    We’re working our problems with our Suzuki GSXR 1000 fuel pump. Today, we’re trying to diagnose why the fuel pump on the GSXR isn’t priming. We’ll start by showing you how to check the fuel pump relay. Then, we’ll see if there is power going to the fuel pump by checking right where the wiring enters the unit. Next, we’ll remove the fuel tank on the GSXR so we can remove the fuel pump and test the motor. Finally, we’ll show you how to replace the entire fuel pump and get it back on the machine.

    Great vid. Just towed my 08 1000 home from a ride. Fuel pump wasn't priming, checked the fuses and relays, drained fuel, had an extra fuel pump motor switched it out and I was back up and running within a couple of hours of being towed home!

    When installing a new pump.. do i turn the bike on so it primes ,like 3 or 4 times.. then it should be ready to start?
    I have already installed pump so i cant bench prime it..

    Just pulled the fuel pump on my GSX-R to clean the Filters, to my surprise they were manky as hell although the dealer said they "cleaned the fuel tank"...that apparently doesn't include the Filters. Put my pump back in and it doesn't prime anymore, but it also doesn't do anything when applying 12V to the leads like in the Manual (to check fuel output) so I think the motor is shot.
    I can order one for my bike though no problem, it's 40€. just have to take the pump out again.

    Will the ohm idea once the pump is out work for just about any other supersport? I have an 04 cbr600rr and im getting 12v all the way up to the pump. I havent taken it out yet but I will. I'm just curious if the ohm check would still work the same.

      Have to double check the service manual to be exact, but it should be very similar readings

    Hi i put a hayabusa engine in my dune buggy , I finally got my Busa dune buggy running , and it sounds great but when I start to push the clutch pedal in it makes a grinding noise like if you were you're trying to shift without the clutch ? would you have any idea what it could be

    do you think a fuel pump from a 150cc suzuki bike can fit a 250cc suzuki bike? the same model just different displacement.

    I have a kfx 400 that it backfiring at the top of the gear and I was wondering if there is something to buy from you to fix that?

      It's an air/fuel issue. You would need to adjust it.

    great video, 2002 gsxr 750 my wires got pulled out of the connector on the harness side. would you be able to share the wireing schematic for it. when i tried to match the wires to the pump side of the connector one of the wires doesnt match with color to the one infront of it. so i have yellow, black with white stripe . black with green dashes.

    @Partzilla I've got the gsxr-750 and I've been having trouble getting it to run. It turns over just doesn't run. It had a c29 code so I replaced the actuator and the stps(used part). The stps code cleared but threw the c28 code and still didn't start. Checked it today and now its throwing the c29 code.?? An the butterfly's move with the bike on(after I already turned it on and they moved the first time)?? I also tested the relay and got no click or light from the test light, check power to the fuel pump from the harness and got no light either.? Any ideas?

      So the used part could be bad. Could be a shorted wire. Could be an ECM issue. This is a tough one to diag over the internet. Just keep going through the components. Process of elimination.

    What fuel system cleaner do you recommend for gsxr1000 ?
    I had a some stale fuel that caused the bike to bog down until I re fueled and it still has a small miss/blip at low throttle just cruising.
    Runs clean at mid to full throttle now but just a little sputter at low throttle cruising.

      No cleaner will work if the FP filter is clogged up. Start with sea foam.

      @@daveyt4802 I tried the motul fuel system cleaner and it seems to have worked.
      Bike is running great no misfire or bog and the fuel pump looks spotlessly clean.
      I will run the motul fuel system cleaner in the next fill up just to be sure.
      I have read sea foam is good stuff too.

    My 2011 600 has a poor throttle response. While riding and i pull the throttle 100% it sorta feels like i have let go of the throttle then bring it back 3/4 then catches speed.Would you think the fuel pump would be the issue? Thanks!

      Eddie Garcia sounds exactly like what my SV is doing.
      Suzuki uses an internal high pressure fuel filter that's built into the whole unit but should be able to be replaced.
      There may be an external fuel pump mod available, like this:

      Obviously this is not for your bike...you'll have to do your own research, but it shouldn't be hard to find.

