- We all know numbers do not lie. This is not a video about how you should not buy a dragonet. This is one to give you the mathematics on how to keep one. If you do the math and everything adds up. I promise you will have success with tigger pods and baby brine shrimp. Follow my other videos how to get the tigger pods and brine shrimp started. Plus my little theory at the end of this video on how to give them the best chance to eating frozen brine w/spirulina.

Had my pair of mandarins 4 weeks in a 650 l mixed reef tank which is 2 years old now put in cocoa pods in lobster eggs and small brine shrimp mixing it all together don't know if they're eating it because I squirt it in the caves but they seem to be looking healthy but thanks for the ideas nice video

Gave up my 125g Reef some years ago du es to personal issues. Now dying to get back in the Hobbie but it will have to be a nano set up!🤑$issues. What's the smallest tank you think I can keep one of these guys in if I follow your regimen???
Believe it or not I purchased a spotted Mandarine last month because my LSF told me they were good with flat worms🤔. Go figure. Either way I fell in love with her and did my research on diet and my heart sank when I realized they eat pods. So I didn't want her to die and I started buying bottles tisbe at first and then of tigger pods like a drug addict on crack so that she wouldn't die on me. In the meantime I tried feeding live brine with a target feeder and it worked 😅. Then I started to mix in frozen brine till she got used to eating frozen only. I have had her in the tank now 1 month and she looks great . Hasn't lost weight. I've also started to raise tigger pods in a 2 gallon tank and have had success. I'd like to raise more though.

Hi Sergio .Sadly I still have the flat worms. Mandi the Mandarin has no interest in them. It's been a tough battle with the worms and it got to the point my rocks had a carpet of flat worms covering them. I found a way to at least keep the population low without having to medicate my aquarium. I use thin wall tubing with a hose attached to it and at each waterchange I vaccume them out. It is a tideous job to say the least but it really helps reduce them. My rock's look so much better now.
@@4SunnyinMiami2 ah that’s disappointing to hear, Mandi only likes the good stuff then 😂 I’ve been trying to prepare my tank with copepods for a Mandarin and out of nowhere had an outbreak of flatworms. So was really hoping the Mandarin would sort it out!

Sorry to hear that. I have also read that a little blue fish called Springers Damsel is also a flat worm eating machine. 🤔 I'm not sure that I will ever rid the aquarium of them but at least keep them at bay with the thinwall tube. Best of luck to you.
i not get it i never added any pods just pellet and flake food and some brine shrimp. I have a breeding pair they thrive in my tank maybe as i brought home new fish may i have added pods . Were nearing 3 years there thriving and mating with babies .Mandarin Goby i'm not looking to be a breeder i do have 90 gallon tank .I give the children that live to local pet store aka my nieghbor .

I have a innovative marine nuvo tank. Will I be able to grow tisbe pods in the live rock that i have in the back chambers of the tank? What can I do in order to colonize them in the back chambers of the tank?

Had a tall tank and I am only 5’2”! I felt like I was snorkeling every time I had to reach in there! Never again! 😺
Why not use amphipods? They are bigger and can eat fish food making them easier to breed.
I don't know that much about them really but have seen talk about them being a food the mandarins eat. I have ordered some so will see how it goes but according to the wikipedia they eat detritus and a lot of the well known saltwater guys recommend having them in your tank.
I do think i will start a tig pod culture too and see which one works out the best.
mandarins don't usually eat amphipods.
Also late reply, in addition to mandarins not generally liking them because they are too big, Amphipods generally eat copepods that your Mandarin will eat.
I had to get two pairs before I got two that survived in my tank for any length of time. They both started out eating only amphipods that I was breeding in a 10g tank for them. The male eventually started eating pellets to my surprise. The male for some reason got aggressive with the female and started to attack her so moved her to the 10g and she later died. The male was fine just eating pellets for 7-8 months until my heater malfunctioned and overheated the tank. All the other fish survived but he did not sadly.
Just buy a biota mandarin and you won’t have to do any of this
