Great job! Looks like the most affordable and straight forward solution I've seen for accessing the contents of a full pickup. I like how it can be easily removed when you need to do other kinds of cargo hauling.
Awesome design , one of the best and simplest I have seen. I am sure if you had a commercial track and rollers would be even better. An added bonus is you have a work bench , just bring 2 portable horses and slide out and use as a work bench ! I had built oneva bit differently . I used the fiberglass decking and mounted the slider wheels on that , and a sheet of plywood on top. I needed a good exterior paint and it got bad after 2 years . I am going to try 2 coats exterior paint, as I have side tool boxes and a ladder rack and want an open bed. Thumbs up$$$!!!
I bought the bearings on Amazon. They are roller blade skate bearings. If you go to Amazon and search for "Rollerblade Bearings", you will see plenty of options. I see a Rollerex 608-2RS Wheel Bearings 20-Pack out there for $16.95 currently.
Would be easy enough to add small cable to attach to the truck bed tie down and the tray. I have thought about doing that, but it just has not been an issue for me.
Can you please add a link to the parts list or copy and past it in the description? RUclips adds more suggested videos that overlays on top of your video at the end, thus making the parts list partially blocked. I cannot read the top and bottoms of the page. Great job, btw! I plan to do this too for my Jeep Gladiator, mainly for accessing camping supplies. No need to drop $1500 on something that will get used only 5-6 times a summer! :)
all the popups at the end hide your parts list. Consider adding it sooner next time. Oh, Very nice. I do not have the tools to do your design but I was thinking of using 1 inch castors. probably not as nice as yours but it is within my skill levels
I do not know. You'd have to measure it. The slide does take up a little less than 2 inches of height in the bed. I do know I can put in a standard height 20lb propane bottle inside a milk crate, and it will close with plenty of space.
For attaching the thresholds to the tray -- did you apply the adhesive, set them in place, screw them down, and then remove the screws when the adhesive dried?
Rick, I applied the adhesive and set the thresholds down in it and placed a few bricks on top to hold it down until cured. In use, the weight will be on the threshold, so nothing pulling or etc. on the bond. The adhesive just needs to keep the threshold I am using to run the bearing over (tracks) in place. So far, I have had the setup in my truck for about 6 months with no issues.
Sweet! Stupid RUclips is covering up the materials list with their banner boxes all over the place at the end of videos; any chance you could add the list to the description?
I used 90 degree angle aluminum rails, drilled hole and used a bolt for the axle in this case. You can see the rails in the video. Thirteen rollers per rail, three rails, and the rails were screwed and glued onto the plywood base.
Its a good idea to have it lock in place not only if you leave the tailgate open, but also because the weight of the entire load pushing against the tailgate can have the tailgate fail.
@@nickbollan716 you’re missing the point! There are other suggested videos that cover the parts list at the end! I know it’s there but cannot see it fully.
Those bearing are really quiet. Great job. No frills - just - function. 👍👍

Thanks. It is working well so far for me.
You did a great job Sir, Appreciate you posting this. Thank You.
Thanks!
Nice . Thinking of doing a tray on our truck. Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome. It really did work out well for what it is.
Very clean and useful. I want to try that in my Lincoln MKT wagon
You should!
Now thats what I am talking about, great ideas.
Thanks 👍
You are a creative dude
Thanks!

Thanks! I have been using it on the road now for a few months. K love it.
My kind of diy... works, cheap! I'd like to see a close up of how the rail bearings fit in the groove. Not sure I get what's going on there.
Thks for video where do you buy the rollers please

Very elegant solution. It would be nice if there is a way to make the slide not roll when it is extended.
Would be easy enough to add small cable to attach to the truck bed tie down and the tray. I have thought about doing that, but it just has not been an issue for me.
really good idea, The suggested videos covers the parts list, can you show the parts list before the end or other way, thank so much
Sure thing! Turned the end screen off.

I did the video a while back and I cannot find the spreadsheet or pic I used in the video. Sorry. :-(

Cool setup! Does a standard ice chest between the slide and tonneau?

@@donsdoityourself2547 Thanks so much!
What was the thickness of the 1x1 angle aluminum? 1/16th or 1/8? Thanks in advance for your reply
It was 1/8.
Great video. I was wondering if you could put the bearings on the base plate as opposed to the tray itself?
Yes, absolutely. I do not think it would matter which surface had the bearings.
Great solution thank you.
Thank you.
Love it! How is doing for rattling? Tries this off-road yet. I was thinking with rubber bumpers it could reduce vibration
I split the side of those foam pool floats that are long and round (noodles). Made a bumper with that for the front and back and it is fine.
Nice build
Thanks!

I turned off the end screen.
Does it fit a standing bucket when the tonneau is down?
Yes, a 5 gallon bucket fits.
Very nice thank you very much
You are welcome! Thanks.
How do you put the rollers on
I used 90 degree angle aluminum rails, drilled hole and used a bolt for the axle in this case. You can see the rails in the video. Thirteen rollers per rail, three rails, and the rails were screwed and glued onto the plywood base.
Great idea!!!
Thank you! 😊
Need the parts list at the end. It is covered up with other utube video's you can click on
I turned off the end screen.
Just don't forget to raise the tailgate or someone else will own it. Almost happened to me a few times on a slope.
I added a safety chain I connect to a D ring that hold it. You have to remove the chain to pull it out... Ask me why I added that. 😅😅
Its a good idea to have it lock in place not only if you leave the tailgate open, but also because the weight of the entire load pushing against the tailgate can have the tailgate fail.
Very cool..
Thanks.
When American says "under $200" it is usually north of $500 Canadian 😭😭😭
LOL... really was in USD..
parts list?
It's at the very end of the video.
@@nickbollan716 The suggested videos covers the parts list. Anyone get it elsewhere?
@@DanSimon no, he literally has the parts list on the screen in the last 5 seconds of the video.