      Need more fuel flow. 2 filters in the fuel pump need inspection. Test flow too.

    I have a 2011 GSXR 750 and my fuel pump isn’t priming. I followed your video and replaced the fuel pump and it’s still not priming. I forgot to check the ohms before reinstalling it but I did check it via the plug afterwards and am getting a reading. What else could it be?

    Im having a problem where im thrown a c41 error code on my L5 GSXR 750, i have checked all the fuses, clutch switch, ignition resistance and bought a new fuel pump but still no luck. Any tips i could use to try sort this problem ? Thanks for the vidz they have helped me loads but not this time unfortunately

      Just had a C41 code when I removed my fuel pump relay. Get a new FP relay or check the connector.

    I have a gsxr 600 and the fuel pump wont prime, I've narrowed it down and I know that the relay isn't getting power is it possible that the ecm isnt giving it power even if its giving everything else power to work I've replaced the wiring harness fuel pump relay and the fuses but still now power to the realy?

    Hey. Could be a stupid question but is it possible that a motorcycle could fire up even if the pump doesn’t prime? My r6 takes some throttle play and a long push on the start button to fire up, sometimes it will fire up and then die immediately. I hear some electrical noise when the key is turned but it could be actuators, when I flip killswitch on I don’t hear anything. Thanks for this video

      There could be a little fuel in the line that will let it fire and die. Test the pump and see what's going on!

    Hi. I’m trying to pin point why my 08 Gsxr 1000 will not start. I’ve watched your other video where you show how to check voltage on the starter relay, clutch, and fuses. They’re all good. The bike comes alive except for priming up and nothing happens when I push the start button. Would the bike still spin over if the fuel pump is bad?

      It will still crank. You don't hear the fuel pump prime when you power up?

      Partzilla no I hear nothing. I don’t think I hear the actuators. The tach cycles and the lights come on. I do see a CHEC code though.

    Okay i have a 2002 GSXR-1000
    My problem is that it was stolen there were wires cut on the main harness but I have jumped them so they already connected my tach is not lighting up my fuel is not turning on or priming I replaced the starter relay the only thing the bike does when I turned the new ignition is the rear brake light turns on what do I do do I replace the entire wire loom of the bike

    Can I test the resistance without removing the tank/pump? I tested all the leads at the terminal and got no resistance.

      You can, but you want to check if the wire is disconnected on the inside.

      Sending unit is one wire, FP is the other wire. B/W is ground for both. FP should be around 1.1 ohms. Sender is around 2-300 ohms.

    Thanks for such an informative video. I'm curious and have a similar problem with my bike. when i got to check the relay with my test light power is constant and doesn't click on then off. (like in the video when he flips the killswitch and the test light illuminates for a few seconds then goes off)when i test the kill switch you can hear the relay clicking like it should but the test light stays on regardless of the relay clicking on/off? Anyone know or have any ideas my guess is theres a short/surge somewhere in the loom causing the relay to always have power going through it?

      Also just a little more information. I've changed all the fuses, relays, TOS sensor and even the ecu. still i cannot get my fuel pump to prime. i can take positive and negative leads to the fuel pump wire plug harness and it primes up but constantly. i can even leave it hooked up to the power and start the bike just fine. however the fuel pump is constantly priming of course cuz its hooked straight to power. please help why isn't my relay cutting on then off or sending a signal to the fuel pump.

      UPDATE: RELAY no longer clicks when i switch the key. i used to hear it click now no longer and on the fuel pump side harness again when i test the connection and its supposed to cut on then off, again the test light stays on. its like my connections are all getting power but theres no switch between on and off like its supposed to.

      Did you ever replace the relay?
      Did you look at any sensors that had to do with the fuel side of the system?
      Did you pull up a wiring diagram of the fuel system?

