I had the DVD set for TNAS as a kid and lost track of how many times I watched it. I've never really understood why network executives would just can shows that do fairly well to focus on other demographics. I get wanting to broadly shift towards other demographics, but if you have a successful show, why not just let it keep going until it falls off in ratings or the show runners are done with it? It's not like the rise of one trend inherently kills another one, especially if they're in as different of markets as "superhero cartoon aimed at older audience" and "reality show."
Think it's just a numbers game. Just cos a show does well doesn't mean they won't have other things in their pipeline they forecast to make more money. And if another network doesn't want to take it its gone.
Rino Romano would voice another underrated adaption of a well known character, The Batman ‘04 series. P.S. We can agree on one thing on Spider-Man Unlimited, it’s better than Avengers United They Stand.
The Batman wasn't that good either. The ONLY 2 Batman solo cartoons that got it right was 90's Animated Series and Batman Beyond. Justice League was also good The rest are shit Get some better standards already.
7:41 I mean to be fair, Counter-Earth and this concept has existed since the 70’s so it can’t be blamed on the show specifically. I mean in some iterations there aren’t any humans at all.
Another fun fact about Spidey's VA from Spider-Man Unlimited: he also voices Luis Sera from Resident Evil 4! You can definity tell with his counter Goblin voice
Whenever I think if Peter's brilliant cover-up when he leaves for Counter Earth I just picture EVERYONE immediately realizing he and Spidey are the same. I can just see MJ sitting at home, disappointed in her husband. Cuz now she has to deal with in oncoming paparazzi, and the series of phone calls from family members and friends
Finally someone talking about the CGI series! I do wish that series was more popular and got to live on much longer, it was one of the most unique Spider-Man franchises, and I loved it so much growing up especially. I also can't deny, the CGI Harry is my favorite version of the Osborne character too, I just badly wished it had the chance to continue for how good it did get I think.
TNAS is *my* Spidey show, I revisit it often and I just adore the movements of the character, the voice acting (NPH as Spidey is ma boy) and the maturity. It’s not perfect by any means, but I love it all the same
I was born 2006 but the 60's spiderman show was what I grew up with weirdly. I had every season on DVD and would constantly rewatch them. such a classic show
I actually liked Spider-Man The New Animated Series and I still have the DVD too. It’s probably the most faithful adaptation of Peter Parker we’ve ever seen despite some changes due to executive meddling by MTV. At least until Spectacular came out. Unlimited is a strange case but not unenjoyable. That’s all I can say about it.
Beast Wars is easily my all-time favorite Transformers anything. You're one of my favorite youtubers. Please, please make a Beast Wars video. Or two. Or seven.
1:18-1:34: THANK YOU!!! I hate it when people call Spider-Man Unlimited a sequel to Spider-Man: The Animated Series, there are so many obvious reason why it's not: The different artstlye, the characters having different voices, Venom Carnage and Mary Jane not being trapped in dimensional limbo, Venom and Carnage being friends rather than enemies, Venom and Carnage being able to shapeshift with their human hosts ect. Look it up on the Marvel Database and you'll see.
I remember watching unlimited anxiously waiting for Spidey to return to regular earth whenever this weird arc was finished, failing to recognize it was the premise
"Spider-Man: The New Animated Series" surprisingly has one of the best (IMHO) and most _haunted_ versions of Dr. Connors/The Lizard; the villain's design in the series is awesomely monstrous, and I feel Rob Zombie successfully manages to believably convey that Connors is a genuine scientist who was wronged through his vocal performance. And THAT'S how "Spider-Man: Unlimited" ends (I never saw the final episode)? Huh, it more or less predicted "Web of Shadows (among other things)."
I remember watching the MTV show when it came to UK Netflix, I wasn't tooo into it but it's probably one of my favourites nowadays. Like you said the maturity without overdoing it is super refreshing, and Neil Patrick Harris is pretty damn good
15:27, with how you infrequently reference the Sonic series, I'd like to see you talk about your opinions on the game. Also nice video, Spider-Man Unlimited's artstyle is the biggest saving grace.

