuttle spawn times) Tower diving effectively Level timings and pressure Optimizing items/runes against matchups (NOT THE RECOMMEND SYSTEM AND TEACHING HOW THE F****** GAME WORKS) Lane states (freezing, hard pushing) (this one is a bit of a stretch but my god we need more) Like my god this is so fundamental at a reasonably high level that it's criminal it isn't taught when you start.
Games like DOTA 2 do this yet League is still lagging behind about it. They clearly don’t have the new player experience on priority at the moment cause otherwise there wouldn’t have been such obvious oversights like the mission system initially not accounting for the fact that blind pick was removed in the patch.
Yuumi lets you learn champions abilities without inting your first 100 games, and makes you understand team fighting and map awarness. Champ micro and rightclicking to move isn't all of league
@@aishan6224 Yuumi really doesn’t have a play style that translates well to the rest of her class though. Even in that example, you would get better mileage and fundamental improvements playing something like Soraka instead of the cat.
@@Ratty524 if i take my example i main jg and top and after lets say 300 games i had never understood how bot champs play. So playing yuumi was a good way to learn them ( harder to learn in late game team fights). It also helped my macros alot, knowing who to attach on, their strength, but mostly by giving me time to look at the map for free.
So there's something nobody is mentioning because they either got every champ on release or are just now getting into it. But Yuumi used to be in the highest price tier of champions before the shop rework. What new person was going to grab her when she's that expensive?
I started playing right after Yuumi got added, she was still on the launcher home page. She was like the first or second champ I unlocked that the game didn't just give to me.
Abathur in Heroes of the Storm had an ability called Symbiote which created a Yuumi instantly on any player, minion or structure within range, but didn't ruin the game. This is because it's body doesn't become the Symbiote, and becomes stationary and unable to move while the Symbiote is active. They could fix Yuumi easy, but refuse to because it would be copying another MOBA. Abathur also had global mines it could spam across map between Symbiotes. It could also double lane for xp by sticking it's body near towers in one lane and symbiote on minions in another lane. For Yuumi you could stop making her attach and just have her have an instant long range set of abilities. You would have the choice of fighting through her buffs, or try to find where she's hiding and take her out, potentially getting ganked before you reach her, or succeeding and getting a 2v1 for a while.
One other thing is that Abathur's simbiote was his only True global ability, his passive to soak lanes and mines only covered half of the map in raneg which pushed abathur players into hiding in small pockets out in the map to try and get as much exp as possible, his passive spawned little locusts that would walk down a lane and soak exp but also give away his position, so the abathur player always had to play a hide and seek game with enemies risking getting killed since he was as squishy as a minion
TBH they already had a character that they stole wholesale from for Yuumi, just didn't give the risk/reward that was part of that other character's kit. Mina from Dawngate.
It's funny because the first character from HotS that came to mind when thinking about this was Gall (from Cho'Gall), he can't move, is attached to Cho and you can't really interact with him either (not even stun/silence) Although I've always felt that a good Cho'Gall player would also dominate HotS matches, it was much better knowing that Gall is permanently attached to Cho, so all you had to do was eliminate Cho and Gall would fall too.
@@Ghubaluba i think the small difference that makes it such different cases is the classes, Cho and Gall were a bruiser and battle mage stuck together so Gall wasnt really supportive of Cho in any direct way, he just provided cover fire and their passive actually made it so Cho would need to nerf Gall's damage to tank more or Gall could nerf Cho's resistance to deal more damage, at the end of the day Gall was a mage stuck to a bruiser and since their lifebars were combined any %dmg would just Melt them, they would dominate specific games where the drafting was just correct, but against any counter pick they were esentially a free double kill, similar case to Deathwing, Yuumi is an enchanter which automatically makes the fact that ur stuck to someone 10 times less important, as an enchanter youre always gonna be stuck to someone anyway
Was not expecting to see some of my own gameplay, I was so immersed in your storytelling that it legit shocked me to see me back in the good ole' days when I didn't vehemently hate Yuumi. Amazing video Myth!
... WHAT IS THE *GSA* DOING HERE? Man I NEVER watch content that isn't yours but I saw this and was like "Alright, we're hating on Yuumi today, let's learn about some competitive Yuumi history."
10:05 Designers have fault but I always ask myself..don't they have checks and balances in play? Don't they have a PBE? Don't they have someone saying, "I think this is a bit broken." ?
Good editing man, the video was super entertaining. I will say though, I kind of feel bad for the designer going live and apologizing and saying if he was a better designer maybe the champion would be better. That's tough.
Should have deleted Yumi ages ago. But, in the upside: finally pushed me far enough to uninstall toxic league, never looked back. Freed me from the addiction.
What if they changed her passive to be like Dr. Mundo - hard CC prevention for your attached ally until hit, then goes on CD. If the attached ally gets CC'd, she get's knocked off of them, and can't re-attach to anyone for a short period of time. At least it gives the enemy team a way to force her out into the fight.
Perhaps tank yummi would be a thing, where your main objective would to be soak up negative effects and damage as a living meatsheild, and being attached would be exclusively to block CC, which if it fails means you opened your team up to being hit with non-CC abilities.
