Mine is 5 weeks old and we get to go meet him and bring him home in 2 or 3 weeks! We lost our old dog in December, a 13 year old Springer named Cecil. They are the best. We couldn't handle not having a Springer and two weeks later we decided to get another one. Cannot wait!
Grew up with a Springer, he was with us for 17 years, absolutely amazing dog, so intelligent and overly cheeky with his playfulness and argumentative nature.. and it was always playtime with him (not a problem for 2 energetic brothers) his favourite toy was the ball, any ball, whether it belonged to us or not.. and he had a penchant for collecting plastic flower pots and bringing in any small bird fallen from a nest, unharmed.. and frogs, always with the frogs, presenting them as gifts and being so pleased about it 😂 It's been almost 30 years since he left us, and he is still missed.. and he still brings a smile thinking about his zoomy, mud-loving goofyness! ❤ Springers
We had one for 16 years. Amazed to hear that you had one for 17 years. He was an unforgettable dog what a personality. Most of our friends thought we were crazy and our dog was crazy his level of energy was incredible right till the last year he never stopped he was so funny so silly he loved doing everything camping hiking swimming I will never forget him I think of him often they say Springer Spaniels are high energy and he was on the top level of high-energy. He was just a goon. We all loved him very much. Sometimes and for many years he had us at his wits end because he never stopped. My husband used to look at him lying on the floor and saying well it's a good thing you're so beautiful.. a wonderful wonderful breed. And he was so funny he loved the family so much but really the rest of the world he could care less about. People would stop and say can I Pat him and I would say of course you can. But he always had a look on his face I don't care about the rest of the people in the world just my family.
I’ve owned springers all of my life ( 39 ) and these dogs were the smartest , polite and most loving dogs I’ve ever seen. Of course I live in the woods so there is unlimited room for excercise and they loved to ride snowmobiles, railroad welding trucks, airplanes, snowplows and especially my late Copper her dear side by side. 13 years I had her. Miss her everyday
I grew up in Boston with a Springer and she most beloved dog by everyone in the neighborhood. We had a small apartment, but everyone in my family made sure to give her the proper excercise and stimulation she needed. She was absolutely incredible: I used to walk her without a leash in Boston!
@@melnee just like any other type of dog it depends how they are raised and what they have been taught. I’ve never had a problem leaving my dog alone , but then again, I’ve always had 2 spaniels( cocker and English Springer) to keep each other company while I’m at work.
I'm on my third Springer now, and they are wonderful dogs. But Will is right on every single point. This isn't the breed for everyone, especially if they want a couch potato dog. The Springer will demand constant exercise and play.... at least until they get around eight years old. They seem to stay puppies for a very long time. And they really aren't the best choice if you wanted a watch dog. But you just cannot find a better friend and companion. They are loyal, affectionate, and very easy to train. And you will never regret owning one if you have the space and the energy for them. I am 73 years old and recently widowed, and my little Theo forces me to exercise every day. And he actually has improved my health. My knees feel better as the result of those long walks, and my stamina has improved a lot. I think he is trying to keep me alive longer. He is the perfect dog for me, but this breed might not be perfect for everyone.
I love this story. I hope you and Theo are well, Marty. I'm 55, we just lost our dog who saved my family's life last month, and I love to fly fish and am getting into bird hunting. I bonded with a Springer named Yoda on a job site back in the 90s and have wanted one ever since.
@@Boogra Springers were designed to be the perfect hunting dog. Of course they spring, but they also flush, point, and retrieve. And they have something called a "soft mouth" which means they don't damage game when they retrieve it. If you end up getting one as your outdoors companion, look for one that was "field bred." There are two types, field bred and bench bred, and the bench bred are better show dogs, but the field bred are better hunters. But both are intelligent, loyal and affectionate, so you really can't go wrong.
My springer passed on last august and was the most intelligent dog I ever had. He was almost 15 and I used to call him, Macgyver as he allways found a way to do what he wanted . I'll never forget this loving and smart dog. All my love for you, Elvis.
So, who else watched this with a Springer spaniel already sitting beside them? I've had 2 springers and a sprocker so far, amazing dogs, so smart (and very crazy at the same time). Smart enough that my first one worked out that if she went up the stairs slowly enough, her collar tags wouldn't jingle and we'd never be able to tell her to get off of the bed and use her own for a nap! We only caught her after installing a camera to see how she was making it past us every day. :'D
Used to have a springer that acted docile and tired in his old age untill you left the room then jumped on the couch to steal cups of tea that were left behind.
Springers appear stupid but when it counts they are smart. My dog Archie god rest his soul helped revive me when I fainted randomly for no reason. I woke up covered in scratch marks and drenched in his slober he had been trying to wake me for 5 minutes before any human tried to help me and he was successful and the reason I woke up without any issues. I don'r care what anyone says the English Springer Spaniel is the best breed of dog in the world.
