I have followed Alan 's film work and also his theater work since I was very young . My two oldest children grew up watching Harry Potter and growing up with it. I live in Italy and have often stayed in the same village where Alan and Rima had (but I believe it is still owned by Rima) a big house. Alan loved coming to this place and was often in the small square with his tablet, sitting at a table..very discreet..you could meet him and for him it was as if there was no difference.he was very humble. I myself also saw it at the Roman theater in Volterra in 2010. helpful and very attentive ..loved Shakespeare even acted in Italian. He was a very lovable person and very funny. I can say this because, at times, in the little square he would tell anecdotes to friends and I would indirectly listen from my table. No one disturbed him, we all respected him and his privacy. his death shocked me .. too premature, but I had the opportunity to give a small gift to this great actor: two days after his death, my third child was born, I named him Alan .. in honor of him, and in remembrance of him.
No Rima didn't keep his dream home, where his precious ashes are buried! She didn't want it. He willed it to his niece Sarah, his brother David's daughter.
Unfortunately she didn't love him as much . Didn't want to have his children, never wore the wedding ring he bought her, didn't take his name. If Alan was in her place he would have done all of the above for her . But the greatest disrespect to his memory was publishing his private diaries. There have been unfounded rumors about his sexual orientation that arose from a specific entry about his movie "Dark Harbor". Nobody had noticed the kissing scene between Alan and Norman Reedus until they read that specific entry in the diaries and started to talk about a man with a double life, when there is no evidence of that. All because of the diaries. Even if Alan intended to have them published,it should have been his decision when to do it and what to put in it,not someone else's.
@user-pg7bl8bv1j Sorry, I just found your question. You need to know one thing so you can understand why I know this. I was born legally blind. Totally blind in my right eye. Without my contact in my good eye. I can only see clearly an inch from my nose. This eye does aches. I am registered with the blind association of America. Thus, I am aloud to get talking books from the Library for the blind. Years ago my mum purchased from a books some audio books. Funnily enough, I was listening to one of the books already. I thought I would listen to the audio. That way I could return the blind book to the library. I started the audio from the beginning. It didn't take long for me to notice that something was wrong. The whole book was not being read. Chucks were missing. I looked at the package and there was a number to call. Besides being very rude and down right nasty. I was told that they cut out things they deem unimportant in the book. I refuse to buy audio books. This may or may not be the reason you can't find it. It is merely my experience. I wish I could be of more help.
She proved that she didn't love him at all . Denied him kids and a dog. Never wore his wedding ring or took his name. They could have adopted a child if she wasn't able to carry one but she didn't want to share him with anyone, not even with a dog. He would have been happier and healthier if he had a family to come home to,but he continued to work on project after project until his death . The biggest insult to his memory was publishing his private diaries without his consent. The editor confirms that in the foreword. Plus his godson Tom Burke states in the Guardian's interview that Alan wouldn't write a memoir because as he said "I know myself and I 'm not interested". That book caused a lot of his fans to make false assumptions about Alan's character and his life, for which he can't defend himself. Alan ALWAYS put his wife's wishes first at the expense of his own and she tarnished his memory. Poor man he got short-handed and he deserved the world.
@@Libra-v1r You believe everything put on here because it's true. Alan had no problem telling people to go feck themselves. His best best Emma and Ruby. Have vouched for Rima. I'm also been with the same man for 37 years. Your jealously shows at this very sad.