I would hate this even more. Imagine landing cc on Ezreal only for it to not matter at all. Unless the CC is like 5 minutes, this would feel horrible to play against.
the issue with this idea is we are now basically rewarding Yuumi for just existing. one of the biggest things that especially a bot lane support can do is negate CC for the ADC, or block an engage in some way. this means this idea corners itself into one of two camps, and there are still issues that are universal as well In the first camp, the CC is Fully blocked from both characters, now Yuumi, by simply existing on her ADC has negated a key engaging ability from the enemy, and now leaves her ADC open to counter engage or retreat, by simply existing. this reward is far too disproportionate for the amount of work Yuumi has to put in. especially considering most CC abilities in the game have serious caveats to their use, meaning they have a higher barrier of skill to be used effectively. Now the second camp, in this camp, the CC is Transferred to Yuumi rather than simply disappearing, in this situation there are a number of problems but the biggest one should be self evident, Yuumi is being punished for her ADC's mispositioning, while I'm sure every ADC can get behind making the support feel the pain of losing a fight due to your teammates' bad positioning, the Yuumi player themselves will feel frustrated, as they had no control over the situation, but, the issue here isn't just that the Yuumi player has no control over the situation, it's in fact even worse than that, see, the control that we give to the Yuumi player in this situation is antithetical to the gameplan of a support. the choice we give Yuumi is to A. Do nothing and eat the CC for your ADC, in the process feeling as though you had no control over the situation Or, B. Dismount, exerting control over the situation, but likely immediately losing the fight by letting the ADC be CCed. Now, the third issue I would like to bring to attention is that of cooldown, exactly how long should the cooldown be on an ability like this? the first thing we have to consider is game impact. So, what does this ability do, and what frame of reference does it give us? Well, it makes One interaction of Hard CC not matter, fully negating it in its entirety, and likely saving your ADC's life. so, in essence, it's a cleanse that you can give to another champion. I shouldn't understate that this is MUCH more powerful than simply a normal cleanse like Rengar Empowered W or GP W, not only is this effectively giving another champion a summoner spell at no expense to them, Yuumi also doesn't really sacrifice anything To give her ADC this advantage. So basically, this can free up her ADC to run a Different summoner spell than cleanse, or it can immediately diminish or kill big engage threats like hooks or skillshot stuns (lux q, morg q, brand q) this means that this ability is bare minimum on par with Cleanse itself in terms of power, and maybe even leaning more towards the power of something like even flash. so now comes the question, how the hell do you give this ability a fair cooldown? the cooldown needs to be long enough that losing it feels like a big loss, with the downtime being punishable to a worthwhile degree, meaning the cooldown likely needs to exceed that of multiple important cc abilities, so we're already looking in the realm of 30 seconds and above, but this is also likely still too strong, as it essentially acts as a free bailout. the number one rule of teamfighting is don't focus the support, so the moment Yuumi is the one CCed and not the ADC, the ADC can zone the Opponents off of Yuumi, or, Yuumi can run cleanse and look to turn the fight around on the enemy, and even if Yuumi dies, the ADC isn't missing any farm. meaning in reality this ability is likely in the same realm of impact as a full bailout, or in other words, a high cooldown ult, (around 100 seconds) so, can this even be a basic ability in the first place? probably not. there are obvious problems with Yuumi having to give up her ultimate for attach, including making her useful in the first place. she would likely need to have attach at level one, meaning she would have ult basekit like nidalee or elise. this would make her even harder to balance. basically TL;DR attach is a nightmare mechanic, it was a mistake and straight up should not be in the game, bandaid fixes all have their own problems.
I think an attempt at a character similar to Yuumi in another moba is Comfey in Pokemon unite, at least in its current form. Comfey provides exceptionally little to any character that’s not the bot laner or jungler, and the existing tankiness of the best junglers kind of decides whether or not Comfey is going to end up relevant in ranked. Basically, if tanky jungler or bots aren’t what’s relevant, Comfey won’t show up. This only became a problem with they released Zacian, who was exceptionally tanky and hard to take down and where Comfey would make him completely invincible. In its current state Comfey doesn’t really need nerfs cuz their effects are pretty weak on their own, instead the characters they’d attach too getting nerfed determine when Comfey is relevant.
While not as toxic as Yumi, Comfey definitely isn't all that healthy for the game since it has the potential to make some very hard to deal with team comps, especially if the overturned pokemon of the patch is a hyper carry. (Comfey/Zoroark comps was a menace then and is still a menace now) Definitely much healthier nowadays though since anti-heal and pick-n-ban exist.
As a support fill player, the fact so many people insta int when yuumi detatch from them is because they didn't understand how strong she makes them and actually think they're 2v1'ing
It really blows my mind how they fuckin tip toed around trying to "fix" her but the literal solution is TO JUST MAKE HER TARGETABLE. Dota 2's Wisp is the best example of this pocket support character archetype. Players are rewarded as Wisp for good positioning while tethered to an ally, keeping them alive while getting healed and getting attack speed buffs AND its countered by literally just focusing the fucking wisp in teamfights.
