The BEST DIY sliding truck bed on RUclips hands down. I've been looking for a commercial product that integrates modular tool boxes with a sliding bed and they don't exist. As far as I know, you are the only person to have successfully produced one. Also many of the commercial bed slides are about 4" tall thereby wasting a lot of space. That is their biggest drawback aside from price with many products > $1000 usd. Your 'split bed' idea is also unique, though having a larger slide out floor would allow me to store my collapsable table saw and mitre box. Adding a handle that allows the unit to lock in position might be cool. Overall, very well done indeed.
For more context, Dewalt (and others) make a stackable tool box/organizer whereby all the boxes can 'click' together on a standup, roll-away unit with large wheels and a handle. It would be great, for instance, if there were such a device that allowed you to, say, remove the tool boxes from the sliding bed and stack them together on a roller. Sooooo truck bed to roll-away kinda thingie. LOL.
Goeie werk! I've searched long and hard for practical and simple ideas to make a slide for my bakkie and this is definitely the way to go! Thank you for sharing. Neat idea for fastening the ladder to the roofracks, easy to build and use and very sturdy.
Hi Daryl. Thanks for the sub! Welding is definitely a form of art and have great respect for people that have put in all those hours to attain such skills. Now I am by NO means a welder, this was actually my first time welding, but hey need to start somewhere right?!
Hi JP. Dankie man. That was always the plan yes, maybe one solid big drawer on top or another set of boxes doubling up the capacity. Hopefully sometime soon.
This is a clever idea nice Ford bantam wanting to getting my self one as well and I am definatly going to build this storage idea it would also be a good idea to build like the exsact same thing base wise but instead of your black boxes have like a big storage cupboard so you slide it out and on either side you open up the door to a hole bunch of shelves thank you so much for the idea
This is crazy man!!! I bought my truck last spring and went on the hunt to find a decent way to build a slide but only found ones that would fall apart in short order the way I use my truck so for the past 6 months I’ve been planning and gathering materials because I’m doing it on a limited budget but I started building it a month ago and worked on it again yesterday trying to finish cutting the last couple pieces and welding them up today. Our designs are very, very similar buddy. I’ve been worried about how it was gonna work cause a couple guys said it won’t work like that but I knew better. Yours looks like it’s working well so mine should also. I did see the other comment bout adding a few more bearings so I may try that and will let you know if it works. I appreciate your videos and hope you put more out, take care!!
Hi Don. Thanks for the awesome comment. Nice to hear from someone else also building the same thing. Would love to see how yours turns out! Mine is still working perfectly. Haven’t gotten to adding a few extra bearings yet, but my load doesn’t change much so it hasn’t really been an issue yet. Maybe just consider the amount of weight you’ll have on the front of the drawer when fully pulled out. You might start feeling a bit of flex in the frame, this will mainly depend on the stock you’re using for the drawer runner. Mine was fairly thin to try and save on weight. This doesn’t affect me at all though because in my specific setup it rests on the tailgate if I ever need to bring it out that far. I realized the best part this past weekend when I needed to take it out and it was only 2 screws, that’s it. Hope you have an awesome time building yours! Cheers
I used skateboard bearing like that before on wooden drawer slides bit didn't last too long. Now that I got a welder I would love to make a slide for back of cab that slides out.
Maybe use cam followers. Top eccentric and bottom fixed. That way you can adjust eccentric followers down on sliding frame. Tack nut on back side of plate for threaded potion of followers and drill large enough hole for nut to go through. Then weld plate on on frame.
Uiteindlelik ‘n voorbeeld van een wat maklik is om te maak. So bly ek het dit gesien. Waste mm square tubing and angle iron het jy gebruik? Het jy die bearings by Midas gekry?
Hey guy.First thing, great job u did. I really like the simplicity and tightness of the ladder rack as well. Questions - did i miss how you secured it so it doesnt pull all the way out? What about that flex factor when extending it past that certain point, where it looks like it might be dragging on the tailgate? How does that affect it? Enough that u did something about it? Did u make a platform on top of these? If so, did u post a video on it? As time went on, what have you found that worked out very well, and in opposition, what might u have done differently? Thanks for sharing. Aloha ;)
Thanks Jeremy. Yes, I built it in a way that I can do exactly that for a future build. I thought of almost doing the same thing but just two big flat platforms pulling out so anything additional like power tools and so can also be loaded on top and also be pulled out with ease.
A video specifically about truck bed pull-outs, (which were well done, for sure), and my favorite part was the ladder bracket... BTW: I don't know if it's a generic name or the name of a specific brand, but I've always known those threaded inserts as a "nut-sert". (Not sure how that would actually be spelled, but ya, a nutsert. (Because you're basically inserting a nut into the metal panel.)
Do you have source links for the threaded inserts and the boxes you put in the trays at the end. Those are sweet. Nice build all around. Did you incorporate a stop so the trays don't fall out or go past the optimal point.
Hi Ken. I"ll post a link below to a tool for the threaded inserts. As for the boxes, you should be able to find it at any outdoor/camping store. I'm not sure if you will find these exact ones world wide, but you should be able to find something that will suite your needs. I did not add a stop to the drawers as you pull them out, I found that I never pull them out all the way as is. But it is very possible just to add a tab on the back of the drawer underneath that should prevent it from coming out all the way. Thanx for the comment and glad you enjoyed it. Cheers.
Wow....that looks awesome...=) I'm gonna do something similar to that on my Volvo V70... But in a smaller size.. thats the plan anyhow...=) thanks for sharing.!
Excellent job! I've attempted sliding storage and failed in strength. I will try this. What is the threaded pop rivet you used to secure the bed braketing system?
Outstanding! I'm learning welding as well (so far only oxy acetylene but it's not the right tool for something like this), and would love some information from you. Would you share which welder you used, and what you think of it?
Hi Tim. I’m using a GAR Ac/Dc welder that I inherited from my father. I’m still getting to grips with all the ins and outs of it but it suits me needs perfectly for now.

