That guy is insane!! Paying top dollar for an older vehicle or outrageous unless of course it’s a fully rebuilt classic. Just because this guy thinks these trucks should be worth don’t necessarily make it true or should be that way.
@Gus Johnson Or maybe its because Australia gets a zillion Offroad vehicles that we don't get and have other choices. Some Australian was telling me they also didn't get the 6MT option, and a few other options.
LOL,,,,except for his specs. He really over rated the FJ. IE HP is 239 to 260 on the new engine.
As for mpg ,,,,,,, wow is he off. They suck fuel like mad and the only way to get 20 mpg is down hill with the wind at your back. And yes I had a new off the lot FJ.

I bought my first FJ in 2006, it was a 2007, of course. The day I drove it off the lot (may have been the first one sold in Maine) I said "I am going to drive this truck until it falls apart, then buy another one just like it." This past (2021) summer, my FJ died. The transmission went, so did the head gasket. It had terminal rust The final insult was when I was backing it up and the transmission cable broke.
I loved that truck.
On a trip to Texas, on a lark, I just did a quick online search and found a 2014 that was very close to my original 2007. One fantastic upgrade was the CRAWL kit, which could prove useful here in Maine to get out of a snow situation. I bought the 2014, and cancelled my flight ticket home -- picked up the FJ from the dealer and drove it home to Maine.
I never really questioned if I got a good deal. I wan to drive an FJ in the winter in Maine and I have a new FJ, just like I said I would do.
Addendum: After watching this report, I think I got a great deal on this truck.
My jeep croaked and husband said no more jeeps. I’m a greater researcher, and now I’m pretty puffed up haha Jk, because I found a garaged 08 with new rubber, for $20k with under 75k miles on it. It’s like brand new. I can’t believe it😅🤣🙌🏼😅
I enjoyed the information on the FJ Cruiser. I purchased one of the last Fjs, 2014, cement grey, just turned 14,000 miles, garaged, covered, oil changed every year. I have had many people want to buy my FJ. Practically brand new.
The expert forgot to mention a very important detail: the 6-speed manual FJ Cruiser has a "full-time" 4x4 system as opposed to the 5-speed automatic FJ that has a classic "part-time" 4x4 system. That's because the manual version has a Torsen differential present in the transfer case. That also explains the slightly worse gas mileage of the manual over automatic because the front wheels are engaged all the time.

If you'll notice, as I'm explaining the manual transmission bit they cut the film at 20:54 after "you get the guys who gotta have a manual for everything". I can't remember if that's when they did the battery swap or if they just cut it for time, but that's when I explained the difference between the full-time 4WD for the manual and 2H-4H-4L in the automatic.
(I remember mentioning it during the discussion and had to rewatch the entire video to see that it was cut haha)
I have plenty of friends here who run the manuals, they're considerably better for bad weather as there's never that "should I be in 2H or 4H?" moment. But they're notably harder to offroad than the autos.

That is a nice piece of info to remember: ATRAC is great for rocks and dry trails, RearLocker is great for sand and mud. This guy has spent WAY too much time studying this stuff...but he would be the best guy to have as a buddy if you have an FJ or T4R.

Atrac is amazing for Sand too
ATrac is useful on relatively flat terrain. If a wheel slips it applies the brake to the spinning wheel to transfer power to the wheel with traction.
I find on steep, slippery surfaces (mud, snow, sand) ATrac applies the brakes alternately from one wheel to the other and thus drags the vehicle to a stop.
Evaluate the incline and turn off traction control / ATrac when the surface is slippery. It often is slippery here in Colorado.
Alternatively, just go low range and lock the rear differential.

I've had my FJ for over 15 years. Bought it as loaded as they came for an early 07. ☆factory TRD exhaust looks just like the one on the cement FJ in the video☆

I paid $15,000 for my 2010 (least number sold in the 2010+ line), with 25,000 miles on it. Never off roaded, lived in a city. warrenty had just expired. The seller had baught, but never installed, a snorkel, lift kit, lights, etc. all still in the box. I managed to talk him in to including all the mods for free, as he had no use for them.
There was one catch. I got car jacked by a 5 year old before I even got it out of the driveway.
The seller was my brother. My 5 year old nephew immediately broke down crying when he realized I was taking the FJ. I told him when he gets his driver's license he could have the FJ. He was happy with that sultion. A little too happy.

