After watching this video, it's nice realizing how League now is a far better new player experience. Except for removing ability to "watch high ELO players games in the leaderboards screen".

Remember Fiora? man she was fun. Ravenous Hydra, Statik Shiv and atk speed/ Lifesteal build. Dashing in, using E getting heaps of attack speed and on hit effects, activating Rav, then when the enemy team was grouped you would ult and literally just Yi's Q the whole team and it was so strong and so fun. I remember getting really into her and started loving the top lane. Top was always, trades. Farm, maybe a gank. It's so boring now but old Fiora made it fun, always doing something. i started Season 4, i quit in 2016. i JUST came back. I've played 10 games so far and im liking it again but the formula hasn't changed since i left. it's SO slow and boring in ranked games. Lane phase, poke, farm. maybe a gank, Skirm for objectives and 1 or 2 team fights maybe and then end. the game is now formulaic but i think OG players like myself and others loved the variety the game had. How do you take 150+ champions and make all but 15 unplayable EVERY season. 15 are usually meta and that's it. Not much variety there and then they changed how you lane, fight, push. It' whatever Riot and the Pro League does and says, it trickles down and then Bronze, Silver and Gold follow this formula but they don't have the skills to do that so it's jarring and hard to solo que, Most of the Player base is in these 3 tiers (maybe Plat too) and they don't make changes for the people, they make changes for the pro league. You just deal with it. It's lost that fun magic for me but i am having fun reflecting and seeing the old gameplay. It's great. Now every champion and his cousin has a dodge/dash ability and it was needed but when it wasn't the norm to have it made people ALL in. OG team fights in Pro was hilarious and so baller. nail biting fights. seeing pure synergy and a dope wombo combo was the best. Sorry, rant over lmao
@@Haggis-Giggles4692 yup, in dota 2 it's a huge feature you can even watch pro games in client, shows how bad riot has become. But yeah I watched dyrus run shy top
I would love a league legends sandbox, that has every item that ever existed, all champions even their pre rework, all the game modes, purely for testing. Like how would old Aatrox work with Current runes and items?
had a feature idea back in the day when they started overhauling champs. It was for a patch slider, where you could select which patch you wanted to queue up for, and it would only match you with other players with that patch selected.
I remember when Riot replied to players questions and this idea was brought up - they said it was impossible bc the old files containing the champions programming are deleted after a rework, so its lost media now :( and their abilities are not adapted to current items and runes, they were adapted to the meta from that time. So imagine a really underpowered champion with items that arent compatible with their gameplay So sad they delete all that stuff after launching a rework
I loved the "original reworked" Evelynn. Not building AP, but a full AD assassin build. It was a super fun way to play her. Pop out of stealth with W, hit E, and shred the enemy in no time. Especially if you built Trinity Force, to have some up-front damage. I used a build consisting of Trinity Force, Mobi's, IE (back when it had 30% crit chance, as did Trinity Force), Last Whisper, Black Cleaver and the final item was the original Ravenous Hydra. You usually ended up with around 400-450 AD, and enough armor-pen to shred any target - Last Whisper in its original form had 40% armor pen, and Cleaver had 30%. Combined with a high critical hit ratio with the crit dmg boost from IE (which was 250% back then), you could easily one-shot squishy targets with this build. Run in, kill someone, reset cooldown on W, rinse and repeat. I always ran scaling AD runes, with armor pen and resistances with this setup. I used it a lot when playing jungle back in around Season 4. And for the record: *I WOULD ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT IF RIOT MADE A RETRO MODE!!!* - Going back to the early seasons, with original champions and 10+ years of game knowledge.. I think it would have been a super-fun and enjoyable experience.
I feel like that would be the most balanced for the current state of league. Whenever i play current evelyn i find her design more frustrating to use than any other champ.
As someone who's played league since season 1, your videos are a great walk down memory lane. You cover a lot of stuff I didn't even know or had completely forgot about.
After watching this video, it's nice realizing how League now is a far better new player experience. Except for removing ability to "watch high ELO players games in the leaderboards screen".
I was really frustrated with YT for not recommending me more videos of your channel. Then I understood why, there are only 6 of them... Keep up the great work. Subscribed!