I miss him so much. I bought the book, it's a little part of him, thanks to his widow to share it with us. No doubt, it was done with his permission. I can’t imagine how much Rima Horton Rickman must miss him. Our love is extraordinary; 50 years imagine! Alan Rickman was a great actor, my favorite actor. He was a really good person. So charismatic, polite and kind to everyone. He’s the reason I watched the Harry Potter movies. 'cause he was in it. (and then I became a fan of HP, especially of cause Snape, the most complex and interesting character what a masterfull interpretation! He deserve more place in HP movies. For me, Alan will be Snape forever , he is irreplaceable ) . My thoughts are with his widow, who must continue without him, it must be so hard for her. We lost our favorite actor, she, she lost the man of her life, her great love. I'll never forget him. ( sorry for my bad english , I'm french ...)
Amen. And if you haven't already seen Galaxy Quest, you should absolutely do so. He is dryly hilarious but also touching as the frustrated Shakespearean actor turned pigeonholed Star-Trek-type TV star.
That are my thoughts completely. I first saw him in HP and since then followed him more avid than a drug dog! No, I didn't trespass his privacy, but I went to Dublin for Borkman and watched the play he directed in London and so on. And in one direction or another he WAS the love of my life, because I never had the same crush on anybody else. And my husband knew, of course. Alan was the very best and the epitome of intelligence, wit, earnestness and warmth.
@@serendipityshopnyc in one of the tributes Patrick Breen (played Quellek) told that Allan Rickman was visiting him 6 weeks before his death when Breen had a premiere. He looked ill but told that he is fine and nobody should worry. Such a thoughtful person who took care of his collegues.
Hi Estelle D.! This American thinks your English is excellent. No worries! I knew of Alan Rickman from previous works but (this is a bit embarrassing to admit) not his name until the Potter movie series. His portrayal of Snape was so stunning I simply had to take note. We were all lucky to have dear Mr. Rickman; fortunately for us, he is on film (streaming!) in perpetuity. I will check out the book! Je regrette, mon Francaise est terrible. Adieu, mon ami!
@carolyn ellis Wiki has some interesting details about this 1991 Robin Hood film. That Alan kept knocking back the role until they agreed to let him do whatever he wanted with the Sheriff part. And that Kevin Costner, playing Robin, may not have appreciated being acted off the screen by one A. Rickman. I think he may have received a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for this role. His acceptance speech mentioned not to underestimate the value in over exaggerating and over-playing your character !😃
All I had to do was Google whether Alan wanted to have his diaries published I am very disappointed with what I read. Have recently discovered this actor looks like he was a decent guy and had a big heart.
From Shakespeare to Truly Madly deeply to Die hard to Love Actually to Harry Potter the list goes on and on.., ...,. One of the most talented actors to have ever lived. RIP
I am not an actor watcher but when Alan Rickman was on the screen, I became one. He was so gifted as an actor and from what I hear about him now, as a person. I am certain his wife Rima was that component that centered him and gave him the confidence to live his thespian life with ease. So, thank you, Rima.
About 20 years ago, Mr Rickman was a passenger on an Air Canada flight I was working from Calgary to London. I still remember the seat he sat in. Never wanting to bother celebrities onboard, I said nothing, but could barely contain my excitement just hearing his voice. As it was a late departure, he slept all the way across the pond. I tucked a little note on the armrest saying how much I'd admired his role in Sense & Sensibility and signed it 'One of the FAs onboard', hoping he'd read it when he woke. He deplaned in LHR and I was left with a very fond memory of that flight...
@@Hannah-pk6iq I knew from every report that the man had class, compassion and an exteme desire to help and encourage others. Just his presence made that airmans day. So cruel you-even Alan Richman would have given you the time of day and appreciated that man’s story.

What I wouldn't give to see the three of them (Emma, Rima and Alan) together having this laugh. Rima is SO sweet! This is a lovely book! I was surprised to see his artwork in his diary entries. This book is a gift to all who admired Alan.
This book is written in such a way that caused a lot of fans to believe he was gay or bi when there is no scandal on him and no evidence that he was . They could have done a kind of documentary about his life instead of publishing his private diaries and exposing him to false assumptions. He should have been the only one to decide whether he wanted his diary published and when and what to include in it, not someone else's decision. It's a disrespect to his memory.
@@nickieh6034 how do you know? Were you there? The publisher writes in the foreword that it's not clear whether Alan wanted to publish the diaries. What's your proof that Rima knew what his wish was?

