    i like the occasional comment calling this bullshit and referring to him as a cult guru whatever type of guy...
    he works as a consultant to some of the biggest sports franchises in the world. his title is, in fact, "doctor." and if you've ever tried it, his shit actually works and helps, as evidenced by the thousands (tens?) of people saying so.

      Thinking outside of the box is a scary concept to some people. They fear what they don’t know, and so they get defensive.

    Whoa, what a great tip on putting a towel in the pillowcase! I have slept two night now doing thing and what a difference it has made for me. I have been having trouble with shoulder pain too and I did the extra pillow under the arm deal and woke up with no pain first thing in the morning in months. Glad I found your channel!

    Holy crap, after watching 3 MWod sleep videos and then trying it.... neck support (yep a towel) and the proper under knee bolster dialed in, I instantly went from rough sleep consisting of back, side, 3/4 and stomach tossing and turning hot mess into a solid, well rested, woke up in the same position I fell asleep in back sleeper. (Didn’t expect instant and amazing results - but I got them).
    I’m just a nobody who feels pretty physically broken and utterly unlike my former high speed self (quit working out like a beast, sick of walking with a limp and in general discouraged because all that stuff starts a general cascade downward) looking to rebuild and re-engineer in all the fundamental areas.... better quality sleep has felt like a total game changer.
    So thank you for putting this out there. No one else has been able to give me decent, applicable advice when I ask for it. I love that he explains the whys behind what he advises and provides guidance for self diagnosis. It’s much easier to fix a problem when you are given easy ways to spot it.

    Thanks, Kelly for making me more keenly aware of the myriad ways to really get after whole body mobility issues. I feel like your contribution to public health is phenomenal and life extending. I am also impressed by the fact that thanks to your instruction, I have a ton of self work to do! Thanks for the instruction and for your humanity!

    I do the same thing, and man your diet has alot to do with the way you sleep. In fact, I went to the doctor before going to physio and he mentioned that resorting to a position like sleeping on your stomach at night, is a behaviour that can be related to high stress and is a way of forcing your body into achieving your first REM cycle faster. He mentioned that by including fish oils and starchy carbs at night like oatmeal (nutrients that optimize brain function) you can actually further..

    I suffered Thoracic Outlet Syndrome after one bad upright row the gym Oct. Extremely painful and debilitating. Only now getting back in the gym. Still can't lift 5lbs over my head. I think poor sleeping habits contributed to both shoulders - not just the injured one, being susceptible to injury.

    Hi Kelly, firstly happy new year! I've just discovered your channel today, looks great! Thank you. I have a shoulder rotor cuff problem, and wondered if you could help me. I sleep on my stomach with my right arm under the pillow bend at 90 degrees at the elbow, with my fat head laying on it. I've had my shoulder sub-locate a few times when pressing dumb bells on a 45 degree bench press, its also happen when doing a behind the neck barbell press (Which i now know is a big no no!) I've had it Xrayed, there are no big problems they could find. I also had a physio the other year, but it never really solved my problems. He said my subscapularis was quote "unbelievably tight!" i know it hurts like mad when i get a sports massage on it! (right where the muscle meets the ball on my arm bone, at the front of my shoulder)I'm guessing me sleeping on it is causing this?
    I'm wanting to get back into training, but know i need to work on my shoulder before hand.
    If I put my arm straight out in front of me with my thumb facing the sky, then move it at shoulder height backwards (like doing a reserves fly, with a straight arm) i get a clicking sensation in the front of my shoulder when my arm passes my ear(very similar to cracking yours knuckles) i don't believe its my joint, but a tendon or muscle making this noise (kind of like it rolling over the bone being really tight) right in the region where my subscapularis meets my ball bone on my arm.
    I also have winging of the scapular on this same right arm, i can stick my shoulder blade out into a point almost, i'm wondering if these two are linked?
    I would appreciate any advice off you, and if possible, if you could do a post on this and showing some stretches/ strengthening drills?
    Thanks again Adam
    All the best over 2015!!!

    So how exactly did early humans sleep? I realize they probably didn't suffer from the sedentary problems that modern man suffers from but I imagine our ancient ancestors didn't have the mot "comfortable" means of sleeping like we do and they probably still were fully capable of living a badass and capable existence. It just doesn't make sense that nature would mess that part of humans up (needing to sleep in a very specific manner) because if it did then we wouldn't have made it this long.I don't mean to come off like a smart ass but this is something I've always wondered.

    • @Vickyt-w1t
      @Vickyt-w1t Год назад +1

      Our ancestors were busy all day long, gathering necessities for survival. Once they hit the ground, they were asleep. I imagine that some even slept on their feet. I'm so thankful for all these tips. We who suffer with pain appreciate these experts. It's better than having injections and, ultimately, surgery.

      Are you already doing the towel trick? Your shoulder is probably out of alignment due to one of the three rotator cuff muscles being weak and unable to stabilize your shoulder properly. You might also be over activating your trap muscles or have them over developed. Try doing the Dr. Kirschner Method for 3 weeks or so. See if that helps. It's basically hanging with your hands in a pull up position(not chin up) and letting your shoulders completely relax so it fully stretches. Don't try to pull yourself up at all and be fully extended at the bottom of a pull up for 15-60 seconds with no tension in your shoulders. Just letting it full stretch. Then using 5 pound weights or whatever you can do '30' times in a row....raising up and over your head via a large circular arc....Another round of hanging. Then out to your sides to over your head, another round of stretching, then back at ~45 degrees from your body, another round of stretching.
      Dr. Bradley something has a great video on it.

    • @MathTutorVideos
      @MathTutorVideos 8 лет назад +4

      Stay awake for 24 hours straight without sleep aka pull an all nighter. When you go to sleep the following night on your back, I guarantee you will be so exhausted, you will fall asleep right away, deeply and remain asleep the whole night. Position doesn't matter when you are tired. You've now broken your pattern/belief that "wahhhh I can't sleep my back. wahhhhhh."

    No. Since sleep is very important for health our bodies are obviously optimized for sleeping on the ground without a pillow - and the comfortable and extremely stable position for sleeping thus is on the side with about a 70 degree angle to the ground (the combination of body weight and resistance in the quad makes it extremely stable, the shoulder is highly flexible and has built-in padding, and it is comfortable to rest the head on the temple).

    • @MathTutorVideos

      This totally makes sense b/c people before 2016 we were absolute total morons. Just absolute idiots. Nobody, could ever have possible thought of grab some leaves, put them in a pile on top of a flat rock and make a pillow with to keep your neck in a nice neutral position like was done with the rolled up towel here. Nope. Nobody. Oh wait, a sec. Maybe if I thought of that concept after 3 seconds after reading your 'theory', someone else with years of time to think on their hand while suffering from insomnia or a bad nights sleep could have thought of it...
      Gee, I guess your theory doesn't stand up to a few seconds of thought or we are so smart, intelligent and perfect Erik, that only our intellect today in 2016 could come up with such an idea. Back 300 to 2000 years ago, nobody ever thought to make things out of sticks, branches or leaves. That bow and arrow thing? A myth; I tell you. A myth.
