Never been on this one before, but never again. This R110A or R110B was Introduced in 1993, and it was one of the very first subway cars to feature automated announcements in real-time. The R140s right up to the R179s and the upcoming R211s still has automated announcements to this day. Sadly, it was retired by 1999 and most of 2000, and it was one of the rarest subway cars out there. There were problems. It was put out of service due to brake failure, and also fire broke out of the R110s which cause the subway cars to destroyed. Unfortunately, the R110 subway cars are long forgotten in the MTA community, becoming the most obscure subway car in MTA’s history.

It’s also federal law that the trains get replaced after a set time (which is a good reason why the MTA should consider leasing new trains instead of buying them, which should save money and ensure a regular fleet replacement schedule is followed).

Remember what happened at 6:53 there was no radio playing in the subway? They tried it, but not anymore. Thanks to mobile devices where you can stream music on TuneIn, and other music apps. When I go to the TuneIn app, I flipped to KSUR’s “K-Surf”, and got “Disco Saturday Night” playing while riding on a subway late at night if there were little to no people coming in or out of the station. You can turn up the music and crank some 70’s and 80’s retro dance songs to jamming on a subway ride.

Great video. I had the pleasure of The first viewing in 1992 & in 1993 of the first New York City Subway Technology Trains at The New York Transit Museum on display The R 110 A & R 110 B. I traveled these trains journey's & introductions & displays at Union Turnpike on the E & F train in Queens. Fordham Road on The D Train in the Bronx, & a surprise at 34th Street Herald Square on The N, Q , R, & W platform. All were displayed at those station locations. I feel so robbed not able to ride the R 110 B cars they looked so beautiful & a pleasant ride. The doors chime sound & remind me of The PATH Trains! Why did this happen to these cars & why couldn't they be saved & rebuilt ? The seats looked liked the R 32, R 38, R 40, & the R 40M. The R 42 car seats were blue not light green as above mentioned. As for the current tech trains that later followed The R110 B cars: I don't like the seating arrangements at all! (Except The R 143 cars) The R 179: 😵😖😤 Lemons! As for the delivery of the R 211 very dramatic entrance it's made. The interior & seating very poor. I'm not impressed with its exterior front! One fleet much like the R 211 cars in Europe has forward facing seats look a whole lot better. As I did spot The R 110 cars on The uptown A Train in service that was my first & last time seeing them running. I will always have a special place in my heart 💙 for those cars. One has been displayed in Brooklyn near Coney Island Yard near Bay 50th Street. It stands where the R 16 cars once was at that throne. Great video of these memories of "The Trains Of Tomorrow".

This train reminds so much like the R211A, I think they got the look of the front and overall style from the R110B

Yes some common elements. I was surprised at how few improvements to the looks of the 110s made it into the millennium fleet production models (R142/143/160/179/188).

The reason why that lady at 16:50 is so angry about the prototype train is because the city spent so much money on developing a subway train instead of giving her a welfare check.

@The War Phoenix Here is the answer:
R110B: Car 3006 Caught on fire and exploded on the A Line in 1996, causing Car 3007 - 3009s to break down and taken to yard to be repaired, while the Other cars, Car 3006 - 3003 and Car 3003 - 3001 were taken to the C line for service,in 1999, the remaining R110B's were going in and out of service then in 2000, The R110B took it's final bow and became retired forever, The R110B ran from June 15, 1993 to 2000
R110A: It also had fire problems. And later on started having problems with the brake. Then it became retired on 1999. The R110A ran on June 15 1993- 1999.
      That's what happened.
