- 2017 was a pretty quiet year for me in terms of blogging and vlogging, and part of the reason for that was because I was spending time training and playing with this little bundle of fun! Everyone, meet Pip the English Springer Spaniel! Pip is going to feature in a lot more vlogs and blogs moving forward, so I thought it was time I introduced her :)

Can you recommend a reputable breeder in the States, that doesn't dock the tails?
Aww! How cute! I've got one, called Alfie and I already commented as a different account called Emilia Ahmadejeva
Been a Springer Dad for over 40 years now and will have no other breed. Pip is adorable. Cant wait to see more of her. Cheers
J.D. Treadway Thanks! More videos hopefully to follow in the next few weeks 👍🏼🐶
Good lookin pup. Springers rock!
securem3 Thanks! I think so 😊
My springer spaniel is 7 years old, awesome dog! Super loyal. Overly energetic. Even though my springer spaniel is 7 years old she still acts like a puppy.
I have a feeling most Springer Spaniels act like puppies until they're not physically able to anymore :)
Beauty she is! Our Pip which looks very close to what your Pip looks like went to live with new owners in Hawaii. I wish I could live in Hawaii.
My Springer just turned six months old...my third and probably last due to my age...getting old! Lol I love Springers and would love to see Pip have her own You Tube channel. My dog has learned everything quickly, loose leash walking continues to be a challenge! Springers are so intelligent and friendly and so it would be fun to see how Pip progresses. Are you hunting with her? Or him?
Hi Karen! Ah, a six month old - I miss Pip being that young! Although I don't miss the chewing! :) I'll try and get another video of Pip uploaded in the next few weeks. She turns 2 in May, so maybe another birthday Springer Spaniel video :). Pip has had a couple of days working on grouse moors up North, and loved every minute, so I work her when I can!
Pip is beautiful! Shes very well trained. I have a springer, she is 6 months old and called Daisy. I'd love to see more videos about Pip, it would be really lovely to see how you train her. It would take a miracle to have my Daisy sit that still
merlin perry Thanks for the comment Merlin! There was a lot of obedience training at an early age with Pip - mostly sit, stay and paw so she understands the basics. Filming during training is actually quite different as my arms are normally flinging around all over the place, but will see what I can do! With Springers it’s mostly about consistency of what you tell them...and praising them when they get it right 😊
i have owned 2 springer spaniels .they are simply the best.
She's so similar to my springer Duke, he was born march last year. Pip is gorgeous, so well behaved ❤️
Ah, a very similar age then! I hope Duke is well behaved :)
Simon Heyes oh definitely not, but we still love him 🤭
what a cutie she looks so much like our dog that we just lost to illness and she went to doggie heaven . We are looking to adopt a rescue springer.
Awww, sorry to hear that. It's such a horrible time to lose a doggie. But I would agree, the quicker you get another one, the better :). Hope you get just as much fun and joy from the new Springer Spaniel.
"the human's talking to no one again"
love her .so cute
I have two ESPs; brothers from different litters. I named them Gromit and Sprocket and they're my best buds. They are 1 year and 6 months old now.
Thank you for the video Simon, Pips' a good looking pup my you loads of fun with her. Also, the picture of Machu Picchu is brilliant. have a good one.
Thanks Joseph! :)
Aww! How cute!
I’d have to say springers are the best breed followed by labs. Just my opinion!
Hello Pip! You are such a cutie. 💗🐾💕
We had a Springer/Lab mix almost all black, and the kid friendliest dog you ever saw. Fastest dog in the house too. At 14 years, she would leave the porch last, and beat the 2 younger dogs to the back quarter acre of our yard. Sure do miss her.
We have an English springer and all of what you’ve said in this video is so much like our holly. They’re such an adorable, loyal breed, always trying to please 💗💗💗💗
Sally Sommerford They are indeed! Mischievous at times, loveable most of the time 😊👍🏼
Hi Simon, I am getting my English Springer Puppy (Gunner) on 11th May. He is 4 weeks old and yesterday (11th April) I went to see him and left him with a new blanket with my scent on to get used to, as he will spend most of his time with me, so will have a familiar scent to sniff when he comes home. He and I will spend a lot of time walking in the hills as I live next to the Pennine foothills and he will be camping with me out on the moors. At night on a Dog Bed in my bedroom, but no doubt he will probably end up on the end of my bed or under the duvet if he is sneaky and can get away with it and him thinking I haven't noticed him tunneling under the duvet. As I said, went to see him yesterday and I got my first chin lick off him and a quick nibble of my fingers and then he went to sleep on me for a short while. So, looking forward to having him home, it is like being a new expectant Dad all over again now my kids have grown up and doing their own thing, but still living at home.
