- Leopardistas! How are those shoulders working for you?
We created this 3-part video to help address shoulder impingement, a common occurrence in athletes we see. Rather than focus on the shoulder-to-scapula relationship, we're looking at a less obvious but key relationship between the scapula and the body.

Thanks for this.
Dang Dr. Starrett, every time I thought I know what to do I learn something new from you. MobWOD is my favorite for improving RoM. Thank you again for the clear and technically correct explanation of how to level up my shoulder game!
Thank you... will give this a go
Game changer for my 6 years of shoulder pain and inability to do any pushing movements. Hope you can do something similar for hips, especially dealing with anterior pelvic tilt / hip flexion and extention faults.
Great relationship advice, thanks!
Invaluable..thanks for these videos youve helped so much!
Wow! This worked great! No more crunchy shoulders!
I just say ' Great ' Thanks Kelly as always.
ball on traps saved my shoulders. might I suggest ball on pec muscles too?! don't forget the front of the body! Thanks Kelly great video
I’m am SUPER excited to have come across this video....and I’m super thrilled to find out that I’ve been doing these things intuitively.
Impingement sucks, big time.
Incredibly frustrating, especially when what you do for a living requires that you have healthy shoulders.
Thank you for making this video!
Thanks so much, Kelly. Every your explanation is an enlightening experience. Clear, easy to understand, in other words: excellent.
You D Man Kelly , EXCELLENT production and video!
So good. Thank you 🙏🏻
Kelly, thanks for all of your hard work man. I’m excited to dig in your book, keep at it bro.
This is great & great format. Thanks for the help! Right when I needed it.
My shoulders thank you. This just what I needed!
My goodness...timely and needed. YOU ROCK!!
Amazing! Definitly going to try this. Thanks Kelly
Kelly, thank you for your job from Saint-Petersburg, Russia!
Amazing content. Thank you Doc! Will share!
Thank you, coach!
Thank you! As always stellar content. Just prefer your original format sans music.
yes, the music is a complete dose. really annoying, stick to just the voice please kelly
As usual incredible ... funny thing is that if you take care of your body your body will take care of you . ie ... longer run , faster sprint , more reps on squat and on and on ...sounds simple and it is but you gotta apply ....thank you ready state
Great video. Thanks for this.
I know this is a older video bit quick question. Why does it feel like really hard work to breathe with arms overhead like this ? Is this something that if done for long enough to help the shoulders that the body will become more comfortable breathing into this position?? Any tips on how to get better at breathing while hanging?
Great tips. Thanks. What can I do if I have scoliotic attitude. These wold help? My right shoulder is lower than left one, right QL is tight and right hip is tight-TFL. Thanks
loved the concept! please do more like this!
This is exactly the problem I'm dealing with. I have been to a sports PT 2 times now and it keeps coming back but these look like some promising activities to help fix. Thank you! I'm going to get started right away. How do you feel on ice on this area when you get impingement pain?
Hopefully the shoulder is doing well. Check out Ido Portal if you’d like more ideas💡
When you hang should your shoulders be externally rotated? Caus mine really internally roatstes bad
Just mimicing these movements on my couch helped lol xD. Definitely trying these!
How often should these movements be performed? On a daily basis? Pre or post workout?
Thank you! What I didn't get is do you actively rotate your arm/armpit upfront while hanging and should I let all the shoulder muscles lose and the bodyweight pull the shoulder out or should I push it out (lockout) or even tuck it down actively?
Awesome video.. I'm gonna stop at the park on my way home from my run 😀
Thank you, I’ll try this out. I had shoulder surgery a year ago and want to drive a soft-top convertible without re-injuring. I know, I know, Goals, baby. ;).
Having ac joint pain, would this work for me too? Not sure I'm impinged but definitely pain on top of acromion process
I've been lifting and overhead pressing for 2 years now, and my overhead mobility is still utter trash.
I've tried stretching my pec major, minor, stretching my lats by putting my elbows on a bed/surface, nothing...I cant reach with my arms vertical without arching my spine a lot
I dont know what to do, will try these but #1 is a variation of what I've already been doing, 2 looks more like a retractor/rotator strenghtening exercise, which I've done...#3 I've never done before, fingers crossed.
thanks for the tips
Mean Sausage it's not very flexible.
I do breath, most of the time, and also brace, before every rep
i didint see you mention 'hanging'. put some wrist straps on and just try hanging for a minute or two before you lift, as well as on the days you dont lift. it is the ultimate shoulder opener, nothing is quite like it (stretching, rolling, etc). also try foam rolling your lats before you lift. good luck

What is exercise #1 doing? Suprasprinatus release?
3:35 "...where the arm scapula relationship is set. And then we move the body on the fixed and tractioned shoulder arm body relationship. *Pretty simple* " What? Can anyone understand this? I'm not being a troll; I'm really trying to understand.
Brace, traction the arm in place, create tension, and then move the body. This is opposed to moving the arm around a fixed body position.
Can i do this hanging with supraspinatus tear?
Question: when is a good idea to do this
Hanging whenever possible, try to get 7 min a day for 30days. 30sec here 1min there n so on. It’ll change the shape of your shoulders
Would this help with Scapula winging?
deklares1 Scapular practice will help with that.
How do I elevate my upper Scap whilst depressing my outer sphincter
Can you explain traction a little more?
Uncanny timing! I’ve never been so happy to have my phone spy on my conversations!
It's very interesting: the higher the production quality of video the less I enjoy them. This was a great video and I would have enjoyed it even more without the background music and the different camera angles, .
I like it raw, I think people like it raw. It comes from the fact that when it is raw it is easier for me to imagine that I am in front of you and you are actually explaining things to me.
background music and Beats is very distracting, very difficult to hear and concentrate on what you were trying to say.
No, its actually very good background music
No you're both wrong, it's synesthetically violet.
none of this works long term; let alone short term
How to waste your time at the gym in 5 easy steps. Nonsense.
Do you eben know Who kelly starrett is? I give much attention to his work and exercises. Actually a gym is wasted time, lol. Thats why kelly has a crossfit Box.
@@hansgruber7829 how do you do the strap at home? Kelly said door way not getting a visual? My scapula have dislocated a ton due to AC joint injury one was repaired that side muscle always a drag and this is a problem for my neck.
Said by man who train wing chun