I think Tassadar from Heroes of the Storm recieved one of best reworks, his role was changed into mage dps from support yet all of his identity preserved he even can have all of his old abilities trough tallent system.
The problem with Tassadar was that Blizzard designed him to be shield support whose shield also provided lifesteal to the user. But outside of his shield, his other two skill did not combo with his support capability and neither did both of his ultimate. He felt like a support who was also given a debuff kit (having a slow and creating a wall to block). Remember that he used to have an auto attack animation where his beam attack was one of his lvl 7 talent choices before they changed it and turned it into a part of his main kit. His shield capability really got fucked over hard once other shield supports and shield tanks came in as Tassadar was only meant to give your dps the shield since the shield had lifesteal. Shield supports like Zaryia effectively took over his role and Tassadar was left in a very inadequate state. Turning him into an assassin who provides himself with a shield the longer his beam stays in contact with the enemy was out of necessity.
It gets crazier when you realize how old the engine is. If I am not mistaken, Riot Games uses Surreal Software's Riot Engine. That engine is from 1998/99. I only assume this because the Riot Engine used the exact same logo as Riot did before the revamp.
@@petercampi2840 its even worse than that. the game still uses directx9, has only been patched recently to a fully 64 bit binary executable and has issues using more than two cores. since the game is CPU bounded, no matter how good the GPU is, its bottlenecked by using only two cores of the CPU.
Used to run a full AD build on old Eve. Auto-attack city. Mid-combat I would hit the stealth, and with the enemy hitting me, it would take a second or two to go off, then next auto would stun my enemy. Would raze people one-on-one even without sneaking up. And I got that first skin of hers like right off the bat, the black one. Loved it.
2:18 the footage of hatespike playing in the background is of the second version, not the one the video's talking about. The first version's hatespike is a single tiny cylinder that shows up underneath each of the 2 targets, pointing straight up, as seen in many of the other gameplay fotage shown in this video. And back then the E did physical damage despite the AP scaling. It only turned into magic damage on the version that the AP ratio went down. 24:40 deathfire back at the time was an item with a skull icon built out of kage's lucky pick, and the active did % current hp damage that scaled wtih AP but doesn't amplify damage. It was one of the most underused item at that time, and wasn't a problem with version 1 evelyn. The icon shown in this video is of the reworked DFG, whose rework happened after eve's rework.
I don't really miss the past iterations of Evelynn, because the original version was clearly unfit for the game, and the 1st rework always lacked direction and focus. Was she a tank? An ap assassin? An AD Trinity Force user? She could fill so many different roles on the team and ultimately would've hurt the modern drafting landscape by being such a versatile pick. Furthermore, Riot decided that they didn't want damage dealers to be able to tank towers for days, and I don't think that was a bad decision either. Kha'Zix's ult used to give 50 % damage reduction while in stealth, and this was rightfully removed while Alistar was also nerfed out of the jungle before eventually being chained down firmly as a support following his rework. The modern Evelynn has a solid kit with the coherent theme that the rework lacked, and without breaking the game like the original. As much as I would like to go back and play League of Legends 10-15 years ago again, there's a lot of things I wouldn't want to bring back because they simply wouldn't fit into the modern game anymore. Eve's past iterations are some of them.
7:00 oracles was definitely common on supports, but with jungle being such a low econ role and having oracles fundamentally changing how you could path for ganks, it was very very common to buy on junglers as well.
I'm a meteorologist in the Air Force and currently working nights. It doesn't take me long to finish my daily products, and if there's no weather expected I have nothing to do for the first few hours of my shift so these videos have been getting me through lol
It's funny how removing one CC from a champion renders them unplayable. Pre-assassin rework, Talon's E teleports him behind enemy champions and silences them. For some reason, they removed the silence and rendered Talon unplayable.
Original Eve was actually completely overpowered. I had a 100% winrate with her with a buddy who went cho'gath bottom. As soon as he hit six, I would stun and he'd rupture an enemy laner and eat them with his ult. We would continue that combo for the rest of the game until they had lane-wide cho'gath walking up mid at the 18 minute mark. I would be serving up so many champs to my true-damage-chomping homie. It literally didn't matter what my build was, I was basically just and un-dodgeable stun and armor-shred for cho'gath so I would do stupid things like stacking sunfire capes so they did like 100 damage per tick and then just stand on a guy and watch him run around in confusion as he burned to death.
