Something I loved about this series is how it's the only one I can remember where Spidey consciously changes his voice in costume when around his loved ones. A small, but pivotal detail in my enjoyment of the series.
Speaking about the voices, for the Latin American Spanish dub the dub actors for Peter, MJ and Harry were the sames ones who dubbed them in the Raimi films. Actually, Tobey's dub actor also voiced Peter in Spectacular, though he didn't reprise his role as Tobey in No Way Home because, well, a lot of things happened
It was really nice to hear such a positive take on the show. I've always felt it had a lot of great ideas, and Neil Patrick Harris' portrayal of Peter/Spidey was up there with some of the best imo.
I like the electro from this show, he was eerie, actually felt like a threat, I wish more villains had that feel, Spider-Man villains are always solid imo
And let's not forget the Stan Lee cameo in the final two episodes, where Stan Lee plays not some goofy version of himself, but as a grim old stranger who PUSHES Peter Parker towards vengeance with serious conviction. What also makes this cameo unique is that the Old Man is a lackey or some poor schmuck the Gaines Twins roped into their vengeful scheme of having Spider-Man murder Kraven.
I always wondered if that old man was supposed to be their version of Ezekiel? It's such a bizarre role for Lee and it so weird that a character voiced by him looks nothing like him!
For being 20 years old this show has aged like fine wine in my opinion I remember watching it as a kid not understanding how violent it truly was it’s honestly such a shame there was only one season and for anyone with Disney plus definitely watch it it’s sold
I watched this show when i was like 4-5 years old. It was long after the show was canceled and i’m pretty sure i had a DVD of the whole show. I was to young to comprehend the nuances, but i absolutely ADORED the art style and aesthetic.
My dad bought it for me at a movie gallery when I was like 6 I remember watching the first episode which was the electro episode and Lowkey that shit was 2 intense for my 6 year old self lol
Loved this as a kid especially the dark tones that establishes being spiderman isn’t all funs and games especially during his collage years dealing with his studies and fighting crime
I gotta say, I always loved the colors and feel of this show. It was darker and had so much character. The show itself gives me a sort of melancholy feeling, especially knowing how it ended on a cliffhanger with Peter quitting being Spider-Man. Since there wasn’t anymore seasons that is the ending as of right now, Peter just giving up and living a normal life, which no one could blame him for with how the city hated him. Such a unique Spidey show, a huge shame that so many incredible Spider-Man shows never got finished.
I feel the exact same way but to be honest these are the only 3 Spiderman shows I actually care enough to remember. I mean I remember Ultimate but it's not a close 4th by any stretch, it's TAS, NTAS and Spectacular in that top 3 and daylight between them and any others. Out of respect for them all, I won't even rank them because they're all damn good Spiderman shows in their own right.
For years I lived without hope of this ever getting revived, but life as of late has proved that such a thing would be possible. Seeing as minds were blown with revivals of older shows as well as friggin' Tobey in a new Spider-Man Film. Guys, maybe if we keep asking we can get this gem back.
The problem I see is that Spectacular also ended on a cliffhanger and there's probably a lot more fan momentum to see a 3rd season of that, before a 2nd season of this. Also some still consider Spiderman TAS's ending to be somewhat of a cliffhanger and with X-Men TAS being revived, I'd wager there's also more momentum and overall chance for that being given some form of revival than this as well. Overall I think that not enough people that know about this show in comparison to TAS, Spectacular and even Ultimate, I think it's why videos like this are important to at the very least make people remember this existed but hopefully also get new people to check it out so they can see how cool it was and we'll see if that hopefully gets this series a higher profile.
Loved Mary Jane's design in this series. It definitely feels like it's one made in the early 2000s with details like the Choker, the full bare midriff via Crop Tops and low rise pants, as well as some mild eyeliner; though without feeling dated at all and she looks really great all around. A shorter hairstyle also makes her stand out quite a bit compared to her other well known designs. And oftentimes, I've noticed how the rendering / cel shaded style of the show would make her bellybutton disappear and then reappear in a few shots depending on the camera angle and lightning. Mild animation goof right there.
