I'm sure these aren't as great numbers wise compared to your short form stuff but I really love the laidback, conversational nature of these videos! Can't wait to see what you yap about next :)
I forgot which brand used to say it on a tag in their jeans - maybe Wrangler - but it said "please wash three times before wearing" and I'd say that's spot on for unsanforized jeans. Maybe stop after the first or second time if they fit well.
started wearing Levi's in the '70s, County Seat is where the cool kids shopped for them, and they were still selling orange tag hippie bell bottoms, that were passé with my generation, red tag Levi's were the cool ones, and prewash was still a couple of years away, some kids wore the straight leg red tags, but I liked the boot cut version, always bought 1 inch larger in the waist, and 2 inches longer in length, had to wash and dry a new pair a least twice, but they were still stiff and physically hurt to wear, washed them 2x again after a week of wearing, then I'd wear them for a month straight before washing again, and they'd be comfortable after 3-4 months of doing that, and just when they were soft and had the perfect faded color, they'd tear at the knee, followed by a tear on the rear end within a couple of months, patches worked for a while, but that was about it for the life of that pair, Levi's departed from what they did best in the '80s, when they tried to compete with designer jeans, and never really came back their core jeans that were so popular when I was growing up
so im a 32 waist 32 inseam and live in the uk, only place i have ever found shrink to fit levis was in costco for 50 pounds. and was 32/34 i bought them and finally know what to do so that they fit perfect. so thank you for your wisdom
I have exact situation, but smaller. I’m 29/30 and found a unique (1984 VLC) pair of 29/32 shrink to fit 501. I’m afraid of soaking or washing them in case the waist became too small. Didnt you get shrinkage in the waist? Cheers!
Yeah, i sat in them in the tub when i was young. It would take me years to get the fade. Then after working a lot, the holes started from HARD work, not pre made holes. Proud I got frays and holes that I patched.
Great info as I think you really cover the impotent aspects. Regarding sizing Levi’s 501s have become bigger in the last 10 or 20 years. So a 32 from 20 plus years ago were smaller.
9:03 Nahhhh i feel the exact same way. More power to them, but I hate when they act like not wanting to dress like a character from the shittiest anime you've ever seen is "boring"
not necessaily levi's but my first step on raw denim was unsanforized 21oz I bought 2 size down, because I was afraid it will expand overtime and look sloppy. while that 2 size down was fine raw when being tried on, however after first insoak, it was stretch to fit rather than shrink to fit, however 6 years later I still have the jeans and despite the difficult beginning, it is indeed keeping its slim cut on the top block and upper thigh even after multiple washes. so I believe stretch to fit more than shrink to fit for slim top block over the years, maybe not 2 sizes down, but 1 size down, and wearing leather or canvas belt all the time to not stretch out the waistband during long sitting hours
501 stf is all I buy. I'm a carpenter by trade and I'm rough on my cloths. I've had the 501 pre shrunk and stf at the same time and the stf last way longer.
I tried normal 501s in store and they fit me perfectly. I then bought a pair in the exact same size online (as a STF) but even after 2 washes in very hot water I couldn't get them small enough to fit me? I feel kinda cheated tbh.
Ummm they did make definitive changes during the war and all manufacturers first filling military orders before any use in civilian fashion. The placement of rivets is one easy way to tell if they were pre or post war.
When I got my 505’s, i just asked my grandma to adjust it for me on the bottoms to match my height, and then it ended up shrinking perfectly with a few washes.
So I wear a 35 waist, I know Levi’s doesn’t make a 37 waist so if I want them fitted good with my thicker thighs, should I get a 38 and hope it shrinks down to a 35
@edgyalbert i just bought a pair of STF in my normal waist but a size up in the length. normally I'm a 36x30 in the 510. I know these have no stretch since they are 100% cotton but the waist is tighter than usual and I'm nervous to shrink to fit them and then the waist is smaller and too tight. do you recommend i exchange for a 38 instead? i would say the waist is close to perfect the legs are very baggy and wide since i have skinny legs.
You must take one (two) more size in the waist and two/three in the length. Take the "38", because it's a horror when a trouser ist too small in the waist.
Do they shrink more if you throw them into the wash after a few wears? I mean, what's the best way to wash them after the initial shrink? if that makes any sense
I washed them in cold water and air dried. They shrink more, but not horribly (they might be a little tight but stretch where they need to and look perfect).
I would wash the jeans at least twice before wearing them. Afterward, wash them in cold water and air dry them. You'll be fine. Most of the shrinking happens after about 3 washes as long as you wash them in hot water and high heat in the dryer. The jeans stretch out over the day as you wear them, too. However, if a little too tight, do a squat and stick out your butt and hold that position for around 30 seconds or so. You'll put stress on the fabric and seams to stretch them out just enough.
hey albert, great video! im just getting into the whole denim fashion thing and i was wondering, if you could share your hight with us, so i can visualise your fits a bit better. thank you!
Im thinking of buying a pair of vintage worn stf levis online, i wear a w32 on normal pants, and i tried vintage levis at 32 and 33, couldnt get them on. If i get a shrink to fit worn pairn would w35 also be tight?( i want it a bit relaxed and not tight)
That's tough to guess if you can't actually try on the jeans. Not all 501s shrink in the same way or amount. I had various waist sizes from 31" to 34" depending on how fitted I wanted my jeans to fit.
Machine wash them with lower temperature water, max 30°C and don't use the machine dryer, just line dry them. You can also stretch the length of the legs when they are still wet after a wash by pulling them. For the waist you just wear them, they'll always shrink a bit in the waist when washed and stretch out an inch or so with wear.
Fantastic video!!! :D Quick question though what's the denim button up shirt that u are wearing at the beginning of the vid ? it looks really nice. Keep up the great work I hope you make more RUclips vids 👍
I used to buy rigid orange tab 505s when I was in high school, and that was NOT a cool look at the time in the '90s. Everybody wanted these god awful baggy silver tabs. But I wish I had those 505s now!
I know shrink to fits got it in the name specifically but would this effectively work or any other pair of Levi’s as well? I’ve been eyeing this pair of vintage deadstock orange tabs but they’re just a tad bit big on the waist and long in the legs pls educate me further albert
501s are shrink to fit and will shrink 8-10%, most other vintage Levi's were sanforized however will shrink around 5% (probably says so on your tag). So yeah, they will probably shrink a little bit but not much.
I’m not sure of why this has shown up in my recommendation, but hey I decided to watch this because with his full mustache and hairy shoulders/bicep area he’s giving 70’s porn star realness..so I watched the video and learned some cool things (not about him), but about Levi’s. Good video if you have the time and patience for this kind of stuff or just purchase it already done for you.
"because with his full mustache and hairy shoulders/bicep area he’s giving 70’s porn star realness.." Yes! ;-))))) A seventies gay porn star. Sorry, but it was even my opinion. ;-))))))
Really like what you were saying about fashion these days. People talking about fashion seem so out of touch with what fashionable people are actually wearing out in the world.
I even never saw somebody driving his car only to buy a sixpack an then drinking while driving. Not even in Germany you will picked up by the police at once and lost your driving licence too.
weird question but im a hairy mf too and I was wondering at what age did your shoulders get that hairy because im 25 and I can see lycanthropy getting more powerful
Interesting vid, great content, well edited ... but I can't get past the typical LA/SoCal driving to the store to buy just one thing. 🤦🏻♂️ (Let's hope his camera guy is recording ... and holding the rest of the shopping.) 🤷🏻♂️ Luv U, man.😘