Absolute truth. It's not a dog for everyone. I lost him 3 months ago. He was almost 15 years old. All his life he ran in the mountains, swam in the river and accompanied us everywhere. I miss him a lot.
@@gavinpoulos642 honestly I didn’t even watch the entire video. All I know is that after owning 4 spaniels, 2 springers and 2 cockers is that they were the best girls I ever had and were the smartest, most gentle loving dogs I have ever seen. Everyday I wake up and look beside my bed where their beds used to be and it’s fills me with such an empty feeling.
These are valid points. I grew up with a Springer and she became the LEGENDARY dog in our neighborhood. some people waited for us to walk er so they could come stay hello. Everyone knew and loved her & I could walk her without a leash in Boston. We did live in a small apartment, but everyone in my family devoted significant time to her exercise- especially swimming every day in the Charles River behind our house. She was incredibly intelligent, extremely energetic in a good way (because we gave her the proper exercise), incredibly well-behaved & just extremely loving. These dogs DO DESERVE a great deal of outdoor time. I can't say what they are like without that, because we gave it to her, but they clearly desire to explore and to run- even just in a yard. A Springer can be the greatest dog you've ever known as long as you provide them the exercise and stimulation they deserve
My springer has lot of energy for sure and can go hard all day long. He also has no problem at all sleeping on the couch all day if I have a lazy Sunday. Best dog I've ever had
yes, i honestly don't get all the hype about them being high energy ... i ve had springers for 30 years once they hit two I don't think they are higher energy than any other dog, or maybe I'm just used to them --- I've never only had one alone, so perhaps a lone dog needs more running, as they're not playing so much. Mine are currently both snoozing at my feet . Springers seem to have a greater understanding of human emotions than other breeds , mine tend to match my mood and energy
We have 2 Cockers and Faith our Springer. Faith and I have a deep, deep bond. It's different to the Cockers. She is needy and loves her exercise. I think she's the best dog I've had in my life. I'm 70 now and hate the thought that by the time she passes on I'll probably be too old to have another one..
I used to have a Springer Spaniel. Dolly was my best friend for 14 years. R.i.p Dolly she was put down in 2010. She was my buddy and I miss her so much. Sometimes I think of her. She was an awesome dog.
Grew up with a springer , some of my earliest memories are running around the river with him , and first seeing him brought home by my mother as a puppy , he was amazing to me very kind and obedient would always come when called never went where he wasn't allowed in the house and would happily sit with you after a long walk Sadly we had to give him away to a friend after funancial troubles meant we couldnt even afford our own food easily
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience! Make sure you check out our video on our top reasons why you should get a springer: ruclips.net/video/ftlH1NOISKM/видео.html&pbjreload=101
2. Springers make great guard dogs. You just need to have 2. When lead dog tires of begging the burglars for affection and treats, the other dog will take over. By that time, the rozers should arrive
They are just the most beautiful dogs - I love my two more than I can say. He’s right, they need company, attention and exercise. They love their humans...
I have a Field bred English springer spaniel. I really appreciate you making this video. Most people do not understand the dedication needed to properly care for these dogs.
My cousin has one of these dogs called Clyde. My neighbour had sold him to her as a puppy and told her that this dog was the "Duracell" of the litter, she was not lying. I have never in all my life seen a dog with more energy. 6 hours in the park running around full pelt did nothing to drain Clyde's battery.
Sounds like the dog my grandparents had when I was young. he ran faster than anything he beat whippets and greyhounds in trial races every time. In fact I he had those eilly elite genetics we all wish we had. He was stupidly strong and stupidly safe on the roads. Spinger spaniels are kings regardless of what anyone says.
@@gravemind6536 yeah my Lily was so fast, but she was also MUCH more agile than every dog she met. Springers run with a kind of bound/jump, and she could use it to sidestep every adversary: even just in playing. She could also outswim any other dog I've ever seen
We call our Toffee “horse dog”. He can scale a fence before anyone knows he is on the other side. Naturally, he returns right away bc he doesn’t want to miss anything!
I love springers!!! I've had 3 over the years. The have one hell of an engine and can run all day long. The are in their element charging through fields, forests and mountains. I'd never contemplate owning one if I couldn't provide the exercise and environments they thrive in...
I've had three Cocker Spaniels and one of them always had problems with his ears. I gave the vet a fortune on trying to help him,but I never regretted having them. All were fantastic, kind, loyal and loving dogs. I still miss them, and I'm seriously considering buying two more puppies.