We have a 2012 FJ it runs perfect plenty of power and torque, we've never gotten stuck and we go to the beach here in South Padre a lot. Has 128,000 miles runs just like it did when we got it new! I didn't like it at first but it is a beast off road! Out drove my Tacoma in 4x4 easily.
I was so confused why my army green 2011 didn’t have badges and was missing things here and there for so long. About 3 years ago I googled tf out of it and discovered exactly what he said. Not so special edition but I love it

Toyota 4.0 is probably one of the last, most reliable powertrains in the world right now lamo.
It’s bulletproof, I have a 2016 not a single issue in the entire vehicle but it does convert 50% of the fuel into heat and noise.
I had to replace the entire engine in my 04 T4R because of the head gasket.
@Rob H I don't even want to think about how much my fiasco cost. Enough that I'd love to drive my 4Runner off a goddam cliff but I've spent too much on it now lol. I'm just hoping it's reliable for a while now, cause if something else major happens my plan is literally to put it in neutral and let it fall off a cliff.
The timing cover seal is a known potential problem by its also something that a DIY person can do and it’s a $10.00 part.
I own a 2008 FJ with 104,947 miles on it, I've changed one battery, one set of tires and have done all the maintenance, never had one single problem, issue, or mechanical breakdown, it's solid as a rock, and made in Japan , will drive it till I'm dead in 30 years lol!!
240,000 miles on my army green 2010 FJ here in Nebraska! I’ve had it for 7 years and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. My grandpa gave me a 1990 Toyota pickup for my first vehicle, and I’ve been a Toyota fan since. I live in the country and commute 65 miles of interstate daily. I use it for deer hunting as well. A lot of deer have been it the back, and with the all plastic interior, it cleans up easily. This is my first non-pickup, and it hasn’t left me wanting in any way. Even after all those miles, I still get excited to drive it every day. The only bad thing is that eventually, it will wear out, and I won’t be able to replace it. 😔 Thanks for the video TFL. I think you made a great choice with this one. If you ever sell it, look me up!