The levis bare butt framed photo really ties the room together albert
Felt sus when I noticed
😂😂😂😂
Loving these longer format videos! Could you maybe do a video on Wrangler Cowboy Cut jeans?
Please make more long form videos. Great production and editing.
Thanks for this. Of all the videos on STF jeans I have watched this is the first that actually told me what size to start with.
I forgot which brand used to say it on a tag in their jeans - maybe Wrangler - but it said "please wash three times before wearing" and I'd say that's spot on for unsanforized jeans. Maybe stop after the first or second time if they fit well.
I think the modern day style journey, more so than ever, encapsulates the sentiment that we are what we grow beyond
started wearing Levi's in the '70s, County Seat is where the cool kids shopped for them, and they were still selling orange tag hippie bell bottoms, that were passé with my generation, red tag Levi's were the cool ones, and prewash was still a couple of years away, some kids wore the straight leg red tags, but I liked the boot cut version, always bought 1 inch larger in the waist, and 2 inches longer in length, had to wash and dry a new pair a least twice, but they were still stiff and physically hurt to wear, washed them 2x again after a week of wearing, then I'd wear them for a month straight before washing again, and they'd be comfortable after 3-4 months of doing that, and just when they were soft and had the perfect faded color, they'd tear at the knee, followed by a tear on the rear end within a couple of months, patches worked for a while, but that was about it for the life of that pair, Levi's departed from what they did best in the '80s, when they tried to compete with designer jeans, and never really came back their core jeans that were so popular when I was growing up

Are these different to the made in china STF they sell on the Levi’s UK website?

Thanks for the video Albert! Now I have to scour eBay or something because Levi’s in Australia simply don’t sell these
My sugarcane 1947’s also shrank quite a bit, even though they were already washed once. They fit perfectly now
what is the levis shirt you're wearing?
Great info as I think you really cover the impotent aspects. Regarding sizing Levi’s 501s have become bigger in the last 10 or 20 years. So a 32 from 20 plus years ago were smaller.

Wonder How They came up with The .." Shrink to Fit" process.....😊.. just my opinion
@edgyalbert what’s the denim shirt you’re rockin?
@edgyalbert but can any 501 be STF, or specific ones only?
not necessaily levi's but my first step on raw denim was unsanforized 21oz I bought 2 size down, because I was afraid it will expand overtime and look sloppy. while that 2 size down was fine raw when being tried on, however after first insoak, it was stretch to fit rather than shrink to fit, however 6 years later I still have the jeans and despite the difficult beginning, it is indeed keeping its slim cut on the top block and upper thigh even after multiple washes. so I believe stretch to fit more than shrink to fit for slim top block over the years, maybe not 2 sizes down, but 1 size down, and wearing leather or canvas belt all the time to not stretch out the waistband during long sitting hours

What do you do once you've shrunk them to the right amount and you don't want them to shrink anymore when you wash them? Do you just not wash them?

Wash in cold water and air dry.

All denim will shrink, but not necessarily this much or this fast. Hot wash and dry will prob make em smaller
