Great video. Aside from the great idea and implementation, your video was to the point, no unnecessary time-wasting chatter, no obnoxious background music, and in summary, well put together. Wished all DYI videos were as well planned and put together as this one.

Great video. I’m planning something similar for underneath my 5th wheel RV. Mine will have two rails and suspended below will be a closable tub of gray and black tank accessories. I think mine would work better if I suspend the trolleys from above instead of up from the sliding piece. Thank you for this, it helped refine my idea.

I have no practical use for something like this, but the inventiveness of it is so cool. You should create a latch system to lock it in place. The capture at the front of the stationary piece, and the bolt at the end of the sliding piece. Really neat build!

Can you just drop a bolt, or similar down from the large unistrut as a slide lock? Can pull it out when you need to extend the small unistrut and even drop it back through when it’s extended to lock it open🤷🏻‍♂️. Dig your invention and great video!

I work in north chicago never needed 4 wheel drive. But I get it you wanted it so you worked hard and got it! Thats what its all about. I run a 2006 e250 with no windows and hockey pucks to keep my tools safe and I drive a 2005 prius to move the kidos around and take the easy service calls. Never thought Id say this but I love the prius and its very cabable regardless of what others say. I get 45mpg average and its stupid reliable. Wish they could figure this out in a cargo van and add 4 doors and seating for the kids. Dont they realize how many guys have a family doing side work but really dont want two vehicles!

@@bcarter1430 sadly, my truck is strictly residential service, so i dont have a nitro tank or a torch setup, however you could easily put it up in the front of the bedslide. if i need nitro or torch i will just go get another van. so far in two years of use i havent needed that, and very seldom do we as service techs in our small town.

    Few questions.
    1. Would it be possible To skip the 90deg connection at the top and bolt directly the larger channel onto the two bolts with an appropriate washer.
    2. Use some lithium grease to smoothen out that rollers.

I know this is an old video, but what about adding a long piece of sheet metal bent into a "L" shaped profile to the sliding rail, so it would come down between the back of the side toolbox and the stuff hanging on the rail, where the bottom of the "L" profile would be under the stuff hanging, giving the hanging stuff a backwall and a floor. Then the longer stuff can hang but also sit on the floor of the "L" profile. You could then add dividers and maybe put a lip on the bottom of the "L" profile to have small parts bins or other stuff to lay there, maybe lengths of hoses or pipes, long tools, etc.

Should put supports at the rear for when your driving to and from. They make supports that go on the outside of strut that hook under but still let the bottom strut move freely. And poly wheel trolly would have worked for that weight and would be a lot quieter if anyone is doing the same

Does the headboard of the sliding deck hit the items that are hanging? So to pull out the sliding deck, you HAVE to pull out the new trolley system? I couldn't tell if the sliding deck has a headboard. I love the use of the unistrut. Great video!

If you’re only reason for using the bungee is so it didn’t slide back & hit the rear window, it seems like it would have been easier & made more sense to just put some kind of lock or blockage to prevent it from coming back by itself. Although I just noticed this video is 4 years old. 😂 are you still using this system? If so, what changes have you made?

What is the purpose of having the trolley "spring loaded"? It seems awkward having to hold it back while loading and unloading the gear. Having a retainer to hold it from moving back while driving would seem to be all you need.

    • @stormgutter

I was thinking the same thing about locking it in place. I guessing you were worried about it sliding back when you accelerate and move back like you mentioned in the video. I know the probability of this is very very low, but what happens if you get rear ended by a cab over? Are those strut channels mounts strong enough to prevent these from being launched into the cab. Perhaps cutting these a little shorter so they're not as close to the back window would be safer? Like I said I like the idea, just would hate to see someone get hurt.