Long post below, please skip if you have ADD!
Any vehicle that becomes a classic, such as FJ40 before this and the FJ Cruiser on the verge of becoming one, loses value if modded (or Mudded). Best you can do is replace original parts if you want to sell. You won't get a dime extra for mods (unless you get a cooperative/desperate/rich buyer).
The reason GX's are going cheaper than V8 4Runners is demand and supply, the cost to mod a GX to make it trail worthy, expensive Lexus parts and and no one likes to destroy nice soft carpeting off-road in the mud. The GX V8s have a little more low end torque but the V6 is pretty close. V6 is lighter, and is much less expensive to fix (starters etc.) Also, the GX is a tarted up Prado designed for the international market, not the US market. Notice the rear door swing into the curb, as opposed to the FJ rear door swing.
Secondly let me (if I may) clear up some persistent confusion on "traction controls".
1. Electronic rear locker. Can only be used in low range, not in high range. Must be engaged only when stopped. It may disengage automatically above a certain speed. Sometimes needs the vehicle to move a little to engage or disengage.
2. Manual Transmission (6MT) is full time 4WD, 5AT is part-time only on FJ. 4Runners/T4R get full time 4WD on Limited's and V8 versions (unavailable now). GX's are V8s with full time only. Old GX's were 4.7L V8s current are 4.6L V8s. GX's have an optional air suspension and rare OR versions have front/panoramic cameras. (I digress). Toyota considers the full-time system more capable in more conditions. AT's in T4R are 5 spd, in GX are 6spd. The FJ 6MT has 3 positions (H,HL and LL) for High, High Lock and Low Lock. The center Torsen Diff which splits torque 40/60 Front/Rear in H gets locked to 50/50 in HL. Helps in snow a lot!
3. Atrac, Crawl Control (CC) and Multi-Terrain Control (MTC) are different systems that are brake based (using electronics) but in principle similar to ABS. CC and MTC cannot be used at the same time and only in 4Lo. Atrac and MTS can be used at the same time. All 4WD's get Atrac. CC and MTC only on OR/Trail versions and dial based. OR 4Runners get both CC and MTC dials, OR FJ's get CC only, on 5AT's only. CC and MTC Dials unavailable on 6MTs. GX's gets MTC dial only, they say everything (Atrac/CC) is already in there. E-locker can be used with MTC or CC but must come to a stop to get in and out of. Computer figures out its e-locked automatically!
4. Atrac uses the brakes to transfer power to the wheel that has grip while the opposite one is slipping. All these diffs are open other than the e-locker in the rear. The MT versions have permanent 4WD a center torsion differential, that can be locked when you switch from to HL or LL. It allows wheels to slip to some predetermined level. Works between 1,500 rpm and 2,500 rpm at< 3mph and can be turned on or off when in motion. Works in HL (up to 7 or 15 mph, I think) and LL but not in H ( in a 6MT).
5. MTC allows the driver to control the amount of slip providing greater control. Rocks with minimum slip (close to a front diff lock in operation) to sand where more slip is allowed for running in sand. Loose Dirt and Mogul are intermediate positions. Automatically cancels over 7 mph.
6. Crawl control, is kind of an off road cruise control and also useful in extracting the vehicle when stuck in sand, since the computer applies wheel torque appropriately to get the maximum control to extract the wheels in sand. Works at up to 6 kmph in increasing 1 kmph speeds using the dial. Touching the brake or gas pedal cancels CC. Temporarily cancels itself if speed exceeds 15 mph due to slope. You need to jump in and take control. Runs for a maximum 12 minutes continuously. Works in forward or reverse.
7. There is a traction (VSC, Vehicle stability control) off switch that can be used in slippery conditions such as mud and snow where it negates any reduction in engine power to aid control and allows the driver to use vehicle momentum when useful. 07-09's didn't have this but there are workarounds.
8. MT's have a feature/button that allows the driver to crank/start the engine when in gear. This prevents the truck from rolling back if stalled on a slope.
9. In an FJ, the 6MT has a 41.84:1 Crawl Ratio, its 33.76: 1 on a 5AT. That would be the same on a 5AT T4R.
Hope this helps someone. I keep a copy of the "traction controls" in my FJ 6MT and T4R TRDOR 5th Gen.

I wholeheartedly agree with ^^^ this. This is one of my difficulties with the FJ being considered a "collectable" vehicle, example: bringatrailer.com/listing/2008-toyota-fj-cruiser-5/
That's an otherwise unremarkable FJ -- '08 Trail Teams, that can be easily replicated by a white FJ from any year -- with 6K miles that sold for $45.5K on BringATrailer. If you buy this truck, mod it then offroad it, in 4 years / 50K miles you end up with the same ~$33K beat-up modded truck that everybody else has, but you have ~$55K into the truck. So it's very hard for me to justify the prices for these very low miles "collectable" FJ's that should never then be used for what they were meant to be used for.
(coincidentally my "garage queen" is a '00 NSX, I'm a big fan of '90's Japanese sportscars and the Supra has the same problem ^^^ as the FJ. sure it can take tons of boost with little modification, that's what it's famous / valuable for, but once you do that and people find out, you lose a lot of the value)
Note that the 6MT FJ gets torsen differentials front and rear as well, not just in the transfer case.

Suspension: OME BP-51's
Bumper: Expedition One w/ Superwinch 9K
Armor: A combination of BudBuilt (main armor plates + sliders) and RCI (rear lower control arm armor)
Mine is a 2018 that came with a silver roof rack, I swapped to a 2019 stock roof rack (black) and added all the TRD Pro front grill / cosmetic parts. I also did the "overlay" black lettering. Wife said "black it out!" so I did that. Favorite part of the TRD Pro grill: painting the TOYOTA the body color to match.