@@robertrowley4929 If theres an appearance of any magnitude in the next spiderverse im sure itll get some kind of respect afterwards kinda like andrew spidey after NWH. This iteration of Spiderman voiced by NPH is really likable

Correction on the first episode: Turbo Jet was actually based off a VERY VERY VERY obscure spiderman villain, Slyde. He only appeared in one comic during Romita's era. He was a scorned inventor who invented a non-stick frying pan spray that worked 100% effectively. His invention was passed off as dumb by the company he worked for so he became a supervillain instead as revenge. He actually has a REALLY unique power. He coated his suit in his non-stick spray, and absolutely nothing could stick to him or grab him, including Spidermans webs. He was also so slippery that he was able to "slide" on the ground at super speeds, faster than spiderman even. Funny enough, Spider-Man was unable to defeat him and he ended up escaping after ruining his former company's reputation. He was never seen or mentioned again. Turbo Jett and him share very similar qualities. Both African American, both wear a white costume, both travel at huge speeds, both can't be webbed up (jets vibrations melt the webs, slyde's suit can't adhere to anything).

I wouldn't mind if they revived the show and act like it's own series than being part of Raimi version. Seriously this version have best character and villain (not best as Spectacular, but in it's own way) and the color of the character, world, and especially Spidey costume are top notch.
I lowkey love this franchise entry for the same reasons you go over early on (The focus on the main trio as young adults, the gorgeous lighting, the cel-shading that makes it look like Killer 7 or something from the PS2 lol). I don't want my Spiderman stories to be grimdark or edgy, but I wouldn't mind if another entry took a stab at this 2000s alt-rock energy TNAS has going on. It's really charming in its own right.
There's nothing wrong with dark and edgy stories and Spider-Man has plenty of them. Also how could you be a fan of 2000s alt-rock and complain about edgy?
I love the idea that the twins were so unique & dangerous that they HAD to be killed off. One of the few times SM was completely out of his league & things got brutal.
I watched this series as a kid on Netflix back in like 2016. Seeing Tom Holland as the new Spidey at the time inspired me to catch up on EVERYTHING I could, and this show in particular always caught my eye. Always wondered what would’ve happened if it got to continue, same w Spectacular
I'm not nearly as into ultimate Spiderman as you but I still loved the show regardless. I think it ultimately ended up somewhere between classic and ultimate and it was the better for it. It was neither but it was both and it was its own thing all at once.
I’m thoroughly stunned at how good this show sounds that I want to give it a proper watch now. I’m really impressed at how high quality it sounds and it’s a shame that it never got more of it to come to fruition.
This is the first spider-man show I ever watched. Because we got it on DVD I would watch this on repeat, over and over again. Enough times that I am convinced I have seen episode 1 of season 2. No matter what anyone ever says about it, this is Spider-man for me and it will never be ruined.
This is the best Spider-Man animated series that had a dark generational, gap because the story telling and voice acting along with peer support I really wanted this show to be a cult classic despite everyone no giving it a chance. I love watching this series because a spider-man animated series like this could not be made today. I really also wanted a follow up, on the ending series finale and just a return to this universe?
Been saying all this for awhile. Not sure if some plot lines would have worked if used in other shows or comics but the storytelling is so strong that nearly everything works.
Man looking back at this show, i really feel besides the dark and mature things this show exclusively has that tied me to it as a kid (which fits the whole College Life Vibe) but i think its the characters that really make it shine. I could be wrong but this show may very well be the BEST shown friendship between the Trio and has the best Harry I ever seen
I think I still own this series on DVD. I always enjoyed the small details, like how Spidey is casually swinging upside down while holding a conversation with Talon. Or how they showcased his speed when he’s being shot at and is out crawling the gun fire along the sides of buildings!
"Yet another Spider-Man series that ends without a real resolution." No, you're wrong. THIS is a real resolution in and of itself! The series ends with this Peter giving up being Spider-Man forever. I can't think of a darker way to end a Spider-Man series! It's beautiful in it's own tragic way.