I don't even play league, I didn't play it back then either, though I did momentarily in a season where Full AP Sona could melt someone from almost full health due to a bug that reset her attack animation when her Power chord was reached... What I was commenting for though was I'm really enjoying learning about the history of the community and game, since most of my friends did actually experience this and it's genuinely interesting to me. Please keep it up! Both the videos about the players and the champions are fine, though I would like it if they were separated into categories once they increase in volume if you continue this for awhile
As a DOTA player before coming to beta League, I've had super easy time with Eve. To be honest games with Eve was one of easies to win because people didn't know how to play when being countered in any way. Would love to have a legacy version or something to play as old iterations of champions, would be very pleasing. Keep on longer format, it's entertaining to watch, take care :)
Sunfire Eve was very normie build back in the day, the real chads realized that Shaco could stack up sunfires and run down with his clone dealing 480 dmg/s, as his clone applied sunfire dmg too. :D EDIT: I stopped the vid before it was mentioned, happy to see someone mentioning this, I thought it was forgotten by players
I absolutely love the long form content. I have been spam rewatching all your videos since I discovered you the other day. Champion history videos used to be a thing exil did and I was sad when he stopped making them.
Just found the Channel and have binge watched everything. It's a new channel it seems but the content you upload is amazing and really fun to watch. As a veteran of LOL starting in about Season 4, i love looking back at old clips and seeing and hearing about the champions at the time and how broken or useless they were. So many people today would have no idea how FUN this game actually was before it was practically turned into the most toxic dumpster fire of a game that focused purely on ELO and the same 15 champs played because it's the meta for that season and there is no flexibility really and you used to be able to play so many champions and builds and it was fun and wild. I saw how the popular it became the more toxic it got and i ended up quitting (came back last week) in about 2016 because i noticed that changes to champions were purely for high elo players and professional League of Legends. The changes they made were based on the Pro games and champions THEY all played. it had a trickle down effect so even bronze were playing champions the pro players used and MOSTLY none of them could play the champion effectively. Easy to learn, Hard to master. Even Pro LOL is a bore to watch nowadays, Old professional LOL was way more action packed and fun. Now it's about your laning phase and CS and a few Skirmishes for objectives and maybe a team fight. They MADE the game boring. This is the standard was to play now. the fun of LOL was the variability of all these champions and different playstyles and synergy you could find randomly. Either way i feel doesn't matter the game is massive and will never not be. Glad it got the attention it deserves as they do work hard but again, i just feel they make changes based on higher ELO and Pro players and the thing is, majority of people are in Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. So most are forced to play a certain way. Rank used to be FUN and you could be serious as a player and rank up while at it. Now its not at all about fun, it's about ELO and i just think the magic the game provided originally is dead and Riot killed it.
@@german-1880 ive played quite a bit of yuumi (i play on a server on the literal other side of the world for my friends so i have an awful connection) and shes been nerfed wayy too hard, like shes basically a portable shield now but the shield is too weak
@@DoggyP00 sorry I admittedly quit for a few years, but Ive played a ton starting in s1 through s6 or so and came back s12-13 some time and been playing a lot again. mundo seems the exact same to me? like yeah he got reworked W, but his E seems better, q and R are the same, how is his identity gone? like old W was just aoe damage and it looked stupid and made no thematic sense, he's still a juggernaut with cleaver poke and big ult regen that you bait low hp. it feels like one of the better reworks by a good margin. I imagine its because his jungle is worse? im not a mundo main, but I actually did/do play the hero some
I feel like if you miss the second iteration of Evelynn, Briar kind of does the same thing. So it's nice that we now have a character who fills that diver-teamfight role now
I started playing in 2014, patch 4.1. This was the 2nd version of Evelynn (the ult that gave her a shield). After maybe 6 months of playing, I had begun watching Nightblue3 who played quite a bit of Evelynn. I learned from watching him, and I ended up getting a 17 game winstreak with Evelynn. It was insane, I've never had anything like that since, and I'm kind of sad that I'll never get to play that version of her again
Considering how insanely popular the SC1 vs SC2 mod has been, I think LoL players would absolutely enjoy a game mode where you can play old and new versions of the same character at the same time
Back in 2011 LoL got monsters: Irelia with her passive that gives a percentage of armor depending of how many enemies are against you, Trundle true Damage bite that scale with AD, Olaf True damage critical once you have IE and my favorite Evelyn Q spam. This game was wild when it came out
Yo I'm new to league n been subbed to u cuz I'm a jgl main but this vid was actually fire cuz I have no perception of old league. Keep it up but keep the jgl tips
The issue with keeping multiple versions of her would be that you’d still need to rework the old version to remove any superficial similarities it may have with the new one. Like realistically, Diver Eve would need a whole new passive if she were to exist in the same game as assassin Eve. It would be silly to have 2 champs with the perma stealth gimmick and stealth would fit way better on the assassin version.
