  • In my opinon, stabilizers make or break a keyboard. It doesn't matter if the alphas sound amazing, as long as there is rattle somewhere you'll want to rebuild the whole thing. Sometimes stabs start off well and then deteriorate, so choosing the right stabs is essential.
    In this video we do a showdown between Durock, c3 and Staebies. Other stabs weren't considered as they were either terrible or I didn't have them on hand (TX/Owlstabs). I used a light amount of lube as we all know that lube can be displaced over time and this will mimic what might happen.
    TL;DR
    With light lube: Staebies C3 Durocks (best to worst)
    With heavy lube: Staebies and Durocks are best
    With Epsi mod: Durocks are best (can't Epsi mod Staebies)

    there is one fault with ALL stabilizers that no one has picked up yet - the space underneath the wire is open and after a couple of months the lube leaves the wire and gets underneath where the plastic makes contact with the PCB and causes a slight sticky kind of feel - if I were designing a stab housing I would enclose the entire space where the wire sits so that any lube that is applied will stay put and not move out over time - i can't understand why nobody has picked this up - just design the housing in such a way so that the lube stays in the housing and doesn't eventually get onto the pcb - there is NO reason that the underside must be open

      You made a really good point about that part. You can also say the overall design is bad too because when the stab is in it's upright position, it is exposed to air/dust. That will be some serious innovation. I can say that with Epsi mod, it solves the problem you stated. I will make a detailed guide of it later.

      The bottom is open so you can get the stem in/out. Maybe if the housing was a 2 piece construction that you snapped together? But that might also make rattle worse

      For me, only with evg v3 plate mount the are no hole beneath the wire, which is much better than the screw in version

      @@snakeplissken5969 an opening for getting the stem in and out on the side is fine but think of a train and the way the pistons attach to the wheels
      Something like that might work on a stab

      This is why most stabilizers sound okay at first but then start to tick pretty quickly, especially on heavily used keys like the spacebar. Most people use 205g0 which spreads off the wire pretty quickly. It's a lot better to use something thicker like a bdz that won't evaporate (like dialectric grease) and will stay in place on the stabilizer for a significantly longer period of time.

    Keep up the good work Epsi! Would love to get my hands on some staebies, and use them for soldered builds especially, so I don't have to desolder the whole board if a stab starts ticking for no reason...

    My current keyboard kit is rocking the durock stabs heavily modded and it doesnt tick, although it did take some work with wire bandaid modding, holee modding and heavy lube. I was thinking of going c3 for my next keyboard since they are the same price as durock and the mod kit seems pretty interesting. If I am going to heavily mod the stabs would you take durock over the c3s?

    • @epsilonkeyboards
      @epsilonkeyboards  2 года назад +1

      c3 is harder to heavily mod because their stem hole and room inside is smaller but definitely worth a go. I think it is important to experiment a bit, especially if you have never tried and have been in the hobby for a bit. I still prefer durock v2 tho.

    Great vid man. Do you have an opinion on owl stabs in comparison to the stabs you covered in this video?

    • @epsilonkeyboards
      @epsilonkeyboards  2 года назад

      Hey mate, I haven't used the owl stabs personally. I did build a Mr. Suit but the client changed the stabs. I haven't heard great things about them and I don't know any streamer that uses them over any other stab. So just by inference, I would say that while they aren't bad, there are better stabs out there.

    Is it okay to lube staebies housing and stem with 3204 or 3203? Would that prevent it from getting too mushy? And would you recommend xht bdz (light) on staebies? Thanks

    • @epsilonkeyboards
      @epsilonkeyboards  Год назад +1

      All the lubes you have said are fine. Bdz is definitely thicc so light application. Once installed, put a keycap on and spam it and she'll be right.

    i luibed my steabies with 205 g0 and a heavy application of xhd bdz on the wire and now one side of the stabs sounds higher pitched than the other side any tips on that?

    • @epsilonkeyboards
      @epsilonkeyboards  Год назад

      You'll need to take them out and clean and re apply. Staebies need a super light coating as their tolerances are tight.

  • @niko1even

    I'd just like to add that the Durock V2 because it has so much wiggle room for the insert, it can actually causes interference with certain keyboards. I've had this issue with my D84, with the durock stabs, the spacebar would actually wiggle so much and hit against the frame of the keyboard, causing a loud ticking noise. The moment i swapped to GMK screw ins, the ticking was gone.
    I plan to pick up some C3 V3 stabs to hopefully get decent stabs that won't interfere with my case, these GMK screw ins are scratchy.

    • @epsilonkeyboards
      @epsilonkeyboards  2 года назад +2

      The same can be said about kbd8x where it has problems with right shift and enter with durocks v2. For most boards tho, there is no problem such with non-kbdfans boards, so perhaps it's not a durock problem but a kbdfans problem?

    • @niko1even
      @niko1even 2 года назад +1

      @@epsilonkeyboards maybe as well be. KBDfans could easily fix it by just increasing the space between the keys and outer frame just a bit.
      Quick question: have you got your hands on the Aurora Clear switches from Wuque Studios? Apparently they have an UHMWPE bottom, so i’m super interested.

      I have the c3 and the tick is worse than the GMMK pro stock gsv2 I did not use the little stickers that are supposed to be inserted into the stem but I didn’t want to because people say they come loose after a while. I honestly don’t know what to do at this point still is there and I even filled it up with lube.
