I used to sell Levi's jeans for a few years and in my experience, there could just simply be manufacturing defects between jeans sometimes. Sometimes I'll pick up a two pairs of the same jeans in the same size and same fit and colour way, and they'll both have different fits and feels to them. The factories and machines that make them are incredibly consistent, but they're not perfect.
spot on. There is slight variation from pair to pair. Thats why I always try them on in a store when Im buying them. PLus...Levis 93 are the king of jeans right now. Smashing that grunge, shoegaze look right outta the park!!
I've noticed that as well, ex Levis 514 I have the faded and dark wash version. The faded actually have a wider leg boot cut openings with more loose relaxed thigh area than the dark wash version which is slimmer straight leg feel to it
Levi's is ALL. OVER. THE. PLACE. in terms of sizing. You could literally be holding 3 pairs of 32x34 501 jeans in the same colorway, same factory, same model and EACH one will fit wildly different. My only thing to suggest is to go into a store and physically try on the jeans or if you must order online buy 2-3 pairs and return the ones that don't work. Sadly, I don't see this changing anytime soon since they've always been known for inconsistent sizing even when they were manufactured in the US. But you were being nice when you said "that's what makes each pair special" and in a big way, that's the "Treasure Hunt" aspect of Levi's jeans.
I wear 32x36, they are very hard to find in a store... I ordered a half a dozen pairs from LEVI online, and two of them weren't even close. I JUST learned that there is a '93 version about a half hour ago. Those are the ones I want, in my size. I went online to levi's and found them. They cost $98.00 a pair. WTF?
As a woman , the '93 are much more comfortable and flattering on me. They sit higher on my waist and have more room for my hips and don't make me look like I'm wearing men's pants.
I absolutely love Levis and have been buying 1 - 3 pairs every year for the last 10 years. That said, your experience with sizing is the EXPECTATION when I buy a new pair. I own several 505s, 501s, 501 '93s , 551 z's, 511s, carpenter, and vintage versions as well. Of these jeans, I found the 511's to be the most inconsistent of them all lol. I have two that are gray 34x30 and one fits me SUPER skinny, and the other fits me so loose hahaha.
Okay, serious question: how do you go through three jeans per year? Are they your only bottoms and you do physical labour in them? Are you a collector?
The inconsistencies are so strange, wouldn't be surprised if they were manufactured in different countries as well. Also I'm all in for the progression towards cat-fashion-tube haha.
Also, the Levi’s 501 93’ PREMIUM jeans have the better quality materials, such as the leather back-patches thicker materials, and better fit than the regular 501 93’ version.
Levis sizing is always weird for me. The I can never fit into any of them especially the new 501s. As my thighs and calves are just not made for them. But ironically the Levis jeans that Ive got from my dad which are about 20yrs old fit me perfectly ~ materials where also better than the new 501s
I'm 5'11", and I also wear a 32x32. When I was younger we would always buy them as Shrink-to-Fit. So if you wanted a 32x32 you would buy a 34x34. They started selling Pre-Shrunk later and you could just buy your size. I have some pairs from the 1980s that belonged to my father that are made in USA. They are 36x34 on the tag, but the fit is 34x32. I recently bought some new 501s and they're too big and it seems not pre-shrunk. So I boiled them on the stove and put them in a hot dryer, and got them down a little. But they're still over an inch longer than my old 501s that I've worn and washed dozens of times. So I think they keep shrinking over time as you wear and wash them. But there are definitely inconsistencies depending also on when and where they were made. The current pair say they're made in Egypt. If you don't want them to shrink, wash them in cold water and hang them up to dry. If they're already feeling tight, just wear them to break them in and then don't wash them hot and then put them in a hot dryer.
No matter what you say, the troubled smile is throughout 😂👌Thank you for the 93 introduction. I didn’t know there was another version to the 501 Original.
I'm a bit shorter than you so i bought the Levi's 501 93 cropped and i love them. The fabric feels a bit more stretchy than regular 501 and my legs appreciate the extra room 🤣. Great video, now I'm anxious for next week's one.
This video popped up at JUST one of the most convenient moments, since Levi's has given out discounts for people thus week via email. Should really help people in the market looking for these ranges.
There was only one jean to wear and that was the Levi 501...I've since changed and now wear PAIGE. The fit is better for my body type, I normally buy the Croft. Look forward to next week's video.
Tight thighs are the reason why I no longer wear 501s and I used to love them. Then I discovered Lee 101Z and it's a huge upgrade as far as quality and fit are concerned. Give them a try!
