  • Feeding my Spotted Mandarin Dragonets by putting brine shrimp and some pellets in a bottle where only they can enter and have a feast. Doing this is a good way to ensure that your Dragonets are eating without having their food stolen by other fishes.
Scarf and Scarlet have been adjusting really well, this is the first time they experience this kind of feeding. After about a week of doing this they now know full aware that this is a food container.

Idk why but Mandarin fish remind me of Hummingbirds with the way that they move

Great idea, great video! I used to clip a turkey baster with frozen food, into my rocks where only the Mandarins could only reach. They'd feed from the tip as the food would advance to them by gravity. After they were finished, I'd wedge the baster with leftover food under my tanks' lids, and let the rest of the tank feed. No waste and the water would stay clean.

Blennies will steal food in a minute! We had to build a special feeder for our Mandarins because the star blenny would run right over them as they tried to eat.

Good idea and wonderful photography! I've had one of these fish (rapidly become a favourite), for a couple of months and worry about her getting enough food. I use a baster and dispense food (in sandy areas of the tank she frequents most), just after feeding the other fish. It works almost all of the time. But you've got me thinking about a similar arrangement, thanks.

@@peaceofmind9409 Frozen brine shrimp. He seems to spit out some of it like yours do but must be keeping a lot of it down as he appears healthy and not thin. But I do worry and am looking to feed him live food soon. That's why I was interested in your bottle feeding method. He's so gentle and when I fed live cope pods the other fish were all over it before he had a chance.

How long did you do this for? Were you ever able to transition them to frozen brine or mysis?

This took me a while over a period of 2 months for Scarf, my male Dragonette to take forzen. However Scarlet, my female never transition to forzen. She only eats pellets

Sorry for the late reply, if you are talking about the Blue/Green Mandarins I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a big tank. Usually they will fight even if its the opposite sex.

Unless they are recently hatched brine shrimp with the sac on them. That's what I've kept my mandarins alive with.