IMO, the complicated thing about completely removing some champs from the game by reworking them, is that some were interesting champs with complete unique gameplay (Eve, Aatrox, Galio, Asol, Urgot) but some were just had completely degenerate playstyle and were toxic for the game (Yorick, Akali, First Ryze, Pre nerf urgot, pre nerf Evelynn, Poppy) while others were just... plain bad and boring (Mord, Sion) or had other champions who were basically "This champ but so much better" (Fiora, Aatrox). And trying to comb through which deserved to stay to some extent or simply be reajusted and others who were useless or toxic to the game is... a hard task and a half ! As much as I wish we still had old Urgot, Eve, Galio and Aatrox, I don't need old Irelia (not that I want the current one), old Fiora (same thing), First Ryze, old Yorick, old Sion, boring old Maokai... Some of those champs are missed because they were unique but other are missed by virtually no one but the one that are missed were deleted for a good reason. I guess a sandbox mode would definitely be super fun but outside of that, for the few cool concept that have been deleted, I'll take the ones that were remade and updated for the better !
Yeah, I missnold aatrox but it really is almost the same champion as trynda, but at the same time some champions didn't need the yorick treatment and needed more of a nunu one
I was a sunfire eve abuser and I still main Evelynn today. There was a minute where I mained old akali too. I’m still salty they got rid of twin disciplines q. Same time frame I played twisted treeline religiously - before the bots made it unplayable 😂 THE NOSTALGIA this all gives me is tangible. When I first started playing on my grandma’s old Dell I never knew it would become one of my favorite hobbies for an entire decade. Time flies 😅
These videos are just as good if not better than Vars' vids. As a new player who actually first tried the game back in like 2013, I really enjoy seeing things I missed throughout the game's history.
I'ma be real i despise the current Evelynn, mostly because I literally almost never see her and when i do see her, she ints. It seems like she just doesn't do ANY damage before having level 6 and a complete item while being one of the squishiest champs in the game.
@@TheJpiscool you're kind of right, current eve has so little damage then she needs to get ahead or abuse some broken strat/item to be able to 1v1 basicly anyone, or gank any lane without being turned on and 2-shot
@@Crusader3454 Yeahhh. I think even having her be camouflage-- Her passive is just... Unbalanceable lol. But tbh, i genuinely do not think i would be that upset if they buffed eve and let her have a meta. I don't recall finding her very upsetting when she was strong.
@@Crusader3454 She's also just undertuned atm because some of her runes were hit alongside direct Eve nerfs. It also doesn't help that Dark Seal -> Mejais has been a mainstay build making her very feast or famine.
this is so validating. I was learning her in diver kit and climbing and then they rip her from me and give me her now and I just never have been good at assassin.
I love the longer formats so much!!! I watch your vids at work so I have hours available to listen :D Evelynn was one of the first champs I ever played. I started in season two and gained love for it about the time her first rework. But currently her live version is my favorite and legit one of my favorite champions ever. I really wish they could find a way to make her a Mid laner. Jungle is my least favorite role and Evelynn is one of my favorites. Sometimes I gotta troll just to play what I want and I hate doing that.
I think something you are forgetting when talking about the sunfire cape build, is back then anyone could build multiple gold producing items and sunfire cape built out of a gold producing item. So before you had 5 sunfire capes, you had 5 items giving you gold passively, which made the build easier to make as you didn't lose gold from selling the gold producing items.
quite interesting, thank you! I played a while ago and at that point I did not yet know I was disabled and my three mains where Sona, Eve abd Rumble because they where not (in case of rumble completely) dependent on aimedshots. thank you gor giving me a blast to the past :)
Balanced rework 1 eve was my favorite jungler ever. You could viably play her as either an assassin with a dfg and a deathcap or a diving, fight initiating off tank with a rylai's and a liandry's.
