Everyone tells beginners to stay away from this one but i say go for it if you follow the simple steps i provide, you will have one of the prettiest fish in your aquarium.
Good tips and nice fish! Here's another great tip for all dragonet owners- Nutramar Ova! It's a frozen food that makes this type of fish super easy to keep. I have tons of pods in my nano but my green mandarin dragonet was getting skinny after a few weeks of being introduced and now he is fat and happy! If you are daily feeding prawn roe I don't think you even need any pods.
wow, pods are the only reason they are marked as difficult? I thought I wouldn't be able to keep one because I am just starting out, but shoot. It ain't hard to keep buying and adding pods. Just difficult to consistently keep paying for those pods lol
Exactly what i thought and then my LFS recommended it to me after only having my tank running for a few months and said the only reason they can be difficult is if they starve all the pods lol. May be picking one up tomorrow! :D
+Brock Leonard Whats the best way to establish the Bacteria level for a new non-reef tank? Live rock? Damsels? If a fish store is nice a used filter pad?
Francis Jobes those 3 are perfect. Live sand is also another thing to consider. And we will even put a piece of raw shrimp in the tanks too, to begin that cycle.
Could you make a video of them sleeping because my mandarin almost changes a color when it sleeps and doesn’t move at all... he’s alive tho I made sure by tapping on the glass a lil.
Just a thought, might be a little safer to highlight the care level 1st before the price point... people watching only saw the dollar sign and not necessarily the fact that most people kill their mandarins off rather quickly....
If they're stupid enough not to watch a 4-minute video on how to keep a difficult fish then there's no helping them. Put the price at the beginning or the end is no difference. Stupid is as stupid does.
Hey Brock, I've put about 6 bottles of tigger pods in my 180 gallon with 20 gallon refugium, over the last 4 weeks. I feed phyto plankton to my system 2-3 a week. How many bottles should i load in this tank before i'm ready for 1 mandarin goby? You say 1 bottle last you two months?
The tank is about 10 years old. it does have a 20 gallon refugium. I'm just not sure if I can put too much Tiggerpods in the system, and when would it be ready to start putting in Manderine Gobies... ruclips.net/user/shortsK_PNAG9L7Zs?si=Ep3IlTCluSP9cyXe@@BrockLeonard
Well they have several names... Mangarin, Mandarinfish (not to be confused with Mandarin Fish), also known as Mandarin Dragonet, is a small-sized, bright and multi-colored sea fish, mostly nocturnal, belonging to the dragonet family. It is a popular saltwater aquarium fish. Synchiropus splendidus, also known as the mandarin goby and the mandarin dragonet, native to the Pacific Ocean. Picturesque dragonet or Synchiropus picturatus, also known as the spotted mandarin, psychedelic mandarin or target mandarin, native to the Indo-West Pacific. I hope I didn't confuse you!!!!! lol
No it's not a Goby, dragonet and Goby are different species. They're similar in behaviour etc which is why people get confused and think dragonets are gobys x

hildy2222 great info!! Thank you so much. Pinned it for future viewers
where can you buy this?
hildy2222 THANK U!!! I was thinking of getting this for my first fish, but the pods were worrying me.
That is awesome advice. Now i am definatly adding a male and female to my 90 gallon tank.
You still need pods though, and just with frozen food you still need to feed it atleast 10 times a day for it to thrive
I love the diversity in content in this channel keep up dope content my dood!
So glad you came to watch!! means a lot to me
beautiful fish. i've had mine for 2 years
Rotter Tube Reef do you have to replenish your pods a lot?
Exotic Aquatic most nowadays are captive breed they eat flakes and pellets as well...

I just got one of these there beautiful and really fun to watch
Only buy captive bred Mandarins! So much healthier and easier to keep fed.
I just subscribed. Your videos are very helpful. Thanks very much. ✌
Thanks for stopping by! Let me know if you ever have questions in the future.
Our mandarin is 2 weeks old from our tank. Never eaten the pellets we had nor the sea weed thing but I do see him eating sumn in the sand...
I used to have a Mandarin Goby in my previous tank and I never dealt with pods. I threw frozen brine shrimp cubes in the tank and he loved those
That's the best! And what everyone hopes for theirs to eventually eat

Yeah they will camouflage themselves when sleeping making them look really pale.
Brock Leonard ok thank you for telling me...
My local store fish feed this dragonet mandarin with mysis shrimp.
This is. My favorite fish
They are amazing
Hellooo! I recently found one in the store and they mentioned it is eating frozen food. Do you think it would be easy to care when they eat frozen?
It takes a lot of the headache away haha. The other piece is keeping up with your water parameters. They can be very weak to spikes in the tank.
@@BrockLeonard Thanks for the answer, love your videos. Taught me a lot!
@@aritosoto can’t thank you enough for watching, means a lot!
Welp I was told that he ate what everyone else was eating by my aquarium store I've been lied to I guess that's why mine died at a week....

That’s in a tank without a refugium. With as much as you’ve added, they should be reproducing at this point. How old is the tank?

Do they eat amphipods...my amphipods are only active at night
Can you use garlic to train them to eat frozen foods?
What do you think would be some good tank mates for it?
Things that are peaceful. Gobies, wrasse, clownfish!
i know this is a little late but would they be fine with a dwarf angel?
Looch Moore Yes! :)
Do you put the entire bottle in at once?
Can I keep one with a bicoloir angel
Dweebozoid 456 YES
Can i keep mandarin goby with emperor angelfish?
Just get a biota mandarin from liveaquaria they eat frozen
Algae in fish tank
Which brand of pods you give them ?
REEF NUTRITION
I know they are poisonous ☠️ can they kill a human?
No
Somebody requested me to sketch a green mandarin dragonet mermaid; so that's how I got here, looking for refs.
Boleniana awe, that’s awesome! Well if you need more pictures, let me know and I can dm you any that I’ve taken of em over the years.
Can he eat baby brine shrimp? I heard he only eat live foods
Jk Bruno pods are what they are used to eating in the wild so there’s a chance you could train him to eat brine, but you never know if it’ll work.
Not bad
I have a question and the reason why I'm asking I heard somewhere that it's not actually a goby or is it not a goby
yes it is a dragonet not a goby

Does your fish have ich? I see the white spots from the video
ich only lives on fish not walls
Mandarins have an extremely thick slime coat, so it’s hard for them to get ich. It’s probably just sand stuck to the slime
I guess I got lucky my mandrian goby eats brine shrimp
Can't ask for anything better than that!
It's not a goby...
fish
COPEPODS
do brackish
i just fed this fish to my cat for his bday he enjoyed it just didnt know i could of sold it for 25 bucks
