      A lot of it is same and not many new or silver bullets. Translation and communicating the nuances in different ways. It’s also important to remember that there are 3 key different swing types /planes and no matter what a golfer tries, their anatomy will always win.

    One of your driver videos helped me enormously, so I watched this for my irons and off I went to the range. I find it very complicated and it raises more questions than it answers. I know I need to take it one step at a time, but how can I make any contact with the grass if my swing plane is delivering the leading edge parallel to, and at the height of, the ball's equator? How do I get my low spot in front of the ball? How should it feel? The technique give me three things to think about during the swing; target, equator and a spot in front of the ball. That just leads to mayhem for me! Where should my focus be? I'm happy to persevere but with so many questions I fear I'll just be practicing getting it wrong.

    I was a scooper and the main thing that helped me with compression/angle of attack was aiming almost at the top of the ball. Imagine holding the a ball in front of you and hitting it between 1 and 2 o'clock. My divots are light scuff marks. Most of my shots are that loud gunshot sound that echos through the woods, very satisfying.

    100% concur with this video.
    I played my first round of golf in _ten_ years last week - with Titleist 681 irons no less - and after a truly horrific 40-ball practice session, I took to the front-nine of the course.
    My concentration and muscle-memory must have kicked-in because what was described in this video is exactly what happened when I flushed the ball on long approach shots - especially the 5-6-7 irons: very small divot, small grass/mud marks _exactly_ on the club-face sweetspot and fantástic ball flight.

    so I am just getting back into too golf, I like the no divot and am getting back to that type of a strike of the ball, I have found the firmer I strike the ball the harder I strike the ball, accelerating through the ball the higher the ball flies, and the better the compression feel the higher the ball flies with no loss in distance... I floated a 9 iron 155 yards and it came to earth coming straight down, is that what I am after or am I hitting the ball too high? I am 70 years old by the way.

    There are literally videos of Tiger coming down steep and taking divots with fairway woods. It’s all dependent on the shot you are trying to play. And did this dude just say to try and add loft at impact?!

    • @TheArtofSimpleGolf
      @TheArtofSimpleGolf  3 месяца назад +1

      For many many golfers especially ones who don’t generate as much speed as they would like these days benefit greatly from this.
      Most who play golf are not Tiger or generate that speed. Big divots with slower speeds mean less distance.
      However there is a lot of proof that Tiger mostly took very very shallow if any divots when he struck the ball well.

    • @PSNabs
      @PSNabs 3 месяца назад

      @@TheArtofSimpleGolf Fair enough but if you’re after more dynamic loft wouldn’t it be easier to just start with more loft on the club rather than encouraging someone to try and present more loft at impact and bring in a host of habits that are going to potentially produce a weaker ball flight? Tiger is obviously at the extreme end of the spectrum but I think even he plays higher lofts because he presents less at impact with his irons.

    Everyone uses the word “compression” but nobody explains what it is. You said to hit the ball “thin” with the leading edge of the club striking the equator of the ball. Do you remember balata golf balls? That technique would have ruined every ball after just one hit. Did the players in Nicklaus’ day not compress the ball? 18 majors and no compression?

    • @TheArtofSimpleGolf
      @TheArtofSimpleGolf  26 дней назад

      Intention is different to the end result. For most, hitting down is how they don’t compresses it’s not saying to actually thin the ball.

  • @donemigholzjr.7344
    @donemigholzjr.7344 3 месяца назад +2

    Bla, bla, bla. Compressing an iron shot used to be almost a trick shot that the pros in the late 1970s used to get balata golf balls to back up on the greens. How it became the standard is not only a mystery but it is ridiculous. it is way too difficult to consistently aim this shot at the flag. Yes, it can be done but with huge amounts of practice and pre-golf round warm-up.
    With Irons, you keep the club face open on a straight path to the flag creating a vortex at the side of the ball as the club releases. Follow through with the classic reverse "C" finishing.
    Then your golf game becomes about balance, your grip, and going for the cup 165 yards out.

    • @TheArtofSimpleGolf
      @TheArtofSimpleGolf  3 месяца назад +1

      @@TheArtofSimpleGolf How much simpler can it be than to keep the club face open on a swing plain to the flag?

    • @mikerodrick2430
      @mikerodrick2430 3 месяца назад

      Why do you guys make it so complicated? Be tension free with consistent light grip pressure & let the club swing on its own, assuming you have consistent posture & grip established. Grip pressure is rarely discussed on RUclips but is possibly the most important factor to the quality of the swing. With too much pressure, you'll never swing properly or max out your distance.

      The issue for most amateurs is trying to hit the ball rather than swing the club through it. Everyone has a great practice swing but put the ball there & everything changes & this includes myself. Some days I wish I could start fresh as a beginner & not have the faults I've ingrained over the years. I didn't start playing until my early 20s & what was being taught back then is almost nothing like what's taught today.