why not the spider-man 2099 instead of Dan Gilvezan (he would voice Miguel O'hara as the origanl plan of spider-man unlimited too which makes it even cooler)
Honestly for what they had to work with, they made truly amazing shows. I really enjoyed both of these shows and the world they’re in. Unlimited is so different in a way that while not perfect really got my attention in a stand out idea. TNAS was more mature, super unique style and just had an atmosphere that felt right for the world it’s trying to create.
The problem with Peters plan that you brought up at 6:13, because Spideys suit can function when its off of Peter so all of them could have actually gotten off.
I honestly can't wait to hear what you talk about with the NEXT series. We've heard you talk about it before in some of your older videos and you even appeared on Browntable to talk about one subject on the matter. But having a full video talking about one of MY favorite Spidey cartoons out there will definitely be a treat when it comes out. Can't wait! 😁
I really loved both of these series, but especially TNAS. It was so cool and dark. Electro's death was a real high point. I watched through with my daughter and she was (being only young) was actually moved to tears. The story hit really well. I would have loved a continuation...
So, the MTV show was one of the first times I was ever exposed to the character and world of Spider-Man. It wasn’t my first exposure, that was either some DVD collections of the Fox Kids show or the first two Raimi movies (I can never remember which), but I think The New Animated Series stuck with me a little more because it was never praised to the same degree as the other two. This that little niche thing that I and maybe a handful of other people knew about because it was kinda bizarre in hindsight. I mean, a Spider-Man show with rather grim stories and themes? Who wants that when you’ve got him making jokes and fighting a sand guy in the movies? And don’t get me wrong, I love a cheerful Spider-Man as much as the next guy, the Raimi movies and other cartoons are praised for a reason, but… idk, it’s nice getting to look back on that OTHER weird show and acknowledging that yeah, that’ll never happen again. Anyway, all this to say, I think it’s really cool to see somebody else acknowledge this amazing little show that I still hold dear with the same passion he’d give to any other thing he’d review. Thanks Xavier.
I read through your comics and they're pretty great! Imitating the style of the cartoon show and trying to tie up loose ends, a shame the comic making process is so lengthy but that's just its nature, still, it's good stuff.
A subtle thing they did with Electro, if you notice when Spidey tackles him on the ground, Electro starts to looks more skeletal and weak. Since he is touching the ground, his electricity is being grounded so he is getting weaker.
Both show’s intros haven’t aged all that well but they’re both still pretty awesome. Especially unlimited. Edit: hey, hey I never said I didn’t like them. again the musics great.
@@Mr.PR2000 I ain’t saying they aren’t good just that blaring techno music wouldn’t really fly in todays cartoons. actually these intros are really good.
Spider-Man: TAS had to be left with the loose end of Mary Jane still being lost somewhere in a dimensional limbo, but also ended the series on a very high note with Peter literally saving all reality from being destroyed by an insane Carnage-possessed version of himself, while the final scene at least leaves viewers with the reassurance that Peter and MJ will be reunited again. And if that alone wasn't enough to end the series on, Spidey got to meet Stan Lee! Unlimited’s final episode ends the series with symbiotes raining down on Counter-Earth and left viewers with a much bigger crisis that they never got to see resolved, so if anything TAS was able to be given a much better and more satisfying end for a "cliffhanger". Kind of makes me glad in hindsight that I never really got to watch much of Unlimited as a kid if that was how the series ended.
I remember watching & enjoying CGI Spider-man as a kid when I got it on DVD. I still enjoy it as an adult, especially now that I have an understanding of specific parts of the show that I didn't have when I was younger. Between that one and what I've watched of the original 90s Spider-man cartoon(not Unlimited), the CGI show has definitely aged better for me.
Wait wait wait. At 22:23 it says Geldhoff, as in Geldhoff from the ultimate comics? Maybe that piece of concept art was for the scrapped ultimate spider-man show you mentioned
I love TNAS and how unique it is. I'm super excited that it's finally going on Disney+ so I hope it gets more exposure and fans Also, TNAS is the reason why I hear Neil Pat as the voice of Spider-Man when I read comics
Nice video, I have always loved the Unlimited suit and would love to see it in the future again. I watched both of these series and really liked both and wished they were fully finished and didn't end on cliffhangers. Love all the videos you create and can't wait to see what's next.
I would like another adult animated Spider-Man series specifically based off Jms and Paul Jenkins runs. Also animated adaptations of other stories from the comics.