My parents ordered an 07 Fj new one of the first ones it took like 6 months to get it. That truck was amazing I remember driving down k10 in an ice storm/ blizzard and it acted like nothing was going on. It always stuck with me so when I bought my 2020 trd 4runner I got that rush of nostalgia and could not be happier.

2:55 . I have a 2012 Cement color FJ. I backed into a neighbors car a few years ago. I only hit them on the 'cosmetic' plastic cover on the rear passenger side. My Fj only had a couple scratches on that cover (think of maybe a couple 'key' lines, no dents, still sturdy like new). The other vehicle (a Subaru hatchback) had 2k worth of damage: rear fender metal above back driver tire all bent in bad, all the way back to pushing out the back driver side tail light. All I have is a couple scratches in a plastic part that can't rust. Could always take both the rear ones out, sand them, and repaint them. But, no reason to really.
Rear fender? Wasn't aware that vehicles had rear fenders.
Evry time I get into my 2010 to go urban or trails I always have this feeling of confidence and reliability and know that my “little” fj will never let me down and always get me from point A to point B and back to point A again. And again. And again.

I bought my FJ in December of 2006, that thing has driven me all over America while I was in the navy and now that I live in Belgium it’s going all over Europe. I’ve loved that car from the moment I saw, all my friends are still amazed that I have it.
Roman, As a business, TFL faces an entirely different economic proposition than a private owner when it comes to modifying a vehicle. Spending a dollar to get 50 cents back makes no financial sense for the private owner but could work very well for your channel. #AskYourAccountant Please stop spreading news about the GX being a great used deal. Prices will go up for the man in the street ;-)

I love our 2018 fj because of the upright windshield which is very beneficial here in tropical country Philippines, less sun getting in. And it’s easy to get in. Drawback is the doors but you’ get use to it. Awesome ride on long trips too. Nice video!
Both the FJ Cruisers and the 4runners are legendary! I myself daily drive a 3rd gen 4runner with a 5speed manual trans with 4x4 options. I have several plans for my 3rd gen; but need to replace many of the worn parts that these now 20 year plus rides have! I definitely think that it is totally worth modifying these rides; however, they must be done responsibly and effectively, for the future... As these are becoming classics in an Overlanding World. Which these rides are becoming famously used for. My 4runner has over 330, 000 original miles! Take good care and happy journeys! 🏜🌄🏞🗻🏕

I have this exact FJ with no sub woofer. And my interior is all black. Same color but I also have the roof rack. Bought last year from a dealer in Ohio, and shipped to MN. Really appreciate this vid and looking forward to more. I’d say mod it up, as I intend to keep mine stock and want live vicariously through your channel.
I'd say a mild lift and slightly bigger tires and call it good. I'd also recommend keeping it as it will be a classic.
I got mine in Houston several years ago, 07 I did upgrade the rear end
Retired aerospace chief engineer here. I purchased a stock 2013 FJ with 55K miles for $32K back in 2017. It included Crawl Control. Decided to go for the FJ because of the the better HWY speed road manners and cabin comfort when compared to a Jeep. My recommendation is for you to modify it but keep all the original parts. I get lots of compliments on mine and so far both the off and on road performance are Outstanding!!!

(Recently, Upgraded the suspension to ADS Remote Reservoir shocks and coil overs)

Removed all mud flaps

That’s it. This thing can pretty much go anywhere you would dare to take it. It also can do 85mph on the HWY like a luxury SUV.

Thought this was a very interesting video to watch and James certainly knows about FJ's and 4Runners. I always wanted to find an FJ but do run a 2004 V8 4Runner and absolutely love it. Still only at 150,000 miles and looks and works great.

I bought an 07 FJ 4x4 with over 200K miles and I’ve had it for over a year. Off roading and I drive a lot and no issues at all. Upgraded suspension, rock rails, lights, and tires. It’s a sweet dream.

