The R110A NEW TECH "SCHOOL CAR" TRAIN (1994)

- Because of the interest generated by my videos of the R110A and R110B New Technology trains, I searched my collection and came up with this very rare gem shot in 1994. The R110A train was being used as a "School Car" train, that is, a train that is used to train and qualifiy the train crews on it's operation. In this case, train operators were being trained on it's operation. The video picks up at the Newkirk Ave station on the '2' line, where I was being filmed by a Motor Instructor (Train Service Supervisor) operating the R110A into Flatbush Ave.

I think that the MTA should at least try and do something to the R110A. I'm thinking that they should overhaul the train for the brake problems and when it's finished they can use it for fan trips. Thumbs up if you think the MTA should give it a try.
I disagree, the legacy is survived by all the new tech trains like the R142, 142A, and 188 today
Steven Francis put the last r110a cars on the 42nd street shuttle
Too late the MTA Converted those trains Into pump trains so they may not be in service, R110As are still here, they are just pump trains now!
FlareBlitz 798 Plans for the 42nd Street shuttle entail reassigning 15 R142As from the 4 and reconfiguring then into 6-car consists. The R62As will be displaced to the 6.
Future fleet needs will grow out of the developing R262 contract.
What are fan trips?
Nice video. Someday I will upload the first revenue run of the 110B on the A.
3:35 The train of the future next to a Redbird.
I don’t think it’s ever coming back
And then the future train retires before the Redbird
Those Pyscopaths parked it at Flatbush, that station Is horrble at turning trains.
love the propulsion on those! :D
ever since i was little, about 5 or 6, i remember the R110a like it was yesterday. the propulsion, the colored seats inside the different cars, everything. i love those cars, and wish they was still in service. with the 2 videos you put up, you've become my hero in life, and i thank you for lettin' me reminisce and remember when life was so good!
I was born in 2006 and yet there's something eerie and nostalgic about this. This was shot in 1994 and posted in 2021. And here I am, on April 23, 2023, posting this comment.
This may be the best sound of the R110A's motors
(that is, on a R110A, as there are other trains with this motor)
Not only did the R110A use this traction, but Taipei Metro C301 (Taiwan) had it before its refurbishment, and currently it remains in use on unupgraded DART SLRV's (Dallas), the TTC T1 (Toronto), the Los Angeles Metro P2000, and on the Breda VLC (Lille).
@bigbillie66 Hey, bigbillie66, thanks so much for your comments. I'm glad to know you enjoyed my videos on the R110A train and also to know that these videos have filled a much needed void for railfans who may have never had a chance to see this train, or may remember seeing or riding it while it was in service many years ago. I plan on posting some more videos on it so stay tuned!
just wow, 10 years change in flatbush and the train set. Man I miss the Redbirds. Be great to bring them back once in a while.
love the propulsion
Da555nny/gamesfreak699 if you come here to the Toronto subway system you will here the same propulsion on the old train
Now, that's my REAL RetroTrain right there.
wow the R110A sounds great from the inside!
this train sound like eyyyy
No is the HAVC
Both of you are stupid. He's talking about the propulsion
Very cool. The Redbird was icing on the cake.
Sounds similar to the bombardier t1's we have here in toronto
The R110A and R110B are made by bombardier
The R110A was made by Kawasaki and the R110B was made by Bombardier.
As well as the Los Angeles P2000 and Taipei C301!!
TTC and DART are continuing the legacy of the R110A motor.
The redbird has a break noise like the R62A? Wow Man do i miss riding them!!! Great Video!
Amazing Video!!!! I love it!
For some reason I wasn't born around this time but I still feel some kind of nostalgia....
@Transitviews I love that clip. We need some more.
I assume that #2 Train was heading back to E.241st St in The Bronx?
I love this but never took it. I always see that in the subway image
Wow... I remember riding that train in the mid 90's... and the A train....
@kmothersil No, I didn't get a video shot of that R-26 with that R21/22 storm door, but I do have a still photo of it from inside. Thanks!
Yessir W video!
This must have been on a weekend since the west track at flatbush is usually the 5 train
@bebo2good1 Thanks, beboggod1, glad you enjoyed the video!
So those are the granddads of the R160 series. They have a lot of features of the 160s and 162s.
Great videos! I was wondering if you had any more videos of it running? I was hoping to create some sounds with your permission if you do. I know a lot of people would love to operate this awesome train!
Sounds like the T1 from TTC
That’s because it has the same traction sound the T1 from the TTC has
To bad the breaks were messed up. Could've put it on the 1 and 3.
God i loved this train, if only for the seats.
The R110b has is a beauty
Also the R110a
@mtattrain he has an R110B video in service check in his channel
the driver on the train was you?
wsx2000lol I think he's the guy holding the camera.
5:58
Nice
Probably called the new Technology train for the sign logo on the train 0:33
4:33 Nice sound
U driving it?
The startup sounds like Los Angeles Metro's Siemens P2000 light rail vehicles' engine startup. I wonder if the engines were given to LA Metro for the P2000's?
What type of Redbird was that?
RAILTECHCHASER R28
Is It On The 3 Line Or 1 Line
It ran on the (2) line
Wait is this Flatbush
I hope the MTA gets the R110 back online.
Lennox Alexander Francis Jr dont bet on it
they can’t do that unfortunately
Too bad that this new tech train of the R110A car groups of one set of 10 cars did not survive in passenger service on the #2 train and $2 million dollars per is totally out numbered!
The same thing that they did with R44 they kept one of the five cars as a preservation. so let people know the history of the first NTT
R110A was built by kawasaki right?
Yes.
But I will try and see
the R110A is similar sound R62 and R62A
The R211 should've used this type of propulsion motors.
Nah the R262 should use this instead
0:45
What was that bang at 5:58
Probably train tracks clackety clack
5:58
T1 i think so
Are you a train conductor?
Hes not
Man I love that glitchy propulsion
yazmin velazquez not glitchy

@@morganlimes 😳😳😩😩
Is that a R62/A screw that old train from the 80's my opinion
Brigada Gutierrez No. those were R110s for the 2/5. Back then, the 2/5 ran all Redbirds, which made for really painful operations with all the sign switching.
To bad there aren’t in service
nah that redbird sounds like an R46
Exactly. Where's the Redbird whistlely air noise
Wait But r110A I wish I will Upload r110B and R110A
4:50 who know this sound in openbve
I do
Me too