2003 isn’t the best show but it was my first Spider-Man show, I still enjoy it to this day and wish it could’ve continued. I saw it after 2003, Spectacular, and the Animated series show but I couldn’t really get into it even when I wanted to. I hope that suit shows up in Spider-Man 2 and gets more exposure like we want. Perhaps we’ll see it return someday big time, but I’m not holding my breath

i like to think that the Ultimate Spider-Man universe is a constant. Like for every version of Spider-Man that exists there will always be a version of them that somehow ends up in FurryLand
TNAS has my favorite version of Connors, in that unlike other incarnations he seems more intense, holding a grudge over what Oscorp's weapons did to his arm. He has some standards, but Curt seems more accepting of the Lizard as an outlet for his vendettas, giving him more agency and ambiguity that I actually think is more interesting than his usual depictions.
living in Tbilisi, i grew up with these two and our G'Old TAS on the same DVD, pretty much everything out of order and i really love that they aren't forgotten!
It's a treat seeing you talk about these shows, as I hold MEGA nostalgia for both. I watched spiderman unlimited at a very young age and the new animated series (even though its years and years old) a bit later in life. It's strange cuz I have a vivid memory of it being night and I went to my parents bedroom where there was two tvs on the wall (for some reason) and like a screensaver or menu for the unlimited show was on both. I think it was the menu for the dvd back when dvds were still the next thing to vhs. also, say what you want about these shows, but you cant deny they both had kickass theme songs.
I absolutely loved unlimited as a child, and it marked me to this day as a child that loved drawing in the way they made those shadows and the use of black in the characters. I love the stile they used to this day!
To be fair, "Unlimited" did kinda justify why Venom and Carnage looked and acted differently with the whole Synoptic plot point, implying that at some point this Synoptic had gone dormant due to human and Bestial civilization and due to all the dimension-hopping Brock and Kasady were doing its programming reawakened with a vengeance and suppressed their personality differences in favour of subservience to itself.
Yeah well it still has a s&@t load of contunity errors, in a flashback that retells Venoms first fight with Spider-Man, Venom was taken into shield custody as opposed to Eddie Brock being separated from the Symbiote and sent to Ravencroft, and Venom immediately turns Cletus Kasady into Carnage after escaping, instead of Dormammu bringing the Symbiote to Kasady, also it's never explained how Mary Jane, Carnage and Venom got out of Limbo.
TNAS is seriously underrated. I do think it went a bit too extreme in terms of showcasing Parker's bad luck with everything especially with the two twins, but it was pretty cool seeing a more adult-oriented Spider-Man story as a one off

Sure is, though in hindsight, I do wish they made a season self contained anyway just in case of cancelation.
Both shows have very unique designs and kick-ass music. The New Animated Series theme is something I never skip when watching it.
ikr! the TNAS intro with that killer music never fails to give me goosebumps
Same i loved It back them and the finale impacted me
Man, I'm still bummed we never got a proper ending to Unlimited. I still freaking love that show.
Rino Romano would voice another underrated adaption of a well known character, The Batman ‘04 series.
P.S. We can agree on one thing on Spider-Man Unlimited, it’s better than Avengers United They Stand.
My favorite Batman series.
The Batman wasn't that good either.
The ONLY 2 Batman solo cartoons that got it right was
90's Animated Series and Batman Beyond.
Justice League was also good
The rest are shit
Get some better standards already.
@@LUCKO2022 Better standards? Just be glad neither of us said that Teen Titans Go, or Beware the Batman were good, cause they're not
@@LUCKO2022 I heavily disagree. The Batman was pretty damn cool. And the Dracula TV movie was awesome.

Beware the batman is pretty good fuck off

I mean to be fair, Counter-Earth and this concept has existed since the 70’s so it can’t be blamed on the show specifically. I mean in some iterations there aren’t any humans at all.
Another fun fact about Spidey's VA from Spider-Man Unlimited: he also voices Luis Sera from Resident Evil 4! You can definity tell with his counter Goblin voice
I just finished playing RE4 and I never caught that.
He also voiced young bruce wayne in the batman
@@journeymanX I forgot about that lol
Duuude, I've played Spider-Man PS1 many times and finished RE4 this week, and never noticed that
"Small world, eh?"
WAIT WHAT?