@@Cricket0021 Personally i'd say Mina from Dawngate is the perfect way for the pocket support. You essentially had to dance on/off your ally to heal yourself/them since you gave them DR but took that damage while on them, and jumping off was an AoE cc, so you were rewarded for taking risk instead of just sitting on your ally being passive.
@@Cricket0021changing a champ from its intended “easiest champ meant to let new players learn the game” to: wisp one of the most complicated heroes in the most complicated moba is a pretty wild suggestion. You’re essentially doing malicious austerity as a tactic to blow up social programs, but for league champs.
I just question why her attach mechanic doesn’t get invalidated when a knock up is used on the character she’s attached too. It’s a knock up make it knock her off.
I recently got back into league after not playing for 10 years, and one of my first games back I played vs a Yuumi. I said to myself "huh that's bad how I can't interact with them, I don't understand how to counterplay this" and I started banning Yuumi every game ever since... Good to see I came to the same conclusion as everyone else after having never heard about any of this drama or the champion or anything LOL
Literally just make it worthwhile to detach. Nerf some of her sustain, and in return make her detached q into some minor cc. That was yuumi is insentivised to detach during trades, and can be punished for messing up
Or she gets knocked off by CC or if that's too harsh, knockback/up. If not being detached at least make her suffer the same CC as her ally so she literally can't just ignore it.
@@Ziggaton My own suggestion has always been that she should take damage equivalent to a % of the damage her partner takes, and also have reduced or no mana regen while attached (with adjusted base mana/ base regen if necessary to make her playable).
Like Empath from Heroes of Newerth, who they ripped the design idea from. Empaths ult would bind you to someone and give them a 30 second buff that increases attack speed and attack damage. Would have to be less in League. Rest of her kit is a wall that stops enemies but not allies, a healing aura that passively increases health regen, and a tether that's a mix of LeBlanc chains and Karma beam.
I personally believe they should make it that her abilities are somewhat changed when she’s detached. I don’t like the idea of her abilities being stronger when she’s on someone. Like the shapeshifter champions, but instead of changing form she has to attach or detach herself from champion multiple times during the fight to get full value. I was actually mad when they removed her old passive because that was the only “skill expressive” thing about her. And I believe they should make her loose value when she’s not constantly on-and-off.
@@yerielzamoraI feel like the easy way to fix is she is hoped off by 2 cc and always take 10% of her friends partners damage but she gains another passive where she gets 20% health regain at all times from her maximum mana regain
It’s still baffling to me that a magical talking cat that wants to be your best friend is the most despised character in LoL. I get that it’s because of her being untargetable but still a cat out of everything Riot has add to League broke players.

As someone who plays mainly Pyke or Braum support I love when the enemy picks Yummi. Anytime the ADC tries to touch the minions he gets stunned, all-in and easy 2 kills. As an ADC, I hate when support picks Yummi because it adds so much pressure to my positioning where now I have to account being alone in lane where a normal support shares the aggro and allows me to play more agressively. I dont see a problem with this champ, its just terrible. Her only strength is imo her ability to snowball any winning lane, which bot won't be. And that was before her change to the passive.
They should implement that support item passive that redirects damage into Yuumi's kit with higher values so you can down her even if shes attached to someone
Because putting a health bar over the carry is a good idea? They'd literally have to make Yuumi just take damage, no reduction to who she's on. That's the only way to balance that because even doing 20% redirect makes every carry 20% tankier.
@@ebbandfloatzel well, then there's a "fun" augment in arena that makes your ally take 50% of damage that you take without lowering damage you take, I always thought that will be a good idea too
@@ОктавиусМоз In arena that works because it's random and not every comp can effectively make use of that. It's also way more casual. I'm not a LoL player, so I don't know why this video was in my recommended box. I did used to play HotS years ago, though. Abathur is what I kept thinking of the entire video. Weird that Abathur is one of HotS's most beloved heroes while Yuumi is hated. Probably because there's a risk to playing Abathur that your fragile body can be hunted down and blown up.

Aba took a high amount of awareness to make work. The skill expression didn’t come from landing abilities. It came from managing the decision making that goes into have a global pushing presence, a global trap presence with mine build, or knowing who to hat and when. Aba could also be consistently hunted by global ults. Nova particle cannon, rag lava wave, illidan hunt if he even saw aba for a split second. The counter play is very defined while also having an extremely defined threat level when it came to team fights or being an oppressive split pusher. Yuumi on the other hand is a walking buff. You don’t have to manage hopping on and off or monitoring a global presence. You just simply had to hop on who ever was snowballing like a mid laner and then BOTH of you share stats. And since it’s that’s really oddball thing riot came up with where Yuumi can convert ad into ap and vice versa, she could hop onto sayyyyy an out of control talon and give him even more AD, give her AP, allow him to make riskier plays due to having a strong heal, AND helping him out with locking down the squishy targets he hunts. I always kinda leaned towards HoTS was the better game. Yuumi ended up making me quit league permanently.
Abathur doesn't need to leave base - they burrow into the ground, and can spawn things from a distance to affect the map (if I'm remembering correctly). That's not yuumi. Yuumi reminds me a lot more of brightwing.