Met him at a Q&A in Hollywood for "A Little Chaos" in 2015. It was one of the best days of my life. Yes, Rima and Emma are correct -- he was kind of moody and unapproachable, but he signed my picture of him (which I have framed on my living wall), and he gave me a wonderful smile when I did approach him. Rima is absolutely charming. I've always loved Rima.
I like her, too. And I think she might be a good rolemodel for women, because: I don't have any children either, and she is one of those women who prove that a woman doesn't necessarily need to be a mother in order to be balanced, passionate, caring, calm (in a healthy way) and content. There's a cliche that I'm sometimes told by mothers, that I (39) will someday become bitter and unbalanced if I won't become a mother. They don't even care that it's partly also health problems that caused me to decide not to be a mother. I sometimes think it's rather the continuing derisive words of people like that who might MAKE women like me bitter someday if they are treated like this for long enough 🤷♀️

@Linda King I don't want to spoil the impact of that distinct and captivating voice for you! Wiki has a surprising paragraph detailing that Alan had some kind of locked jaw when young, producing his slowed pace of speech. And something about a "spastic palate" - that from one of his drama teachers! I knew nothing about Alan's years before the Die Hard film (1988), released when he was already 42. First studying graphic design, then running a business with fellow graduates for a couple of years. Applying to RADA at the age of 24. Supporting himself as a student by working as a theatre dresser for Ralph Richardson and Nigel Hawthorne (names from memory). Now those would have been amazing experiences. I imagine Alan learned alot about clothing, costume and the wearing of it. He definitely had his own stylish personal look. Then Alan joining the board of RADA some twenty five years later, serving as Vice Chair and on various committees. So he definitely believed in giving back to support the next generations. Anyway ... an interesting read.
@@lindaking9222 I agree. Alan's voice was a wonderful gift for an actor (in spite of any physical oddities). And a gift for his many audiences over the years.

She published his private diaries without his consent and tarnished his memory by giving rise to false assumptions about Alan's double life as gay or bi, because of the entries she included in the book. None of those would have happened if she hadn't published them. The fact that he's gone does not justify what she did . Even if Alan wanted to publish them at some point,he should have been the one to decide when to publish them and what to include ,not somebody else . Who does that to a loved one?

@@Michael-om7pfif Alan really wanted to keep his diaries private after his death, he would have destroyed them or asked openly for them to be destroyed. As for Tom Burke's interview,he wrote that his mother asked Alan if he intended to write a book in the future and he said "No, I know myself and I am not interested". The author collected sources from people who either knew Alan in person or worked with him, including Alan's close friend and director Peter Barnes. Another proof that Alan didn't want his diaries published, if he didn't collaborate on Maureen Paton 's book why would he write his own? Alan should have been the only one to decide when to publish his diaries and what to include in them, not someone else. Rima knew him for 50 years she knew how private man he was to do such a thing to him just because he's gone. He left her millions. Or why you would make negative accusations or assumptions about his relationship with Rima either unless you had a jealous agenda against her. The diaries really don’t reveal that much and they would have been heavily edited so the really private stuff would of course, not be included.
No one disturbed him, we all respected him and his privacy.
his death shocked me .. too premature, but I had the opportunity to give a small gift to this great actor:
two days after his death, my third child was born, I named him Alan ..
in honor of him, and in remembrance of him.
That’s a beautiful story & tribute. ♥️
No Rima didn't keep his dream home, where his precious ashes are buried! She didn't want it. He willed it to his niece Sarah, his brother David's daughter.

Rima is so sweet. I understand why he loved her so much.
True
Evidently she’s also brilliant.
They were together for over 50 years
Unfortunately she didn't love him as much .
@@labratambercertainly not, they were apart in the 90s not counting when he was sharing a flat with Ruby Wax and her boyfriend.

Mine too. I would love to see it again.
I knew it! Rima was his anchor. She kept him grounded. I'm so glad they had each other.

I wish I knew someone like Mr Rickman in my life. He was so real and yet classic. An adorable wife he had.