I had a black and white springer called Lilly she was without a doubt the best dog I ever had the pleasure of owning. 14 lovely years, miss you LIL ♥️♥️♥️♥️
I agree! We have adopted a springer mix into our family snd she loves to run! We have a bike adapter that helps and plenty of places to let her “spring” off- leash. She needs (on average) about an hour of *hard* exercise a day as well as training. She shares the home with my husband, a rabbit , and a mini-goldendoodle. She’s the smartest dog I’ve ever been close to and is absolutely sweet as can be. She is lovely children (we supervise of course)
I have an AKC registered Springer and he is extremely protective of the house. That's the only contradictory comment I have regarding this video. I just found your channel and will be watching!
Wonderful video and advice. I grew up on a large farm with three Springers through the years. My father, brother, and i were hunters then, and we had four run-off water ponds on the farm where we hunted during duck season. (Many wonderful stories of the retrieving savvy of these dogs). As a farmer, my father was in the open 10 hours a day, seven days a week, and the dogs followed him everywhere... alongside the tractor or helping him irrigate (of course!). I loved those dogs. Fast forward to almost 60 years later... my father and his sisters sold the farm almost 50 years ago. I live in town at the end of a cul-de-sac with a fairly large wedge-shaped yard. We've had two dogs through the 30 years we've lived here, the last one being a Spaniel mix rescue dog who lived 15 wonderful years with us. This past year I made the decision we needed another dog... and I wanted the dog of my youth: a Springer Spaniel. I talked my wife into getting a purebred puppy from a breeder. My bad. While she has the wonderful qualities of Springers (the intelligence, the faithfulness, the love, etc), she wants and needs more space. As commented on in the video, a Springer with a yard can work, but we must must MUST get her out three times a day, and finding a good place where she can run is hard to find here. I have a friend with some open acreage thirty miles away, but I can't impose on him as much as she needs (which is multiple times daily). Without proper exercise, she is bored and becomes destructive. She will walk with a transitional leash, but pulls very hard on any other lead. She wants to be working the trail and brush ahead, as is in her DNA. I feel that I have done the dog a disservice by bringing her here, and I am living with a lot of guilt for how our lifestyle doesn't suit her needs. I am trying to contact hunting friends in order to find her a good home. We have fallen in love with her, and it will be hard for my wife and me to part with this beautiful soul, but I can honestly say that this was one of the worst decisions of my life (and, yeah, I've made a few in 66 years).
Don’t give her away. It will leave a hole in your heart. My husband and I have had 3 ess and all loved our big yard and very large pool. We run them in our yard and make sure they had play dates with other dogs. Great with other dogs, we socialized them by 6 months. Absolutely loved kids as long as the children knew how to treat a dog.
@@katharinapaulina2685 Thanks for the comment. Long story short, we still have this beautiful dog, and we love her very much. We've figured a workout schedule, and, yeah, she's gonna keep me in shape. I still wish we had 800 acres for her to hunt in, but we're going to make city living work... with a lot of work.

Had a liver and black white spaniel. They're a top breed and will give thier life for family, when your down they pick you up. Given we've raised Grate Danes, Cane Corso and owned boxer, Australian shepherd etc. Springer is an amazing animal. Will be getting another soon
Hi, I worked in the British Army , training and using spaniels in the bomb team. For anything to do with sniffing or smelling you cant beat a Spanner. Love the videos.
I need a dog that can be taught to alert me to cry small/faint smells of marijuana as I have an anaphylactic reaction to it. My Cavalier King Charles has got quite the noise for hunting but won't alert. Would a Springer be helpful for alerting to smells?
I used to take my springer for 3 long walks (each an hour to an hour and a half) a day. One in the morning and two in the evening. We usually got home around 10.30 after the second walk. If you don’t want a dog with boundless energy that needs to be walked do not get a springer. Water was a magnet to her. She couldn’t help herself when she saw water. It was always swim time.
I honestly didn't think that I would like this video because I thought you would talk me out of getting an English Springer Spaniel, but I actually enjoyed your straightforward approach. (:
I've had six ,three from pups three rescues ,the commando soldiers of the dog world, started in my twenties in my sixties now and my old boys nearly 15years old .I love dogs, but there are dogs and then there are Springers couldn't live without one. .
Definetly a watcher and not really a protector. I remember years ago, when my spaniel barked in the middle of the night, turned out that someone tried to steal a moped outside of the house. However when a friend just walked inside the house without any of us at home, he just wiggles his tail and was just happy instead of attacking the friend. (Which he hadn’t seen before)
I just lost my English Springer Spaniel at 10 days short of his 15th birthday. He was a purebred, which I've heard is incredibly rare and had very little problems his whole life. I walked him 5 miles a day as a puppy and took him to the dog park frequently. We would play games like, getting the right toy and taught him many tricks. One of the best things with him was he was truly my companion. He could tell right away before I had a depressive or anxious episode. Weirdly enough I didn't mean to train him for this. He just picked it up. I never got a "service dog" vest or touted him as such. I did baby him as my first child, quite a bit, but only took him where dogs were allowed. I didn't realize how much I relied on his ability to comfort me till he passed. My General Doctor, therapist, and psychiatrist all agree that I am not replacing him, but it might be time to get another and there happens to be an English Springer Spaniel available. I work from home now too so I have lots of time to give the puppy the training and attention that I gave our last, Toodles. I am just curious on what kind of training you offer as I would want to give this next one the training it deserves as it has been over a decade since I have trained a dog. I remember the things that worked, but I want to give the new pup the best I can. I also have 2 children now that I didn't have before. They called Toodles their older brother, it is very sweet and I love the dynamic he had with all of us.
