@@vincenthooi1363 I have my seamstress replicate the original hem, which she is very good at, so as they wear they look right, I hate seeing jeans shortened with the wrong colour stitching and too large a hem, it reminds me of when my mum used to shorten my jeans as a kid.
I’m in the same boat, as I use to prefer the 511s, but recently picking up the 512s has made me realize this is my go to pair of jeans. The fit is more clean, as you can pair it well with boots and sneakers with no break.
Same! I also go for 511 and 512. But I've been liking the taper of 512 nowadays; I feel it's more modern. My last 2 purchases were 512, so I feel It's going to be my go to jeans from now on.

It's the same with pretty much all denim: look at the waist measurement (not the size), rise, and whether or not the style is unsanforized, sanforized, dark or light wash to make your decision
Also to keep in mind that I have the 511 in a black wash and a light wash and I also have a pair of 511 Premiums that almost fit like a straight fit compared to the regular 511s. They make the regular 511s look like a skinny fit.
i've noticed with Levi's overall the fit is all over the place for even the same model of jeans. I recently bought two pairs of 541s from the Levi's website and one pair fits perfect while the other pair fit's baggier and the waist is too big, and both are supposed to be the same style and same size. The quality of Levi's has gone down the drain since they became popular again, and while the quality has gone down the price has went up. I remember years ago when a pair of Levi's cost $35.00 and now it's $50 - $70. I know part of that price change is due to inflation but it's also just because they are popular and Levi's knows people will still buy them even with a higher price tag.
I'll be 63 very soon. Had stopped wearing jeans when I was 23, and never Levi's because I couldn't afford them back then. In fact, during a second bout of pneumonia late last year, I chose to wear this when hospitalised (covered by blanket so that the nurse wouldn't ask me to change to "patient garb", until the second day). I also bought a second pair - a Made in Egypt 511 Slim Fit. I didn't know how suitable it would be on an early 60s guy (about your size). Another 505 and a 502 Taper Slim. Both are Made in Vietnam and of the same denim material as far as I can see and feel. This 505 isn't as comfortable as the previous store-bought pair though. The 502 is actually the main thing I wanted to talk about, to keep in line with this video's topic after the long background :) I love the look and feel, and this appears to be the most suitable for me. super helpful to me, the numbers and the descriptions were not helpful to me, this video was. ended up going with 541s and hopefully they will fit well. thanks so much!
I could never find jeans that fit me until I discovered stretch denim. Now I prefer the 510s with stretch. They hug my waist, which other jeans do not, and I like the snugness through the thighs and calves. We are both about the same size. I'm 5'4", 120 lbs. My favourite look is a pair of dark-washed jeans with a crisp white dress shirt and black double monk straps.
513 are for cowboy boots without excessive boot flare. but they are not making many of them anymore... which is what brought me to this video- trying to find an alternative.
511s for me. Something to keep in mind though, is that Levi's uses different fabrics for different washes, so the fit may not be the same. In particular, they change the ratio of cotton, lyocell and stretch. Not long ago I bought a pair of 511s in a similar wash to what you have here, and I had try several pairs before I found one that fit how I wanted.
yeah, it's always good to read ratio. Personally, I like 99% cotton and 1% of that stretchy stuff they put. I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't like 100% cotton too.
This video was a life saver for me. I've always loved 501's but after I purchased a couple pairs 2 years ago, they were unwearable after awhile. I couldn't even lift my leg comfortably when walking up stairs or getting into my car. I tried a pair of 510's that I found used for cheap and I liked them, though I didn't like where the waist wanted to sit. After watching this video I tried 512's and they are just right. I like to think the 512's are a 511 above the knee and a 510 below the knee if that makes sense. I play music, love rocking a pair of black levi's on stage and they fit nice and tight, without sacrificing my ability to move around on stage. I wish they made the 501's in stretch because I love having the button fly.