They should develop the tutorial mode beyond intro bots into a separate category. They could utilize champions like Yuumi as a kind of "teacher" to teach people concepts in the game without deletion of the champion and would likewise give a solution for potential future champion mistakes.
They could rework her so that instead of being untargettable, her own health acts as "additional" temporary health that is added onto the host, and that she can really only heal herself. They can even make it so that if she heals herself while unattached, she can get a 50% heal increase, as an incentive to leave an ally. Then they can make it so that each ally can only be attached to after every 5 seconds, so as to avoid her just leaving the host to heal and immediately coming back. Then lastly, add a passive that automatically ejects her from her host once her health drops to 1, disabling her ability to attach to anyone for 5 seconds, but allows her a few seconds to run away and hide. She'll have a very brief moment of invincibility frames as she's being ejected, so just doesn't die outright. Cooldown for this passive would be once every death.
Aatrox revive removed due to untargetable. Despite Anivia revive still existing. Duskblade removed due to untargetable. Then theres other different but same interaction that negates damage. Fiora W, 100% ignore damage. Despite fiora having defensive stats 2nd to tank class. Akali w turret interaction removed. They remove "untargetable" abilities due to how problematic it is. But they are keeping the cat "untargetability" ability. Dont expect any logical balancing from riot.
aimable autoattacks with 120% ad scaling is such a large buff compared to normal auto attackers that she has to be bad in other areas to be balanced but unfortunately riot balance moment they think that if a kit isn't incredible overloaded then it isn't fun to play so they give her all this extra shit like a dash that can go across any wall that refunds on autos or a massive aoe slow and a massive aoe ultimate that gives her statik shiv on every auto and speeds her up. Wtf???? Are they retarded???
Abathur from heroes of the storm is fairly similar but much more well designed. You cocoon up in place and can provide half map wide support to your team, whether its pushing lanes, buffing in teamfights, or so on. Since the support he could provide was only half map, it meant hed have to move away from the safety of towers to keep effectively helping his team, which made counterplay actually a thing for him. Probably the closest parallel i can think of.
Dawngate had a VERY similar character (can't remember their name, but she was an Aspect of Tyranny), how they balanced her was by merging the health pools and when decoupling occurred they made both characters HP the same percentile of the merged pools, if the merged pools hit 50% of their value at merge she was also kicked off the character she was bound to, however she could use this to line up her ult, a 15 second possession. I played her almost exclusively and could absolutely wreck a teamfight, but if I was caught out I died almost instantly.
I mean I’d take that over current yuumi but I the issue is her abilities would have to be pre nerf because you are sacrificing a second support health pool

The problem with Yuumi is not she being attached, is the fact that she can't do nothing if she's alone. If they make Yuumi, let's say, boot off her laner after X amount of time or something like that, they had to give her a way to defense herself, or at least a possibility to escape. Soraka, Nami, Lulu, even Janna can do SOMETHING when left alone. So the main problem ends up being: if you nerf Yuumi W, if you force her to separate from her carry in any way and put her W in CD, she's basically as good as dead, so they'll have to buff her to make her at least competent when not attached (after all, let's remember she can't even buff her ADC nor use her Q without putting herself in danger). And you can't buff nothing from her kit or stats without making her a threat on her own, or making her even stronger when attached. To be honest, I don't know what they should do with her, and changing her passive to what it is now was probably the worst thing they could do, but surely riot knows something I don't.
@@eVillGaming-eng the whole point of the champion is to be attached to allies, so in my opinion you have to balance around that. But i guess if you force her to get off at some point that could be a solution to make her survive at least something
@@rabbgod5219 The REASON why people genuinely detest Yuumi is because she's a parasite, if you have a strong 1v9 champion that's fed the game is over, and if you have to lane with her you're 1v2. Your team an the enemy team both hate her. so she SHOULD be forced to jump off the carry and DO SOMETHING
i think they should make like a set timer for how long she gets to stay on her laner and when she gets kicked off there is like a 10 sec cooldown before she can hop on again
I think simply providing a way to detach yuumi would have been a great way to fix her. Perhaps a sleep or a more rare form of CC would peel the little parasite off for atleast a moment and put her attach ability on a short cd. But I feel like this should have been done in the very beginning, kind of too late now, she’s already transformed the game.
I tried learning league and the vivid-est memory of my experience was me at botlane and a yuumi staying with me up until the game ended despite me feeding bcs I don't know the builds and controls (being new ofc). I still laugh at how persistent that yuumi was at taking care of me even when the laning phase ended. I appreciated that as a beginner, and the rest, idk but I still respect her even when I stopped playing the game.
possible change for yummi: if she sits on an ally for more than 5 seconds, yummi starts taking 10% max health damage per second. When lower than 30% health she loses her untargetable status or is detached from her ally and no longer able to attach to any ally until she has 50%. Her best friend buffs are now base for everyone.
I think there needs to be some kind of reduction over time for each unique champ she is attached to. If she is attached to the top lane too long she starts doing less and less damage(-AP scaling), but once detached and hops on another champ it resets
What if she would be just attached to the player, but could be hit at the same time? She should be able to decide which side of the ally she will stay with.