I'm on my first springer rescue called Drift. My first springer though, was called Solomon we had him as a puppy. I loved him so dearly - that's why I went onto rescue Drift in honour of Solomon.
My springer spaniel is protective, loving, sweet, silly and absolutely adorable! I wouldn’t trade him for anything. He has been a dream. I have the solid black with a little bit of white.
Had two Springers growing up, Jenny (aka Moose Pup) who was much older than me and sadly passed when I was 7 at the ripe old age of 16. (Love ya Moose!) The second was Ranger (Rangie, all dogs get that nickname with "ee" at the end!) Ranger was my best friend for 14 and a half years when passed in 2005, perhaps the worst/hardest day of my life; losing your childhood best friend is a major transition in retrospect. I wouldn't trade Rangie for any childhood dog/best friend in the universe, even if he always stole the best spot next to the fireplace! If there is a heaven, I know you are chasing SQs(squirrels) through the fields and the snow and that when you're down with that you're swimming and wading through Lake water. And of course you finish up with the best possible spot next to the fireplace and relax while getting endless the tummy rubs! I love and miss you still so much Rangie, and think about you every day when I look at your many framed pictures around the house! The best friend you could ever ask for!
They're my favorite dog....she has a bit of diva in her, but she will defend our family and her home without fear.......She is the best. a beautiful black and white...a perfect paint job too.
Some lady once tried to kidnap my dog. Luckily I saw her through the window (convenience store) and stopped her but the dog was already in the car. Springers can be so friendly that they will happily go with strangers when you are not around, cuz they don’t understand that they may never see you again
I have two springers they are absolutely amazing dogs!!! They are super smart. If I were to say one thing about getting a springer......you MUST exercise them min. 3 times a day. Lots and lots of runs and exercise when they are young so if you are a very athletic person you will love taking them out on hikes etc. Great dogs for athletes and outdoor personality types. I love my springers and will continue to get springers going forward they are loving, amazing companions, and when trained extremely obedient. Good video for those who don't know too much about this breed.
My Springer spaniel is a rescue. She has extreme social anxiety and hates strangers and other animals in our home. Outdoors, she’s fine as long as they don’t come near her. She’s also very very affectionate and requires a lot of attention. I love her so much!
My girl is super loving, hates water, doesn’t hunt. Her best friends are chooks. Likes teenagers, gets very attached to humans and other family dogs. She has a single layered coat and Long show ears. She was a super pain in the arse, and chewed bloody everything in site if it didn’t move quick enough. If you have a couple years of patience, they are really the best bloody dog ever. And I grew up breeding border collies, rescued a blue and red heeler and also a coolie. The springer, as much as I love my babies that have pasted, it my favourite by far, personally, smarts, and just that connection you have with them. Amazing experience when you get the right springer to suit your lifestyle.
Our Sam was an amazing part of our family. We had him for 13 years. Unfortunately, he just got too ill so we had to put him to sleep. We were so heartbroken. Its 8 years ago now.
@@willathertonspanielshow6381 I would love another dog. The kids would love a dog too, if I had more space I'd definitely get another Springer. When the time is right, we will add to the family. Thank you for your comment.
well i grow up with a showline springer and now i get one for the first time because they need a lot of walking i need that too that is the best reason to get a springer if you want to walk at least for an hour with your dog then you have the perfect dog, if you want to walk ten minuts at the time get a pekinese
Great to see you really care about the breed and dogs considering the subject. Live in Sydney Australia, had a GSD for over 10 years. Want to get another soon, and have been considering a SS as a companion. I would very much appreciate your throughts. Cheers.
He does make sense. You just have to be prepared. I'm away a great deal but my gamekeeper takes care of the dog when I'm gone so it gets plenty of exercise and "me time."
I have an English black and white Springer spaniel,He is 15 years old and all his life he has been happy and well behaved, and it took my dad 2 weeks to house train him!He was fully trained after 5 weeks of having him,and at 15,he is quite good!