I used to own a pair of 512s, now I'm replacing them with 511s to try something new. The first thing I've noticed is that the 512s have much bigger pocket entrances. Maybe its just because my old pair was worn in, but I can barely fit anything in here XD
yeah that's weird because the 512's and 511's are supposed to be the same from the knee up. 512's are basically 510 from the knee down and 511 from the knee up
I don’t know, Brock. I could be set in my ways, but if you asked me which pair looks the best on you I’d say the 510 skinny, and it’s not even close. If you sized up on the waist for comfort and hemmed to a no break or a quarter break they’d be perfect. Just my opinion.
as a dude with ...beefier... thighs, I have been a big fan of the 531. After wearing them regularly for a while and going back to the 541, the 541 just feels too loose below the knee. I have heard people say that Levi's 501s kind of break in and form to your body over time as you wash them and wear them. Not necessarily the old school "shrink-to-fit" but just with wear they will fit better. Is this true? I was thinking about trying them, but maybe sizing down as I prefer a slimmer fit
I do not find this to be true with any except the shrink-to-fit. While I love a button fly, like Brock, I find that the 501's are just too roomy and too much fabric for my frame. In my adult years, I've never been happy with the fit of any 501's I've purchased, and have ended up giving them away. IMNTBHO, if you're a smaller frame guy, so with one of the slimmer fits.
depends on the colour/material. The 501s with 100%/99% cotton I tried were ridiculously baggy in my size. The ones with 5% polyester were an almost perfect slim fit though - like they used to be in the 70s/80s. I prefer the higher rise, button fly and wider leg opening compared to something like a 511 @@scottd.3382
511 Slim 32 32 has been the best off the rack for me, perhaps a bit big in the waist, but in a 30 32 they don't fit my legs😆. Which one would be similar to the 511 with a bit more leg room so I can buy a 30 so it fits better in the waist? Or does that not exist?
Hi Brock, great video. I like your style because our body size is similar so it applies to me. I like those shoes you are wearing in this video, can you please tell me the brand and model? Thanks Mike
my go-to use to be 511s but I gained muscle in my legs and some fat, lol on my waist and 511s now just fit to tight in the thighs for me. I had all my jeans packed away for summer and when I unpacked them this winter my 511s ended up fitty like ultra skinny jeans. I decided to go with 541s and I like them although they are a bit to baggy for my liking so I'm going to try some 531s and see how I like those. I just ordered 3 pairs after watching this video.
Thanks Brock, remembered you did a guide on these while I was out. Went 511 since they didn't have a 512 long enough. I'm not a huge fan of cuffing, but alas
Great video! Thank you for addressing that we are all shaped differently! My personal preference is the 541 since I have more room in the seat and thighs ❤️
Thanks for a useful video. I have a hard time finding the cut and color I like in stock with Levi's so I often move on to something else. Is it time to bring back pegged jeans? I think you could pull it off.
Good video! I don't think the 513s are available anymore... they were my favorite! What I find very frustrating with Levi's are the discrepancies in fit and rise depending where they are made. Another thing to consider is the sizing of your jeans. It can give the cut of the leg a different look. In my case, 5'6" in shoes, 182 lbs (not fat 😉) but 33 inch waist. 513s are just a little looser in the legs than the 511 which I also wear.
@@marcthibault8723 yep theres a 531 athletic fit version... not availably in europe tho.. ive been cycling a lot during the summer and now that i cant wear shorts anymore i found my pants to be way to tight arouht the tighs. Apparently the atheltic fit option is only available in the states. real bummer. ive been searching around and found really good looking jeans/pants that have the right proportions but you just cant by them in europe. 🤡
Great video Brock. Perfect timing as I have been considering buying 511 or 512 jeans. Personally 512 is my preference. However, would you say both are timeless fits? :)
hey if i may ask, what is the width of the thigh area for the 541s and 505s? i'm someone around your height and i really dig the look of both of those jeans but i have pretty big thighs so i'm wondering if they would fit me or not. thanks
I used to buy 514 but they dont really sell them anymore they told me 511 were the only similar but they fit me to skinny only 2 colors fits me perfect not to loose and to tight do you recommend me 512 ?

511 Slim 32 32 has been the best off the rack for me, perhaps a bit big in the waist, but in a 30 32 they don't fit my legs😆.
Which one would be similar to the 511 with a bit more leg room so I can buy a 30 so it fits better in the waist?
Or does that not exist?
Probably 513 (slim straight)
Hi Brock, great video. I like your style because our body size is similar so it applies to me. I like those shoes you are wearing in this video, can you please tell me the brand and model? Thanks Mike
Thank you. That was useful & clarifies many a doubt.Very clear & precise. Thank you bomce again .
Very informative and helpful comparison video! Thank you!
My problem with Levi's as a short guy is that they don't seem to offer a 28" length. Nothing shorter than a 30" availalbe.
really good vid man, thanks for the info
my go-to use to be 511s but I gained muscle in my legs and some fat, lol on my waist and 511s now just fit to tight in the thighs for me.