They should leave her as a separate champion, but let her "tether" to her allies to give them bonus attack speed, and share healing. Oh wait, that's just Io from Dota. League players should just move to a better game instead and stop dealing with this bullshit.
I think looking at IO's journey would be beneficial in this case since it is a support attatched to an ally with weak passive bonuses and strong active bonuses that interact with items, also opting for a teathering effect rather than an uninteractable state. The teather serves as a leash of some sort that teaches the new player not to break it by staying close to their carry.
Make her E shield cost % of her max health, and bring back her old passive but instead of shielding her when she hits a champion it will heal her based of her % missing health. now she will need to keep detaching herself for her to keep using the E shield. She will still be unbalanced but at least with bit more counterplay
@@aaronblasco5190 Make her very stat dependant and it should be ok. If she builds Warmog's first/second, then she would have useless heals and no damage because of no AP and heal & shield power. Not to mention that you would spend 3100 gold on item that makes you tougher and harder to kill, which useless most of the time, since you're untargetable. You can build Warmog's on Soraka too, but noone does it (as a 1st/2nd item at least). It's just weak.
I find it funny that you said to “fix” yuumi they decided to lower the skill floor and skill ceiling and remove skill expression, which ironically, was the same thing they did with K’Sante with his rework.
What's even worse is that there was already a good template for a 'untargetable support' in Mina from Dawngate. She wasn't beginner friendly though, because she had the defenses that were lore accurate (porcelain doll animated by a soul of a noble woman), her cast ranges weren't great, and her shield support action was best used firing her into the middle of teamfights. There was a lot of risk/reward involved in maximizing that character's use.
One way to make her interactif is a way to break her bound with a player, make it that every champion she is attach to break the bound if hit by a cc or something
As a yuumi otp i would delete pyke and kayn. Those Champs are so braindead that they can go 0:10:0 and then penta after you won the tf your whole Team over and over 1 vs 5 half life Team members. No exhaust + yuumi e will help. Not even yone or eve and yi are that broken.
Fun fact, Heroes of the Storm has TWO heroes who work kinda like Yuumi, ChoGall and Abathur, and both are well balanced and fun to both play and play against.
Riot could go the way heros of the storm did with Abuthur. He has a similar ability to attach to a champion and do things based on them but he also has a physical body somewhere in the world just sitting there waiting to be attacked. I remember a lot of games where an assassin diced into my base and killed me while I was looking somewhere else.
I think Riot could fix Yuumi by giving her her old passive back and increasing the mana cost of her abilities massively, or making it so that she can't gain max mana through items, the same way Pyke can't gain max health through items. Originally, she needed to detach to land an auto attack that would replenish some of her mana in addition to giving her a shield. The issue is that, after a while, she would have such a large mana pool that she'd never need to do that. Now they just made it so that hitting auto attacks would heal her or the ally she's attached to, which is pretty much useless after the first 10 minutes of a game. Reverting that change while limiting her max mana would force her to detach and become vulnerable pretty often, or she'd be almost useless. By the way, her passive doesn't give her a shield anymore, it heals her instead.
As someone who was Yuumi main. Yuumi is THE WORST champion for new players. You will learning so little by playing this garbage champ. There are so many easy support champs to play. Yuumi needs to be deleted from the game. Tbh I'm just glad I see this garbage champ so rarely now.
Several years before Yuumi's release, around season 6 or so, I created a champion concept that was a parasite from the void who would attach to an ally to empower them. However, doing so did not make the champion untargetable: you see, he was designed to be a tank support who would protect his ally by blocking damage for them with his own face. Effectively, think of it like a Braum who was strapped to your chest with Unbreakable always active. A portion of the damage you took would be dealt to him instead, and if he reached half HP, he would have to jump off. Attaching, detaching, and switching targets all had a 2 second stun for both players attached to it, making it nearly impossible to do mid-combat. He could also attach to enemies if they had enough stacks of his passive, which was a debuff applied by his allies attacking and him landing his Q. Doing so would change his abilities from buffs to debuffs and significantly nerf the enemy's combat pressure. His ult could only be used while attached to an enemy, allowing him to temporarily take control of said enemy. His allies could still target the enemy and now, so could the enemy team, and his protection ability and fall off still applied, so one team could now race to burst the enemy ADC down to nothing (the damage share only went off from enemy attacks, not ally) and the other team race to try to burst the parasite down to force him off and get control of their ADC back. This champion also sounds busted in hindsight but at least it can be interacted with and take damage while attached.
As someone who only started playing like a year ago, the hate about yuumi really surprised me, because she was such a nothing burger to play as and i didnt know her beforehand. nowadays she's become the go-to champ to play among my friends when one of us is sick/recovering lmao
Imagine being Soraka, Morgana, Lulu main and then released Yuumi, a single champion that to some degree does your job better while being impossible to kill.
i think abathur in heroes of the storm is the perfect way to do a character that can attach to others and buff them, while being attached to a player abathur still has a physical form that exists somewhere in the map, and u really can’t jus sit in base bc his abilities require him to be within a certain vicinity of players with his base model, so he could be safe but if u had a jungle or roamer occasionally go hunting they could take him out of the game for a full minute and the team could press the advantage
I wouldn't play league if it wasn't for yuumi, I really wanted, for years i tried, but I'm dumb, I couldn't even understand what was happening in a team fight, I would just get nervous, scream, and press all the buttons on the keyboard. After she was launched, I gave another chance to try to learn, and it worked. After some time I started to understand the game, learned to play with other characters, and now I play almost everyday for five years. Ofc I spent about 3 months playing with her, only to understand the basics, but now I love this game, and I wouldn't be into it without Yuumi, cause I'm dumb and League is really hard.