Our 11mo Springer has more adoring neighbors visit him in the garden thru the day. He is highly stimulated with all of the family happening’s (4 &9yo with indoor skate boards and tussling). We raise low media kids and we are all highly involved. Now, bc he is well stimulated (on rainy days he gets massages bc he cannot go in/out all day) and one thing that I read and learned about the spaniel breed & love… they’re as Eb and flow as you are. They will ignite your lack of motivation, however, if you’re sick for days they can hang tight on the snuggles. And their wiggle butt will make you smile. And on the last day of rest they push you to get moving bc it honestly is the best for all! So enjoying our Toffee Boy :)
My springer is almost 11 and still acting like a pup. He is indeed also very needy for hugs and stalks me all day 😁. But he's the most loyal and sweetest dog ever! Just a little human. 😂
My family's springer tends to get aggressive at night or during storms, but we still love him with all our hearts. Definitely super energetic though! When he gets excited, he jumps around while spinning. It's really funny to watch! He's a very good boy and when I live on my own, I'm definitely considering getting one :)
We owned an English Springer Spaniel when I was a 🧒🏻. Her name was Bonnie and she was very protective. She was also very intelligent. She’ll be missed forever. 😿
my aunt has had 3 springer spaniels in the past, and now has 2 springer spaniel setter mix siblings, and all i can say is that this guy gave me an extra 5 reasons why i would want one for myself 😂
I love springers but I don’t recommend them to most people. They’re a bit too high strung for what a lot of people are looking for in a dog. With that being said they’re amazing dogs if you know what you’re getting into. I also think it’s important to mention that there are technically two kinds of Springer Spaniels. There are “field” springer spaniels and there are “bench” springer spaniels. Field springers are smaller and leaner and tend to be much more high strung and active, whereas bench springers tend to be larger, have longer coats, and more laid back and easygoing. I grew up with a high strung field springer but we had friends with a bench springer and he was very lazy and laid back as could be.
I have had Holly (my springer) since a puppy a lot what was said in the video is very true. 1 point I do have to add to this video is As a springer spaniel owner you have to be 100% Dedicated and if you work long hours a springer is not for you im afraid these dogs need a lot of attention. Good luck
lol. My father insisted in getting one and now we have a puppy , wish I had shown him this, she's adorable but as you said, INMENSE ENERGY, does not do well alone.
This is so spot on. We have a springador (black lab and springer mix) and he is sooooo endlessly energetic and craves direction and interaction. However, he loves to explore by himself and tries to befriend anything that comes along. Ha. Great dog, lots of work, so much shedding! Ha
I got to witness a 1 in a million springer spaniel. Mad energy and mad strength and insane jumping and running capability. He could outrun pro racing dogs like whipets and greyhounds and was able to pull you off your feet if he was on a lead. He was just riduclous there was no limit on what he was capable of he died at 12 of 3 cancer tumours which were not obvious due to his soft nature and just incredible athletisism. He was put to sleep he couldn't feel his three tumours he was still stupidly strong and athletic he went out fighting in a blaze of glory. Its the saddest death I think I will ever witness he seemed to young to die and not ready, he could of lived but he would have lost a leg something that would be far worse and tramuatic for the dog given its athletic capability.
Springers aren't dogs by the time they reach 4-5. They're apart of the family. When I was younger, my father decided we could get a dog, and we got a springer. My father did not want a dog, did not like the dog, and was very uncomfortable around him. Nowadays they sit together on the couch, enjoying life as best friends.
I'm on my 4th Springer spaniel right now, and obviously I consider them the best breed… for me. As you say, they aren't for everyone. I've got a cabin back in the woods that my current Springer absolutely loves, but unfortunately she is prone to car sickness, so I have to stop about every 45 minutes on the way, and it's a 4 hour trip. She loves when I hop on the ATV or mountain bike and take her for runs in the woods. She'll run halfway down my driveway turn around and stand there and look at me and bark at me as if to say "Come on, let's go!" I also live in an area where there are numerous dog parks to take dogs to although I don't utilize those, I prefer the woodlands that are publicly owned. That way I can put my mountain bike in my trunk and drive to where I can give her a true workout.
This video is right on the money. I own my first two springers and they are different than any other dog. Clingyness with my male is crazy and my female is super sensitive when she gets in trouble. The hair is everywhere!! Although I love both of my dogs, I don’t recommend a springer to just anyone. Good content, thank you
My springer Fritz is too smart for his own good, he can count, he can tell time, he knows spelling, and he is always a happy go lucky goofer with tons of energy. His trademark is that his tail always wagging a million miles an hour.
It's the spelling that gets me! You think you're being clever spelling out where you're going so they don't start getting over excited - but no - they've bloody worked out what the spellings sound like too :'D
I've had three springers and one brittany. All loved working and were extremely affectionate. But yeah as the kids these days would say, they are "a lot".
Best dog that has ever owned me. Absolutely amazing dogs and so loyal, like any dog they need training, stimulation, exercise and your head to sleep on🤣. Onto my 2nd
We are on our second Springer, great family pets, wonderfull companions, the second one is a bit young, but the first was the best watchdog we ever had.Sure they need a lot of exercise, but that is fine as we live a very active lifestyle, and have a large back yard.