Hi Mark, that's fantastic! Springer Spaniels are incredibly loving. Good idea with the blanket - we did that with Pip with my scent. Pip stays downstairs in our house. She's allowed up for cuddles on the sofa, but never upstairs. Just bear in mind that whilst Gunner might enjoy the comfort of your bed as a pup, he'll be doing the same when he's fully grown :) Enjoy him when he arrives!
Dog is super cute, man! Hahah. Can't wait to see more Pip vlogs!
We vlogged our journey through Bangkok alleys 😝
Two Broskis Thanks guys!! 👊🏼
She's so, so pretty
She is like “What the Fuck!!! With whom your are talking with?” 😂
I had one that passed away at 15 3/4 years old. I thought I was going to lose my mind. I missed him so much.! Right before the Thanksgiving holiday too. I was basket case. So , we live in Pennsylvania and I searched all over for a pup that resembled him. The only one I found was in Ohio. So, Dec, 22 there we were..heading for Ohio to get this pup. I ended up getting two. A boy and a Girl. The Boy was 2 months older (the one that looked like my Spring) and was Black and white. The Girl Was chocolate and white. I fell in love with her too. There names ? Clyde Jackson and Bonnie Jade ! The girl ended up having a heart valve problem and costed us 10 grand to have an operation or she'd die. But now she'll live a perfectly normal life. I love this breed of dog. Their much different than other dogs. . They even sleep with us! You have to own one to know what I mean. Our Jade looks very much like yours ! she's so funny. They both are .
Thanks for all the comments, and glad you're a Springer Spaniel fan like me! Although I must admit, Pip isn't allowed upstairs, and certainly not in bed at home! Ocassionally she'll join us in bed if we're away somewhere :)
I love springer
My Springer Farley just turned 3 months old. He's awesome
Awesome! Pip is now about to turn 2 :)
She looks like my dog!!! she is so cute
Aww, she's beautiful! 😘💜
Camille L Mac Lean Thanks Camille! 😊🐶
This is a field bred springer. Much different than the more common bench bred variety. More energetic and pull on leash. Kinda high maintenance. Nice dogs tho and cute. Strong hunting instinct
I gave up with the lead with our Springer after nine months old.Got tired of my arms being pulled out of their sockets.Didn't do her any harm though, she made it to 16 and a half years old.
Haha, I don't think you're the only one to give up! Springer Spaniels are notorious for pulling on the lead. Pip only started behaving when she was 18-months, but I had a constantly sore shoulder up to that point :). Amazing she made it to 16 and a half !
I have two Springers and they are the best ever aside from Staffies (they are siblings from the same litter and are 13 now). They love food, snore, fart but have the best personalities.
Haha, Pip farts occasionally too...smelly Springers! :)
Pip is gorgeous
Beautiful dog
Thanks! 😊👍🏼
Ours is called Pip too but a boy! Same character traits!
Haha, good to know! 😊
Pip is a very good looking dog
Thanks Kelly...she's a cracking little Springer :)
Hello Simon. We adopted what we believed to be a 10 week old cockapoo but it looks like we have a springer spaniel. She is obsessed with biting our fingers, feet, clothes, anything she can get her teeth into and we don't know if we can give this breed of dog the attention she needs. We love her but we think we've bitten off more than we can chew.
Hi Neil, that was probably quite the surprise! Springers (generally) are quite easy to train, BUT it takes a lot of time and dedication. I can only go on experience, but the chewing and biting phase goes on for quite a few weeks as they teethe, and they bite and chew things (human hands and feet included) to help soothe the pain and allow them to get used to the right amount of jaw pressure on different materials. Be consistent in saying 'no', then ignoring her each time she does it, and then distract her with a toy, and she'll get the idea, eventually. There's no getting away from the fact that Springer Spaniels do need a lot of time dedicated to them. In the end the training pays off, but they can become a handful later in life if the correct foundations aren't laid at an early age. So no straightforward answer I'm afraid, but maybe weight up any friends or family that could help give her training time, as well as maybe a dog walker / trainer when the time comes, if those are viable options?