And then riot went and reworked what little skill she had out of her kit. I only play yuumi when I’m trolling, but when I would get bored of that, it was actually kind of fun hopping on and off the carry to trade with the my opponents.
Yuumi is not the only instance of a character in a moba that attaches to an ally and is invulnerable, there are plenty of others (i.e. comfey in pokemon unite). the literal only way to fix this is to simply prevent her from being permanently attached to one player. have the attachment last for a couple of seconds before forcibly detaching her. make her actually have to play the game. this turns her gameplay loop from permanently stay on the hypercarry to hopping on the hypercarry to turn them into a powerhouse for a couple seconds, then hop off and fend for herself until her cooldowns back up. makes it a lot easier to actually counter her, especially if you bait her invuln with a fake out.
the easiest thing is yumi takes 20% of the damage of any champ she is attached to, so if she is attached to a tank she could actually die attached, the attached character still takes 100% of the damage as well.
Great video! If I may, I'd like to throw my 2 cents in as well. Everybody hates Yuumi, but nobody LOATHES Yuumi as much as Kha'Zix players. That champ literally negates half your entire damage and the central portion of your kit by pressing one button. Literally 0 counterplay. With other situations, you're given the choice to focus either the support or damage dealer, but with Yuumi, you're stuck attacking whoever she is attached to while being neutered and the enemy being on steroids. It's an incredibly stupid decision too because every other champion in the game when untargetable does NOT count against Kha'Zix's isolation. Vlad pool? Doesn't count. Fizz jump? Doesn't count. Bard ult/Zhonyas? Doesn't count either. Yuumi is the only one that does, and it wasn't even the case in the first place. Back when Yuumi first released, she did not count against Kha'Zix's isolation, but eventually there was a bug that screwed up his iso for everything. Stuff like the mini krugs who hadn't even spawned yet were counting against isolation, as well as plants. Yuumi was also another interaction that got screwed up by this. Everything eventually got fixed, except for Yuumi, and when this was brought up to Riot, they just said "oh that's intentional" and left it at that. It really is frustrating how she's allowed to have such a devastating impact on one champion with the press of a single button. This could easily be fixed as well by just making it so that she doesn't remove isolation. Makes Yuumi actually have counterplay and forces her to make a decision: do I stay on my carry to buff them so that they can kill Kha'Zix before he kills them? Or do I jump off my carry, risk dying, but remove a lot of Kha'Zix's burst in the process? I don't know. That champion's existence just angers me so much, even when she's terrible in the meta.
As a yuumi player with a unique Outlook on the champ I feel that I have to explain myself I used to be a midlaner hovering around Diamond Elo I've played the game since 2013 and would consider myself to be an ok player but since 2022 I've been unable to use my left arm because of an unprevetable accident but since I still love playing with my friends I picked up yuumi and am still playing her using only my right hand😅😅😢
The yuumi rework really makes me sad. They had the opportunity to make one of my favorite heroes balanced and less stigmatized yet they completely, as the reddit post said, butchered her.
The real problem to me about Yuumi is the fact that people have already suggested over a 1000 better ideas than the piece of shit we have right now but riot refuses to listen to any of them. Yuumi is a big problem and everyone hates her and thinks she's toxic for the game. I mean, Riot is basically forced to agree by virtue of the fact they always have to keep Yuumi a little weak because her degen playstyle literally ruins league, so they can't actually have her be popular or else the problem with her becomes exponentially more pronounced and then they'll be forced to address it. At this point, everyone, including Riot, knows Yuumi is toxic for League of Legends. They just dont want to swallow their pride and admit it so they just shove her into a corner and almost act like she doesn't exist.
Riot kept tip toeing around how to "fix" this little shit, trying to make her UniQuE like dude, just fucking copy dota 2's Wisp tether ability. Pretty sure if they do that more people are going to be happy about the change instead of "DeeErH, LeGuE jUsT CopPei DoTe2 sKiLL!!"

@@therebelofchaos1674 Evidence?

You will not learn to play League by playing Yuumi.

she's just really damn slow and buying shoes on her makes no sense unless you solo lane
the most frustrating part about this is, from Yuumi's PoV its not a valid option and the rework further cemented the fact that yuumi has little to no valid reason to consider this a good play.
Man those were the days. Abathur was a lot of fun. I was never about to get the lost Vikings down
It's funny because the first character from HotS that came to mind when thinking about this was Gall (from Cho'Gall), he can't move, is attached to Cho and you can't really interact with him either (not even stun/silence)
Although I've always felt that a good Cho'Gall player would also dominate HotS matches, it was much better knowing that Gall is permanently attached to Cho, so all you had to do was eliminate Cho and Gall would fall too.