Regarding mods: since you can no longer get a new, stock FJ, I think you SHOULD modify this one slightly - wheels, tires, suspension, sliders, skids, roof rack - and keep it there. Then, hit some of the same trails/challenges you do in your new vehicle reviews/videos.

My 2011 Army green has 76K, 2 1/2 lift 16" wheels and I love it!!
Awesome trucks. I bought my 2010 new for like 30k (offroad package, towing package, and some other add ons). Just hit 162k miles and only replaced the UCA’s earlier this year. They are solid rides.

Four months late to watching this video, but it's great and answers a lot of questions! We own a 2011 not so special, special edition with only 52k miles and a custom roof rack from a company in Australia.
It's my Wife's vehicle she inherited from her farther who was a trucker and unfortunately died in a car accident.
We will never sell it, but I just wish something would break so I can start modding! Dam Toyota reliability 😎
Great video. Friend of mine had one for sale. My wife loved it. 11,000 dollars has 130,000 miles super clean has winch, lights on roof, after market roof rack, new tires. Hope we did ok.

James is spot on about the importance of doing to mods correctly. My general rule is to do the mods in the way the engineers that designed the vehicle would have done if they been able to have a little more fun with things. Longer shocks, bigger tires (that still fit in the wheel wells), free flowing exhaust, and better skid plates (especially up front). Of course, I am highly biased as the owner of a 2010 Off Road that I bought new and have modified in this exact manner. Most capable off road (highway legal) vehicle I've ever driven!
The EGR valve he is referring to is an air injection pump and the oil filter relocation was due to going from one camshaft variable valve timing to dual camshaft variable valve timing it was also a performance gane with that. Great motors. Timing covers will leak and head gaskets can go out. if you start your 4.0 in the morning and it runs rough for a few seconds then smooths out you probably have a blown head gasket. Run some water wetter in the cooling system, it should help prevent it from happening and help keep those water pumps from leaking too.
I had "EGR" stuck in my head because my dad's Dodge RAM is constantly having issues with them, knew it was off when I said it. Was wondering if anybody would catch that :-) well done. And the vacuum sound on shutoff, our 4Runner makes it too.
The presence of that pump (and needing to move it with a bumper install / washer reservoir relocate) is one of the minor issues I note for why the 2010-2012 is probably the best years of the FJ. When you relocate the air pump it takes up the spot that most kits use to mount a 2nd battery (or where the battery is normally mounted on the RHD versions if I remember right).
For 2013 the two changes I'm aware of are that pump and the addition of crawl control (speed only, not MTS as in the later 4Runners). For most of us here in Colorado, ATRAC + Locker is enough to get through obstacles without needing the Crawl Control. So I generally tell local buyers that '13+ trucks are more expensive and not usually necessary.

I've got an 08. Never have ever put a drop of premium gas in mine, and its got over 150k on it... only issue I've ever had is a dead alternator. Mine's got one option that I've never seen in any other FJ - and that is the in dash "GPS navigation system" that goes where the secret dash compartment goes. It really is just a cradle that holds a handheld gps unit but back in 2008 - it was the bomb.
Don’t forget the message about premium was that regular gas is no problem but has less power. You get the 270 HP with premium gas.
I've seen pictures of them online but never one in person, nice find! I suspect the software is a bit out of date at this point :-)

A great mod that you should do to the FJ, which I did to my 4Runner with the same engine, is get the S&B Filter CAI. YOU GET ABOUT 10hp, 20lb-ft torque, and 2 MPG more. $330, but not available in CA, yet.
Thanking you for this video, interesting to note how much James knows his FJ. Which brings me to this question. I am from Australia, I purchased a Yellow 2010 model FJ with 72000 km on the clock, 6 years ago. This vehicle came fully decked with ARB roof racks, ARB bull bars, ARB rear bumpers, rear bar wheel carrier, rear bar 2 jerry can holder, standard rock sliders and spot lights front and rear. I paid 30,000.00 AUD with a full year of rego. The down side is, with the added extras at the rear, with the spare wheel mounted on the left side and jerry can on the right side, the reverse camera was removed by the previous owner and the camera didn't come with the car when i purchased it. But I have no doubt the camera would still work if i had one installed, because when I shift to reverse the rearview mirror still functions but no image. By the way, mechanically my FJ is A1 and I've done less than 100000km on the clock since i purchased it.
My question is, did i get a good deal and is there a video on Australian FJ?

