  • In this in-depth how-to video, I remove the tank from a GSXR 1000 K2 (same should go for 2001, 2002, 2003 GSXR 600 and 750). I also use vinegar and some bolts to break up the rust. While that was happening I removed the fuel pump and cleaned the filter out (it was rusty!). Then I reinstall everything and hope for the best!
Please like and sub if this helped. Lots of good gsxr content to come!

    Thanks your video helped me.
My machine is a GSXR1000K2 with 20000 miles on the clock, it symptoms were spluttering/sudden power loss at high speed throttle roll on.
I thought the original plastic tea bag filter was done however I put it in the dishwasher and it cleaned out all the orange crud and finished up looking almost as new. But I replaced it a genuine part.
I recently bought an additional used fuel pump assembly which I will service and hopefully use as a quick change backup in the future.
I managed to remove and replace without removing the fuel tank.
I struggled with the secondary black sealed housing/filter/syphon?! which was very difficult to clean but I managed to persevere and it finally flowed clean and so I refitted it without any problems, started first time.
This item also contained a lot of the rust particles guzzled up from the very bottom of the tank.
I treated the rust with loktite rust remover, let dry, then refilled with petrol and now my bike runs flawlessly.
    Thank you👍

@@GilbertGardens I cleaned mine yesterday. Zx12r was running horrible with a load on it, but just fine in neutral. Good fuel pressure, but very low flow. Took the pump out, took that plastic piece and shook it real good, what poured out of one if the ports in it looked like straight rust water, mud, horrible... I made a really strong solution of Iron Out and used a hand pump to push it through the filter. Once I was happy there wasn't any air in the filter I let it soak for about 30 minutes in the solution... then blew it out with compressed air till it was nearly dry. Put it all back together, tested flow and got almost 4oz of fuel instead of the 1.5 I was getting before, right on spec... it completely fixed my bike. She tryna pick the front tire up going into 3rd now. It made so much difference having that filter unclogged and proper flow restored. Remember, even if you have good fuel pressure, that don't mean it also has good flow/output. Always check both.

I got the same problem … rusty tank ! Now after GSXR 600 sitting it won’t start.. I changed the fuel pump cleaned fuel filter.. cleaned inside tank with some citrus cleaner I seen on video back in like 2018.. But rust is back.. bike only rode a few times a year, so I’m trying your method..20 - 10 mm bolts..vinegar.. then 2 stroke oil at the end .. I just hope the fuel injectors are not clogged .. bike was running a few months ago… but sit outside under a cover..So now it’s pull the tank and try this..Thanks for the good ideas on the video..

Whew…? It took me ALL day .. to take everything apart an clean the tank… 4 YEARS worth of rust built up! An getting the fuel filter tea bag out of the pump was a hour long challenge.. but after I had it cleaned an put back together.. got the heartbreaking sound of still not wanting to start… an was brand new battery .. but after all day of trying .. needed a little boost an I went got some fresh 89 octane gas an I tried again… an then heard a sound of life… prime the pump a few times then she fired up!!! And was running stronger than ever!!! Thanks for the video.. I actually was starting to think ( how am i going to get this bike to the repair shop ) thinking it wouldn’t ever run again… I believe I need a new set up tires … maybe four years if setting left flat spots .. but tires have tiny dry rot cracks .. so that’s a good excuse to buy a new set..

I see a tube inside that looks like it goes to the ouaide of the tank with no cap could rain water have gotten inside the lairs via that metal tube?
