Superb works, and a pleasure to do a real collab with you! Very happy to give as many corrections and accurate bits of knowledge as possible! The script editings and recordings were all worth it for any interested ones to learn about the legacy of these three fleets. The R44s and R46s are indeed one hell of a crazy yet fascinating history! I hope you all enjoy it, and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask here! Regarding my channel, it is not intended to grow at all; I'll have a few videos here and there to preserve my recording moments since I have a quiet lifestyle. Enjoy our complex works, have a safe day, and happy learning!

The R46 is the GOAT. It’s big and sleek. It has the best sounding propulsion and aesthetically pleasing orange seats. I’ll be so sad when they’re retired.
R44/6 are my favorite

The staten island railway r44s are getting replaced
Rip once they do
They were definitely a FAVORITE of mine during my youth 🥰🥰
@@landocalrisian2014the R44 and R46 trains are okay to me ,although the older ones with the brown floors and yellow lights those are the ones I hate but the so called refurbished r46 trains which have the normal modern train floors and white lights are quite okay to me ,my favourite train is the R211T because they have smarter technology and open gangways
Finally!
I can see a MTA gone wrong meme with an Ezpass photo of the R44 train at the tolls if such a photo was released to public.
Lol
Awesome
I agree
6:34 this is probably whats going to happen to the R46 in a few years time
Absolute legends those R46s🙌🏼
Very good excellent and nice vídeo from your Channel.
Thank you for Sharing beautiful work my Brother.

I enjoyed video
The R46 became my second favorite train. From this Part 2 history, I just learned that the R44 and R46 cars caught structural defects. Your show was right over the money! Happy Railroading!
Thank you! That's what we like to hear.
@@jassy_235 You are welcome. Thank you for tapping or typing to me.
Nice
I like the R44ML's so much that I didn't want them to be retired, but that was retired in the 2010. R46, GOAT
You Should Do The R1-9 Next (You Don't Have To If You Don't Want To.)
I love the R44 Experimental Signs, and R46 LCD signs.
I've said for awhile that the R46's ride like their builder's namesake, so finding out they actually had trouble riding and trucks cracking was a shock!
Thank you for a very well done video. R46s definitely killed Pullman; though MKCO did a great job on the rehab- 30 years ago! Point noted about reliability, constant alerts for door problems and breakdowns. Lots of square wheels on the B R68s.....looking forward to the R211s when they arrive in 2040🥱 (I'll be 78 then...)
The R211s will enter service this summer, not in 2040. You are off by about 18 years.
@@TheRailLeaguer I'm being sarcastic. Especially now with so called in line "upgrades"😒
@@christopherstory2136 Really?
@@TheRailLeaguerI'm looking at it this way; the R211 is an evolutionary product closely related to the R160 and knowledge gained from 20×year NTT experience and proven CBTC tech employed on the F. No surprises here as to whether the train fits in a tunnel or stuff like that since the physical plant of the subway has not changed. As far as "upgrades" - specs are clearly stared in the RFP and contracts and Kawasaki's experience here meand there should be no surprises as far as propulsion, dimensions, weights, signaling, performance etc. The new technology duch as displays and wider doors fit examples are also incremental, not "new". Other than burn in and structural examibation, eamxamibation shouldn't take this long.
@@christopherstory2136 Really, because the technology is different with each subway car order? In fact, every subway car order takes 8 months to a year to test out and they are allowed to make upgrades as well.
Why are you complaining about the length of time it takes for cars to enter service, when literally every subway car order always takes at least 8 months to enter service?
Cool
These cars had carpet in them at least in a couple of cars as an experiment I road in one
R44 did on at least the first set delivered. In 1974 75 I was in kindergarten trip and we rode the r44 to Manhattan. They were so smooth and quiet compared to what they replaced
Omg when the r44 and r46 door chimes go off at the same time at a staiton it sounds like hell because some tones are not the same notes or the speakers are worn out.

Do Part 3
The 46s are really breaking and it's sad
Maybe they should call them the Sqeaky six

Because of the R211s, the R44MLs, R44SIRs, and R46 trains will be dearly, and solely missed.
9:06 that is probably a codebreak on an 8700's changing the sign to an L train
I remember some R44's on 4 and 5 trains on Bronx on 1993
Too wide
R46 is the best
These cars were among the last American 🇺🇸 made subway cars that served NYC for half a century.
We’ll see if all the newer foreign models last as long as their predecessors.
7:25; R-46 trains are going to retire until 2025 the R-211 trains for the New York Subway System.
11:02
On March 20th 2022
This video is GREAT, but why does the R160 in the L line at 8:04 look off?
That's an R143, and they were shipped without the American flag and footholds, added later.
Ooooooohh Thanks for telling me@@TRRailfan
also, does anyone know if R44 cars 5286-5289 are still operational? If not, what was the purpose of keeping them?
From my knowledge, they’re not operational especially with the worsening structural issues mentioned here building up over time since 2010. Even if these are operational, the structural issues build up since their retirement would risk serious damage to these four cars. They are used as storage units in CIY.
10:00 is this car still around
Yes, at Concourse.
Is it the end of an era for the R46 subway cars after 48 years in service?
End of the 70s subway era
The retirement of the R46 would mark the end of the era of American built NYC Subway cars.
@@KingofGamingAndTrains456 Correct, that's in for the upcoming fun fact vid.

The r44 are over 50 years old
New trains look like they were influenced by Robocop.
Why no r46 in the thumbnail
These R46s have seriously got to go, OMGGGGGG!!!
I know you want the 211A/Ts on the tracks BAD, but they’re not all here yet, so the 46s are still rolling…
@@videonut1988 I know, only a matter of time they'll be taking over, they should've put the LCD roll signs on the R68/As!!
NOOOOOOO!! KEEP THE R46'S!! They still run very well
No r46 will not be retired
Yes it will be replaced by R211s
I live on the A line, and we still use the R46 trains 🚆 which I still love. I don't care too much for the new trains