Recommend upgrading to the options you could find on a Trail Team edition: 3" above stock lift, rock rails, underbody armor. Plus could use it as a recovery vehicle for your show by adding a winch.
My 2008 FJ is still a dream to drive, 239,00 KM very durable and reliable.

I'm doing modest upgrades to my 2007. Mostly things that were factory options. OEM rock rails, OEM air dam, Bilstein 5100s, and changing all the trim to black. But also some stealthy things. Light bar in the lower grill and fog lights in the wings. essentially a Voodoo Blue Trial Teams. I off road it, but nothing crazy. Hoping to keep it for a very long time, as a well loved and driven classic. Might be a good way for you guys to upgrade but not get out of control.
Awesome video. Love it. I’d keep it close to stock... maybe a lift but I definitely wouldn’t do bumpers and what not. Keep it as a cash back up for the channel.

I had a 2019 TRD 4runner and it really disappointed me with its amenities for the cost. The monthly payment hurt. Now I'm 25k miles into a 2013 GX460 and absolutely love it for all the reasons stated in this video. Even more exciting as more companies have jumped onto the GX bandwagon and have released cool products.
Damn, I had a Hornet Yellow Series II here in Oz, and I sold it, regretted it every day since. I'm looking at buying another one tomorrow to remedy that mistake.
I bought 2014 Cement this year in March in Fresno, Ca. Only upgrade it has is the Method wheels with 285 70 17. Bfgs KO2. Had 120k miles wanted 26k I paid 25k. Super clean and does not seem like it had been offroad. Loving it so far. Has now been offroad a few times and performs great. I also have a 2008 Tundra thats has upgrades as well. So I'm a big Toyota Fan. I have since added protection, RCI offroad rock sliders, Engine skid, transfer skid, transmission skid, and rear lower arm skids. What roof rack did you guys purchase. That's my next set up. I have now also order Reszfab rear arms. Has the Oldman emu set up. Bx built is custom making headlights for me. Looking forward to watching this build from you guys. Big fan of your show.
I bought the 2011 model ( Australia) fully optioned V6 for $42,000.00 on road. Black with the white roof. I did a lot of beach work and sand hill driving. Very capable vehicle, the only thing we found was a negative was the back entry opening outwards towards the sidewalk because we drive “ right hand side.” We had it for 5 years and put 180,000 klms on it and sold it for $40,000.00

I was waiting for more info on the Manual 6 speed FJs and have wanted to see how fun one would be with the Maggie blower. I have it in my 4R and love it. If TLF put a magnuson/TRD/ blower on its Fj to make it less slow (especially up at that altitude) as your resale value isnt going to get hurt anyway and the blower will definitely keep resale high and give you an excuse to run high octane & tow more! The supercharger makes it more powerful than any V8 4R/Lexo/Prado @350hp/355tq crank...and sounds cool as a fan(bc it is!) Think LS1 swap power 14.1@96-97 quarter mile at sea level.
Bought my 2011 TTE 149xxx miles for $19800. I live in NH, the vehicle was from Florida and was in NH for 1 year at the time I purchased it ( it was for sale for 1 day at a dealer and bought before anyone else could have a chance - I really wanted it lol). Nearly zero rust. Seats in great condition except for the arm rests which show some wear and tear. The outside had some tree rash (scratches) but whatever. Love the truck, and everyone else in public does as well. Always getting compliments.
That was awesome. Stories and specs that nobody else knows.

Have an '08 Fj with 207,000 miles and still running strong. It's been through 4 feet floods, mounds of rocky dirt and harsh northeast winters. Engine and transmission as smooth as when it left the lot - well, almost lol.
You guys should do more of these model year differences with an expert. Do some of the old stuff too. Every generation of 4runner would be cool.