I remember first coming actoss this in my late teens/early adulthood. The fact that Peter was also atthis pount in his life really resonated with me. I loced the darker and sexier themes. Imo SpiderMAN does best when he's allowed to grow and mature with his audience.
This show is super fantastic! They really did a great job on Electro for sure and Kingpin was really good in it too. All the villains really rock here! Indy was amazing too. Seriously too bad this show ended when it did!
This has always been one of my favorite spiderman serieses, I could never really explain why but it just felt like a huge draw to me. The ending was heart shattering and honestly I wish we could've gotten a different resolution. Head Over Heels, The Electro Storyline, and the Gaines Twins have been rent free in my mind for literal years and I will never not wish we got more of those vibes elsewhere. I've just never really seen anything that's scratched the same itch in a satisfying enough way.
This and Unlimited wouldn’t be made in the modern day, but man it did a good job. Patrick Harris is actually a great Spider-Man VA, glad they brought him again in Shattered Dimensions.
I remember my mother bought this for me near a decade ago and I loved it. I hope they make a season 2 because I swear, this was one of the few series' that I actually enjoyed.
I am SO GLAD you decided to do a retrospective on this fever dream of a spiderman show! I remember the sweet intro and saw it on Disney+ last month just to rewatch it all! Makes me miss the fact that spider man shows used to have more freedom to explore new stories mature themes compared to today’s spider man shows which practically HAVE to be kid friendly and related to the MCU somehow
Man I loved this show growing up. I had the DVDs and used to watch it on MTV lol. Criminally slept on. It was much more mature than anything I’d seen at that point
What a nostalgia trip, I watched this when I was about 8 or 9 and completely forgot it existed, seeing the CG character models brought back a wave of memories, I remember nothing but a couple action scenes and Fisk drinking a coffee but what a banger of a TV show
I remember watching this on Netflix when I was like 12 and being so confused by the episode order. I actually went through with a notepad to try and piece every episode together in order.
This was a damn crime that this was cancelled. It was mature and dark for the time and it is sad to see that we haven't gotten anywhere close to the story telling in recent games or shows.
This series seems really cool, as someone who’s been a fan of Spider Man since I was a little toddler and grew up in the Raimi films it’s been awesome to watch these retrospectives and learn the animated history of Spidey
It was my fav spiderman show. As a kid I got really invested when electro got his powers. I had no clue it was supposed to be a continuation since the people are so different
Best Spider-Man show (to me). This show had THEE most potential out of any Spider-Man show and way more mature than Spectacular which is refreshing. I'm tired of Highschool era Peter, we need more college and post college peter in Media today.
I completely agree with you my friend and you’re right we really do need a more mature and wise Peter Parker that’s a leader to a team and a father to a family but modern Marvel/MCU will never do that unless it’s extremely profitable and it’s runs in their favor money-wise😢 Have a good day my friend 👍🏻
I guess bendis ended up getting what he wanted because bendis is actually credited as a producer and consultant on ultimate Spider-Man as well as it’s spin off shows with Paul dini as one of the producers/creators of that universe
I expect that the Ultimate Spider-Man series isn’t quite what Bendis had in mind, but since he created those comics it makes sense that he was a consultant

Spectacular entertains me so its good. But two things that really brings it down for me is the stup!d nickelodeon animation and the 🫏hole Peter Parker that made me want to see the villains whoop him and I absolutely shouldnt feel like that.

I remember watching this as a kid and absolutely loving it, glad to see someone else liking it even if it is 20years later
Oh man you just awakened a bunch memories, I had totally forgot about this show.
I love the idea that the twins were so unique & dangerous that they HAD to be killed off. One of the few times SM was completely out of his league & things got brutal.
Did you read the comics featuring Morlun? That was a story where SM had no choice but to kill the villain.