Just tried on some 505's in store. I tried multiple colors all with 32 length and either a 33 waist and 34 waist. The difference in the sizing was ludicrous. The 34 waist were literally 2 inches bigger everywhere, in the quads, in the lower legs, super baggy. It was such a difference I couldn't help but laugh it was like a completely different cut of jean.
Hi Harry! Great video. Speaking as a former Levi’s employee. The reason why you have the premium label and the leather patch is that there are three tiers to Levi’s jeans. The first tier is considered outlet, which is the grey 93 straights in your video with the more vintage looking patch and no premium label. These tend to either have more or less material and can be considered a true budget pair. The leather patch and premium label are more self explanatory, you’ll find those with a higher quality look and feel in your flagship stores in major city’s, no outlets obviously. The third tier is Levi’s blue label. These are the highest quality denim Levi’s make and they usually have a blue leather patch. These can usually be found in big flagships, ie. Toronto, New York, Los Angeles.
I never buy my normal waist size with Levi’s and most other brands. I always go a size or two up knowing they’ll shrink perfectly in the washer/dryer. I don’t like my jeans feeling tight around my waist/hips as well. This has been the perfect hack for me. I also love to wear a belt with any of my pants. I highly recommend this to anyone who’s having sizing/fit issues with jeans. This method makes the jeans feel way more comfortable to wear as well.
It's 00:02, I watched Real Men Real Style guide to Levi's Jeans and I'm more confused than before. I don't need sleep I need answers. Lovely intro, I've noticed you've done for me in particular.
I’ve learned that any shade of dark jeans I’ve worn feels different than the blue variants. The fabric and fit of the dark jeans are always inconsistent.
There is a difference in quality and you can tell by the stitched label on the back of the waist. If its leather (like your classic 501) its acually a more quality piece than if it’s more like a cardboard (like your 93's).
I have the same issue with jeans. I recommend trying the loose jeans and athletic straight jeans by Abercrombie. The baggiest model in nudie also worth a try
Those regular 501s are from the Levi's premium line not the standard one. It has the leather patch instead of paper and more stitching apparently. It would have been nice to compare the 501 '93s with the standard line 501s. Anyway I also find Levi's sizing inconsistent as well.
Dude you over looked the most obvious difference, country of manufacture. Levi's made in Egypt, Mexico, USA run true to large, made other places like Pakistan they run smallish.....check your country of manufacture and add it to the chart. Cheers.
Have this exact same issue. Recently said goodbye to my slim fit jeans and got myself some 501’s. Haven’t owned a set since the 90’s so went with my usual sizing. WAY too tight in the thigh (cycling/weight lifting legs) but I assumed they’d stretch out after a few wears but nothing. I also have 555 96’ and 568’s to use in the meantime but unfortunately I’m gonna need to sell my 501’s and grab a couple 501 93’s as an alternative. Anyway awesome video/advice.
A like just for the "sleep" humour at the beginning. But I did enjoy the rest of the video too. I actually bought 3 pairs of Levi's ( 2 pairs of 502s and a 511) while in NY last October. Definitely a lot cheaper than the UK at about £120 for the 3 pairs. Quids in!
I loved my 93’s. I made sure I bought the premium 93’s instead of the regular ones. I had to buy my 93’s a little shorter in the length because they are made too long in the length.
I wanted to know the quality of the denim in 501 and 501 93' is the same or if it has some difference between them?? I mean thickness, heaviness??? Please reply
I’ve had the same with G-Star jeans, where the same model, size & fit will differ with different colours. I also had similar issues with FCUK knit jumpers, that I bought a jumper in both navy and grey, the grey one would be more fitted and stay that way, as opposed to the navy. That happened twice, several years apart. It was either a fluke or there’s something about colours and fabrics reacting in a way that results in a difference in fit.
I've only had bad experiences with Levi's my whole life. I never knew about their sizing inconsistency fame lol. I'm willing to try again, but I think I'll go with vintage this time. Wish me luck haha
501s comes in many models. Regular, 93, Slim Taper, Customised Taper Then the materials, we have non stretch, 1% elastine, 2% elastine and then the cool performance which has some other materials to wick off moisture. Next the version, we have the regular, the premium, the premium selvedge, made n crafted and Levi’s vintage clothing. What makes worst are those 90s, heck those sizing are sick. Never quite understand why. I meant those literally made during the 90s. Don’t even bother talking about those in the 70s. So in short , you will never get enough sleep over your 501s. I have it different versions the last 35 years and I still don’t get why. The sizing is everywhere. But heck, get some sleep anyways. Quality Never Goes Out Of Style
i fitted a lot of levis in store over the years. mostly 511s. they all had different measurements maybe consistent when comparing same colors of one tranch of one fabric day.