Wonderful actor & what an unforgettable voice

I never heard her voice before, she's seems even more smart and warm than him. RIP the marvellous Mr Rickman.
Smart enough to get the opportunity to draw attention on herself by publishing Alan's diaries without his consent.
That is stated in the diaries foreword.
Moreover, Alan's godson Tom Burke affirms that Alan would never write a memoir.
That's in his interview for the Guardian.
The book did more damage to his reputation than good.
A lot of his fans made false assumptions about Alan's character and sexuality, for which he can't defend himself .
@@Libra-v1r I don't wish to argue with you, but she doesn't appear to 'draw' attention to herself, she's published them and gone back to living her life quietly. And both she and Emma Thompson appeared to state that Alan knew and approved of the diaries being published (though, they could indeed be lying through their teeth, I have no way to know). Do you have a link to the interview in the Guardian?
@@Walls2008 just Google "Tom Burke the Guardian interview" or "Tom Burke on Alan Rickman".
Alan never approved of the diaries being published .
If you have the book there's a note by publisher Alan Taylor in the foreword.
He says that it's not clear whether Alan wanted his diaries published or not.
Rima herself said that she wouldn't have thought of a finest editor than him,and by the way,she sold the rights of that book to the publishing house.
That means they could collect the rest of the entries and publish another book in the future,in which they can add or remove anything they like, even fabricate spicy stories to attract new readers.
As for Tom Burke's interview,he wrote that his mother asked Alan if he intended to write a book in the future and he said "No, I know myself and I am not interested".
There's also another book by Maureen Paton, Alan's unauthorized biography, which Alan did not collaborate on.
She should have donated some of that money to fund pancreatic cancer research, plus the money she got from selling his property.
If she only asked for people's financial support for that cause everyone would have offered money without her publishing Alan's private diaries.
How can you do that to a loved one without their consent?
Alan was (is) a beautiful soul
Grateful to Rima for sharing the diaries.
His private diaries that she published without his consent.
What a disrespectful act to the man who honored her until his last moment when he dedicated a song for her to be played at his memorial service.
@@Libra-v1rYes you're right! She had no business publishing his private diaries when she herself said they were private and she hadn't even read them! They could have made like a biography of him and his life and things and talked to people who knew him. Not publish his own private diary for the world to see ! Not expose him to speculations and assumptions about his private life! Who does that to a loved one! Even if he had told her on the day he died that he was going to publish his diaries he would be doing it not her not Alan Taylor not Emma Thompson not anybody but him he would pick out what he wanted not somebody else that never even read themd before. You think they discussed what he would want in it, when he only had. Few months to live? They even change what was in it they were only going to do have from 91 til 2016. They added and appendix that contains some things from the 70s and early 80s. Anyway you look at it you don't publish someone's private diary of someone that's well-known and loved like Alan....not when he's not there to oversee it.
I still miss him.
@topicalnewsanddebate Would it be possible to release the full interview with Rita and Emma?
that was all that was on the programme , with pre-recorded interviews they just choose what they consider to be the best bits of a longer interview , will double check but I don't think there is a longer version anywhere !
Loved ❤
I listen to the audiobook version of the diaries, marvellous!