I have had 3 springers in my life so far and all of them are are/were very territorial. They were all ok with strangers only after I introduced them and aggressive towards anyone approaching their territory without my presence. They aren't good guard dogs if you think they will attack but will put the fear of god into anyone with packages from Amazon.
I have two springers, one 8 months the other 2 years and they are the super chill. However, the breeder I use has higher and lower energy males and females she uses. I chose lower energy parents that passed down these traits. They look like field springers but are very lazy. This is super helpful with rainy PNW winters.
I have a Springer cross named Bonnie. I got her from a shelter so I'm not sure what she's crossed with. I think Pointer, her vet thinks Setter. She's quite small, 14 kgs. She's very sweet, loving and smart. She's also super clingy, energetic and stubborn. She craves attention from everyone even though she's with me for most of the day. It hasn't been the easiest task to train her and at 1+ years old we're still not there. She keeps jumping on people even though she knows the command down/off and she pulls like crazy on walks. If someone tries to take her away from me she grabs onto my leg and clings on for dear life. I love her to bits and it's probably my fault for indulging too much. My previous Springer, Missy (also from a shelter) was much more mild mannered. Granted she was a senior, I got her when she was 7 and was much easier to train. She spent most of her life in a cage (hunting dog in Cyprus) and bred multiple times. She had zero training when she came to me but she was house trained and learned to properly walk on a leash very easily. I just wish I'd had them both at the same time. Anyway, I'm rambling. Any tips for easier training?

I've got 2 springers one won't leave my side but the one is always doing something they have never destroyed my property best dogs ever you just need to walk them alot
My advice is if you want a springer make sure you have enough space for them to run around, get two they keep each other company and their playing makes them mind better, these dogs are high energy and love to work so you need to also.
i have a springer and i only have one warning. as far as mine goes, she is virtually indestructible. my idiot has had brillo TWICE, brownies, a whole chicken, onions, and whatever she finds outside. if she’s limping for some reason, more often than not she’s over it in just a few minutes (depending on the severity, we do make her lay down and rest and then go from there) as far as i can remember, it’s never led to an emergency vet visit. she’s slammed her head against walls while playing, taken tumbles, whatever. she’s 9 and a half and acts like a 5 year old. maybe younger. she’s got energy, spunk, and still the same amount of mobility. she’s also had some medical issues and nothing can beat this dog. she’s amazing and i wouldn’t exchange her for the world. she’s a field line springer spaniel. so yeah, she’s virtually indestructible so if you’re thinking of getting one, and i can’t speak for the rest, but if they’re anything like her, keep that in mind. cheers!
Were they all loving? We got one when he was older. He was territorial. He bit a neighbor. The last Spaniel I had was good as gold. Best dog in the world.
My springer Boone is a great dog, best dog I have ever been around or had, he is friendly loyal and easy to train, and he is great for my young boys, he is very sensitive though and can be a level 22 clinger. I do let him run around as much as possible but like all hound dogs he sometimes will follow the scent and get into a trance and not hear my commands at first (trying to work on that more) but 95% of the time or more it only takes two or three times to call him back. Oh and he absolutely hates cats, like I’ve never seen a dog hate a cat as much as he does lol.
My last Springer who has passed a good few years ago he was very affectionate to everyone and every dog he met . But when the postman decided he would just walk in my house because i didn't hear him knocking and try and put a parcel on the kitchen table my Max pinned him to the wall haha. I was shocked as i never thought he would do that but like i told the postman you are an intruder and he stopped you, you had no right to be in my house unless i invite you in , He had a steak for dinner that night :) . Ive had springers for over 30 yrs they are the best breed to own but you do need to do research to truly understand their needs a lot get rehomed within the first two years because people can't cope with them .They need training , socialising and above all people who really understand them. Ive sadly had to have my Jasmine put to sleep a month ago and it's beyond devastating to loose them and my Jake is also missing her so much as they were extremely close so extra cuddles and sharing memories together is a good part of our day along with long walks at his favorite places .x
Too late, he’s sleeping beside me right now
Mine is currently attacking a pillow as I type this.
I always take my Springer spaniel to the mountains
btw he broke my Xbox 1 controller 😐😑😐 R.I.P CONTROLLER
@@kormeeracomerfordkeane3053...I feel ya, I have lost 2 remotes and many pairs of flip flops to this bum
Yep I’m getting mine in three weeks
Grew up with a Springer, he was with us for 17 years, absolutely amazing dog, so intelligent and overly cheeky with his playfulness and argumentative nature.. and it was always playtime with him (not a problem for 2 energetic brothers) his favourite toy was the ball, any ball, whether it belonged to us or not.. and he had a penchant for collecting plastic flower pots and bringing in any small bird fallen from a nest, unharmed.. and frogs, always with the frogs, presenting them as gifts and being so pleased about it 😂
It's been almost 30 years since he left us, and he is still missed.. and he still brings a smile thinking about his zoomy, mud-loving goofyness!