Nice! I am glad I am not the only one who welds with shorts and tennis shoes on❤
One of the better home made drawer designs I have seen on you tube. Simple. Practical. Good job

Thank you very much.
What size tubing did you use, and what is the overall height? Very nice setup.
Very nice job on on the brackets and the video. I may adapt the truck bed bracket to my garage, thanks.
Glad I could be of some assistance 👌🏽

Was thinking of how. Well now I'm going to copy you. That's awsome
Really good ideas!!

Looks great, way better than the wooden ones, only problem is that I don’t have any of the tools to make it lol
Friends or neighbors usually a good option. You’ll be surprised at what people have lying around 😁
Thanx for the comment!
Good job man, greetings from PERÚ 🇵🇪
Super inventions, great engineering. Thanks!

Dude, what a great rack system! Cool to see
baie mooi gedoen!
7:28 - watse moer is dit?
Do you have a link to those storage boxes? Great design!
Nice!! good job!!
What size bolts and nuts did you use?
M10?
Is there anything to stop the slides from being pulled too far out?
Where did u buy the square tubing
nice work! Do you plan to build a platform above the storage drawers for additional storage of large items without interfering with the drawer system?
Thanks Jeremy. Yes, I built it in a way that I can do exactly that for a future build. I thought of almost doing the same thing but just two big flat platforms pulling out so anything additional like power tools and so can also be loaded on top and also be pulled out with ease.
Nice inspiration! I am trying to make an 800 pound generator slide like this. Did you use special industrial bearings or just skateboard type? Cheers
Do you think Unistrut would have simplified the build?
Good work !!
Thanks Tim!
Where did you get your storage boxes? I run a similar style but I like that the lid closures on yours are on the ends.
Did you find them? Let me know where
Beautiful work! Do you happen to have a technical drawing of it?
Very useful.
How much does the frame weigh, looking for something like this but am getting limited by weight currently.
Baie mooi jinne

Hi Luigi. Spot on that’s the idea for future add on. 👌🏽
Good Job.. Thanks for sharing
Where did you get those boxes?!?!?! Awesome build!
Yes where did you get those boxes
@@repairman419 They look like Frontrunner WolfPAck boxes.

Excellent 👍🏼👍🏼
what size ball bearings did you use and metal size ?
Great job man
Thanks man 👌🏽
flippen cool dude. ek sit met dieselfde probleem met my bakkie. maak my mal om altyd my tools in die deurmekaar bakkie te kry op installs.
Where did you get the plastic storage boxes?!?! Ladder tie down is slick!
Loving it!!

Goeie werk ou maat🎯💯
Hey man could you tell me how much the build costed ?? As well as. Can you please give info on the size of the bearing used ?? And the plastic boxes
Excellent job! I've attempted sliding storage and failed in strength. I will try this.
What is the threaded pop rivet you used to secure the bed braketing system?
Thank you. There is a product called Rivnut that does the threaded pop rivets. They have a crimping tool for it as well.
What size bearings were used.
What boxes/totes are those?
What kind of plastic boxes are you using for storage? ....where can i buy them?
Hi Michael. They are called plastic ammo boxes here and they can be found in most outdoor/camping shops. Hope you can find them where you from.
great looking sliders, what are those boxes?
It's called Ammunition box's

How much would cost me for u to build me one ?
Love the design?
Awesome design! What is the name of the mounting bolts that worked like pop rivets?
Frank Rider please see top pinned comment 😉
What Plastic storage containers are those, they look perfect?
Frontrunner WOlfpack
Where did you buy that insert tool?