Simon Heyes you are so kind, and I will pass this onto her new owner! Thank you very much.
Oh and by the way Lottie is the double of pip gorgeous
Simon, I hope you check these messages occasionally. Please confirm that PIP is a Field vs Bench version. Thanks so much. Super Cute Dog.
I do indeed :). And yes, Pip is a field bred Spaniel. Thanks for watching!
Hi Pip!!! Hi Simon, so my baby boy, Atticus (my springer) passed away a few weeks ago. Needless to say I’m devastated. But, good news? His doggy dad was bred and had pups with a different dam and we were offered a pup. We pick him up next month. Atticus was extremely hard to train to walk on the leash. He pulled and pulled. I want to correct whatever I did wrong right now before I get this new Springer. Any tips?!?
Oh no, so sorry to hear about Atticus :( But great you're getting another little Springer Spaniel to replace him. I think another video is required to answer your question, as it's not straightforward to answer! Spaniels are notoriously bad on the lead (Pip is now a 6/10 at best!), and it does take a while to train them, but generally it is about consistency and quite a bit of groundwork when they are a pup. Will try and get a video up soon to answer your question in full!
Ticking is what spots are officially called. I always thought them one of the best things about Springers. Especially on their faces. Can’t figure why breeders are trying to eliminate them. Regards to all you Springer lovers.
Ah, gotcha :). Yeah not sure why they would try to elimate them - I love the little spots!
I have two Springer spaniel sisters. winnie and bella...they will be two this December
Amazing! I'll hopefully be breeding Pip next year, so might have to keep one.... 🤭:)
Hello when springer spaniels are older how long is the right time to leave them for
Also how long should you walk them for
And do they shed hair 😀
Thanks 😀
Jude Dudley Hi Jude! All answers depend on the Spaniel, as they will vary in terms of temperament and exercise required 😊.
I wouldn’t leave a young Springer for longer than 4 hours, but if the dog is older - and had a good walk - then 5 might be ok. Any longer and they will get bored and a little nervous.
Walking - again this varies, but I walk Pip for 45 mins every morning and evening. Many articles will say at least 2 hours, but it really does depend on the individual dog.
Do they shed? Yep, afraid so! But not as much as some other breeds. Regular brushing should help, and it gets less as they get older.
Hope that helps! 👍🏼
@@mrheyes Your right! Our first was ok with being alone while we worked . But the next 2 ? We left for a few hours and came home to my new recliner chewed on. Their getting better. But I don't think they like being alone much either. We usually go to my brothers to have a Walking dead Party and watch the show..LOL So we're gone about 3-4 hours. the one time I had the bad luck. but if you let them run out in the yard a while and tire themselves it seems to help. I also got these calming treats from Chewy.com ..so so far so good. LOL I still worry every time though.
Beautiful pip just like my Harvey.
Thanks! Harvey must be a lovely looking Springer Spaniel :)
Simon Heyes. Harvey is nearly five. He is my saviour so gorgeous and very loyal great company always ready to give kisses and receive kisses. I used to have a golden retriever but he had a stroke.
I wanted another dog so I chose a beautiful English springer.
Good choice! I grew up with labs - both equally as loving and loyal :)
We get two in 8 weeks, been and met them today, born on 22/03/2018!
What size collar do you recommend for 8 week old springers?
Thank you, Kate.
Katie Allen Amazing! 😊 Get the smallest ones you can find - their necks are tiny at that age. Bit of advice, which you might know already - don’t have their collar on all the time and especially indoors as it can get snagged on various objects. Good luck with the pups! 😊🐶🐶
Thank you Simon! I have seen a lovely baby pink rolled leather one in Pets at home, just wanted to make sure it will fit. They look so dinky!
Pip looks great, hope ours turn out well behaved!
She's well behaved most of the time. Although she's going through a 'oooh look, let's roll in fox poo!' stage, which isn't the best! We originally bought a collar that was too big...the good thing is Pip grew into it, so there's always use collars, even if you get the wrong size :)
😂 lol, oh dear Pip!
Our Staffy dog used to eat the cat poo! yuck! And chewed through a wooden stair gate to get to the litter tray!
Good looking pup. I’ve had Springers since the 1960’s and want to know why the breeders have tried to get rid of the adorable ticking.
Thanks Stephen, yeah Springers are brilliant dogs. What do you mean by ticking?
Ticking are the flecks/spits in their coat.