❤ Springers
17!?!?!? Holy CRAP. We had 2, one made 13, the other was 14 and half. 17 is abnormal
I hear a lot about not leaving them alone. Is going to work for 8 hrs ok?
Hi. I keep reading about how sprockers can be crazy. Thinking of getting one. May you please describe the crazy?
Used to have a springer that acted docile and tired in his old age untill you left the room then jumped on the couch to steal cups of tea that were left behind.
Springers appear stupid but when it counts they are smart. My dog Archie god rest his soul helped revive me when I fainted randomly for no reason. I woke up covered in scratch marks and drenched in his slober he had been trying to wake me for 5 minutes before any human tried to help me and he was successful and the reason I woke up without any issues. I don'r care what anyone says the English Springer Spaniel is the best breed of dog in the world.
Me🙋♀️
Mines sitting with me in my memories
Absolute truth. It's not a dog for everyone. I lost him 3 months ago. He was almost 15 years old. All his life he ran in the mountains, swam in the river and accompanied us everywhere. I miss him a lot.
Love is... being owned by a Springer Spaniel. Best dog we've ever owned.
I have a female. She is just amazing
Yessss. Miss my baby sooo much. 13 years I had her.
@@gavinpoulos642 I miss my girl so much. I gotta go cry now.
@@gavinpoulos642 exactly. Cheers bud.
I had a springer crossed with a pointer and he was the most relaxed, easily going dog Iv ever known. I miss my furry couch potato 😔
My springer lucy is the best behaved most loyal dog i’ve ever had, i cant imagine life without her.
I have one named Winnie but a doberman named Lucy
The geezer presenting this is a busy TWAT.🙄
My first Springer was named Rosie I've had three more since she passed most comforting, loyal fun and beautiful dog
I used to have a Springer Spaniel. Dolly was my best friend for 14 years. R.i.p Dolly she was put down in 2010. She was my buddy and I miss her so much. Sometimes I think of her. She was an awesome dog.
Grew up with a springer , some of my earliest memories are running around the river with him , and first seeing him brought home by my mother as a puppy , he was amazing to me very kind and obedient would always come when called never went where he wasn't allowed in the house and would happily sit with you after a long walk
Sadly we had to give him away to a friend after funancial troubles meant we couldnt even afford our own food easily
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience! Make sure you check out our video on our top reasons why you should get a springer: ruclips.net/video/ftlH1NOISKM/видео.html&pbjreload=101
I'm so sorry to hear that. At least you gave him the love he deserved for that long
I don't think anyone would get a Springer for "protection" but they are absolutely amazing watch dogs. If someone comes to the house you WILL know it.
So what is the perfect dog we "should" get?? Sounds like the ideal dog to me, affectionate and loyal!
If you don't have time to make sure you run them, and I mean run, you will 1000% run into problems.
@@winterassassin22 i feel like that’s with any working dog
2. Springers make great guard dogs. You just need to have 2. When lead dog tires of begging the burglars for affection and treats, the other dog will take over. By that time, the rozers should arrive
i have two springers and a staffy... the staff looks fierce but she's just as bad for cuddles and treats as the springers haha
They are just the most beautiful dogs - I love my two more than I can say. He’s right, they need company, attention and exercise. They love their humans...
I have a Field bred English springer spaniel. I really appreciate you making this video. Most people do not understand the dedication needed to properly care for these dogs.
You forgot the real #1 reason...you should get an American Brittany...but I might be biased. ☺
We would go canoeing and my Lily would just jump out and swim beside the canoe for up to an hour without even wanting a break
Love my two nutter springers! They are a handful and would be quite difficult for first time dog owners.
My family grew up with these dogs. The earliest memory I have of dogs was my grandparents Springer and these are easily my favorite.
We brought our little girl home two weeks ago and she's been such a joy. Turned 11 weeks on Christmas Eve.
Hope all is going well with getting her settled!
They can be very demanding of attention but they will worship the ground you walk on.
Respect for your honesty and self-reflection
@@katharinapaulina2685 Thanks for the comment. Long story short, we still have this beautiful dog, and we love her very much. We've figured a workout schedule, and, yeah, she's gonna keep me in shape. I still wish we had 800 acres for her to hunt in, but we're going to make city living work... with a lot of work.

Hi, I worked in the British Army , training and using spaniels in the bomb team.
For anything to do with sniffing or smelling you cant beat a Spanner.
Love the videos.
Thanks so much Martyn, glad you like our videos ❤️
Thatscwhat in thought but the springers I know run right past the ball time and time again 😃
How do you hold down a job while talking for 4.5 hours a day?