What i hate the most about the "Newest Evelynn" is her insanly 1 dimensional play - build the same 100% of the time and play the same 100% of the time. Scaling, AP only. Rework 1 Evelynn had like AP AD HP Scaling, OG Evelynn could be played as u liked and now there is like anyone being able to variant playstyles but evelynn
@@theskywalker8416 says who? Riot? We want to play our champions the way we want to play them. We dont want to be supervised, we want to experiment a little. If you want to stack attack speed and lifesteal, or tank instead of pure ap, you should be able to, while knowing all it takes is an exhaust, stun, or an item to shut you down if you make a single mistake
@@MootPotato Who says you can't? You definitely can do that, it just obviously won't be optimal. What you're describing is an issue with the vast majority of champs in the game. There are very few that actually have much wiggle room with their builds, and even those that do are usually just changing 1-2 items out for tank shred and grievous wounds. Having scalings all over the place isn't good for the game and has a tendency to make balance nightmares show up. Evelynn doesn't need random AD/HP ratios. They're pointless traps and run completely counter to her identity anyway.
@@theskywalker8416 You could 100% play Evelynn Rework 1 as an assassin and not a diver. People just opted for diver because tankier builds are stronger for any champion that builds them 90% of the time. I played Evelynn Rework 1 almost exclusively before her rework with an AD lethality build combined with Trinity Force. Once you got Trinity Force and Duskblade, you would be able to one shot squishies quite well. It was really feast or famine though because of the prices of both items. Now, because Evelynn PURELY scales off of AP, I can't do that, and the on-hit part of her E is almost useless, compared to before. I also have to say, the ONLY people who like Evelynn now, likely never liked her before, and only picked her up because of her VISUAL rework bringing even more sex appeal than the original. That was literally all I heard from people when she was reworked. I can't imagine anyone finding this version fun to play compared to before.
Very interesting video! I love to see how league rework the champions into a completly new one and its one of my favorite things in the game until this day
bruiser evelyn with trundle and trynd were the champs that i decided to get out of gold 1. i have gotten there with supports only and a friend was teasing me that i couldn't do it without supports, even though they knew that i was playing top, but i simply wanted to be as chill as possible when in ranked. however evelyn was so annoying and had very good burst and consistent damage. the champion was really fun and could build whatever you wanted. i miss her, but the latest evelyn is fun to me. the all in assassin playstyle is very fun.
I love how nobody ever talks about old tiamat. It would do some 50% splash damage to people around targets you auto attacked, and that damage would be calculated against the armor of the target you attacked, with ARPEN runes it was essentially true splash dmg. The item gave some 50 AD in its final patches, I remember playing shaco back in the day stacking 5 tiamats and infinity edge, using q to engage and guarantee a crit on any squishy standing close to tanks, doing some 1300 dmg to the squishy but 2.5x that dmg to everyone around them, because Tiamat splash. This niche was fun and nobody ever expected it.
Rework 1 Evelynn was so fun to play, her kit allowed you to build absolutely anything from full AD to AP to tank to bruiser depending on what your team needed, and I had so many games where I force fed my team early game and fell back into a tanky engage machine. Rework 2 broke my heart because I'm awful at the peekaboo assassin playstyle. I much prefer when the core goal of a rework is to keep a champion the same but making them a better fit for League of Legends. Warwick is the perfect example of this since he got to keep every part of his kit along with the flavor upgrade. On the other hand as a Mordekaiser main his rework felt like an insult considering they replaced his ghosts with the weakest arena ultimate in the game "because it was too buggy" only to release Viego immediately after.
I used to play league when I was way younger and didn’t really know what was going on. This means I have basic knowledge of the game but absolutely nothing about the meta or strategy, and yet these videos are still really easy and pleasant to follow. Keep it up!
