Today we’re performing a coolant change on our GSXR 1000. We’ll start by draining our system, which shows that we had some pretty old coolant in the system. Since it looked a little sad, John will show you how to rinse through the system a couple of times with water. Next, we’ll refill the coolant on our GSXR and then take a couple of very important steps. John will show you how to bleed the air out of the cooling system, and then we’ll run the GSXR through a couple of heat cycles to move coolant through the engine and we’ll finish off the job by refilling the reservoir underneath the fuel tank.

Excellent video, I cannot thank you enough other than to like all of your videos and subscribe. Your attention to detail is outstanding and an aid for all of us to learn by. Thanks to this video, I flushed my 2005 GSXR 1K's coolant system and replenished it. Everything went per your video just fine! She never overheated, but I knew it was time to flush and new fluid due to I only changed it once before, long ago to do track days, then onto racing with CCS/ASRA.
Great video and did it on my 1K and its been the coolest and stay cool like never before!.
Your videos are perfect!!! Thank you so much for these
Extremely helpful. Thank you
I love these videos .
I love buying genuine parts from you guys for all my bikes.
AUSTRALIA
what a perfect tutorial. thank you so much. it is really helpful
Hi,,, can I use regular anti freeze for car
It's nice to have a visual of how to do this
you do a very good job with your videos and you helped me a lot!Could you make a same one flushing and changing coolant on cbr 600rr 2008? I had seen some videos from owners but there are different methods which are far from the right as there is no bleeding from the cylinder block as well.Thank you and keep on the good work!
Thank you for the amazing tutorial, my scooter"k7 750" had been overheating extremely bad after I changed my radiator hoes and changed my coolant. Now I can fix it. 😁
Nice job & very clear 👌.
Thanks 👍
Hi I’m wondering if you have a video (How to changes the stator cover ? Also I was wondering the torque specs for those bolt in that cover
Thanks in advance
Thank you for this video! Flushed my k6 gsxr 1000 3 times with distilled water, then drained and filled with engineIce. Squeezed and rocked side to side then felt all the radiator hoses and all are filled with water and the did the 3 heat cycles and I thinkeverything is good now.
Only question I had is should the radiator cap be on or off when I'm air bleeding the coolant system and what temperature should I let it get up to to bleed the screw on the thermostat?
Good 👌👌
Gracias, muy útil
Another great video... However, you should use deionised water, not regular water.
David Home distilled water right?
He was using premixed coolant. So no need to add any water. The water he did use was to flush it out so no need for distilled since it was immediately removed. If it was not a premix than yes you would use half distilled water and have coolant.
I'm trying to find out where my coolant bleeder is on my 2012 750 gsxr
my 2008 gsxr 1000 will spill coolant from the overflow hose coming from the reservoir, after a hard ride and shut the engine off. Do you reckon I have air bubbles?
How come you didn't use the Suzuki ecstar long life coolant? The blue stuff..
So i drained and changed my coolant over the course of 3 days. 1st day- drained and flushed with fresh water. 2nd day filled with water 2 seperate times and brought it up to tempetature. 3rd day filled with new coolant, rocking back and forth to clear the air bubbles from it. Ran bike for 2 to 3 minutes cracking throttle several times. Shut bike off. Loosened screw on thermostat. No air and no coolant. Did this several times. Same result. Any advice? 06 gsxr 1000
Very usefully, thank you for the video. Question... I see a lot of videos about 50/50 still water n white vinger n does that work better?
Vinegar will kill everything , don't even think of using it.. (flush with vinegar, maybe ? and make sure you get rid of every trace).
Question do you need to add water 50/50
Is it the same for a 2007 gsxr 750
Where I can get that tank pad or does anyone know what it’s called?
Do you let the bike run , then release the coolant? Or you just fill up and dump it ?
Where is the coolant bleed screw located i know its under the tank is it on the left or right side
Should you run it with water to flush it out?
Is that the same for the 600cc?
What an uncomfortable position for the reservoir tank in the 1000, my 750 k7 have it on the side so it's really easy to reach.
Changed my coolant 2 seasons ago was a darker color green than the new stuff from maxima. Definitely was no where near brown like that coolant in the vid. Anyone have thoughts if my coolant color was fine?
Yes, it will get darker over time. That's why we change it out.
Damn man..... What a shitty job just for some coolant.... Guess I got some work to do. Thnx for this great video 👌
Does the same method apply for 07 600 as well or its slightly different....?
They all have similar systems.
Will this coolant be suggested for a 2016 GSXS1000? Thanks.
Suzuki ecstar long life which is a blue colour.
Are any antifreeze/coolants specifically recommended for motorcycles? Those sold motorcycle specific are quite expensive compared to automobile type.