I watched this series as a kid on Netflix back in like 2016. Seeing Tom Holland as the new Spidey at the time inspired me to catch up on EVERYTHING I could, and this show in particular always caught my eye. Always wondered what would’ve happened if it got to continue, same w Spectacular
Dude your not the only one wishs that this show, the 1994 series and Spectacular had a continuation
@@The_Blue_Otaku I never said I was? I was just talking about my own experience

@@The_Blue_Otaku yeah, oh🙄💀
This series, while short lived, was super cool. Definitely one of the most interesting Spider-Man animated shows out there.
I loved this show as a kid because I love ultimate Spider-Man and the style/ the body of Peter makes it look like the ultimate version.
The show was originally going to be an Ultimate Spider-Man show, but due to the success of the Movie, they made it a loose Movie tie-in show.
@@Wol1427 wow you just gave information already in the video 😱
I'm not nearly as into ultimate Spiderman as you but I still loved the show regardless.
I think it ultimately ended up somewhere between classic and ultimate and it was the better for it. It was neither but it was both and it was its own thing all at once.
Peter's neck looks too long and his head looks too big/round when he's in the costume. It makes a lot of the epic scenes look goofy imo.
I still sent a lot of things from the original, I thought the idea of it being something based on the film was pretty stupid
My favorite Spider-Man show, still to this day.
This is the Spider-Man I've been feeling like they could use for a short and extremely satisfying cameo in one of the multiversal storylines.
I think this show really shined in its lighting. It disguised some of the iffy CG and brought so much personality to the show
I loved this growing up the vibe was unmatched and the animation style was cool, I was sos sad when they removed it from Netflix
I feel like this show gave a perfect balance to Peter’s personality. Show definitely has stuck with me.
Yes! Spider-man is one of my all time favorite super-heroes! Thanks for this man!
Bittamin gang 🎉
Man looking back at this show, i really feel besides the dark and mature things this show exclusively has that tied me to it as a kid (which fits the whole College Life Vibe) but i think its the characters that really make it shine.
I could be wrong but this show may very well be the BEST shown friendship between the Trio and has the best Harry I ever seen
I think I still own this series on DVD. I always enjoyed the small details, like how Spidey is casually swinging upside down while holding a conversation with Talon. Or how they showcased his speed when he’s being shot at and is out crawling the gun fire along the sides of buildings!
I remember watching this at my grandma's house with dad and surprisingly he still let me watch it
watched the whole show out of order on youtube as a kid, it's really stuck with me as one of my favorite spidey stories! so unique!
I loved this show.. MTV UK showed this at late night viewing.. 6mths pregnant at 2am.. the 21year old such a spidey nerd.
This and Unlimited wouldn’t be made in the modern day, but man it did a good job. Patrick Harris is actually a great Spider-Man VA, glad they brought him again in Shattered Dimensions.
Just another reason why I don't like the modern day
@@mbii7667modern day full of snowflake fr
I remember my mother bought this for me near a decade ago and I loved it. I hope they make a season 2 because I swear, this was one of the few series' that I actually enjoyed.
I am SO GLAD you decided to do a retrospective on this fever dream of a spiderman show! I remember the sweet intro and saw it on Disney+ last month just to rewatch it all! Makes me miss the fact that spider man shows used to have more freedom to explore new stories mature themes compared to today’s spider man shows which practically HAVE to be kid friendly and related to the MCU somehow
Imagine a remake of this in 2025 with moder cgi but still having the original style AND THE BANGER THEME SONG!
Still wish more modern comic shows were confident enough to adapt characters from comics and movies as well as make their own
Better to stick to the source material
Man I loved this show growing up. I had the DVDs and used to watch it on MTV lol. Criminally slept on. It was much more mature than anything I’d seen at that point
I watched this as a young teen and then rewatched as an adult I appreciate this series now it wasn’t bad at all
What a nostalgia trip, I watched this when I was about 8 or 9 and completely forgot it existed, seeing the CG character models brought back a wave of memories, I remember nothing but a couple action scenes and Fisk drinking a coffee but what a banger of a TV show
The soundtrack for the show was fire. And i loved NPH as Peter. They should give him another Spiderman role.
