  • Leopardistas! How are those shoulders working for you?
    We created this 3-part video to help address shoulder impingement, a common occurrence in athletes we see. Rather than focus on the shoulder-to-scapula relationship, we're looking at a less obvious but key relationship between the scapula and the body.

    Dang Dr. Starrett, every time I thought I know what to do I learn something new from you. MobWOD is my favorite for improving RoM. Thank you again for the clear and technically correct explanation of how to level up my shoulder game!

    Game changer for my 6 years of shoulder pain and inability to do any pushing movements. Hope you can do something similar for hips, especially dealing with anterior pelvic tilt / hip flexion and extention faults.

    I’m am SUPER excited to have come across this video....and I’m super thrilled to find out that I’ve been doing these things intuitively.
    Impingement sucks, big time.
    Incredibly frustrating, especially when what you do for a living requires that you have healthy shoulders.
    Thank you for making this video!

    I know this is a older video bit quick question. Why does it feel like really hard work to breathe with arms overhead like this ? Is this something that if done for long enough to help the shoulders that the body will become more comfortable breathing into this position?? Any tips on how to get better at breathing while hanging?

    This is exactly the problem I'm dealing with. I have been to a sports PT 2 times now and it keeps coming back but these look like some promising activities to help fix. Thank you! I'm going to get started right away. How do you feel on ice on this area when you get impingement pain?

  • @LuggageChestHead
    @LuggageChestHead 6 лет назад

    Thank you! What I didn't get is do you actively rotate your arm/armpit upfront while hanging and should I let all the shoulder muscles lose and the bodyweight pull the shoulder out or should I push it out (lockout) or even tuck it down actively?

    I've been lifting and overhead pressing for 2 years now, and my overhead mobility is still utter trash.
    I've tried stretching my pec major, minor, stretching my lats by putting my elbows on a bed/surface, nothing...I cant reach with my arms vertical without arching my spine a lot
    I dont know what to do, will try these but #1 is a variation of what I've already been doing, 2 looks more like a retractor/rotator strenghtening exercise, which I've done...#3 I've never done before, fingers crossed.
    thanks for the tips

      Mean Sausage it's not very flexible.
      I do breath, most of the time, and also brace, before every rep

      i didint see you mention 'hanging'. put some wrist straps on and just try hanging for a minute or two before you lift, as well as on the days you dont lift. it is the ultimate shoulder opener, nothing is quite like it (stretching, rolling, etc). also try foam rolling your lats before you lift. good luck

    3:35 "...where the arm scapula relationship is set. And then we move the body on the fixed and tractioned shoulder arm body relationship. *Pretty simple* " What? Can anyone understand this? I'm not being a troll; I'm really trying to understand.

    • @joshcummings9872
      @joshcummings9872 4 года назад

      Brace, traction the arm in place, create tension, and then move the body. This is opposed to moving the arm around a fixed body position.

    It's very interesting: the higher the production quality of video the less I enjoy them. This was a great video and I would have enjoyed it even more without the background music and the different camera angles, .
    I like it raw, I think people like it raw. It comes from the fact that when it is raw it is easier for me to imagine that I am in front of you and you are actually explaining things to me.