This was essenitally my idea for a void symbiote champ prior to kai'sa's release. Needless to say, I'm not a happy camper.
I would hate this even more. Imagine landing cc on Ezreal only for it to not matter at all. Unless the CC is like 5 minutes, this would feel horrible to play against.
the issue with this idea is we are now basically rewarding Yuumi for just existing. one of the biggest things that especially a bot lane support can do is negate CC for the ADC, or block an engage in some way. this means this idea corners itself into one of two camps, and there are still issues that are universal as well
In the first camp, the CC is Fully blocked from both characters, now Yuumi, by simply existing on her ADC has negated a key engaging ability from the enemy, and now leaves her ADC open to counter engage or retreat, by simply existing. this reward is far too disproportionate for the amount of work Yuumi has to put in. especially considering most CC abilities in the game have serious caveats to their use, meaning they have a higher barrier of skill to be used effectively.
So basically, this can free up her ADC to run a Different summoner spell than cleanse, or it can immediately diminish or kill big engage threats like hooks or skillshot stuns (lux q, morg q, brand q)
this means that this ability is bare minimum on par with Cleanse itself in terms of power, and maybe even leaning more towards the power of something like even flash.
so now comes the question, how the hell do you give this ability a fair cooldown? the cooldown needs to be long enough that losing it feels like a big loss, with the downtime being punishable to a worthwhile degree, meaning the cooldown likely needs to exceed that of multiple important cc abilities, so we're already looking in the realm of 30 seconds and above, but this is also likely still too strong, as it essentially acts as a free bailout. the number one rule of teamfighting is don't focus the support, so the moment Yuumi is the one CCed and not the ADC, the ADC can zone the Opponents off of Yuumi, or, Yuumi can run cleanse and look to turn the fight around on the enemy, and even if Yuumi dies, the ADC isn't missing any farm. meaning in reality this ability is likely in the same realm of impact as a full bailout, or in other words, a high cooldown ult, (around 100 seconds) so, can this even be a basic ability in the first place? probably not.
there are obvious problems with Yuumi having to give up her ultimate for attach, including making her useful in the first place. she would likely need to have attach at level one, meaning she would have ult basekit like nidalee or elise. this would make her even harder to balance.
basically TL;DR attach is a nightmare mechanic, it was a mistake and straight up should not be in the game, bandaid fixes all have their own problems.
some yuumi's already evacuate when their ADC gets caught and tell them "get gud brah, i jumping on our garen jungler and winning the game without you"
To fix yuumi everyone needs a morde ult tbh.
probably the best solution ive read
(Comfey/Zoroark comps was a menace then and is still a menace now)
Definitely much healthier nowadays though since anti-heal and pick-n-ban exist.
As a support fill player, the fact so many people insta int when yuumi detatch from them is because they didn't understand how strong she makes them and actually think they're 2v1'ing
balance team is a joke when they double downed on Yuumi, staying attached and being untargetable
edit: I have no idea what's happening in comment
Design team is in charge of that no?
@@Cricket0021changing a champ from its intended “easiest champ meant to let new players learn the game” to: wisp one of the most complicated heroes in the most complicated moba is a pretty wild suggestion. I just question why her attach mechanic doesn’t get invalidated when a knock up is used on the character she’s attached too. It’s a knock up make it knock her off.
I like that point. But I think she does, Riot thinks she does, just still attached to the adc :P
I think stun, suppress, and knock up should affect Yuumi as well. Also detach the parasitic cat as well
Because it would make her literally unplayable and invalidate her entire playstyle. She'd need a lot more changes than just that.
Mord can invalidate it :D total yuumi counter right there.
You are welcome - a Yuumi main
I recently got back into league after not playing for 10 years, and one of my first games back I played vs a Yuumi. I said to myself "huh that's bad how I can't interact with them, I don't understand how to counterplay this" and I started banning Yuumi every game ever since... Good to see I came to the same conclusion as everyone else after having never heard about any of this drama or the champion or anything LOL
Literally just make it worthwhile to detach. Nerf some of her sustain, and in return make her detached q into some minor cc. That was yuumi is insentivised to detach during trades, and can be punished for messing up
They should make it so that yuumi can only attach to each champion for a certain time before that champion goes on CD and she has to hop off
Or she gets knocked off by CC or if that's too harsh, knockback/up.

That would again lower her skill cap, since dispatching and blocking skillshots is probably the hardest mechanic she has.
Because putting a health bar over the carry is a good idea?
They'd literally have to make Yuumi just take damage, no reduction to who she's on. That's the only way to balance that because even doing 20% redirect makes every carry 20% tankier.

To be honest it more reminds me of Gall. (As in Cho'Gall). I think her being released was also very much inspired by it.

They should develop the tutorial mode beyond intro bots into a separate category. They could utilize champions like Yuumi as a kind of "teacher" to teach people concepts in the game without deletion of the champion and would likewise give a solution for potential future champion mistakes.
