drink15 what do you think gap insurance is? Gap insurance is optional and sometimes required when taking out a loan for a car or house. You have your main insurance that covers the current book value of the car during total loss, then Gap insurance will cover the “gap” between what the book value and remaining amount owed on said loan. If he didn’t put anything down or very little down, he might owe more on his loan than what the car is worth.

I'm on my second FJ and love them. Bought both new. I'm 6'4 and test drove a 4 Runner and just didn't fit in the seats in terms of shoulder room. I went with the FJ because it has a TON of interior room (at least for the driver and front seat passenger... the back seats are claustrophobic). Agreed on the windshield... I'm due for windshield #4. They get nailed by rocks and then crack. Don't forget Toyota reliability. I'm at about about 200K miles on my second one and no problems whatsoever (and it's been to the Arctic Circle and back). Awesome vehicle.
Hey doug, I'm trying to sell my Honda element, can you make a video like "the element is the severely underpriced FJ cruiser's cousin" so that the market value shoots up 120%?
I live in the Southwestern part of Saudi Arabia where there's mountains and rough terrain and difficult roads.. to make it short; I can't emphasize enough how much I love this car. It is so popular here because of its reputation. It didn't stop in 2014 here, the last model was 2019 and I'm so sad. No modern car is like her; she's got this Oldschool-though-reliable-I'll do it all-I'll be with you for ever-I won't need much from you to operate, and I'm practical as fuck Rare-DNA in it. Thank you Doug for making people know about this sexy piece of Japanese engineering goodness. Note: Excuse my non-native complex sentence-making skills.
I purchased my 2014 specifically because it’s short... I have a small driveway..... Love the vehicle, smooth on road ride and great off road, best of both worlds. Great resale value.... can’t go wrong with this truck.
Makes sense. Either that or E(mpire) or M(etric), because the Japanese interior designer didn’t think of the word I(mperial)...? Strange, I would expect these typos in a car designed by Chinese, but there you have it.
It does, because imperial = English (not necessarily US) units of measurement. American volume measurements are not same as imperial/English, but degrees Fahrenheit are the same everywhere. I still think C and F would have made more sense.
The reason there is no "F/C" is because I am pretty sure that button also changes units for the fuel range, average/instant economy etc. So it is either English or Metrics for everything. That's how it is on my Toyota.
Greg Williams They are girl cars now. I see lots of lesbians driving them here in Florida. In fact I don’t think I’ve seen any being driven by anyone else.

The Real Tmac and the kind that doesn’t understand the function of them is that it’s an off roader so the flooring is easy to clean holds up per the engineers. One of the resale values is the interior takes a beating and if cleaned properly always looks good.
jus1029ph he did get back to me about reviewing mine a few months ago. But agreed it is rather oddly timed. One has to wonder if CNBC didn’t do theirs because of Scotty Kilmer’s.
I know, I got mine two months ago and then scotty Kilmer uploaded a video about the fj. Since then like a huge coincidence I've been seeing videos of fjs recently. I've also started to see a bunch everywhere now as part of the coincidence. Like GTA lol 🤣 once you get the car you want everyone around you gets it.
The light on the side mirror helps spotters judge the width of the vehicle in dark trails. The FJ, Tacoma, 4Runner, Prado, etc share the same underpinnings so they're quite capable and they're tried and true. Think of this as the Japanese Hummer, with the footprint of a Jeep Wrangler.
I like people making videos on supercars because they’re cool to see but as a person who only makes $12 an hour, i know i won’t get one anytime soon. But, it’s much more interesting to see a normal car because it gives us an in-depth view into a car that we might actually be able to attain soon.