At the end, I think that Edwin delivers the best jeans with consistent sizing, quality and better fit over the range, they might be a little more pricier, but they are really worth it
Sigh...read some of the comments. People just do not want to put the work in to wear 501 jeans. It does seem that the 501s the commentor was talking were already shrunk. So 1/2 the work has been done. Now the hard part is to wear them for a few days without washing them. Then wash them and repeat till they fit like butter. That's how when I brought 501 shrink-to-fit was done. Now a days people want to skip and it might not workout. Also jeans were never met to be sent to the dry cleaners. Also since Levi moved their factors out of country, the 501s are missing that certain smell that you new these are Levi's 501s. I'm just saying.😎
Really wanted to watch this video but unfortunately I also had to go to the bathroom for a No.1 while wearing 501's so had no time left for the day to do so..
Not sure if this is because I dry my jeans using a dryer but, my 501 black pair of jeans have gone too white around the seams and around where my pockets where my phone would be. And the button up flies are only annoying when I’m drunk 💀
Loved your comment about consuming more long form content 😅 call me old school but I personally cannot stand shorts and reels and I don't even have a tik tok because I feel like you can learn loads more from watching full length videos like this! Side note: I know if I start producing content myself I'll have to do a fair share of shorts and reels though 🙃
I'm 6'5 with muscular thighs and prefer relaxed or athletic fit for the taper. I stumbled upon the 550s, and they are perfect. I like the higher rise on them and the fact they are relaxed but not baggy. I want to try the 501 93s to see how the fit is. Great video! Made me chuckle a few times "sessions, sections, seconds"
Overwashed light blue will always feel softer and have more give than black denim especially if that black is not as overwashed as those lights I'm assuming this is why they felt stretchier
I find the button fly to be a lot more comfortable than a normal zip fly but it is kinda awkward using it in a urinal or a public space cause I always feel like it looks weird buttoning it up rather than pulling the zip up.
great video ,was just looking to get levis,so this was perfect 93's i believe will be great ,thanks for the measuring part also.always fun to watch, please stay safe always-have a great week👍🇺🇦🇬🇧🇺🇸
I wear pretty much exclusively shrink to fit 501s. They run much much larger in the top block and thighs. The regular 501s aren’t worth the money for me because they are basically skinny jeans with a large leg opening. They also only have 4 buttons instead of 5 in size 30.
Ye mate ur right I bought a pair of 501 and regretted it too wide at the bottom almost boot fit like far too heavy probably be ok in winter with boots but might get them tapered
Since i hit the gym also, this has been my problem with my ol 501 (stranggling my thighs!), i should check this 93 out since im planning to get a black pair of jeans. Very helpful vid btw :-)
Ive been buying Levis the last few years and I am sure they are just labelling all their jeans wrong. None of the styles I have bought are the same or half or one fit and half are a diff fit for the same style. Sometimes , its mixed and matched. Levis seems to have shipped their QC to china. That is that it dosn't exist.
I wanted to know the quality of the denim in 501 and 501 93' is the same or if it has some difference between them?? I mean thickness, heaviness??? Please reply
Just bought the regular 501's on sale last week and had same thoughts. Bought them in my regular waist size, and my ass and thighs feel sooo constricted, while the bottom is quite baggy. It doesn't look that bad, especially when you cuff the jeans, but the feeling is bad. I think I'll sell them and get the 93 version. Thanks Harry!

Levi's jeans are much thinner and only have 32 inch inseam in Singapore to suit the climate but not for short guys
Looks like they just walk into jean factories in cheap manufacturing countries, and get them to sew on a Levi label

Side note: I know if I start producing content myself I'll have to do a fair share of shorts and reels though 🙃
I love RUclips and love long form content. I’ll always enjoy it more than short stuff
@@HarryHas amen to that man!
Made me chuckle a few times "sessions, sections, seconds"
try the 551z
@@ForsakenForeskin Never heard of the 551z but im def gonna look into them. thanks for the suggestion
Ive noticed, that light blue levis always a bit bigger
Overwashed light blue will always feel softer and have more give than black denim especially if that black is not as overwashed as those lights I'm assuming this is why they felt stretchier
I find the button fly to be a lot more comfortable than a normal zip fly but it is kinda awkward using it in a urinal or a public space cause I always feel like it looks weird buttoning it up rather than pulling the zip up.
