In this video I go through 40 years of Spider-Man games to see just how much Spider-Man has changed. Starting in 1982 with Spider-Man on the Atari 2600 all the way to the newly released Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PlayStation 5. I played through every single of one of them including one game that completely changed my life forever.

Hey, I just would like to say- uhm, I liked your take on all the games, but I have to say- Spider-Man edge of time’s gameplay was quite bad. But , the story definitely made up for it, I’d say
Pro-tip: amazing spider-man 3ds is the best version of any amazing spiderman game. It's not completely awful that you missed it, but it'd be good to add if you ever do smth like this again.

I'm positive you mean Spider-man was a stepping stone for the Arkham games. I hate to break it to people who keep saying Arkham "influenced" Spider-man but its literally, factually the other way around.
Arkham Asylum came out in 2009, Spider-Man had already been using that combat since 2004. Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man the movie the game, Spider-Man 2, 3, Web of Shadows all came out before Arkham Asylum(2009) and had been developing and tweaking the combat to what Arkham borrowed not the opposite.
In fact its obvious that Spider-Man had been working on that combat style because it literally makes more sense for Spider-Man to be moving around like that and NOT a normal human wearing tank armor, flying around the screen even though it probably weighs 300 pounds will him and all his gear.

Separation Anxiety is named after the comic arc. Venom got separated from Eddie because he didn't like being Venom and the Life Foundation was wreaking havoc. Both Venom movies covered the story kind of.

That story about your dog made me tear up. Had a similar experience with my dog but it was with my 4th play through of Skyrim (of all the games lol) after not touching it for years. She didn't make it, and when I tried picking it up a few weeks after she passed it all just felt wrong. Never touched that game again even though I still got the save somewhere.

What a journey... Thank you so much Insomniac for bringing the fantasy and excitement of being Spider-Man to reality. You guys are next level, and I hope that you continue to work on every superhero game ever. Thank you to all the predecessors as well, because without you guys, there would never have been an Insomniac to step up the plate and be what it is today. And uh... shout out to the Batman game for leveling up the playing field... Truly amazing how the butterfly effect is a true thing, and that what we have today would not be there if it were not for all the predecessors considered.
Insomniac has the most repetitive combat system in Spider-Man ps4. It was soooo boring to play. Haven’t played Spider-Man ps5 but I will say it’s looks way better than Spider-Man ps4.
@israelhernandez5431 I too found the repetition excruciating like miles was a pain to finish because of how similar they were. 😬
Atleast Spiderman two looks better when it comes to web swinging still haven't bought it because of my concerns but I might still as now he swings faster that yoyo swinging was terrible with or without the tricks that miles had looked better but still felt lacking.
I hope they keep improving it and I'm happy nothing better then the feeling of swinging around town especially when there's skill systems involved like the older titles.
Figure I'll miss out on a sequel or 2 until they can get that feeling on par.

I never tried to reach out to Spider-man game people but ive reached out to the directors of the X-men legends games, activision too but im not aware of them working on Spidey. I loved the legends games. I sent them videos of my neice and nephew enjoying the games and pics of a merch hoody for the first game i found in a vintage store in NY. They were very happy with the shout outs. Sonething we forget we can do. Feels great to reach back to your childhood and say thanks
Treyarch's Spider-Man 2 blew my 13 year old mind. I hadn't played any other open world games at that point. The crazy thing is Insomniac's first Spider-Man game blew my mind just as much, even though I was a jaded 27 year old.

As someone who's dealing with life's bs atm and recently played Marvel's Spider-Man 2018 and LOVED it, this video made me tear up

Spierman 2 on gamecube: Bruce Campbell voiced all the little collectable hints. One of them said - if you collect these all, they will all say something different. I thought, wow. so cool. So set out collecting all 100 or 150 of them. When I collected the last one. I headed to the next nearest one to collect and hear something different...
I heard Bruce Campbell say "Something Different". Kudos Bruce, well played. Totally worth it though.

The Raimi Spiderman 2 game was actually AMAZING in that the web swinging was WAY improved over previous games and, in fact that code has been the basis for every (good) Spiderman game made subsequently.
Also they used a scale (and slightly altered) map of manhatten.
Spiderman Shattered Dimensions came out REALLY, REALLY close to Arkham Asylum so they couldn't have directly copied them. But I think its pretty apparent they heard things about AA and copied that idea. They programmers said they didn't mean for it to be SO similar. But the entire game was not a response to Arkham Asylum.
If only it was the same for the pc version