    I have a Suzuki GSXR 600 k1 and my fuel pump is not priming, I’ve followed the video up to removing the tank and the fuel pump. The relay and connector under the tank both activate my test light along side the klicks when I turn the key to on.
    However I can’t remove my tank as one of the Alan key heads that holds it in place is stripped and I’m having trouble removing it.
    What I’m asking is there a way to test the fuel pump while the tank is still in the bike with the fuel pump fully in.
    Also when I took the hose off connected to my tank it had a continuous stream of petrol from it that didn’t stop (there’s about 5/6 litres in the tank)

      Get an extractor and remove the stripped screw. You're going to have to pull the pump out.

      Partzilla would using a power probe to the red and yellow wire coming from the pump that connects to the wiring loom test weather it fires up while still in the tank?

    I have an 06 gsxr 600. I can hear the fuel pump priming then when I turn the bike on it starts and runs for a few minutes then turns off. After that first start, it doesn’t want to start. Could it be the fuel filter being bad ?

    My m109r doesn't prime, but the pump is not seeing any power. The ecm not no communicating and is probably cutting power. Test light is working out everything except the yellow/red wire that supplies power to the pump. It says CHEC on the cluster.

    I'm at a loss I have a 05 sv650s had a issue tlwith my stator went out replaced the stator then my fuel pump wouldn't not prime replaced my relay and just installed a new fuel pump but still can't get it to prime I don't know what could be the issue

      Check your fuses. Wiring connections. It's not getting power from the battery

    I have 07 gixer 1000..mine is doin same thing except mine has power at relay but relay is not putting out power ..is it relay or something else?The relay is not clicking ..actuator is in fuel pump?I can jump oower across plug fuel pump turns on ..but is not priming..any kinda help or advise .

      You can remove the relay and jump the 12V to the pump itself and it will run. I do it to pump out my tank. Unless the pump is bad or disconnected. He is fixing this problem in the video.

    My 2007 gsxr 750 has power to fuel pump but does not start, I removed the fuel pump and tested my readings for pump are 91ohms and readings from fuel gauge assemble are open. Do I need a new fuel pump unit or just the gauge assembly? Does having a fuel gauge with an open reading affect the starting bike?

      Fuel gauge wouldn't affect starting. Do a pressure test on the fuel pump to verify it's working.

      Maximiliano Villegasg Yes I ended up changing just the fuel pump, I found a replacement on Amazon it’s after market and works great. Since my fuel gauge readings were open I cleaned the entire assembly and the contacts from the gauge assembly, after this my fuel gauge readings were normal. I also cleaned out my fuel tank since my gsxr was sitting in storage for a little over 1 yr, I believe this was the cause of my pump failing, it was very dirty in the fuel tank.

    Now what if the pump doesn't always prime, but when it does and starts working, It works no with no issues. It Is just down to getting the pump to prime

      Relays can be intermittent.
      Had a problem like that on an 04 Kia Rio I had.

    I have a 2003 gsxr 750 and the fuel pump is not priming, I hear the actuators but no sound for the pump...I followed the video up to the wire before the pump...I got power at the relay but the light stays on, it didn't go off and I also check the y/r wire at the connector before the I went to the pump...Could this mean the relay is bad or stuck open?...I'm stuck

      Could be a bad relay or the pump may have just failed.

    What would be the issue if this issue is intermittent? My bike primes and runs fine but sometimes I go to start it and it doesn't prime and throws F1 code, I turn the key off and on again and it works like normal, the on and off can be something I have to do two or three times but sometimes (usually when warm) it starts fine with no issue. I tried the dealer mode bridge to check the code but it blows the fuse when I bridge the plug.

    I have 1997 srad gxsr 600 I don’t even hear my fuel pumping priming nor do I hear the relay actuating what do think it could be and would this video apply to my bike .

      A '97 shouldn't have a fuel pump. It's carbureted.

      Your bike is gravity/G-Force feed. It will not have a pump or relay.
      If the bike is working correctly you have nothing to fear.
      If it isn't working correctly then post your symptoms and I'm sure someone will be glad to offer suggestions.