Excellent video on the Levis 501/501 93 jeans
Nice video as always Harry!! Greetings from Puerto Rico !!!! :)
Thanks a lot bro
Hey Harry, I was wondering what are your thoughts on Massimo Dutti!?
great video ,was just looking to get levis,so this was perfect 93's i believe will be great ,thanks for the measuring part also.always fun to watch, please stay safe always-have a great week👍🇺🇦🇬🇧🇺🇸
Thanks a lot for watching
Different factories could have different size measurements. A Made in USA 30x32 may actually measures different with a Made in Asia 30x32.
You should have bought 501 regular with stretch to keep the comparison more accurate.
what brand of white t shirt are you wearing man?? it has a great fit👌🏻
Thanks mate. It was one of my own tees I used for a design I did a long while back
@@HarryHas you should sell them lol its better than most brands white Ts
Have you tried Levi's 505 as it may address the thigh area issue?
I have. They are harder to get hold of in the UK
with the washing the fit changes! denim is a bit complicated when it comes to fitting.
Style tips for shorter guys?
Video on the channel already 🤟
Relevant question is where those jeans are made. US made 501's are absolutely different then ones made in Turkye, Bangladesh, China etc. etc.
Hi, thanks for posting this. It is now 7 months since you posted this. Is fit of the pants still the same after several washes or have they shrunk?
Finally I’ll get some sleep 😴 great vid btw 👏
There’s also now the 54 version which I really like. It’s a bit slimmer
Hey man. How's the support on the 501 93 lol? I'm. In this cunerdrum atm trying to work out whicj one I should get lol.
Ugh thanks bro its 4am and im up thinking about jeans
I wear pretty much exclusively shrink to fit 501s. They run much much larger in the top block and thighs. The regular 501s aren’t worth the money for me because they are basically skinny jeans with a large leg opening. They also only have 4 buttons instead of 5 in size 30.
The 501 that were made in Canada and USA were the best from the 80s and 90s. Quality
That's a gorgeous sweater you're wearing. Where is it from?
Weekday
Ye mate ur right I bought a pair of 501 and regretted it too wide at the bottom almost boot fit like far too heavy probably be ok in winter with boots but might get them tapered
I liked them cus they fit over cowboy boots.
501 93' are definitely a lot more comfortable vs regular.
Can’t do buttons one of the hands is after brain stroke what’s similar with zipper? Cheers.
You should try the brand Mavi good quality slightly higher in price
What white T-Shirt are you wearing in this video?
Which Cargo pants is the best could upload a video please ❤️
What's the difference between 501, 501XX and 501 '81?
And what's the difference between Big E 501 (Premium, 2022), 501 '81 and 501 '93?
Great video! Exactly what I need to know✌️
Thanks mate
Since i hit the gym also, this has been my problem with my ol 501 (stranggling my thighs!), i should check this 93 out since im planning to get a black pair of jeans. Very helpful vid btw :-)
Glad to have helped mate.
Didn't aid sleep, another great video😇
Thanks a lot mate
after using them, did they all stretch to where they were more comfortable in the seat area?
I think levis start with one type of jeans and then color them. Using darker colors shrink jeans more
Did you wash an dry them before this video?
Ive been buying Levis the last few years and I am sure they are just labelling all their jeans wrong. None of the styles I have bought are the same or half or one fit and half are a diff fit for the same style. Sometimes , its mixed and matched. Levis seems to have shipped their QC to china. That is that it dosn't exist.
The blue 93 pair is great except for being distressed
I wanted to know the quality of the denim in 501 and 501 93' is the same or if it has some difference between them??
I mean thickness, heaviness???
Please reply
The thickness and quality of the cloth is the same or it has some difference between them?????
Just bought the regular 501's on sale last week and had same thoughts. Bought them in my regular waist size, and my ass and thighs feel sooo constricted, while the bottom is quite baggy. It doesn't look that bad, especially when you cuff the jeans, but the feeling is bad. I think I'll sell them and get the 93 version. Thanks Harry!
That’s what happened to me with them. I would also recommend sizing up one or two sizes
You took the intro from the book Why We Sleep: The New Science of Sleep and Dreams
I have actually never heard of it
I think the absolutely best version of the 501s are the women 501. Higher rise, very comfortable and same straight fit
Wouldnt wearing the 501’s with stiff thighs eventually loosen. Since denim slowly stretches in nature after wears ?
Hi there, nice video! May I ask you what sweater are you wearing in the video? Thanks in advance
Daniel Cable Knit Sweater from Weekday
Thanks. It’s from weekday but sold out
Very kind! Thanks guys
oh I love this backdrop
Glad to hear. Thanks
Have you looked into 505's? I wear 505 because I have the same issue with you. my thights are pretty big
Mans been hitting the gym