The fact that Spider-Man Unlimited has more in common with Roy Thomas's Warlock than any Spider-Man comic is really funny to me
TNAS is *my* Spidey show, I revisit it often and I just adore the movements of the character, the voice acting (NPH as Spidey is ma boy) and the maturity.
Or two. Or seven.
I always though that Unlimited versions of Venom and Carnage had no Brock or Cassidy inside but instead was the simbiotes working by themselves
It was exactly that.
Artsyle and VA can change between sequal shows.
I remember watching unlimited anxiously waiting for Spidey to return to regular earth whenever this weird arc was finished, failing to recognize it was the premise
I was never big on Unlimited but the 2003 show was phenomenal. I always wished that ending could be resolved
You did a fantastically stunning job on this double review dude! I love how you challenged the critics of both shows and made your own strong defenses. I also got some great laughs from this video, seriously you could maybe make your own Spidey comedy routine if you wanted to. Incidentally that 94 fantastic Four movie, do you or someone else know a decent link for that on RUclips? I'd like to see it for myself at least once. Anyways very cool third chapter man! Great job bringing more attention to Unlimited and TNAS!
I wish the animated series came back...Neil pat did a good spiderman, the characters were somewhat relatable and the 3d cellshade still looks good...well for me, I wish it wasn't canceled.
Reboot,Beast Wars,Beavis & Butthead, Futurama, and OG MAX STEEL!?
Xavier, you may not be a 90’s kid, but you certainly have the heart of one. RESPECT!✊🥂
I blame it on the fact that my mom was 19 when she had me so she just showed me all the 90s stuff she was into when I was little
@@GodzillaMendoza Cool, same here! Only my mom was 3 years younger and got me into preschool stuff like Barney & Teletubbies some years before my dad came back from the marines to get me into the cool stuff from his childhood, including video games.
I used to watch both of these, unlimited was cool and I enjoyed it but TNAS was just so... enthralling. I loved everything about it, and still do. There’s actually a petition for a season 2 of the series, and Mainframe seems on board. There’s even people making a fan made ‘season 2.’ So yeah. Spider-Man: The New Animated Series is incredible
An official 2nd season that properly ended the show would be amazing as hell.
@@jay2chill134 I think they cancelled the fan project :(
dear godzillamendoza, i only discovered your channel fairly recently but i must say im glad i did. This channel is awesome and i"m amazed you've been doing this for over half a decade and weren't even out of high school when you started and are now married.
Time sure flies, i only wish i had know about your channel sooner.
Rino Romano is honestly the most underrated Spidey voice actor ever. I wish he had been the voice of Amazing Spidey in Shattered Dimensions instead of Neil Patrick Harris
why not the spider-man 2099 instead of Dan Gilvezan (he would voice Miguel O'hara as the origanl plan of spider-man unlimited too which makes it even cooler)
The 2003 series was my absolute jam back then dude. My dad introduced me and my younger brother to it and I've loved it since.
Mary Jane wore a choker, enough said.
Unlimited's artstyle is probably my favorite of any Superhero cartoon. It's pretty slick and the harsh black shading is pretty underrated.
@@indepth9930 yeah you hear that fan remix? it’s unreal dude.
You buggin both intros were dope as hell! 🔥
@@Mr.PR2000 I ain’t saying they aren’t good just that blaring techno music wouldn’t really fly in todays cartoons. actually these intros are really good.
TNAS intro is FIRE
What you mean?!?
TNAS series intro is fire bro whatchu mean
Definitely the most bizarre and out there takes in terms of Spider-Man shows .
I hope we get to see the fan made Season 2 series eventually be finished because I have been looking forward to see it since it was announced.
Really wished that they finished Unlimited. Really appreciated the story and it really only needed about 5 or 6 more episodes.
I love TNAS and how unique it is. I'm super excited that it's finally going on Disney+ so I hope it gets more exposure and fans
Also, TNAS is the reason why I hear Neil Pat as the voice of Spider-Man when I read comics
this version of Harry reminds me of Johnny Storm who also had his natural connection with Pete

Ok, but you gotta admit, Spider-man : unlimited's intro theme is so epic

The MTV show could have used more street level characters (Daredevil, Punisher, Luke Cage, bullseye, Jigsaw)
28:04 hahahaha great edit whoever did this 👏👏👏 seriously this is genius. Thank you so much.