Oh, I played the overnerfed Eve (2011 edition)... and it was surprisingly cool. IIRC instead of going full-AP build and nuking people with Lich Bane and Deathfire Grasp I was usually going for a bruiser build with triforce - it was less reliant on getting ahead in early. Her early ganks were still oppresive (invisibility OP) and you could ambush squishy champs in the late game - Eve ult gave so much movement speed that you could chase like current WW. In high Elo she was reportedly terrible, but in silver/gold (where I played) you could make her useful.
I have to say, back in the earlier dayse there where a lot of people like me who didn't buy runes because way buy runes when you can buy champions. And in season 1 if you dont have runes jungler is even harder pretty much making it so that only the dedicated jungler and some odd bools can jungle witch typically dedicated junglers where not really flexible characters. In that game 2 - 1 - 2 was a lot more prevalent. And the think about people not buying words because they where bad and not really considering ganking, no people alwayse consider ganking the differance is that if you play against a 2 - 1- 2, you can alwayse look at the minimap and see where the enemy is( He the guy in the middle is missing stay a little back).
I remember playing 1 champion solely back in 2009 because I wanted a full T3 runepage I just stuck with one champion I had bought and occasionally would play the free rotation of the week I did that all the way to 30 and around lvl 26 or so I had enough blue essence to fill out a page, good times.
Man this was a nostalgia injection. remember the microwave. When I began playing lux sona leblanc swain and renekton were new. I remember first deciding I was a main leblanc because of broken she was, the silence was insane and it took years for me accept it being removed. Really dug her deceiver/outplay style tho I never really had the mechanics to pop off like young uns do nowadays. miss the old karma Latest massacre was my favorite cosmic dragon, miss those orbiting stara
I said this years ago when she was in her broken state: Her skill curve was the opposite of what it should be. It is fine if a hero is weak at low level play but becomes good with mastery. Eve was the opposite, she was overpowered against low level players and useless against better players.
2nd version mid lane with DFG + Lich Bane was one of my favorites playstyles. Even after her ult was changed to Current HP, it was still possible to play her as an assassin, which was very effective at both picking people from sidelanes and teamfighting
yeah man this was cool the yuumi one i watched right before it too, i started playing a few months before aatrox i think, loved twisted treeline dont play anymore but still enjoy watching the game n stuff about it. nice vid
My first account got banned for playing eve. I was so new to the game and i did not look up things about it on the internet. apparently I just got reported too many times lol
league's reporting system was so trash and backlogged that they outsourced it to the community, who basically just banned everyone if you got reported, but it was still super backlogged so you'd get banned like 6 months later after you've probably already reformed and get confused. then when you went to the forums to appeal, they'd tell you to get cancer and die and then ban you from the forums lmao. it was actually so wild back in the day. i still have my chain of emails with riot support asking why I got banned while the user who told me to get cancer wasn't and if I could be unbanned. They said no and never gave me a reason why I was banned lmao.
Yeah I liked the events that changed the season and props on the map. Didn't realise that they changed the perspective a bit. At least at some point the feel of floating around faded away a bit. That's still present in some rts games. I guess it relates to perspective and 3D viewing.
As somone who's always had a soft spot for Evelynn sin S3, I actually think her VGU was really good. The only think I really miss is running at everyone at light speed to clean up a teamfight, but the other elements of her new kit do a decent job of filling that void. I do also miss the old ulti a bit, specifically how it could be used to initiate teamfights, but that ulti always felt so out-of-place in her old kit. The new ult retains the explosiveness and makes it much more cohesive with her new kit, although the initiation aspect was mostly lost.
Thank you for this video, first time I see someone mentioning how Sunfire Eve did not actually work in a real match. Tired of people claiming that they used to play back then and that there was "0 counter play" against stealth. If you actually played old League you would definitely know Oracle's elixir/old pink wards.
From a players who started at the end of S2 and continued around S8/9, Evelynn has been one of my favorite champs to play. While I didn't witness the first edition of Eve and what she was able to do. I really enjoyed playing her second phase, it was interesting but I will say her current state is perfect for what their vision for her was suppose to be. Also I really miss how close Riot was with their community, it was such a good memorable time that made the game feel so much more personal.
Evelynn was not considered strong before sorakabots smite revive strat, she was mainly considered a troll pick. Even after that the playstyle was nerfed and then considered a gimmick. Feels very weird to hear she was strong when the consensus wasn't the case back then, too bad forums have been deleted.