Many gundog breeders want to breed dogs with more white as they are seen to be more flashy when working or trialling.
Personally I much prefer the heavier marked springers.
I have a handsome springer called Jake and beautifully marked with ticks or spots.
I love to have a dog but how do I find time for 2 or 3 walks a day???
Fairly easy in lockdown I guess,, but depends heavily on your lifestyle, family situation and job in 'normal' life :)
I noticed her tail isn’t docked. Is there a reason why you chose not to?
Hey! Pip's tail is docked :). About a third was taken off. Also it wasn't my decision to dock the tail...this happens when they are a few days old, so is the decision and responsibility of the breeder (new video on breeding coming soon!).
Hi you seem to use gundog training words ie get on and the whistle. Are you going to work her?
Hi Grant, Pip is from a working Springer Spaniel line, and this season she went out a couple of times, yes 👍🏼
It is said in some legends that the more spots there are on a spaniel's nose, the naughtier it is.
GreenFont Haha - Pip has quite a few spots on her nose, so that legend is probably accurate! 🐶😊
I think it’s true. My springer has lots and our Sprocker, even more. He was a heathen dog until he was four.
what if the springer is a huge spot of brown? as in total chocolate colour? is it gonna be the naughtiest in the world?
My dog looks exactly like pip
So many Spaniels look alike right?! Sometimes I can only tell Pip apart because of the little brown dot on her head :)
Did you clone my dog?! Anibell!
levik677 Dude Haha :) You obviously have a cute Springer Spaniel too!
I was thinking the same thing! My 1 year old Springer named Ralph does the EXACT same as Pip. Crazy.
eehmm is he a springer really? he looks more like a french spaniel to me. his ears arnt as long as springers. more the length of french spaniels. but since i cant see her actual size i cant be for sure. either way its a beautiful dog to look at.
She's definitely an English Springer Spaniel, but will check out the French Springer Spaniel pics to have a look!
I was a bit put off buying a springer because they seem to be a long haired dog, I assume that Pip has just been clipped prior to this video.?
Hey! No Pip hasn't been clipped in the video. In fact she's never been clipped. Barely brushed to be honest! 😊. She has a lovely short, natural coat. She does malt a bit, but not loads. Some of her brother and sister Springer Spaniels have a similar coat, some have more of a wirey, longer coat. All depends on the breed and the Spaniel I guess 😊
@@mrheyes HI Simon, what breed of Spaniel is Pip? I want to buy one just the same.👍
@@opoknock She's an English Springer Spaniel. It depends on the line of breeding that their coat is, so best check the parents before you buy one (If you can!) :)
Show spaniels have much longer coats working lines have shorter coats.
Grant Cook Field Springers are shorter coats.
Hilarious, I have a ESP, named Pip as well, six months old. Leash work 3/10.
Haha, standard Spaniels :)
Is it ok to have a springer and go to work as well
Jane Beech Hi Jane, depends how long you’re at work for. Springers do need a lot of attention (generally), as well as a couple of good walks each day. Depends how old the Springer is, but ideally they wouldn’t be left alone for more than 4 hours. I have a friend who left a sprocker Spaniel at home all day, and because it wasn’t mentally stimulated, it chewed everything in sight... 😬
@@mrheyes I left our spring alone while i worked . i left around 7:30 and was home around 4..and he was ok with it. He may have been a rare case though. they really like to be around people. Maybe too ..he was just used to it as we were working when we got him. I've retired since so the 2 I have now? I don't think would go for it.LOL I'm always home and their used to it. I think you'll be ok.
can you keep them in an apartment
Hi Alexandra, I would only suggest keeping them in an apartment that is a decent size, and only if they get no less than 2 hours of exercise per day, and are let out three or four times a day for a wee!
why do some of them have short ears and some really long?
Good question! All depends on the breeders I guess, and maybe different types of Springer? Some breed long ears, some short, and a lot simply depends on the litter and the individual Springers. In Pips litter, half had a longer, more wirey coat, and the other half (Pip included) had a soft short coat. So it really depends - lots of variables! :)
Working springers have much smaller ears than the show type.
My biggest pet peeve of all the dog and pet videos apparently when they become adults pets nobody cares A Dog's Life Time could last up to 17 years maybe longer but you wouldn't know that on you tube
Boy are you in for some fun. My bitch is coming up eleven yrs old...still thinks and behaves like she is two.
Yeah 2018 was good but 2020 is poo