Does the 541 have a narrower leg opening than the 531? Have an athletic body type but looking for a pair that looks decent with Chelsea boots
I believe 541 is slightly narrower leg than 531. But 531 might work better over boots.
531 slims more than 541. And agree with above. If you wanna pair with a boot, get 531's. they look fantastic
I love my 512 but my legs are getting a bit bigger because of the gym so I don’t know if I should size up or get a diffrent fit
This is so far the best comparison video of Levi's jeans.
thank you so much for this video, Brock! Incredibly helpful and useful
I love the 541s but they don’t look super tapered with my 25” inseam 😂
Great review, thanks. I think the 513s would look good covering the top of boots or any boot-style athletic shoe.
I wish they made jeans progressively larger with longer inseam... I'm 6 foot with 20 inch thighs and 501s look very slim on me.
Great video! Ordering those jeans are so tough because no two pairs fit exactly the same even if the fit is the same.
Thanks Brock, remembered you did a guide on these while I was out. Went 511 since they didn't have a 512 long enough. I'm not a huge fan of cuffing, but alas
is there a company with similar cuts as levis that doesnt have any design on the back pockets im going for minimal design
i have two problems with pracitcally any jeans (or trousers in general) - rise too low and thighs to tight
What is the color called
I really wanted the 512s to be my go to jeans, but my calves are too big, so they end up fitting like skinny jeans. I ended up picking the 511s.
hi, what's the difference between levis 512 slim fit vs levis 512 tapered fit? which one is less skinny?
Great video! Thank you for addressing that we are all shaped differently! My personal preference is the 541 since I have more room in the seat and thighs ❤️
Thanks for a useful video. I have a hard time finding the cut and color I like in stock with Levi's so I often move on to something else. Is it time to bring back pegged jeans? I think you could pull it off.
The 512 looks good on you Broc
what t shirt do you like to wear? That white tee looks like a nice fit
The 512s are phenomenal and look great with chelsea boots
513s are just a little looser in the legs than the 511 which I also wear.
did you try the 531s yet?
@HannyDart No what are they? Athletic fit?
@@marcthibault8723 yep theres a 531 athletic fit version... not availably in europe tho..
ive been cycling a lot during the summer and now that i cant wear shorts anymore i found my pants to be way to tight arouht the tighs.
Apparently the atheltic fit option is only available in the states. real bummer. ive been searching around and found really good looking jeans/pants that have the right proportions but you just cant by them in europe. 🤡
511 have been my go to jeans for past 8 years or so.
Great video Brock. Perfect timing as I have been considering buying 511 or 512 jeans. Personally 512 is my preference. However, would you say both are timeless fits? :)
Yes, both are timeless! The 511 might be a bit more timeless since amount of taper is subject to trend.
I love the 510 the color doesn't fade, martial is a bit streachy and nice fit.
Moved away from Levis as I couldn’t find the fit I wanted. Lee ‘Luke’ jeans are perfect for me.
512 Slim Taper is everything
Thank you, your tips are helpful to me.
hey if i may ask, what is the width of the thigh area for the 541s and 505s? i'm someone around your height and i really dig the look of both of those jeans but i have pretty big thighs so i'm wondering if they would fit me or not. thanks
Please can you tell me the brand of your slip on shoes that you wear ?
"Bigger" guy here who found and loves the 541s thanks to this video. Thank you, Brock.
Very nice show. Please, what name of your slip on shoes that you wear in this video ? Thanks in advance
I like 511, 512, 541 and the 505 which is actually looks slimmer than the 501 when you hem it.
Good type of comparison ❤
I used to buy 514 but they dont really sell them anymore they told me 511 were the only similar but they fit me to skinny only 2 colors fits me perfect not to loose and to tight do you recommend me 512 ?
I have a 512 and just got a 511 they are the best I think for my body type I am 5'11 on a little wide
Awesome comparison vid 👏👏👏
Great video, very helpful thank you
very good comparison of levis jeans
Did you miss the 65504 ? They are skinny but fits like other brands slim fit.
Silly question, but Can you wear cowboy boots with 512 slim tapered?
I think the leg opening would be too narrow for that kind of boot.
I am 5 7
And my thai is little big which jeans i should go for ?
Thanks for this vid. Always wondered what all the # variations would look like side by side. 👖
Really a great video, very helpful!
Are loose, fitting, jeans, considered baggy?