It's such a great all around vehicle and can tow 5000lbs, loves to cruise all day at 80 MPH. It's right at home in the nastiest off road environments but yet looks righty at home in the ritziest restaurants when valet keeps it up front. I hope to keep it forever!
19:55 lol, toyota forklifts have the same locking mechanism to hold the engine cover open. never thought they'd reach in THAT parts bin for a road vehicle, but if it works it works right
First i think that too but then i realised the perfect 10 is for quality and reliability and the rich rich interior like alcantara or others rolce royce kind of things.... And we all know toyota is full of cheap plastic....
My dad had one(an '08, if I recall correctly). I lived it, but here are my most memorable takeaways: 1) It sucks to tow a boat with such a short wheelbase. 2) If you do much highway driving, you will need to replace a windshield every six months. 3) They need mid-grade or premium fuel. 4) The backseat was surprisingly spacious, more than the little back door suggests. I have never been in a factory vehicle that felt as solid and controllable in shitty, icy conditions.
@@mikefa2442 The steep angle makes them terrible for high-speed highway driving. Every bug explodes and every rock does significantly more damage than it would with a more conventionally-angled piece of glass. No problem in town or at lower speeds off-road, but at highway speeds nothing will hit the windshirld that you don't know about. And the triple-wiper setup makes changing wiper blades(which you'll do more often because of all the bug juice) more of a hassle than a typical vehicle. Great little trucks, but I wouldn't be in a hurry to buy one for highway commuting/road-tripping.
What’s nuts is that this is a Toyota, renowned for boring designs, even the head of the company admitted their cars are boring. But this still seems almost modern and not from 2010. It’s also really reliable and a funky shape with cool colors. No wonder these things haven’t lost any value really
The FJ cruiser has not been discontinued here in Kuwait. It is one of the most sought after and most reliable cars in the market. Most college kids drive one of those. They hold their value like it's no one's business
Brandon Okkers that makes two of us. I was set on buying a new Jeep Wrangler back in 2012 when the new V6 came out. A friend of mine suggested that I should test drive a few vehicles, including the FJ Cruiser before deciding. I half heartedly booked a test drive in what at the time I though of as an ugly duckling (my views of aesthetics have changed). Fell in love with the vehicle in the first 5 minutes! For various reasons I’ve delayed the purchase. Planning on buying a new FJ next year.
I loved my FJ, yes it wasn't great on gas and it had blind spots BUT it was reliable (Zero problems in 8 years of ownership) Toyota needs to bring back the FJ but even more retro like the original and make it four real doors that are removable with a removable top. (See Bronco) Ford took a shot right at Jeep Toyota should do the same
That style of backup camera is on my '09 Taco, and honestly, despite its size, it's incredibly useful to have a backup camera in the same field of view as the regular rearview mirror. Most modern backup cameras are nice and big, sure, but you have to LOOK AWAY FROM THE MIRRORS THAT ARE DESIGNED TO BE USED TO BACK UP WITH. I'm already looking at the mirror anyway, so it makes sense that the backup cam is there. Way better than some modern mirror cameras that take up the entire mirror for the backup cam (like new Jeeps)
Now go do something quirky that Toyota makes their FJ owners do. Find an empty lot, drive in the smallest circle you can drive to calibrate your compass...
It only discontinued in the US and Canada. It's still on sale in many countries, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Australia......etc. The FJ is actually one of the best selling cars in Saudi. I owned one myself a while ago (2015).
I like the styling and it grows on you. Toyota should bring this back, I agree with you it would be great in today's market. As for those doors...try closing the front door then slam the rear half door closed, makes for an interesting result!
It's a real OFF ROAD car.. that's why it has these features. Easy to clean plastic interior including the floor. I have one and you have no idea how handy it is to be like that. No mud, no sand, no dirty will stay in the carpets. You can literally wash the interior with water and soap and it is as new.
I really came to appreciate the cheap-looking plastic interior everyone gave me crap about after having a kid. In less than 30 minutes I can have the inside go from destroyed to new.

Only if you like mold and rust.
@Vid Jančar I have one and I'm aware of that. Problem is there are many places where water will get under the plastic and into the insulation and onto the metal floorpan. Rust/mold
@Vid Jančar easy to clean with soap and water. I wouldn't hose it out though.

I was thinking Europe/Murica

3) They need mid-grade or premium fuel.
4) The backseat was surprisingly spacious, more than the little back door suggests. I have never been in a factory vehicle that felt as solid and controllable in shitty, icy conditions.
What’s up with the windshields ?
@@mikefa2442 The steep angle makes them terrible for high-speed highway driving. Every bug explodes and every rock does significantly more damage than it would with a more conventionally-angled piece of glass. No problem in town or at lower speeds off-road, but at highway speeds nothing will hit the windshirld that you don't know about. And the triple-wiper setup makes changing wiper blades(which you'll do more often because of all the bug juice) more of a hassle than a typical vehicle.

That style of backup camera is on my '09 Taco, and honestly, despite its size, it's incredibly useful to have a backup camera in the same field of view as the regular rearview mirror.
