- Britain's longest serving police pooch has retired from a successful career of busting drugs gangs to spend more time chasing tennis balls. Brewster, an English Springer Spaniel, served for nearly 11 years on the beat as the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Dog Unit’s longest serving drugs, cash and weapons dog. The 13-year-old brown and white canine, 91 in dog years, was the companion of PC Dave Pert.

Definitely not pure springer. Too small and ears not fluffy. Wonder what other breed hes been mixed with as he still looks like a 7month puppy at 13 years

itcame out like that with the ears and my springers small there's a bigger one that lives up the road but is very well trained
*+Nick C* Mustn't be. Today ESS are breeded in two different lines, hunting dogs with less fur and smaller ears, and showroom dogs with the wonderful long fur and those well-known big ears. I once had a showroom ES Spaniel, Norma-Jean, and man, she was a real beauty! Though, inspite of her look, she was a very rugged dog who loved to swim or climb steep rocks. Once she even broke a rip and didn't whimper, but I could feel the step. Must have hurt her pretty much.
Concerning height, my ESS Lady wasn't very tall, either. She was approximately as tall as her best friend Paul, a rather large Cocker Spaniel.
And yeah, you're quite right, a 13 year old spaniel isn't really old, I know an Épagneul bréton in Luxembourg who is 23 years old and is still as agile as a young dog. Guess Brewster's canine handler was the one who wanted to retire, not Brewster himself . . . ;-)
My Brittany is almost as small and we know she's pure bred
But Brittany is a different breed though. Re-watching the clip, i can see that the dogs been incorrectly trimmed down to lose its natural double coat and shaggy ears appearance. Shame really.
And that body is way too small, Springers even the field type should be longer in size, thats why they're the fastest spaniel because of their long spine