Coolant is coolant. There are race or eco versions for bikes, but standard coolant is the same for auto and MC.
According to the Clymer manual you should not use coolant that has silicate additives because it can wear the seals in a water pump. However you should use coolant that is designed specifically for aluminum engines
Prestone 5050 premixed. Gsxr 1000 k7 22000 miles
Tbh all my vehicles if I've changed rad or coolant I've used prestones all purpose I swear my bmw was running cooler than bmws blue stuff. And alot cheaper. This stuff you can also use as a top up but I wouldn't mix colours. Only.if full flush etc
Would the same process be for my k3 1000
Same basic process.
I went out for a ride just cruising round the block for about 5 mins until i noticed my temperature was reading 235 F and my bike felt pretty hot. The RPMs didnt get passed 5k, is the temp normal?
I have 07 GSXR 600
Unless you are riding in the Mohave desert, it's a little high. Check your coolant levels and fan.
Fan should kick on at 225 so yeah 235 is high
I had a question my 07 gsxr 1000 started overheating passing 200+ it never did that until now on idle but when I’m riding it cools down back to 160 any suggestions what it could be ?
Flush, check thermostat, fan.
Partzilla cool thanks🤙
Street riding in the hot weather will always climb up there. As long your fan kicks in around 220 you'll be fine. Happens to me on street rides with traffic lights. Of course change coolant if you haven't . I used Prestone 50 50 mix no problem.
gsxr88 how long does it take to complete coolant flush? As a first time gsxr-750
I have the same bike could I use engine ice
Yes, I used to run engine ice. It's fine.
What’s that corrugated rectangular piece of metal under the radiator?
I'm not sure. Oil cooler? Radiator bracket?
How to change radiator fluid gsxr750
Should you run the engine when flushing the system with water to make it flush the entire system?
Don't run it. Just open it up and flush it. Whatever residual is there won't be enough to affect anything.
Hi! How much coolant K6 GSXR1000 need , if I wanna flush out the old one.
2.3 quarts
I got k5 .. does it apply as well ?? 2.3 qts.. ?
Hi i have a question i have a 08 gsxr1000 an it red lines when its at idle in nuetral but when its on load in gear it doesnt redlines. What u think is the issue?
Are you noticing any other issues? chain or wheel drag? Does it do it in every gear?
@@PartzillaPartsi have no chain or wherl drag issue. If i pull on the acceleration quickly when its in gear it hesitates . But if u pull on the acceleration slowly it pick up acceleration
Then I would check your fuel pump and fuel filters. Do a fuel pump volume test.
@@PartzillaParts ok ill check the fuel pump assembly. I dont have the equipment for the fuel volume test
Is that sound normal on the gsxr
Yes.
You don't mix the coolant 50/50 with water?
exactly my question
I love these videos. That is not the prettiest 2007 GSXR 1000 that you’re working on, but it gets the job done I suppose haha. I also own a 2007 GSXR 1000, so this is extremely helpful to have all of these videos on the same bike as mine. Only difference would be, mine is in showroom condition! Anyways, great videos!
I'm mostly concerned about the front tire being mounted backwards... :P
It's a big deal when it comes to rain ...
How similar is this to a 2006 gsxr1000?
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
As others mentions, do not that is, do not use regular tap water to flush out the system. You should at least use distilled water because tap water will contain ions which will promote corrosion unless it's fully flushed out with distilled water first
Front tire mounted in wrong direction.
Did you run the bike between flushes
No, there's no need.
Yes is the correct answer to completely flush all old fluid out. Feeling resevoir then draining just flushes radiator. Not hoses pump or block. Run 180 degrees drain fill ECT till clear
I have a problem with mine, when my temperature is about 210, my fluid is starting to flow on the ground.. why?
It's just your coolant overflow from getting that hot. Where are you that it's getting that hot? Might be time for a flush and change.
Never ever put "regular water" in ANY cooling system. Always distilled. Why skimp on $3 worth of distilled water????
Upsidedown dog, was told a long time ago, auto coolant more abrasive.
T
WRONG THAT SHIT LOOKED HORRIBLE SHOULD DO A 5050 mix of white distilled vinegar and water button hoses up run bike let cool as many times till it’s clear coming out then flush distilled water through it and flush then button up and add your coolent
Negative ghostrider... you have to use distilled water. And you must run the bike for 1 min and flush it 4 times
So he purposely gives out half the info and leaves out steps... why? Every video is a common theme. He gives bits and pieces but leaves out the whole pie. Still like his videos. But as a new rider I’ll watch all his videos but go to someone else for a step by step and lightly cross reference. Gsxr forums and comments have been a life saver.