The fact we almost got a spiderman 2099 animated series and didn't was a major fumble
He didn't even mention Connors/Lizard was voiced by Rob FUCKING Zombie, that's probably my favorite fact about this show
I actually liked the MTV Spidey cartoon i wish it had a longer run Unlimited was forgettable.
I’m the opposite
I liked both. one was new and unique which was interesting, while one was really dark and mature which was great to see.
@@MilestheDirtyMindedGoblin2099 heck the MTV Spider-Man gave me a lot of inspiration for my spidey fics not really in story and characters but more of the mature and dark tone aspect of the series
i grew up on spider-man unlimited and spider-man tnas bc of late 2000s early 2010s netflix. i am very happy to see them being acknowledged outside of obscure tweets
A parallel universe of the nineties Spidey universe will always sound amazing to me.
Honestly while I’m thinking about it, Peter does have an out. His suit apparently can be used remotely, so he can make the suit dip while he walks off the ship.
It's hilarious to me how in Spider-Man Unlimited's opening the bite that gave Peter his powers just randomly has an atomic explosion over it
Can I just say that Neil Patrick Harris is one of my favorite voices for Spider-Man and Peter Parker. He’s right up there with Josh Keaton in my opinion.
Unlimited always felt like X-Men and Exo Squad for some reason
TNAS still remains my favorite show to date, the darker more mature tone makes it unique among all the others, plus the cel shaded look still looks really cool to me even today.
God seeing some recognition for the mtv spiderman is so vilifying thank you so much for this blast to the past
2003 isn’t the best show but it was my first Spider-Man show, I still enjoy it to this day and wish it could’ve continued. The actors did a great job, the action was fun, I loved the art style, and the stories were a good time.
Unlimited on the other hand, I like the costume and Peter himself but that’s really it. I saw it after 2003, Spectacular, and the Animated series show but I couldn’t really get into it even when I wanted to.
I hope that suit shows up in Spider-Man 2 and gets more exposure like we want. Perhaps we’ll see it return someday big time, but I’m not holding my breath
We also can't forget that STNAS is also connected to the X-men movies because pete mentions them in one episode
Fun fact :
I actually loved Spider-Man : TNAS when I was growing up and
Spider-Man : Unlimited is one of my favorites too! 😄
Oh yeah people would think that 3d spider-man show or spider-man show with furry will be the best tv series of all time.
@@Tediez_the_honored_one are you being sarcastic or genuine? It’s hard to tell over text.
Xaiver, please dont feel forced to make Spider-Man content, sure you wont get as many views at first but you can most definitely make content about whatever YOU are currently interested in, not what we want, you can fill other niches not just Spidey!!! All us true fans will still be here if/when you make the content you WANT to make, and I for one highly encourage you to do so, i love your videos on things like Moonkight and other comic/superhero stuff aswell as horror/video games just as much as the Spidey-Centered vids!
Loved this show as a kid. Felt like Spider-man was in an actual warzone.
i like to think that the Ultimate Spider-Man universe is a constant.
TNAS Is my all-time favorite adaptation of Spider-Man next to spectacular. I really enjoyed the more darker take of Peter Parker and the villains
0:18 that timeline diagrams wrong Spiderman Unlimited came after TAS not Spiderman and Friends.
I will say it is great hearing the PS1 Spider-Man voice actually in a animated show, always loved his voice for Spider-Man
Wish there was more of the MTV Spiderman series. Like you mentioned Harry Osborn, Peter Park and Mary Jane Watson's character dynamic works very well.
I absolutely loved unlimited as a child, and it marked me to this day as a child that loved drawing in the way they made those shadows and the use of black in the characters. I love the stile they used to this day!
Rino Romano is great, he's very underated as a voice actor. He's not only been Spider-man but Batman as well.
This recently came to Disney+ in the UK (not sure if anyone else got it) and guess what…
THE SHOW EPISODES WERE OUT OF ORDER!!!
6:55 I loved how you used the crossover aspect of Spider-Man 94 to tie into this potential plot hole.
Yeah, Venom and Carnage are not team players.
At least this series was more dark and serious and not childish like the other spiderman series ‼️
I like how venom had the voice for ryuk from death note in the dub
"We all remember the movie???"
Of course we do remember Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, all three of them, because it is a gem