Alan wanted his diaries to be destroyed
@@Libra-v1robviously untrue. A complete fabrication. The diaries came out in 2022. Why has this allegation only been revealed now? This podcast was uploaded 4 months ago and the allegation that Alan wanted his diaries destroyed has appeared nowhere else. If there was any grain of truth to it then the mainstream tabloids would be all over it by now - that hasn’t happened. TMZ specialise in crass celebrity gossip and take story tips from anyone. They haven’t backed up their allegations with any source or contacted representatives of
Alan’s family, Rima Horton or the publishers for comment. They get away with
this because they are not part of the mainstream media. Dead celebrities are like cannon fodder for them - they don’t care about the truth. The diaries have been edited very respectfully. If you don’t like them or disagree with them - don’t read them. To choose to embark on a two year campaign of hate, misinformation, blatant lies and disgusting allegations (not just about the diaries either) against Rima is obsessional, toxic trolling behavior. It is not anyone’s business to make any sort of judgment against Rima about the diaries, her relationship with Alan or anything else. Go and get another ‘hobby’ Nicole and while you’re at it - act your age and not like some obsessional 16 year old!
Bring him back please
You and Robbie are there. Both liked
If those diaries were so private, even his WIFE wasn’t allowed to read them, would Rickman want all of us reading them?
He told her he wanted them published.
@@winterguest2003that's a complete lie!!!!
You should read what the publisher Alan Taylor wrote in the diaries foreword .
He wrote that it's not clear whether Alan wanted them published or not!
Besides,Alan didn't cooperate on the writing of his unauthorised biography by Maureen Paton.
Why do you think he would approve of that one?
How ungrateful and disrespectful she was to do such a thing.
There are entries in the book that have caused a lot of his fans to falsely assume he was gay or bi , because of the way that book was written.
Thanks Rima! 😡
That's not true at all! Why would you want someone to publish your diary when you wouldn't be there to tell him what to put in it? I can't think anyone who would publish their loved ones diary specially famous person. She had no business doing that. And it has made people speculate and make false assumptions about things because of the way it's written mostly bits and pieces and very ambiguous in places. Even though I enjoyed the book, I would rather it not have been published
The Maureen Paton book was a hatchet job, poorly edited, full of errors and very badly written. It’s no wonder Alan hated it. At least the diaries are Alan’s own words. I don’t know why or how anybody would make any assumptions about his sexuality - I certainly didn’t and it looks like the majority of commenters on here didn’t either. Or why you would make negative accusations or assumptions about his relationship with Rima either unless you had a jealous agenda against her. The diaries really don’t reveal that much and they would have been heavily edited so the really private stuff would of course, not be included. There is no way Rima would have gone ahead with having them published if Alan hadn’t approved of it in some way (or his brothers and sister for that matter). Neal Pearson the book dealer (and actor) who found a publisher for the diaries in response to being asked whether Alan would have wanted them published said : “I’m certain that he would because Rima is certain that he would…and I was very happy to go along with her on that basis.” Rima was his soulmate and most of the sensible, mature comments on here support and recognise that. Stop dishonoring Alan’s memory by spreading misinformation because of your completely irrational hatred of his widow. @@Libra-v1r
@@janz1352 so you call Alan Taylor a liar?????????
Why would he write that it's not clear whether Alan wanted his diaries published or not?????
You're IGNORANT about Maureen Paton 's book because I can tell you have not read it ,you just reproduce what people have said about it
And because you're IGNORANT I inform you that Alan's close friend and director Peter Barnes collaborated on that book.
Do some research before you spread LIES !!!!!
People who knew Alan personally have collaborated on that book, which makes it no less credible than his diaries.
Rima had no business publishing the diaries.
You know NOTHING about Alan, which gives you no right to say anything on the matter
A man so private, that he never mentioned he had cancer in any of his entries, because he was afraid that the diary could fall into the wrong hands if it was ever stolen.
He had absolutely no reason to expose his thoughts to the public.
He said that he didn't want people to know everything about him,if they wanted to know who he was it was all in the work.
Obviously you haven't heard any of this and if you have it's not convenient for you to admit it not to spoil the image of your beloved Rima about whom you know nothing about either !
Stop telling lies if you don't have proof of what you're talking about!
Yes, the voice, almost a purr……. There was only one Sheriff of Nottingham as far as I’m concerned. A very sad loss to the acting world.
Loved him in Die Hard. He was just rotten 😂 I don’t like Hollyweird but British actors seem to be the cream of the crop. That scene in Love Actually-ugh. It made me cry. They’re so excellent together
"and then Rima turned up and I calmed down" 😢
It seems it was the only good thing she did for him because publishing his private diaries and leaving him open to false assumptions is certainly not good!
It’s only people like you making those false assumptions borne out of jealousy of Rima @@Libra-v1r
Che mostro di bravura. Alan r.i.p.
i want to hear more
But Emma you and Alan in love actually was truly amazing together felt the emotion and vibe be proud of that ok rip Alan did not know yer as a person but as an actor truly amazing and Emma too wonderful films memories will live on god bless both of you.
Alan is a great actor any movie he was in was great but my favourite was Robin Hood ❤❤❤
Is there an extended version of this interview somewhere?
Oh how I love Emma Thompson! Comparing herself to Piglet - "There I'd be bouncing around and he (Alan) would just about put up with my small pinkness."
just a class act aces a fan rip