I remember playing on-hit Eve with devourer, guinsoo and botrk, just like Shyvana, Yi or pretty much any other overpowered champions were played back then (seasons 5/6 I believe). It was so fun, unfortunately they nerfed it to the ground and I just couldn't have got back to playing jungle ever since ;(
40:27 Man, I want to play old Urgot so bad sometimes. That R>E>Q>AA>Q>AA>Q>W>AA was so satisfying to pull off, as well as just poking lane with E+Q+Q+Q.
i miss the old maokai, i still play a lot of maokai but the old maokai was my first main champion i played a lot and i cant play it anymore, i do remember getting a pentakill with it and being really good with it, i also remember MaRin´s op maokai which made me a huge fan of him since i also played maokai before knowing him. Hopefully we can play old champion designs someday.
I perfectly remember how OP she was in the beta and one of the few counter play to her invisibility (and Twitch's one) was Soraka's old Q (that was only usable if someone was nearby). The spell would light up when she was near. I also remember people calling you a troll if you picked her. Great times
Evelynn 2 was the best evelynn. She just felt good to play even after the nerfs to her ultimate, because she made for a bruiser that didn't have to find a way to reach engagement range. Her damage wasn't great, but she was the trinity force champion and really utilized every stat in the game. The auto tracking on the Q made zoning core to her set up as well and allowed you to focus on movement rather than trying to aim a skill shot while getting chased by 2+ champions. It just felt good and she was weak enough to just tell her no, if she slipped up against you. Can't tell you how many times as anivia Evelynn would come up get hit with a stun and spike and then just leave no matter how fed she was.
i am playing league since 2009 i played all 3 (4 if you count the "ward" as a seperate one). I fell in love with the champ from the start and tbh as you mentioned there were a lot of omega broken stuff in the game like stacking dodge just to name one. However, the nerf to the stun was fairly reasonable although it hurt myself and i tried so much until the first rework to make her somehow work, as she was still my favorite champ. Rework 1 is for me personally the best version of evelynn ever existed and had still this assasine potential but now with a way to teamfight and a pretty clear weakness -> her scaling was awfull. This was totally fine for me and i played her for hours and hours and had never as much fun. Her newest rework simply didnt click for me, although it felt very strong at the beginning, yet i felt lost with her and lost the interesst to play her. I am very very sad we will never see the Rework 1 Evelynn ever again, as she was totally fine at the time and i had never as much fun playing league afterwards. Thank you for this trip in the past and spending one more glimpse of what was at the time my most fun way of spending my time. Wish you all the best cheers..
I think its worth noting that she also gets a buff when stealthed. In 2.0 it was mana regen, so she cpuld always engage out of stealth. She basically had no downtime and could freely give her mid laner blue buff.

Yeah, remember Ryze, that had like 6 reworks and then they just gave up on him and now you see him played like every 1000 games...
He's still pretty popular in high elo
He was OP until RIOT found the perfect way to fix him. Just make champions that are more OP than him, so he looks weak 😂
THE PLAN MUST BE COMPLETED

I was gon a say rotating patch mode, but that's leagues regular mode :/
I remember when Riot replied to players questions and this idea was brought up - they said it was impossible bc the old files containing the champions programming are deleted after a rework, so its lost media now :( and their abilities are not adapted to current items and runes, they were adapted to the meta from that time. So imagine a really underpowered champion with items that arent compatible with their gameplay
So sad they delete all that stuff after launching a rework
You played my favorite build! Nice!

Imagine riot spaghetti code being randomly subjected to a character coded over 10 years ago.

It gets crazier when you realize how old the engine is. If I am not mistaken, Riot Games uses Surreal Software's Riot Engine. That engine is from 1998/99. I only assume this because the Riot Engine used the exact same logo as Riot did before the revamp.
@@petercampi2840 its even worse than that. the game still uses directx9, has only been patched recently to a fully 64 bit binary executable and has issues using more than two cores. since the game is CPU bounded, no matter how good the GPU is, its bottlenecked by using only two cores of the CPU.

the good old days
Was looking for someone to mention the original Q lol

Considering how insanely popular the SC1 vs SC2 mod has been, I think LoL players would absolutely enjoy a game mode where you can play old and new versions of the same character at the same time
Yeah. I always wanna play the broken stuff
The long format content is great, keep it up!