I have the same weird trim. 😂 I have the off-road package and the subwoofer, but none of the rock sliders, roof rack, or anything. Mine also didn't have a towing package. I installed my roof rack and towing package after market.

I have a white top 2012 FJ. Checking the paint edge between the lower body paint and the roof, it’s pretty clear the white paint (flat) was done first, then the body (metallic) was done second. Not the other way around as described in the vid.
Great video TFL Team! It was awesome to find reference to the 1 of ONLY 51 made NSSE (Not So Special Edition) FJ Cruiser's from 2011. I own the automatic version of this unique "Package 3" and have the manufacturer's window sticker to prove it. Some facts of the story in video were incomplete per my research. Toyota did not "forget" to fully equip Trail Team models in 2011, this does not sound logical. I found information (needs validation) that suggests that the massive tsunami that hit Japan in 2011 caused significant production delays and washed many vehicles/parts out to sea. Toyota was short the necessary accessories to complete the first two batches of FJ Trail Team package during January (23 units) and February (28 units). My understanding is these first 51 production units were shipped to US incomplete of the full Trail Team options and the unique "Package 3" was created specifically for these 51 FJ's! Some were sold as is and some were accessorized by dealers. Feedback on forums from early 2011 buyers suggests that pricing was inconsistent because some dealers mistakenly tried to sell them at Trail Team invoice but clearly did not have the full options. In a few cases, some dealers were unsure how to price these unknown "Package 3"s and negotiated TRD accessories into deal to please potential buyers. It is assumed that the remaining 2011 Trail Team vehicles (2449 units) were fully optioned from March 2011 and onward. Glad I bought my NSSE used in 2014 with 25K miles, it now has 50K miles. I love the provenance and mystery that comes with this Army Green Machine. Any chance you can help validate this with Toyota?
I’ll say modify it just a bit like the basic stuff, bigger tires, some underbody protection, a small lift 2” to 3” and if you want a winch US OFF-ROAD sells a nice winch-mount that fits nicely into the original bumper. I have it on mine and it looks like it came that way from factory
I didn't realize the changes Toyota made to later FJ years. I have a 2008 and putting the oil filter on the top so you just have to reach in and unscrew it was an act of genius. The smog stuff and the oil filter on the bottom in later years would definitely be a detractor for me (but then again I do my own oil changes).

My jeep croaked and husband said no more jeeps. I’m a good researcher, so I dug in. I remembered seeing the Fj but didn’t know much about them. But I sure found out!
And then I started looking and just three days later, I found a garaged 08 Fj with new rubber, for $20k with under 77k miles on it. It’s like brand new. I can’t believe it😅🤣🙌🏼😅 it was on FB marketplace. The guy was a homebody who wants the new Bronco. I feel like I hit the jackpot, picked it up just three days ago!!!! The blind spots are already getting easier to work with too.
Wow, lot of info about FJ and surprised to hear the after market price on those. As for mods I love to mod but as long as it looks stock. That's the reason I mod all my 4Runners while keeping the stock look.

Just picked up a 2010 with offroad package for 20k. Prices for these are insane i just hope they keep appreciating the way they have. Keeping mine stock and going light on the offroad. It's our family car I intend to take my wife and kids on little adventures here and there.
Create a news series "Upgraded: Before and after" with comparison of vehicles before and after updgrades. Same trail test comparisons, off road felx index testing, clearance, approach angles, capabilities, etc. Then you can also run the same series for cars and 0-60 times, cornering etc. So many people buy something with the desires to upgrade and improve and you could be part of the teaource they turn to to get what they need.
You know roman/ timmy, it would be cheaper for you guys to import a used FJ from Dubai. A lot of expats take their cars with them when they move back to the USA. For the price you paid for it (USD 33,000 if I remember correctly) you can get a brand new FJ from Dubai export focused dealers. The added cost for shipment to a port such as California would be USD 4,350. I know this because I was thinking of doing it myself. Its interesting how the math works on this. The only concern I would have is the emissions testing in the USA and any state specific regulation or law