    Is it just a GSXR1000 thing that you can't replace the pump, because I was able to replace ONLY the pump and not the entire housing on my 07 GSXR750. I hope that's the case, because I felt pretty mis-led after watching this. $20 vs $200 used/$800 new.

    I'm having the same issue fuel pump not priming. I change the fuel pump relay it is not working. I use the test light and I'm not getting fire to relay for it to seng power the pump.

      ECU sends the coil voltage. May go through many other things. Have to trace the power back and find out where it's lost.

    What if I'm getting no power at the yellow and red wire at 3:09. What could that mean, cause I tested the other connections and it lights up, but not the yellow and red wire

      FP relay supplies the voltage. So go back to the FP relay Y/R wire. My FP relay just failed. Burned contacts.

      Test power, test relay, if it's bad, replace.

    I have a 750 Honda shadow. fuel pump will not run. tested pump man. with 12 volts and it runs fine. replaced fuel pump start selonid and still wont run. any help would be app. thanks.

    have a problem with mine. suzuki gsx1000r k7. When I turn it on, it works unevenly and shuts off, and when I drive, when I press the clutch, it shuts off even though it is driving. Please help

      You need a certain amount of Ohm's to ground. Direct short for the ground wire, 1 ohm for the FP and 20-300 ohms for the sending unit.

    I'm having this problem with my 2012 V-strom 650. FP relay works fine but FP motor doesn't run. Looking for ohm #'s for the FP. You can get fuel pumps only everywhere, no reason to spend $800 bucks for the whole thing! I swapped mine and still no FP operation. Suspect short. Other noise if from the secondary throttle valve acutator.

      Talking to myself here. I found a large voltage drop across the FP relay. Have another used relay coming from fleabay.

      I had a new FP relay for my truck. Removed the connector and plugged in a new FP relay. Pump now works! Problem solved.

      Put the fleabay relay in from a 2013 Gixxer and it's now fixed and back to original. Now my ABS unit is having problems. :(

    Mine you sometimes have to turn the key a couple of times then the pump will work.. what would that be?

      Sounds like a loose wire somewhere or the pump is failing.

      Partzilla ya the relay will click once but when the fuel pump does work the relay clicks twice

      Partzilla also it seems when it sits for awhile it won’t prime but after a few tries it will then won’t do it as much.. would that still mean the fuel pump?

    My fuel pump primes and works fine- Until I turn the bike off. Then it won’t restart. I’ve narrowed it down to a hot start issue; it doesn’t prime at all when too hot. Any ideas?

      I have the same problem but no one knows what the problem is. I have a m109r and it has "chec" on the speedo, but I don't have the fi light on. The bike turns over but is not getting fuel. It can't be the fuel pump because I ran power directly to it and it started priming.

    Hey, can anyone help? My 08 GSXR1000 starts fine. But when I give it the beans it is lacking in power. What might be causing that? Spark plugs, fuel injectors, fuel pump? What?

      Have you got it in "A" mode as that's the high powered mode. C is economy mode. It could be many things like a small hole in your manifold pipes, to a blocked or kinked hose

      @@seanviper99 Bike has 3 modes, A, B & C. Problem was the fuel filter. Had a lot of rust particles. Replaced the screen and some o-rings. It worked, then it didn't. I had to pull it apart a few times but now it's been running fine.

      @@daveyt4802 I replaced a filter on their fuel pump. Is working fine now. I think the bike had been sitting for a long time before I got it and muck had accumulated in the fuel tank. Good now.

      You can blow the lower filter out or just get cheapos on fleabay like I did. Recommend cleaning or replacing every 10k miles. 25k for sure. Also you can flow test them. Jump FP connector for 10 seconds and get 167 ml flow of gasoline minimum. 250 mL is better.

      I don't turn mine upside down. I'd put it upright instead with the gas at the front of the tank.

      Don't just randomly buy parts. You can test from battery to plug for spark issues or test lines/pump for fuel issues.

    50-60 pounds of fuel in a 4 gallon tank?! race fuel is just under 6 pounds a gallon.

      24 pounds of fuel plus 10-15 pounds for the tank and fuel pump.