Bringing old way of applying passive back would already be a big step in the right direction

I was a Yuumi main before her rework, and i have to admit: You have just made the best argument for banning Yuumi I have heard yet.
I miss that game!
I mean I’d take that over current yuumi but I the issue is her abilities would have to be pre nerf because you are sacrificing a second support health pool

You seeing a trend?
you know something's wrong when you see 2v5 but it's the 5 that are backing away

Her best friend buffs are now base for everyone.
myth just dropped another banger les go
I think there needs to be some kind of reduction over time for each unique champ she is attached to.
It may have been almost a year since i've played league but i still get horror flashbacks of that damn cat just wrecking everyone's shit.
Switch her R and W. 1 W wave if you hit then you get another charge, up to 3 the third being the stun.
Make her E shield cost % of her max health, and bring back her old passive but instead of shielding her when she hits a champion it will heal her based of her % missing health. now she will need to keep detaching herself for her to keep using the E shield.
She will still be unbalanced but at least with bit more counterplay

Making Yuumi passive choose one person is a terrible idea bro, it just a buff for Yuumi bots. (current passive of Yuumi)
If I could permanently erase two champions from among Yasuo, Yone, and Yuumi, I would delete Yuumi twice.
😺🔫
Y?
As a yuumi otp i would delete pyke and kayn. Those Champs are so braindead that they can go 0:10:0 and then penta after you won the tf your whole Team over and over 1 vs 5 half life Team members. No exhaust + yuumi e will help. Not even yone or eve and yi are that broken.
@@williehrmann and Yuumi would make those same champs 20% better, just imagine that
Yummi over k'sante? What are you smoking bruv
@@williehrmannYuumi one trick calling others brain dead, I’ve truly seen it all now.
Doing the Pyke passive with her mana is quite an interesting idea
"Skill ceiling" for yumi is located under ground!
Skill cellar
This champion also sounds busted in hindsight but at least it can be interacted with and take damage while attached.
god that august clip, he seems actually so sad about zeri
As someone who only started playing like a year ago, the hate about yuumi really surprised me, because she was such a nothing burger to play as and i didnt know her beforehand. nowadays she's become the go-to champ to play among my friends when one of us is sick/recovering lmao
They should just revert her to her original kit
riot should remove every champion but yuumi from the game to balance it
Finally a 50% win rate.
Im a main jng and I never hated Yuumi until an animal in my team picked her up with smite and trolled me all game for no reason... wpgg rito.
just hate the troll, they could have picked nunu and outsmited you even more
Imagine being Soraka, Morgana, Lulu main and then released Yuumi, a single champion that to some degree does your job better while being impossible to kill.
i think abathur in heroes of the storm is the perfect way to do a character that can attach to others and buff them, while being attached to a player abathur still has a physical form that exists somewhere in the map, and u really can’t jus sit in base bc his abilities require him to be within a certain vicinity of players with his base model, so he could be safe but if u had a jungle or roamer occasionally go hunting they could take him out of the game for a full minute and the team could press the advantage
I still don't have a problem with Yuumi.
My brother once told me that he used to do his homework while playing on Yuumi. What a legend.
Yuumi is not the only instance of a character in a moba that attaches to an ally and is invulnerable, there are plenty of others (i.e. comfey in pokemon unite). the literal only way to fix this is to simply prevent her from being permanently attached to one player. have the attachment last for a couple of seconds before forcibly detaching her. make her actually have to play the game. this turns her gameplay loop from permanently stay on the hypercarry to hopping on the hypercarry to turn them into a powerhouse for a couple seconds, then hop off and fend for herself until her cooldowns back up. makes it a lot easier to actually counter her, especially if you bait her invuln with a fake out.
the easiest thing is yumi takes 20% of the damage of any champ she is attached to, so if she is attached to a tank she could actually die attached, the attached character still takes 100% of the damage as well.
whats the point of being attached then?
@@DoffyDogg lol thats the point
@@ttrop nopers, leecher gameplay 2 fun.
Honestly man, this champion won't piss me off that much IF SHE DIDN'T LOOK AND SOUND SO FUCKING ANNOYING
Literally all they need to do to make Yuumi work as a champion is add damage share.
As a yuumi player with a unique Outlook on the champ I feel that I have to explain myself I used to be a midlaner hovering around Diamond Elo I've played the game since 2013 and would consider myself to be an ok player but since 2022 I've been unable to use my left arm because of an unprevetable accident but since I still love playing with my friends I picked up yuumi and am still playing her using only my right hand😅😅😢
foot pedals
Ah, the original comfey
(Making her less effective the longer she’s attached to 1 ally might help)
This video convinced me to play artillery Yuumi !
The yuumi rework really makes me sad. They had the opportunity to make one of my favorite heroes balanced and less stigmatized yet they completely, as the reddit post said, butchered her.
There are 150+ champs, and you chose yuumi😂
@@ptbro3334 bitch how dare you even talk to me with that profile pick?
I don't want her in my team, the pressure playing when someone could die with you is tough.
omg hey swiftie leaguer
I like how they put Yumi in rather than add wasd movement.
One single change, if the champion which you're attached to is stunned, you become targettable and you are stunned too.
League is toxic on its own let it rot