@@Monkeyseemonkey79
first walk 6am -7.30
Second ~5.45pm-7.30pm
Then 9pm-10 or 10.30.
Flexibility here and there.
What is wrong with that?
I'm on my 6th springer rescue I love them :)
Absolutely stunning dog, I love spaniels because of their long ears
The two we’ve had have been laid back indoors but brilliantly active out on walks, could never have another breed.
Soon to be getting another pup.
Can you leave them alone?
Same as mine. It’s like he knows to be calm in the house and then when he’s out that’s his time to let lose and have fun.
Yes, ours is like this.
Lmao my springer's tail is always going 500mph when hes hunting 😫 its cute as shit
Hah! Mine too! And his little bum wiggle is hilarious 🤣
So sorry to hear this Joanne, hopefully one day you can look at welcoming another dog into your home

Omg that sounds amazing I love springers how is he doing now?
What a terrific video. Like others I watched it with my latest pup sleeping in my legs.
Have had 2 Springers. Require lots of attention, can easily learn many verbal and hand commands, love to ride in the car. Good with kids
I just got a springer a couple months ago he is such a joy To be with he so smart and cheeky but so cute
You described my Springer Spaniel perfectly! Have you met her??? LOL
Thanks you for all the great info!
I grew up with a high strung field springer but we had friends with a bench springer and he was very lazy and laid back as could be.
this explains a lot.... i think i must have always had the bench type as all my springers have been calm and laid back ..
I had one for 16 and a half years. Not a working dog, but was a star in the bush and water,
We have had 8 since 1994. Always loved my springers & miss them
Sir- Your a great speaker and communicator
I have had Holly (my springer) since a puppy a lot what was said in the video is very true. 1 point I do have to add to this video is As a springer spaniel owner you have to be 100% Dedicated and if you work long hours a springer is not for you im afraid these dogs need a lot of attention. Good luck
lol. My father insisted in getting one and now we have a puppy , wish I had shown him this, she's adorable but as you said, INMENSE ENERGY, does not do well alone.
Excellent video,great to watch.
This is so spot on. We have a springador (black lab and springer mix) and he is sooooo endlessly energetic and craves direction and interaction. However, he loves to explore by himself and tries to befriend anything that comes along. Ha. Great dog, lots of work, so much shedding! Ha
Everything that you stated in the video was absolutely on point. I loved my Springer and I loved working and playing with him every day.
This is fantastic advice so entertainingly put
Thank so much Martin, glad you enjoyed our video!
These reasons are the perfect reasons to get the breed as a pysch SD lmaoo
Good content, thank you
There is nothing better to wake up to than sweet Springer kisses.🐾✨❤️✨🐾
My own springer isn't one for kisses or cuddling 😂 I'll maybe get one kiss in the morning but that's just her haha
My springer Fritz is too smart for his own good, he can count, he can tell time, he knows spelling, and he is always a happy go lucky goofer with tons of energy. His trademark is that his tail always wagging a million miles an hour.
Haha!!
Onto my 2nd
Couldn't agree more!
Hahahaha
My old springer was perfectly fine with any car going by except for the ups man
Never had an issue with the shedding. I clip my E.S.S. every few months. Not really a problem.

I love my Springer Spaniel, best dog I’ve ever owned ❤️ they are so incredible
SPRINGERS ARE ONE OF THE BEST DOGS EVER!
Well you better check out our reasons as to why you should get a springer spaniel: ruclips.net/video/ftlH1NOISKM/видео.html&pbjreload=101
I already know all the reasons
I’ve had four best dogs ever. I will always love every single one I had Jenny, Jack, Jake and Jasmine.
My advice is if you want a springer make sure you have enough space for them to run around, get two they keep each other company and their playing makes them mind better, these dogs are high energy and love to work so you need to also.
i have a springer and i only have one warning. as far as mine goes, she is virtually indestructible. my idiot has had brillo TWICE, brownies, a whole chicken, onions, and whatever she finds outside. if she’s limping for some reason, more often than not she’s over it in just a few minutes (depending on the severity, we do make her lay down and rest and then go from there) as far as i can remember, it’s never led to an emergency vet visit. she’s slammed her head against walls while playing, taken tumbles, whatever. she’s 9 and a half and acts like a 5 year old. maybe younger. she’s got energy, spunk, and still the same amount of mobility. she’s also had some medical issues and nothing can beat this dog. she’s amazing and i wouldn’t exchange her for the world. she’s a field line springer spaniel. so yeah, she’s virtually indestructible so if you’re thinking of getting one, and i can’t speak for the rest, but if they’re anything like her, keep that in mind. cheers!
I love my springers I've had 4 and each one acted differently
I have two of them, one of my favorite dog breeds
U r bang on ... each point is soo true
Thanks so much, glad you found it interesting!