Early 00s alternative music is my jam
I wish we got more seasons for this show. I loved it and it had the coolest MJ design ever. Plus Neil Patrick Harris nailed his performance.
She was hot
Spooderman the series
I'm not the hero the world wants
But I am the hero the world gets

Fuck yeah, man
My older brother is dying for that series😂
The series ate my family with a knife
@@Elmo.the-killer1 you too?
Edit: That exact same thing happened to my buddy Eric, just wanted to clarify
One of the best Spidey shows ever I put my lil brother on years ago now we watch it religiously together
I remember watching this on a vhs tape back when I was a kid
They will never make a Spider-Man show like this one and Unlimited. They're like a time capsule of the early 2000s.
I really miss that era.
watched this show when i was hella young and always thought it was unusual but deep
This one has hands dowm my favorite MJ design, a shame it didnt continue.
I completely agree with you my friend and you’re right we really do need a more mature and wise Peter Parker that’s a leader to a team and a father to a family but modern Marvel/MCU will never do that unless it’s extremely profitable and it’s runs in their favor money-wise😢
Have a good day my friend 👍🏻
Real
This brought back memories, also this had peak Marry Jane! her character design, her personality, this is how she always should look.
@@Johnny2Cellos I think he’s credited as a producer as well I’d have to check
@@Johnny2Cellos even tho it’s different or had the guts to be unique and one of a kind from any other Spider-Man adaptation and break the traditional and they have my respect for that
@@Johnny2Cellos he was still involved in its creation somewhat being a producer and a consultant
They had to adapt it for a family friendly audience and I like how it was handled
@@Johnny2Cellos true
Petition to bring this show back. This show was a banger
Still can’t believe Neil Patrick Harris did the voice acting for Spider-Man
he also voiced him in spider-man shattered dimensions.
The lizard scared the shit out of me as a kid , it scared me for years
This is a great and underrated spidey show , it had a great version of Mary Jane .
Unlike the new movies
Tbh this is the best version of MJ
@@lifeisberserk9566honestly that is very true like in the Raimi trilogy they kept making MJ do something horrible to Peter, I can’t remember if any of the older animated shows (except ‘94 Animated Series) had an MJ and the ‘94 series was okay, MJ in the MCU was really boring (no offense to Zendaya) so yeah MJ in SNAM is awesome
8:37 that spin has me in tears😂😂
This is probably the one Spider-Man show were Carnage could actually have killed people if he were in it.
The symbiotes would look so fucking good with cell shading
I find it funny that Spider-Man in TNAS is supposed to be McGuire but he looks more like he’s modeled after Garfield
This and TAS were peak like holy shit, kids bring up spectacular among the best but it doesn't even come close to these two
yeah
I've seen all of them, and I still think Spectacular is overall the best.
Spectacular entertains me so its good. But two things that really brings it down for me is the stup!d nickelodeon animation and the 🫏hole Peter Parker that made me want to see the villains whoop him and I absolutely shouldnt feel like that.
Still remains my favorite Spidey show. Just love the computer animated graphics with its slightly mature themes. Wish there would be a new computer animated Spiderman series like this.
this show is by far the most underrated spidey show and ive seen in so many times now and it still as good as i remember it to be
Neil Patrick Harris might be my favorite Spider-Man now, he did an amazing job!!
And speaking of the voice cast, it was loaded with names I recognized! Neil Patrick Harris, Rino Romano, Kevin Michael Richardson, Clancy Brown, Keith David, Jeffrey Combs, and Ed Asner just to name a few!
I wish this show continued on, I throughly enjoyed watching it and think it had a lot of good ideas!
I was way too young for this show when it came out but I got the entire thing on DVD and watched the hell out of it. Sam Raimi's Spiderman and this MTV iteration of Spiderman were my main introduction to the character on-screen and I still hold them to a high standard (even though the CGI animation of the show is a little clunky).
Wait a min, I have seen this show before, but like 4 min in my life. I instantly recognized the art style. Thanks for making me remembering it!