I watch your vids at work so I have hours available to listen :D
Evelynn was one of the first champs I ever played.
I really appreciate the amount of work put into this and I'd love to see more stuff like this. I love the types of videos that go into such depth

Rework 1 Evelynn had like AP AD HP Scaling, OG Evelynn could be played as u liked and now there is like anyone being able to variant playstyles but evelynn
every champions are so min max'd nowadays it's so boring

WE JUST PICK BROKEN HEROS
Excellent history. I love these types of videos and have subscribed in the hopes of more!
Thanks - more to come!
I would probably shed tears of joy if I could play akali's version with a blink in her W again.
Nice to learn the history of one of my favourite champions. I miss being able to build AD on Eve 😢
AD Eve, especially the first version, was really fun
Would absolutely like more content like this.
i love your content man ! looking forward for more jungle guides
Really dug her deceiver/outplay style tho I never really had the mechanics to pop off like young uns do nowadays.
miss the old karma
Latest massacre was my favorite cosmic dragon, miss those orbiting stara
I said this years ago when she was in her broken state: Her skill curve was the opposite of what it should be. It is fine if a hero is weak at low level play but becomes good with mastery. Eve was the opposite, she was overpowered against low level players and useless against better players.
2nd version mid lane with DFG + Lich Bane was one of my favorites playstyles. Even after her ult was changed to Current HP, it was still possible to play her as an assassin, which was very effective at both picking people from sidelanes and teamfighting
Yes! I would love to have a legacy mode! I remember playing second Eve. I do think third Eve is an improvement though. I just miss old Veigar.
yeah man this was cool the yuumi one i watched right before it too, i started playing a few months before aatrox i think, loved twisted treeline dont play anymore but still enjoy watching the game n stuff about it.
Yeah, I remember building full crit on her first version. Also fun build with tank hydra on second.
It was true that playing Evelynn in ranked season 2 and 3 was a ban-able. I lost an account pre-rework.
If you actually played old League you would definitely know Oracle's elixir/old pink wards.
seeing the old zyra passiv makes me both happy and sad... i miss my old favorit passiv
Also I really miss how close Riot was with their community, it was such a good memorable time that made the game feel so much more personal.
awesome video ^^ glad youtube recommended it, great job!!
thank you!

I remember when it was a loss, people would sell their items and nonstop buy wards and place them around the base.
Yeah, it’s interesting how sometimes the general consensus is just blatantly wrong or inaccurate.
@@myth-leagueoflegends "why does Mundo do so much damage he's a tank!"
I remember playing on-hit Eve with devourer, guinsoo and botrk, just like Shyvana, Yi or pretty much any other overpowered champions were played back then (seasons 5/6 I believe). It was so fun, unfortunately they nerfed it to the ground and I just couldn't have got back to playing jungle ever since ;(
AD/on-hit was so fun, I miss it
I stopped playing in 2016 but I still enjoy these videos. Damn i remember all the stuff from the early seasons.
thanks! glad you enjoy
Ive been really loving these long form videos!
I'd love to play old LoL, around the time oldest evelynn was around. I also miss old sion and gangplank, and overall, the simpler times.
I perfectly remember how OP she was in the beta and one of the few counter play to her invisibility (and Twitch's one) was Soraka's old Q (that was only usable if someone was nearby). The spell would light up when she was near. I also remember people calling you a troll if you picked her. Great times
I started to play league when Warwick got reworked and it was amazing but I have to say the first time I saw Evelyn was interesting
reworks made me really really dislike league :(
i could see that, it feels really bad if your main gets reworked
I quit precisely because they reworked my Poppy. Man, old Poppy was such a unit.
@@myth-leagueoflegendsbro my mains were irelia, akali, Warwick, aatrox and anivia. Now it's just anivia. Even then I miss her old r
very nice video, i can see the work behind it and have only respect for it
Evelynn 2 was the best evelynn.
"The night is my veil."
I miss the OG
I think its worth noting that she also gets a buff when stealthed. In 2.0 it was mana regen, so she cpuld always engage out of stealth. She basically had no downtime and could freely give her mid laner blue buff.
